Chain oral surgery business, there business or billing is awful, I paid in full on day of appointment, gave my insurance info., they said they would submit, they never did and I've called and went into office never to get call from billing office mind you 2 weeks after my appointment they called about balance, which I had paid in full at time of consultation and on top of that they billed for X-rays they never took, they used my dentist X-ray he sent over. There billing is located somewhere but not at the office and this organization is a chain dealership, if your paying upfront I'd go somewhere else, where the patient matters, the good is they did remove teeth but had to go back in for bone chips, not fun! My dad complained about a toothache after eating a hamburger that I had made for him. (And NO, it was not because of my cooking! Buwahahahahaha!) Originally, he thought maybe it was fluke (about the toothache), and was hoping it was just temporary, but after a few days when it didn't go away, I ended up taking my dad to see my dentist - Dr. Steven Kumasaka in Kaneohe. After Dr. Steve looked at my father's tooth, he knew exactly what was causing the pain, and decided to refer my dad to "Oral Surgery Hawaii" because my dad had excessive bleeding (probably due to my dad taking blood thinners) in the past, when Dr. Steve had to remove a tooth for my dad. Oral Surgery Hawaii has three offices - they have an office in town, at the Ala Moana building, an office in Aiea, & an office in Kaneohe. Upon calling Oral Surgery Hawaii, I elected to make an appointment for my dad at the office in town because it was close to my workplace where I could easily drop off, and pick up my dad. Dr. Craig Yamamoto was the oral surgeon who took care of my dad, and I must say that he did an outstanding job doing my dad's surgery as there was minimum bleeding, & the procedure wasn't to painful for him either. The staff at Oral Surgery Hawaii was very professional, and informative. They explained to me on what to do for my dad after the surgery, as well as the staff following up the next day to see how my dad was doing. Nobody wants a tooth removed, but if you ever need something like this done, I can easily say that going to Oral Surgery Hawaii is a great place, and if you're lucky enough to get Dr. Craig Yamamoto, even better! Usually because of past trauma, I have always been very apprehensive of going to any dentist but the moment they brought me into the back I felt completely comfortable. I was referred here to see Dr Yamamoto from my regular dentist for a tooth extraction. I had a really great experience here and I'd recommend this business. - Prompt, easy and quick to schedule an appointment to be seen -Dr Yamamoto listened to my concerns and made a very reasonable plan to move forward based off my needs and wants - Financial fees were discussed and were fair. - All staff was friendly and professional The only negative thing I can say is the location. It's in the Bank of Hawaii building but there is no sign out front to indicate that is where they are. I think the office needs to inform the patient upon scheduling the first appointment that it is located there. All in all, great experience. My tooth extraction was quick and painless. Unprofessional Service. Checked in for a consultation regarding my daughter's wisdom teeth being pulled out. Upon arrival I provided them with my dental insurance information in order to confirm coverage. X-rays were conducted, no consent forms were provided or signed at this time. After the X-rays were taken and they informed me they were not included in my dental insurances network and charged me for the X-ray, which I had to pay for out of pocket. I told them I would not have agreed to the X-ray had i know my insurance would not cover the charges. To date, no one has even responded to my complaints.... very unprofessional... read more

I had implant surgery over a year ago and was supposed to finish --- then Covid!!!! So I'm stuck on the Mainland with my implant but no way to finish the work. I finally get to travel back for my torque test and I happily see all the staff still here and they are all still the smiling happy faces I remember from over a year ago. Pros: The office is located in the Ala Moana Building. You can park at Ala Moana Center and walk over. The staff are generally efficient. (Very business like.) Neutral: Consultation fee is about $39. Just be aware. Cons: Dr. Kitamura looked over the medication that I was taking. I mentioned to him about the medications during the consultation, and he said it was okay to continue. However, it turns out that the medication had a blood thinning side effect. It took more than 2 days until the bleeding stopped. It was my first time getting my teeth extracted and I wasn't sure what is a normal bleeding so I didn't mention the conditions bleeding when the office called the next day. (luckily it was not profusely bleeding.) I only found about the blood thinning side effect of my medication while talking to my physician after a week. If you take medications, I recommend checking with your physician before scheduling an appointment or find a dentist who is more knowledgeable and thorough. My wisdom tooth was not that big and was partially out so it didn't end with the worst case scenario. But if my wisdom teeth were impacted and big (= more blood), it could have been literally a bloody tragedy. If you have other health issues and fully impacted teeth, I recommend finding another dentist. I think Dr. Kitamura will be fine if you are not taking any medications and don't have any health issues. Some dentists have dual degrees (dds/md) so they may be better if you have other health issues. read more

