Accidentally stumbled upon Orange Canyon amidst a dire emergency that my local vet wasn't equipped to handle. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I'm not familiar with them for routine pet care (though can say that the other pet parents I saw in my so-far two visits have seemed very happy with them, and their vibe is one of a small town family vet who really cares), I can tell you how absolutely grateful I am that a 5a google led me in their direction two days ago.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While my situation is unique and still in process, I can say that I'm already so impressed by their front office, their techs, the small-town feel, even how quickly meds come out [at my current clinic, which I love, we tend to wait upwards of 30 minutes for post-visit meds; here, I was stunned when they were handed to me after 5], and obviously the care I and my pet have personally thus far received, that I'm considering making them my regular clinic, even though they are 30 minutes from me without traffic. My experience there has drawn into very narrow focus the difference between private and corporate clinics, and I haven't had the benefit of that comparison in many years. So especially if you're local [or even otherwise] and looking for a good clinic to care for your four legged family members, I strongly urge you to give them a shot. Outstanding! I was able to make an appointment online. My first visit was curbside and Dr. Jackson was amazing. She came outside and spoke to me at my vehicle and answered all my questions. I didn't feel rushed at all. She is super knowledgeable about my specific dog breed (Dalmatian). For my second visit, I got to go inside and the hospital is beautiful and so clean. Dr. Cassidy Jackson is the ONLY vet I'll ever take one of my pets to. I don't care if she moves even further away then the 30 minute drive I do now! She is so knowledgeable and incredibly caring and loving of my sweet cat Pearl that I rescued from a horrific situation 4 yrs ago. After leaving her previous office, I tried other vets nearby. Both were total failures; one with a misdiagnosis, and one vet that refuses to pick up a tortie. Really??? I was so relieved to find Dr. Jackson again. She remembered Pearl and was well aware of her difficult years before I rescued her. Now with kidney and thyroid issues, Pearl needs blood tests somewhat regularly, and I totally appreciate that she follows up with me so quickly with lab results. She also has a "cat-whisperer" technician in her office that can draw blood, take a urine sample via needle in the bladder, AND trim her nails before Pearl's nice side expires and her "tortitude-behavior" comes out. Brought my senior bulldog to meet with Dr. Jackson over some ear infections, etc after moving from Costa Mesa. As requested, I brought a large folder with his medical records. Dr. Jackson was lovely and knowledgeable. We noticed a lump on his testicle a few months later and brought him back in, this time getting a substitute veterinarian who did seem quite capable. We ended up getting him neutered at a speciality hospital due to the airway and anesthesia concerns with his breed. After that procedure, he seemed to develop an infection at the incision site, and my partner brought him back to Orange Canyon and this time getting Dr. Murphy. They charged in excess of $400 for the testing. Okay. We did not hear back for nearly a week. It turned out that the site was infected and they did not call us. They submitted the results through their app. What?! A positive test result merits a phone call. I was extremely upset. Fast forward a few months to the height of flea season, and this time my partner brought in both of our dogs. Again, he met Dr. Murphy. She was unhinged, accusing us of withholding our dogs' medical records and being anti vaxxers. What?! Not the case at all. If the staff failed to copy or store the records I brought in on the initial appointment, that is their own internal issue. Does not make us delinquent pet owners. Our other dog, Nova, had a skin infection. This was pretty obvious from bumps on her entire body. Dr. Murphy threatened to withhold treatment if we didn't get vaccines that day for the other dog. There were no questions, no curiosity. Just assumption, accusation, and projection. We moved forward with it out of expediency to get the dogs well, but I will never bring one of our pets there again. They are also pretty expensive compared to other vets in the area and make it difficult to order medications through PetMeds/Chewy by only providing the paper RX and making you mail it in, as opposed to our new vet, who just approves the online request. 2 stars because Dr. Jackson seemed great, though we did not have many interactions with her. There are lots of other vets in Orange. I would suggest trying one of them first. read more

I have followed (AKA: stalked) Dr Lisa Macdonald all over Orange County with my current dog, as well as my former dog. She and all of the staff at this hospital are by far my favorite out of the many pet hospitals that I've been to. I have followed Dr. Jackson from a previous veterinary office and she has been the most empathetic, thorough and consistent veterinarian I have ever worked with. She literally saved my cats life, I can't think her enough. I brought him to her when he had urinary crystals. He kept blocking so we scheduled surgery and it ended up successful. It was rough time but I trusted her and she definitely is the reason I still have my best friend here with me today. Through blockages, asthma, allergy tests, chin acne. They have always make adjustments to create a safe space for him to get care. And he is not an easy cat, he does not present well in the vets office and has to be fully sedated with in office visits. ZERO STARS but yelp requires you to check one at least Took my 15 year old Shiba Inu in for an ultra of her gall bladder and they had her in the back on HER BACK for over an hour. When they finally brought her out they told me she need antibiotics for infect and Dr Jackson would call me about the infection and also the ultrasound findings. I also waited for hours in waiting room for the ultrasound person to show up I arrived at 12 waited until 2 for ultrasound left after 3pm.After charging me $675 ultrasound + $203 for antibiotics I finally got to go home. my poor pup went to sleep immediately and slept until 5:30 when she woke up suddenly coughing and hacking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Of course no one answered at Canyon Clinic and also NO One ever called me after appt as promised for results.