Let me first qualify myself as a reviewer of this practice. I essentially grew up in the dentist's chair. Braces, lip bumper, head gear, wisdom teeth extraction, cavities, more cavities, root canals, crowns, etc. Through the years, I have been to 10+ dental offices and my experience with Oracle Modern Dentistry has been exceptional. Here are a few reasons why: Patient-centered approach - Dr. Bortz is knowledgeable, thorough, and prioritizes his patients. During my visits, I am confident that I am receiving the best and most appropriate care. Last year, I made numerous visits due to crown damage from heavy teeth grinding (2020 was a stressful year). Dr. Bortz and his team went above and beyond to accommodate me and fix the problem. Transparency - I have a clear idea of what my financial obligation is. I am asked to sign off on anything additional (ex: fluoride treatment) prior to service. Accurate estimates are presented for procedures. I have also never felt that I am being presented or sold unecessary products and procedures. This is unfortunately so common at many other practices. Cleanliness - Seems basic, but it's important. The office, equipment, and instruments are clean and they seem to be vigilant about wiping things down. Easy online access - They have an online portal for booking and viewing appointments. Records are easily accessible. Great for us millenials ;) Friendly/Professional staff - Good staff can make or break an experience regardless of what the actual visit with the doc is like. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The technicians are well trained and professional. I don't usually post reviews of medical/dental offices. When I moved to Tucson, a friend highly recommended Dr Bortz for my dentistry needs. I was immediately impressed by the thorough approach of the Dr and his staff. The office is immaculate, the technology and equipment are the latest and greatest and Dr Bortz is a perfectionist- a quality that I really appreciate in my dentist. The office keeps me on schedule with cleanings every six months and each of the hygienists who cleaned my teeth in the past 5 years were excellent. I've had 2 crowns with no problems at all. Appt started late. The tech was unprofessional and uncaring. I was chocking on water the entire time, even spit it up onto my face and clothes. Tech blamed me stating I closed my mouth to fast. Broke my tooth and called around to find someone to make a same day appointment to get a crown. Found this place. I called at 8am and had an appointment at 10:30. I was told that I would probably have to wait but to my surprise,I didn't. They were very professional and took care of me. I received a temporary crown and will receive my permanent one next week. The receptionist who answers the Phone says 'they hadn't received it yet'. (Wha???) That's strike one. When I try to make an appointment for a root canal, she says she will have to make an appointment with the general dentist to get a referral. I tell her I have one from my own. I have been regularly going to Oracle Modern Dentistry for about 2 years now. When I first started going regularly to see them I had been looking for a dentist office that I felt I could trust for roughly 3 years. The dentists here are phenomenal. I was seeing Dr. Bortz for several visits, and I actually looked forward to my exams with him. He is very calm, relaxing, hilarious, and extremely knowledgable (AND the best part of his knowledge is that he is willing to take the time to explain anything you may have a question about in depth- which is why I now have such a deep understanding of tooth enamel). Upon my last exam and cleaning visit a few weeks ago I had the wonderful Dr. Snare, who is equally as amazing and patient, calming, and knowledgeable. I have a lot of anxiety about dental work, and I have had a lot of really awful experiences with dentists, but I just had a cavity filled and two amalgam cavities replaced by Dr. Snare this morning and it was the least amount of anxiety I have ever felt at the dentist. She did amazing work, and I very honestly can't wait to go back to the dentist for my next cleaning. Things I love about OMD besides the dentists: the building is always super clean and bright, the assitants/techs are always really pleasant and helpful, they use really modern equipment and procedures (this allows faster procedures with less discomfort), and the best part: if you need dental work of any kind they can always do it IMMEDIATELY. If you want them to. If you don't want them to you can just ask to schedule a later appointment. As far as cost: dental work is expensive but I feel very strongly that Oracle Modern Dentistry charges really fair pricing for the services they provide and they work really well with my insurance. They are always up front about the cost of any procedures necessary, and I don't feel they ever propose unnecessary upgrades or procedures. I never feel pressured to buy product or service, and I always leave knowing exactly what something costs. It really shows that OMD is growing and always learning new techniques and making sure their patients are well-cared for. I