I've been going to this dental office for a couple years since this location opened. I was originally at a private practice, but my insurance changed and no longer covered it, and Oracle Modern Dentistry was way closer (within 5min walking distance). Since I started going, the staff has changed a lot! I'm onto my 3rd dentist, 3rd or 4th hygienist, and it feels like the front desk staff change every six months. The only person that's the same from the start is the oral surgeon that comes in once a month. In comparison, the private practice I went to for about two years kept the same dentist, hygienist, and staff before and after I left. Despite the constant change in personnel, I love how friendly everyone is! The front desk staff are always happy to help and take the time to look over your records, create estimates, forward results directly to your email, and more. The hygienists are usually fun and interesting, including one who talked about visiting comic conventions and being part of The 501st, which was great to hear and right up my alley. And the dentists are all super nice and delicate with teeth. I'm a little afraid to get my wisdom teeth pulled (I'll do it eventually, I swear!), and I take the bus everywhere. So when the private practice dentist told me years ago to go across town to get a consultation from an oral surgeon, I kind of let it go by the wayside and just did my cleanings. Towards the end of my time with them, I heard the hygienist talking with the dentist and the dentist sounded mad, and kept that sort of tone while talking with me (probably understandably, but it's my decision right?) In comparison, I only hear some concern from Oracle Modern Dentistry's dentists, and the oral surgeon himself wasn't all that concerned, but very nice about everything going on with me. With the private practice, it could take a bit of time to get some things processed. And copies went by printouts, with x-rays faxed for the new office. In comparison, things get processed very fast at this office, and I can easily request x-rays and estimates to be sent by email. I have insurance through my workplace, which covers most things pretty well. They do ask to do fluoride every time I do a cleaning, which isn't covered by my insurance but which I sometimes accept or decline. They can fill cavities same-day, which was great to have done for my wife. And their services feel very thorough. I'm pretty satisfied overall, and plan to keep going! It'd be nice if the staff would stop changing so much so I could get to know some people a little more, but it can be nice to see a new face every once in a while. And there was one time I went, I think for my oral consultation, and I had to spend an hour past my appointment time just waiting in the office for him to become available. And the x-ray technicians always have trouble imaging my teeth, having to readjust things all the time which painfully presses against my gums and mouth to the point where I nearly tear up. Lastly, I find it confusing that their title and logo says Oracle Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics... but they don't do ANY orthodontics! I asked them on the phone about the confusion and misleading name, and all the guy had to say was "well that's certainly your opinion" and that they may expand the office someday if they get enough requests from patients. Well I've been going since it opened years ago and there's still no orthodontics. Instead, they refer out to another office, in my case, Broadway Smiles (which has better x-ray machines that more easily image without pain). So for these things (long wait time for oral surgeon, trouble with x-ray techs, misleading name regarding orthodontics), I gave it one less star. But overall, for dentistry and dental hygienics, it's a pretty great place with friendly people and competent dental services! Update 5/16: A few months ago, I finally scheduled to get some teeth pulled with this office's oral surgeon. After being referred to Broadway Smiles for orthodontics (since Oracle Modern Dentistry and Orthodontics doesn't actually do orthodontics), I was told I need four teeth pulled towards the front since I'm an adult with crowding, and I scheduled my two upper wisdom teeth to be pulled since everyone says those are pretty easy. Coming in to my appointment, I had to wait a while as he had to deal with an emergency. Eventually, I got to the room and the assistant came and put the mask on for nitrous (smells orangy, even so the front desk said there's no scent), and wow it does the trick! The surgeon came and put anesthetic by each extraction point, and my whole mouth was totally numb. I was afraid I'd bite my tongue, but they put a brace in to keep your mouth open. He proceeded to extract each one, and I couldn't feel a thing! The operation took about 20min, then they gauzed it up and sent me home with a prescription for ibuprofen. Super easy, and very pleased with the oral surgeon! read more

The office was clean, modern and warm. The front office staff was attentive and helpful. I felt very welcome and important to the staff at this office. The wait time was a little bit of a problem, as an emergency procedure caused a delay in my being seen. However, I was not ignored and my needs were attended to. They made sure that I was a comfortable as possible while I waited. They provided me with several treatment options, and thoroughly explained all my options for financing and payments. Overall this is the best experience that I have had in a dentists office, even with the delay. They made me feel as though my business was valuable. It had been a while since I was able to get into the dentist and I was feeling nervous that they would berate me. However, they were extremely kind and helped me feel at ease. These guys are on another level! I usually fret these cleaning visits but Dr Bortz and team took the extra time to completely eliminate the physical pain associated with the procedures. All their equipment is state of the art, and they are meticulous with it, at one point they were cleaning my teeth with micro-lasers from all angles, which made my teeth feel better than ever; certainly better than my previous office that was practicing some kind of dinosaur dentistry. My only complaint is they keep it a little cold in there, bring a jacket. Anyways, I highly recommend this place, best dental office I've ever been to!! read more