Let me start by saying i've put off getting my wisdom teeth removed until basically what could be considered the last minute as they were really causing me issues by the time I decided to finally schedule everything. This office was honestly a small nightmare to find (but the office receptionist was very helpful when I called in a panic trying to find it (I was lost in two different parking decks...i'm a small town lady ahaha) but once I finally found the parking area it was easy to find again. Scheduling my removal was so easy, plenty of options for days/locations to have it done. The office is so clean & comfy. The staff/surgery assistants were truly one of my favorite parts of it all, they had a few lighthearted questions and jokes to help ease my nerves (whether they knew it or not, their personalities calmed me during the whole process). Dr Kitamura was an actual dream when it came to this whole experience, he was so sweet & reassuring that I honestly looked forward to the second part of my removal without any worries or hesitation. We broke the surgeries into two sessions, one to remove one side, and the next to remove the other (this helped me SO much when it came to not only the healing process, but the cost of it all as well). I scheduled them about 2 weeks from each other, so after the first surgery was SUCH A BREEZE, the second one took less than 3 minutes & I was back out the door to heal. My first removal healed so quickly even the staff were impressed. The second one was so quick & easy, the entire thing was less painful & easier than getting a filling or cleaning! He numbs you so well that it really is so easy & painless, they did such a great job i'm completely healed on both sides within the week of my last removal. I would recommend this office to anyone for ANY need or reason. They truly are the exception when it comes to painless, easy, comfortable dental work/surgery. I'm honestly shocked by how immensely wonderful this entire experience was! I had no swelling or excess pain from the entire thing! I cry worse than a girl when it comes to going to the dentist. I just had my molar extracted yesterday because it cracked from eating an m&m peanut a couple weeks ago. Young Dr. Kitamura and the staff were very kind and helpful in answering all of my anxiety filled questions. It took Dr. Kitamura a little longer probably than he expected to extract my tooth because he kept saying my tooth was stubborn and my jawbone was very hard. But when it was all over I didn't even know the tooth was already extracted. What he said would take about 15 minutes took an additional 10. To be honest with you I thought he was going to take a break because he may have gotten tired. But in the end it was painless and Dr. Kitamura and his assistant did a fantastic job. As I age, my tongue reflexes seems to have slowed considerably & I've bit my tongue so many times that a raised lesion formed on it. I was hoping that it would go away, but it didn't. Because the lesion was sticking out from my tongue, I was biting that area more often & it made eating not so enjoyable. It also made me feel self-conscious because it looked like a wart on my tongue. Yesterday, I went to see Dr. Thomas Yamamoto at Oral Surgery Hawaii. His assistants, Tatiana & Chelsea, did a great job easing my nervousness because I've never been in an oral surgeon's chair before. Dr. Thomas gave me the option of continuing to monitor it or removing it. I decided that I wanted it removed. It took him about ten minutes to remove it & I barely felt a thing. Today, I hardly have any discomfort. Dr. Thomas was very gentle & caring. He reassured me that the lesion was probably nothing to be concerned about but specimen was being sent to a pathologist for testing just to be sure. Teeth can be so stubborn and rude - refusing to go even when they're no longer needed or wanted. When one of my pesky wisdom teeth required a forceful eviction, I was referred to Dr. Kitamura. The reception area is beautifully modern, furnished with ample seating, soft lighting, and air plants. I was tempted to ask how they've managed to keep them so healthy and alive, I've killed all of mine. :( Each staff member was pleasant, helpful, and professional. Dr. Kitamura explained the procedure and all possible risks. Local anesthetic was administered, and was probably the worst part of the entire experience. The extraction itself was quick, but not without a lot of pressure. My poor molar put up a good fight. Parting with a tooth is not easy business. These suckers hang on, and I guess that's a good thing for the teeth you do want to keep. Immediately following the extraction, gauze was placed in the toothless void. I was instructed to bite down on it for about an hour. Prescriptions for pain were given, but were really not required. I do have a high pain tolerance, though. Written and oral post-operative instructions were provided/explained. I received a follow-up call (voicemail) the next day, and was given the option to call with any questions or concerns. Although having to undergo oral surgery isn't enjoyable, Dr. Kitamura and staff did everything to make it as pleasant as possible. He even took the time to wipe what was probably a crimson-stained corner of my mouth, immediately after he won the tug-of-war with my tooth. I am very appreciative of the care provided by Dr. Kitamura, a.k.a. tooth wrangler. read more