started out loving these people!!! I missed my old dentist of 20 something years who retired. After a few cleanings they started in on my to have a $500.00 or more deep cleaning. They kept pushing this and I kept saying no and seeing different people every time I went in. I was getting perturbed and I kept saying no. They then said they could not longer clean my teeth until I submitted to $1000 deep cleaning. I was outraged, they are my teeth!!! So if I loose every single tooth (which was not going to happen) it is my right. I've never even had a cavity, little lone end up a toothless crack addict wannabe. They then plagued me with emails, calls, and texts saying I had an appointment to get this extreme cleaning done. I kept telling them I have not intentions of coming in or getting the expensive treatment. This was like a date with a psycho from a Lifetime movie. i made an appointment here a few months back because of how positive the reviews were, and unfortunately i was left not only disappointed, but traumatized. when calling to book my appointment for a cleaning i made it abundantly clear how anxious i was about the dentist due to a history of mistreatment on multiple occasions. the front desk when taking the appointment weeks out, assured me that their staff was patient and understanding. when it came time to the appointment i was nervous and explained it explicitly again to the staff there. after a brief examination of my mouth and conversations occurring while sharp tools were prodding around, i became more and more anxious. i understood i hadnt been to the dentist in a few years due to moving across the country right before the world shut down. i knew i wasnt going to come in with perfect teeth health and gums. what i did know is that i needed a basic cleaning and that is what i was told i could receive when making this appointment. what i did know is that i felt extremely uncomfortable as these conversations that were happening about me, did not include me. what followed this was an active panic attack in the chair, hygienists looking at me as if i was a 3 headed dog, and dr yoon telling me that it was his way or the highway. unless i went along with every little thing exactly the way he said, i would have nothing done. there was no conversation and even less compassion. this office refuses patient advocation. trying to calm myself down from him telling me they are refusing treatment, they then tell me i can wait in the waiting room. as i am hyperventilating, choking on tears, and lightheaded. the suggestion i got from dr yoon was to "go somewhere else where they will sedate you". almost laughing in disbelief i ask him to kindly email me any recommendations of places that would do so. he left the room and i remember explicitly hearing that i wouldnt be charged. i then told the hygienist that i would not be having my panic attack in the filled waiting room of people and sat in my car until i was able to drive home. 2-3 months later and i received a bill in the mail for my visit. $820 was submitted to my insurance for "office visit" and xrays. i spent maybe 30 minutes in their office. i honestly sat longer in their parking lot trying to process the what the hell had just happened. $136 is what this office would like from me for doing absolutely nothing. maybe dr yoon was just having a bad or off day, sure. when i have a bad day i dont send my clients off in a disheveled and broken down state of mind telling them to find someone else. maybe thats just me. read more

Horrible, horrible experience. I went in a few weeks ago for a routine check-up and had to wait for over 45 minutes to be seen. After my x-rays were completed, I was told that I would not be able to get my cleaning done and would need to come back in due to a dental hygienist calling out sick. Why wouldn't they call me that morning to reschedule?? After that news, I had to wait another 45 minutes for the dentist. No one came in to give me a status update, and I had to search someone out to give me an update, as I thought they had forgotten me. All in all, it was a 3 hour experience. I had to go back in today to get a crown replaced. I showed up for my appointment on time, only to wait AGAIN for over an hour for my cleaning. While in the middle of my cleaning, the dental assistant informed me that my dentist was running behind and it would be at least another hour before I could be seen, and asked if I would be fine rescheduling. At that point I asked for a refund, given that I had just paid them over $1000 only to be waiting around for two hours. I would not recommend this practice to anyone. My husband had an appointment with this dentist on a different day, and had a very similar experience. The hygienist only works one day a week, so it is impossible to schedule a cleaning unless it is months and months in advance. I would never in my wildest dreams imagine I would be Yelping my dentist and giving them 5 stars. I moved to Tucson almost 2 years ago and avoided finding a dentist that entire time. But thanks to driving past Oracle Modern Dentistry several times a week and nagging texts from my darling mother, I scheduled