I will not go back to this place and I am definitely getting a second opinion on what they told me, especially after reading all the reviews! It was my first time there. I take amazing care of my teeth and gums, infact the dentist there even commented on it. The insane thing they decided to tell me is that I have gum disease! Omg what a load of crock! I knew they were lying right away. You know what's crazier? The dentist didnt even tell me! It was the lady who deals with how you pay for the issue! And she couldn't even tell me what stage it supposedly was! What they didn't realize is.... I am so OCD about my teeth and gums and I take amazing care of them! There is no way I have gum disease! I also just got my braces off for the 2nd time and my orthodontist was a dentist and he took care of my teeth. Unfortunately my insurance changed and he didnt accept it. They said I needed a laser wash or something that would cost almost 700$! What a load of crock! When I said no they refused to do my cleaning that I went there to originally do! They said they wouldnt clean my teeth because it was not going to help my gums! I was in shock when i walked out the door. This all sounded so crazy! Cleaning was easy-peasy and made me feel comfortable going forth with what I need to do teeth wise. I am a college student therefore I have two more years in Tucson but once I graduate I would not mind making the drive back for appointments because they are just that good! I walked into Oracle Modern Dentistry absolutely terrified. I was forced make an appointment after I cracked a crown. I had spent the past few years coming up with a number of excuses as to why I didn't need to go to the dentist. The thought of the combination of the pain from the dental work and pain of the bill was too much to handle. Dr. Bortz and his staff were absolutely amazing every step of the process. They got me in within 3 days and on a Saturday. Every employee I encountered was beyond professional, kind, and helpful. They were aware I was uncomfortable and went out of their way to make it a positive experience. The exam, cleaning, and treatment were pain free. There was possibility I was going to have to have a root canal but Dr. Bortz determined it wasn't needed once he started treatment. They won't do anything unnecessary which was much appreciated. They were honest I felt 100% confident and comfortable in the dentist chair for the first time in my life. They also offered a payment plan that was affordable which was awesome. The staff, front office and Dr. Ashraf. were just absolutely amazing. So friendly and caring. They kept me well informed throughout the whole process, from check in to x-rays and cleaning. I found this place on yelp because i wasnt satisfied with the dentist i was going to, he was a little to old school and i wanted to try a place that was more up to date on current dental procedures and this place seemed to fit. dr ashraf was very friendly and took the time to talk to me about what i was looking for and my past problems with other dentists,likes and dislikes. thats the first time a dentist has ever done that. i was given the most complete exam ive ever had, new techniques were explained in detail along with a total cost breakdown. i felt very comfortable with him and his advice on how to procced, something that was sadly lacking with the last 4 dentist ive had contact with. Hopefully, at last ive found an excellent dental office who also refer patients to another excellent dental office, tangerine dental in oro valley, if more serious work needs to be done. So if you are a frustrated and pissed off victim of some of the really crappy dentists in tucson take heart and be of good cheer you are safe and will be well cared for at the two offices in this review. read more

I had my first appointment here yesterday, and I have to say -- I was impressed from start to finish. I usually dread dental appointments, expect small, dingy offices with outdated People magazines, and staff that kills you with small talk... but this dental office was almost like a spa day + teeth polishing! First of all, the office has a convenient and easily visible location across from Tucson mall. The decor is ultra modern and slick, and the staff is absolutely wonderful. I spoke with a gentleman named Jay when I called and hung up with a smile on my face! Then upon entering, you fill out a medical history VERY quickly on an iPad and its synced to your dentist's computer instantly; this cuts down your wait. It was my first visit, and as such, Dr. Ashraf greeted me and took me to a consult room to explain everything the practice had to offer. They have a new technology called Velscope for early detection on oral cancers. As a physician (oncologist), I was incredibly pleased to hear about this and will 100% be referring my patients here for this service! Personally, Dr. Ashraf was a delight. He is young, enthusiastic about his job and very honest. I did not feel I was pushed into any services I did not need, and a thorough treatment plan was provided to me with multiple options. Additionally, this nearly felt like a spa day because each of the exam rooms have flat screen tv's right above your chair with satellite tv that you can watch while your teeth are being cleaned; you also get cool sunglasses so the light doesn't blind you! The flat screen is used interchangeably to show you your X-rays and the dentist can draw on it to point out cavities etc. I left with a fantastic Sonicare toothbrush, a great plan, and the whole exam + extensive X-rays cost me something like $50 (new patient special)!? Already recommended this practice and Dr. Ashraf in particular to my family. read more