This review is for Dr.Hironaka. I have been working with him for the past few months. He had to do 2 extractions and help me get rid of a nasty sinus infection that stemmed from the infections in my teeth. I was also healing from brain surgery at the time so my overall healing was slow and I had to see him many times over a 3 month period. At times I was worried, but whenever I called he always got back to me in less than 24 hours and was always reassuring. Today we finally got news that my sinus infection was almost gone and I was so happy. I just want to thank this doctor and the nice team that works with him for being so kind to me and not giving up on me. Dr. Hironaka has an incredible bedside manner and was even good with my 2 year old who often had to come with me to appointments. I have never experienced a doctor who was as nice as him and truly cared. Even his surgical staff was super cool too. It makes me look forward to getting my dental implant in the future. They were all very nice, doctor, receptionist, and medical assistants but I will never return! I've received many shots so I'm not sure what he did wrong. The pain from his shot was a 20 out of 10! I was kicking and yelling from the pain. During the procedure he made comments like, " oh that's not supposed to happen", "hmmmm, I was too aggressive on that one," " I have to redo the sutures", I called a week after my procedure because I was worried something was wrong since my mouth was swelling up again. The gal said they would call me back. I was so worried that something bad was happening to the site that was operated on. I was really scared because I've never had this type of procedure done before. But no call came. They did call the next day but I needed the help the night before! At my follow up visit I did talk to one of your assistants and she remembered me. She remembered me as the one kicking and yelling because of the pain. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Thomas Yamamoto DDS. He got straight to the point and explained everything to me about my teeth extraction surgery and my specific case. Everything went by very fast, and the most amazing part it was painless. I didn't even know he took out my bottom left premolar. I was very worried about my right side because it was submerged. But he was so fast and made sure the integrity of my other surrounding teeth, and jaw bone were great. His assistant was great in explaining everything else as well and she made me feel very comfortable. Got referred here for a regular tooth extraction - one of my teeth was too far gone to "save" according to the opinion of the general dentist I went to (Christopher Chow, who's also a great dentist!) and Dr. Blake Ishikawa of Honolulu Endodontics. Got referred here by Dr. Chow to get the extraction done. Let this be a lesson to you all folks, take care of your teeth - I'm trying to "overhaul" years of neglect so I can smile again with confidence. Unfortunately, they don't take the insurance I have, HMAA - but the cost of the tooth extraction was relatively cheap compared to my other procedures. I do wish I could come here again if I ever need my teeth done, because their service was quick and professional. All the assistants were very friendly and patient with my questions and Dr. Blake Kitamura (not related in any way to Dr. Blake Ishikawa, but service is just as awesome) explained the whole procedure to me. The setup and the local anesthesia took longer than the actual extraction, which itself only took a whopping 3 minutes. I was in at 12:00 PM and was out by 12:45 PM - and they do Saturdays! So convenient. Their Ala Moana office is located on the 17th floor of the Ala Moana Building - if you can't find parking at the building just park on the 4th floor Ala Moana parking structure. Park as close to the building side as possible - Ala Moana conveniently has a little bridge you can cross from the shopping center structure to the Ala Moana Building itself. They even have an online form you can fill out to expedite the process. Form is all electronic and takes about 5 minutes to fill out. Very quick. Trust me, if you folks are worried about the dentist and root canals and all that, the worst part of any of that is the anesthesia. That part will hurt, but after that the rest of it is just a funky numbing feeling. I guess my days at my old dentist when I was a little kid freaked me out - back then they didn't use local anesthetics and used novacaine, but for me the novacaine didn't do much to sedate me - I could still feel the pain and I still have childhood memories of it. Local anesthesia on the other hand is a small bit of a pain at the beginning, and then bam, you're good for a little while and you don't feel a *thing*! Don't be afraid to ask questions - I was blessed to be referred here by an already great dentist - great dentists know great dentists, it seems. Between Dr Chow for general dentistry, Dr. Kitamura for my oral surgery, and Dr. Ishikawa for my "tough to reach" root canals, I think I have an awesome team of dentists I can now trust on to take care of my dental health for years to come. To Dr Yamamoto and Kitamura - please consider accepting HMAA. I would love to refer my coworkers to here if they need oral surgery done. You folks are awesome! read more