an appointment. My appointment was at 4PM and when I looked at my watch when I was done with X-rays, it was 4:08. Dr. Ashraf is extremely personable and (almost) makes you forget you're even at the dentist. And In case you didn't catch on, I'm not such a fan of going to the dentist... but everyone from Dr. Ashraf himself to the X-ray tech to the receptionist was so friendly, it really put me at ease and I (almost) absolutely loved being there! I have always been hesitant to go to the dentist, as I've grown accustomed to being charged for procedures I don't need, barely being treated by a hygienist with the dentist only popping in to say hello, and overall having unsatisfactory visits. All of my fears were immediately resolved as soon as I walked into the office. The staff was friendly, the office was clean and modern, and it wasn't crowded and uncomfortable. I was a new customer, so I got a 59 dollar cleaning with x-rays. First of all, I've never had so many images taken in my life. If there were any issues with my teeth, there was no way they were missing them here. They used this cool technology to make a panoramic image of my whole mouth to visualize everything at once, it was amazing. I'm a physician, and even I was blown away by the technology this dentists office was using. I could go on and on, but lets just say this place is light years ahead of any other dentists office I had ever been to. My hygienist was really nice and helpful. Very professional and good at her job. The dentists chairs have HDTVs built in, so I had a hard time prioritizing between the gorgeous hygienist and sportscenter. My dentist was AMAZING. He explained that he had only been working there for a year, but he was great at his job. Unlike my last dentist, he was there for a majority of my appointment and did a great job explaining what was being done, and what was going to be done. I have very sensitive teeth and had no issues whatsoever. I would highly recommend Dr. Ashraf to any of my friends or family. There's nothing else to be said besides its the best dental experience I've ever had in my life. New, modern technology and a friendly staff who knows that they're doing. read more

I appreciate that the business has every version of modern technology a person could imagine from iPads to flat screen televisions to watch while the dentist is cleaning the teeth. I have not had a cavity in my life, so when we got to the final phase and they were trying to sell me a bunch of unnecessary products and services, I was COMPLETELY turned off. Nice people, but there are way too many quality dentists in town to deal with trying to figure out if the dentist is trying to make sure their product sales are up or if they are really concerned about your oral health. I had to find a new dentist after my insurance changed and this place was in network. This office is incredibly high tech with friendly front and back office staff. My dentist Dr Bortz handles both general dentistry and orthodontics and was extremely knowledgeable, professional,friendly, and thorough. I felt like I was in good hands. The dental assistant and the dental hygienist were both professional, kind, and gave good directions and education. Also, the hygienist was very gentle - I know that matters to many people ! I'm glad I came here - and I'll also be getting an Invisilign retainer to replace my bottom "permanent" retainer from the 90's (ha!). The office is clean, comfortable, and they take payments in Apple Pay/android/etc in addition to taking all major credit cards. Just to note I haven't been to a dental office in a while due to a bad experience from the past. Therefore coming to a dental office slightly frightens me. With that being said, I finally man'd up and came and I have to say I feel very happy with my decision to not only come but to this location. With the first step walking in I immediately felt welcomed but by greeted hysterically with my "accidentally" slamming the door. We all knew it was joking around so my nervous emotions instantly switched to my outgoing, loud and sociable self. I suddenly felt as if I've known the staff for years and have been coming to that dental office for years. I was examined for my wisdom teeth (4) removal as I was feeling much pain. They went ahead and set up me up for the examination and kindly didn't hesitate to let me ask curious questions. I had my teeth cleaning done and my wisdom teeth surgery done this last week, in which I'm still recovering. The hygienist did a great job in cleaning my teeth and made sure to go at my pace letting me stop whenever I felt discomfort or needed more numbing ointment applied. I felt clean and fresh in be end result. As for the surgery the next following week, it flew by like Randy Johnson's baseball being pitched. Dr. White did a great job in explaining the procedure and what were my risk however with a blink of an eye and the kicking in of the anesthetic I was done with surgery and on my loopy way home. What was nice was that Dr. White gave me a courtesy call later that day to check on me however I was too drugged to answer but was happy to know he left a voicemail to check