Everyone is very nice at Oracle Modern Dentistry. But, the major objective seems to be to up sell services. I came in for a cleaning (which should include cleaning of the gums). Instead, they recommended a "power" cleaning, which would cost me $950 out of pocket, with my insurance picking up the rest. I said this did not seem right. I had been going to the dentist three time a year for over twenty years for cleaning (including gums). They said a cleaning including the gums was called Perio-maintenance, and would cost $65 over and above my insurance. Then, they recommended some alternative in the middle for $225 out of pocket. I said no thanks. A total waste of an hours time. read more

Babe is getting some mouth work done. Really love the doctor (Dr Seoud ~sp?) and the nurses/receptionists are so incredible as well, I have a MAJOR phobia of dentists to the point where I have had to resort to sedation dentistry and have massive panic attacks at the thought of just seeing a dentist, which in turn has kept me away from the dentist for years. We came in for my BF to have his tooth work done and after discussing my issues with the dentist we've ended up getting my exam etc taken care of. I never would have pictured myself in a dentists chair after the awful past traumatizing experiences I've had, without doing major IV sedation, I can't even do a cleaning without sedation. They have been so patient with me and have been willing to take it very slow and step by step with just an exam today to discuss future treatment options. Like I said, I have a MAJOR phobia and anxiety. They have been so understanding and helpful in keeping me calm and informed during each and every step. They have offered mild or deep sedation (IV) if necessary as well which immediately puts me more at ease. Really happy we found them, they are an incredible institution and will not even consider going anywhere else!! read more

Modern Equipment, friendly staff, great dentist, overall I was very suprised and happy that I found this office. I always know that if there is any discomfort during a procedure, all I have to do is raise my hand, and everything litterally stops so that my discomfort is addressed before they continue on. I feel very comfortable asking questions, and their financial team is great in finding various ways to help me with my plan costs. If you need a dentist, this is the one to go to. My husband who is 77 and has Parkinsons went for his cleaning. First, when Bill asked for a pillow for his neck (Parkinson disease tightens these muscles, so he really needs a pillow) they said all their pillows were bloody. Then the x-ray tech began the "cleaning" by flossing his teeth and brushing them. Now this is the last step of a cleaning, and when he mentioned this, they ignored him. Then the dental hygienist came in to finish the "cleaning" with a machine that went around the gums. They told him for an extra $55 they would irrigate and scale the teeth, to which he replied that his other dentist did all that as part of the cleaning. Needless to say, we won't be going back there. And the insurance company, TDHAP, a state insurance for their employees have't done a thing about this complaint. We will look for another insurance carrier, too. read more

I would give them a zero. First time I went for my cleaning everyone is nice blah blah and I just went in to see the Endodontist Ben Garagozloo and he was so unprofessional. I don't know what his problem is maybe he is bitter in life maybe a mid life crisis (though he looked to old he should be past that) he needs to leave it at the door. He was so rude. I had a few questions about the procedure asking about proof and review of what kind of damage my tooth had and he snapped back "well if you cant trust your dentist then maybe I shouldn't be doing it" and "I don't need to show you it's not about proof" that's your first red flag when some one is trying to con you. I snapped right back at him and walked out got my 111.00 for the Smile Plan they offer their (which is a rip off please read the exclusions on those before you sign up I didn't notice them until after I applied). Also they have a new front desk crew who are rude as well I heard them cussing and everything else so tacky. Don't go here. I think a lot of these reviews are based of their one and first time experience. Also to add to all this before my appointment I was told for an estimated 3300.00 in dental work I could put down around 800. or less if needed and I would have a year to pay it off with no interest. Well I called them to inquire about something else, and I got a hold of some new girl and some how my down payment got brought up and she tells me (mind you this was on Thursday my appt. was that Monday) "Oh no you cant do that there is a minimum on the down payments you have to pay at least 1400.00." WTF ok first off who pays like roughly 33% for a down payment for anything, you can hardly call that a down payment I told her I don't have that and that was not the plan I agreed to and now you want to change it. She goes "Well that office assistant isn't here anymore and there is a reason why she isn't here" and basically blaming this past employee and bashing her. She continues on saying "I work at another office and NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES HAVE WE EVER TAKEN A DOWN PAYMENT THAT LOW WE JUST DON'T DO THAT" So I cancel it because I don't have it. Well Friday night when I got off of work a voicemail comes up from a David saying they can do that and if I want to reschedule my appt. I can. Of course there closed so I manage to get a hold of them and they say they still have one at 4pm so I take it. Then they call my voicemail "hey do you want to come in at 9 or 9 30" and its like 830. Umm no I'm busy (don't get me wrong I appreciate them giving me more options but when its for their benefit because they want to be able to clean up early etc I don't) and then I call them back to tell them No and she goes hold on I have 1130 or 1230 which one do you want (she says it just like that as if I'm obligated to pick one) I tell her neither I want my 4 pm. Oh ok is her response. Lol wow really sorry I inconvenienced you! So I make it there to deal with Ben Garagozloo. I can't help but assume if he is that unprofessional then he is most likely that uneducated. Just because you have a "degree" doesn't mean you know what your doing. I will never go back and they still owe 50.00 which I put down to hold the appt. which will take 3 to 4 weeks to get back!!! This place is a joke. read more