Maybe I didn't need to hold off getting out my wisdoms for 10 years if I had known it was that easy lol. Got referred to Oral Surgery Hawaii from my dentist to get my wisdoms removed. I should've done it when I was in my teens but had just been putting it off year after year. They weren't really bothering me so I didn't have that urgency to go. If I had known how quick and easy the procedure would be then I would've gone sooner. Dr. Kitamura did an excellent job with my 4 wisdom extractions. I opted for the nitrous just to take the edge off a little and the procedure was relatively pain free. I didn't feel a thing except for my last bottom tooth that was a little stubborn. I believe that was the tooth I had that was close to a nerve so I needed a little more lidocaine for that one. Dr. Kitamura works so efficiently and explains everything he's doing throughout the procedure so you know what to expect. No surprises! Dr. Craig Yamamoto did my implant and I could have not asked for a better doctor. Incredibly skilled and professional, I did not feel any pain or discomfort. My implant was a success and I truly believe it has EVERYTHING to do with who your oral surgeon is. I'm weird. I love the dentist. Always have. I get excited for my twice a year check-ups. Unfortunately, this was not something that was passed down to my youngest. My youngest had needed some of her teeth pulled. For a while. There was no way around it for her braces. She had had a very BAD previous experience with another practice when she was 4, so you can say she was traumatized. So, for this procedure, we really needed someone who understood her fear and could be patient, kind, and understanding. That person is Dr. Blake Kitamura. We had our initial consult with Dr. Blake and his team. They sat there and listened to my daughter's previous experience. They asked my daughter questions and made suggestions on her treatment & asked her what she wanted to do. She really appreciated how they took her opinion into account. Together they came up with a decision. On the day of her surgery, her wheezing from the vog prevented her from going with the initial surgery plan. Dr. Blake & team gave us options & we went for it. Due to the change, my daughter's anxiety sky rocketed. I was about to give up, but the team pushed through and spoke with her & took their time. They stopped whenever she needed a break. They came to get me when she asked. They were so patient throughout the WHOLE process. There was no pushing, prodding, or threats. I cannot say enough about the amount of patience they had. The procedure started at 8:30am and didn't finish until 90 minutes later. They kept her calm & finished the job. Yay! Thank you Dr. Blake, Roxie, Nicole, Laney, & everyone else that helped. I got my upper left tooth pulled out by Dr. Kitamura. I was so nervous because I had an infection and was afraid of the nerve not being able to get all numbed out. But it did and it took Dr. Kitamura about 2 minutes to pull it out! And I felt nothing. Had no pain afterwards either and only took 2 of the prescribed pills (had 8 in total). Afterwards there was some problems with my jaw and he called me and comforted me, told me to call him if anything should worry me. I went to Hawaii Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Inc to see Dr. Lawler, D.D.S. for wisdom tooth extraction. I was in extreme pain and went to Naval sick call and they referred me to him the same morning. When I initially got to the office, the staff was very respectful of my concerns and helped me get situated quickly with paperwork and checking in. The office looked clean, it was relatively small which I prefer. When my time came up, they sat me down in the chair and went through everything with me. The doctor and the assistant were genuinely concerned with every question I had. I'm one of the most nervous dentist-going people you'll ever meet, and they took care of that. They hooked me up to the laughing gas for about 5 minutes to calm my nerves, then threw on the IV and a bite block, and that was it. I woke up half an hour or so later with no wisdom teeth and virtually no memory of what happened. When I woke, I was not groggy, I was not tired, I felt excellent. It was an incredibly seamless experience. That's not it! Post-surgery was absolutely wonderful. I've developed virtually no swelling, and I have no pain to warrant medication above Ibuprofen. I have a check-up coming Saturday and I'm sure they'll be just as pleased as I am/was. I highly recommend this dentist for any wisdom tooth extraction you need done. I would recommend other oral surgeries too based on my experience, however I cannot say for sure because I've not had any other surgical procedures. I previously had Dr. Yamamoto for a previous surgery years back. Fortunately, I had him again to remove my wisdom teeth. The whole process has never been more seamless, smooth, and comforting. Dr. Yamamoto was able to relay all the information we needed, any questions we asked, etc. The procedure was flawless. I barely felt pain during, as well as post-procedure based on following the instructions given. It is officially a week since the extraction, and the follow up appointment went swell.