up on me. Overall my experience here was amazing. I will recommend anyone and especially if you're afraid (trust me, I was). I feel happy and satisfied to know my mouth is in good hands. I was able to get X-rays, teeth cleaning and a prompt dentist visit. Sharon the dental assistant was so friendly and helpful with my X-rays and care. She asked if I needed anything and water and television while i waited for teeth cleaning. Friendly and compassionate service. Kim cleaned my teeth and was very friendly and supportive when I needed help with cleaning of my mouth and even took out a plaque build up. This place has several major problems. They constantly insisted that I needed the most expensive option to repair or replace older dental work. Second opinions from nearby locally owned & operated dental practices gave me far less expensive options. They told me that I needed periodontal cleaning. Again, a second opinion from another dentist told me that the regular & far less expensive cleaning that was fully covered by my insurance was fine. This place also constantly tried to get me to buy add-ons to help keep my gums in shape. I checked on the names of these with a School of Dental Medicine administrator. She said that they were little more than voodoo treatments just to make more money. Additionally, their turnover in staff is stunning, with front-line people being largely incompetent. read more

I called the same day and they were able to get me in within a couple of hours! Both doctors greeted me and ensured I was getting the best treatment from all staff! My husband had his wisdom teeth removed at this office, and being a newlywed couple with a young child, we had to go on a payment plan to afford the procedure. We were put on an auto bill pay and assured that after the balance had been satisfied, the bill pay would cease. After we fulfilled our payments, another payment was still taken from our account. Being understandable of mistakes, we called and we're reimbursed within 3 days via check delivered to our home address. A month later, a payment was taken out yet again on a Sunday. This time our account was overdrafted and left us in a very tight spot financially. Understandably upset, we called first thing Monday morning and asked for immediate reimbursement. We were assured by the accountant, Steve, we would be reimbursed straight into our account within 24 hours. Tuesday came and went without any reimbursement. We called Wednesday and were assured yet again by Steve it should take no more than another 24 hours for us to get our money back. Thursday morning we called yet again, as there was still no money. Staff was not hiding their annoyance with or phone calls, even though we explained we desperately needed this money that was rightfully ours. We were told it was the fault of our bank. We called our bank and were told there was no pending deposits into our account. TEN DAYS AFTER THE INITIAL WITHDRAWAL, we finally got our money back. This took over a week to reimburse a family that was not only wrongfully billed, but assured time and time again we would get our money within 24 hours. This was beyond the scope of a simple error, and was handled incredibly unprofessionally. Staff, especially Steve, desperately requires more training in reimbursements and how they are processed. Further training is also necessary in how to be empathetic and how to escalate serious issues to a supervisor. To tell a family they will receive payment in 24 hours is unacceptable and was clearly a lie in a failed attempt to diffuse a situation that was by their wrong doing. In every phone call, their "third party system" that handles the refunds was blamed and no ownership was taken by the staff of this facility. They did not offer to rush the reimbursement even after repeatedly telling them this was putting a huge strain on our family, nor did they take any responsibility for the error of the delayed reimbursement or the repeated billing of a customers account who did not owe them money. We will obviously never be returning, and I hope that prospective customers would think twice before doing business, ESPECIALLY anyone that would require going on a payment plan. The entire ordeal was a horrible mess that would have easily been avoided with a more competent and well trained staff. I am writing for a 2nd time about this dental office. Last year they overcharged me for a crown. This year they did it again. It took months to get my EOB from my dental insurance. The dental office said that they did not have all of my information to process claim. But all other claims where processed. I really like the dentist in this office. The office manager is not always pleasant when confronting her with a problem on a bill. I call many times and she is not in the office and will not return my call. I call numerous times and can wait weeks to here from her. The procedure was done in February and I am still waiting. I am being overcharged 1,400! The dentist office has a contract with my insurance and they say they cannot charge me more than what I am owed. Not the Case!! Went in very excited because I finally found a place