Today I met 2 of the coolest people in the world! To my left is Dr.Jason Bortz and on my right is his assistant Damiem. They work at Oracle Modern Dentistry And Orthodontics located in Tucson Arizona.. As most of you know I have had a lot of pain with my back tooth where the last dentist office couldn't numb me up and literally stopped in middle of procedure and told me I needed a Oral Surgeon. Leaving me with a semi dislodged tooth. I met Dr. Boltz and Damien yesterday at there Rita Ranch location Dr.Boltz sat and literally took 30 minutes of his time talking with me to reassure me I didn't need a Oral Surgeon and he could extract the tooth within minutes with no pain whatsoever. So I scheduled a appointment for today. Dr.Boltz and Damien again discussed the procedure and made it clear that I'd be numb and it would be a matter of minutes to extract once numb. After about 4-5 minutes I was numb and he began. Literally I was in the chair 3 minutes and the tooth was extracted in one piece. No pain no nothing just his word and he kept it. I was so happy I had to take this photo of them both. If you ever need dental work done this is the go to Doctor. There office staff is extremely professional and easy to talk to as well. So again Dr.Boltz and Damien thank you so much for making this a great experience for me! Especially after what I been through recently by the other dentist. The kicker is I saved 85 dollars by seeing him versus the other dentist. Great job! read more

I have to go with Christina R. in saying I never thought I would be "yelping" my dentist. I always thought of the dentist as a chore, an obligatory nuisance to be dealt with when necessary. From the time I walked in the door to the time I walked out, every staff member from the receptionist to the hygienist to the dentist was kind, thorough and seemed genuinely concerned about my dental health. It must be a prerequisite to have a true passion for healthcare and dental health in particular because you can really see that it is not just a job for the staff to pay the bills but a career where they seem they belong. I see some complaints here about how Oracle Modern Dentistry tries to sell up some of their higher end services and products. Is it just me, or is that kind of typical business practice for, I don't know, MOST businesses? Both the dentist and the receptionist/billing coordinator were able to explain to me in detail why they recommended what they did and what the benefits were of their higher quality. They were also open and honest about all of my options, not just the most expensive ones, and I did not feel forced into any choices. You want the best? They have it. However, just like anywhere else, don't be upset when wanting the top-of-the-line crowns/fillings/whitening etc. costs more than the lower quality options. Having had extensive dental work throughout my life, I can honestly say that I found their prices very reasonable for what they were offering, including the higher quality options. Final thoughts: office was spotless, loved the takeaway package I got at the end with the travel pouch (great for throwing toothbrush/paste/floss in for traveling), and was impressed by the fact that they have the latest technology that I have seen in dentist offices including iPads to go over billing and insurance information, flat screen TVs in the exam rooms, the gum irrigation system (which is painless and refreshing despite the intimidating name) and the fluoride varnish that you can eat with 30 seconds after it is applied if you so choose. read more

The entire staff made me feel comfortable and at ease. I had to get an emergency root canal and could not feel a thing. I will never go anywhere else. I highly recommend going there. I hadn't been to the dentist in quite a while and I was very nervous because I knew it wasn't going to be good. I went to visit Dr. Ashraf, who I had learned about through a friend, for a general checkup and cleaning. I ended up needing a root canal and a crown. I had the root canal done elsewhere and it was miserable. I came to Dr. Ashraf for the crown on the same day and had a much better experience. I came into the office in pain, irritated, and unhappy. Within minutes I was in a better mood at Dr. Ashraf's office. The receptionist was very polite, offered me water and got me back into a chair quickly. The mood in Dr. Ashraf's office is so light and comfortable. I appreciate that he talks me through procedures, asks me about my day, and all around really cares, which I think is lost in most other offices. I would recommend Dr. Ashraf to all of my friends because he is quick, professional, and extremely good at what he does. read more