to do a cleaning with my braces on. The front desk ladies were very welcoming and kind. However, once dr weaver entered my room after having me wait 40mins he was very rude. He bashed my orthodontist which I found highly inappropriate as well as unprofessional, he then continued to bash me and almost made me cry with his rude remarks and behavior. Idk if it was because of his age he forgot what proper bedside manner was, but I have never felt so worthless while visiting any dentistry or medical site. He then continued to praise himself for 20mins saying he was the best and he had every right to be as rude as he was because of that. While also cussing throughout the entire conversation. I was given no solutions to the many issues he pointed out he just kept making me more insecure as the conversation went on and then ended with saying that there's a reason he's booked out for a month (most dentistry's are). I have been here several times for cleanings and 3 crowns over the last year. Dr. Boritz is very straightforward and knowledgeable at what he does. He has made it where I now travel from Scottsdale to him due to his professionalism and great work. His office is always very clean and staff very courteous. Before I begin on the services, I had a very unpleasant experience upon arriving. My appointment was at noon and I arrived 20 minutes early (as requested by the office) but the front door was locked. It was raining and I knocked loudly on the door (glass panes that made it easy to see me) but no one came to open the door. It took about 20 minutes before someone came to unlock the door. I understand they were probably eating lunch, but it was quite a turn off finding the door locked when staff were present in the building during office hours. After moving to Tucson I tried this office and was surprised that they told me I had gum disease and would require additional treatments amounting to 250 dollars after my insurance. Ironically they suggested the same for my husband so we walked out of that office paying an additional 500 dollars out of pocket. I take excellent care of my teeth. I brush 2-3 times a day (2-4 minutes of brushing each time) and floss daily (completely along the edge of each tooth down past the gums. I've never been told I've had gum problems and I've frequented the dentist every 6 months for the last 4 years (prior to that it was about every year). While at the office I asked if the gum disease occurred in the last year but I was informed that the level of gum disease I had took years. When I asked why I had never been informed of the problem by another dentist I was told "well, you can always get a second opinion ..." too bad they told me this AFTER we paid. I did get a second opinion and I learned the treatments I paid for were unnecessary. Overall the staff was friendly and they had modern equipment and were thorough on their x-rays, but I'll never go back because I felt the additional charges and treatments were unnecessary and suggested for their financial gain. read more

Arguably the best dentistry services I have received, both military and civilian. The technology is state of the art, including 3D tooth mapping, digital X-Rays (with bedside review capability), and CEREC options, allowing for upgraded solutions on my teeth that were previously not possible. I had multiple procedures performed by Dr. Bortz, and I can say his standard of care is well above my previous expectations. His attention to detail, proficiency, and perfectionist mindset allowed for a long term solution on a complex tooth which previous (military and civilian) dentists were unable to get right for years. I will continue to keep him as my primary care provider, and highly recommend him to new patients. One of the friendliest and most professional dental experiences I have ever had, the staff was very nice and polite. I had a bad tooth ache and just walked in right before they were gonna close but they still made time to see me and take care of my tooth issue. The dentist was extremely knowledgeable and told me exactly what I need to do so that my excessive grinding won't affect my teeth so much and how i can do certain tooth care techniques to help with my situation. I was in Tucson on vacation when the need for a root canal became too evident. I called several dentists and this place could get me in the next day and was told that the ball-park cost would be $400 - $600. I got there the next morning and after it was determined that I really did need a root canal I was numbed up. Then the office manager came in and started to talk about the charges. The procedure would start at $1600 and could go as high as $2800. After a lot of disbelief and yelling on my part I was told I could leave and go to another dentist and I would not be charged for all that was done so far. I decided to stay and have the job completed since I didn't want to spend another day in pain on vacation. They did a good job, as far as I can tell, but I was charged $1400. That's more than three times the low price stated. GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT!! And don't fall for unnecessary extras. read more