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I restled with making a trip to the ER for the cough but stayed up all night taking her in the shower for steam to keep her airways open and help the cough and since they gave the $203.00 antibiotics I knew if she was getting pneumonia at least she was on antibiotics. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Orange Canyon at 9 am when they opened and Sarah answered (who is always just a little pissed off that you are bothering her) told what happened and she promised to have Dr Jackson call me as soon as she was done with her first patient.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She said dont go to the ER Dr Jackson will call you right back and we can see her. I told her that I want to bring her in as this started as a result for the ultrasound 3 hours after she was coughing and hacking. They had her on her back for over an hour and for older dogs that is WAY too long as their esophagus gets lax with age, and they can easily aspirate on their saliva. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I waited until 11 with NoCALL back and called Sarah again she said Dr Jackson said "the cough is not form anything they did"![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] How would she know if she hadn't even talked to me or looked at my pup? At the least shouldn't she have called me I was at her office for a procedure the day before and 3 hours later my dog started coughing and had a problem that she didn't have before she went in. Shouldn't she have called me anyway for a follow up from the procedure the day OF the procedure with 1. Findings on ultrasound & 2. why did she presc antibiotics in the first place?!? [[HIGHLIGHT]]I finally got a "TEXT" from Dr Jackson after I calle back again at 12 she stated "cough has nothing to do with ultrasound) I'm out of office now.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] WOW GREAT Professionalism (malpractice is what I call it) wouldn't you think she would at least want to see the dog and or made a call before she left the office not just letting me hang? When I called Sarah back (again with her attitude) she told me Dr Jackson is gone for the day and no one els is available to see her, so good luck I guess if your are that concerned take her to the ER! What unbelievable attitude here I am waiting for My VET to call me when my pup is in distress and I get that WOW! After spending over $900.00 ! At the least she should have had me bring her in for a look and and take an X- Ray of lungs. So I took her to another vet at 12;30 for an additional $980.00 for an evaluaction and he did chest X-rays. He told me more that likely she aspirated on her saliva during the ultrasound after being in her back for an hour or more and that older dogs cannot tolerate that due to age and esphofogus laxity with age. He said because she had started the antibiotics it didn't allow it to turn into pneumonia. I contact Dr Jackson to at the least get a refund of the Money spent for ultrasound and they said.NO. So now I will take them to Small Claims for failure to provide adequate care and negligence and they additional 1000.00 they cost me at a other vet. Whatever you do don't take your pets to Orange Canyon Vet they are not good animal loving providers, they only care about $ and that receptionist Sarah should be working at DMV with that attitude. Dr. Murphy, Dr. Jackson and the whole team are wonderful. Our dog liked our old vet, however, my sweet little one wasn't getting better. Surgery after surgery. One expensive test after another. I was frustrated, heartbroken, broke and exhausted. While I understand GOOD medical treatment for animals isn't free or cheap, I was starting to feel like a revenue generating opportunity at the expense of my pup. Then my cousin told me about Dr. Murphy. She was kind and honest about my girl's treatment and prognosis. My little girl was put on the right track and lived a good life for several years after meeting Dr. Murphy. We now have 3 dogs and they all go to OCPC. Dr. Jackson has been a wonderful addition. These ladies and the staff are amazing. We drive 30+ minutes each way from Long Beach that is how much we love them. I have brought my pets to Dr. MacDonald for years. It was a difficult decision to move from an "easy access" Irvine vet to one in Orange that is completely out of my way. However, it's Dr. Mac, and when I found her, I knew I had to follow her. She is kind, knowledgeable and conservative. She always gives me options about how I can treat Daisy. It is a business, they need to make money; however, Dr. Mac knows I'm a penny-pincher. To the people who are surprised by a large bill, I make sure I know what EVERYTHING costs before I allow it! (I even check prices on the food.) I took off the star is for two reasons: 1. They DO NOT call in prescriptions to a local pharmacy. I have to use my lunch hour to drive 20 min each way to pick it up. This includes chewy.com and 1800petmeds. I get that you want me to buy medication at your clinic, but it is difficult for me to justify when a $29. medication is $4 at Walmart. 2. They close at 5:00 ON THE DOT! I've even called a few times when the phones were turned over way before 5:00. I'm hoping their hours change, now that the pandemic is ending, so I have the ability to pick up my dog after work. One thing I really LIKED about their service during the pandemic. Dr. Mac came out to the car to talk to me, rather than just talk on the phone. That is a more personal touch and they should be commended for that decision. So, there have been some growing pains getting used to a new office and new staff. Sara and Tracy have been awesome! My initial experience here was with Dr. Jackson and she was great. Thorough and sensitive to our concerns and budget constraints. We returned about a year later for routine vaccinations and to have a growth checked. We saw Dr. Murphy and our experience was not anything like our first. My biggest complaint is that she decided to treat our dog's ear infection with a more expensive option without consulting me first. We left with a huge bill that I didn't expect and we didn't even get the necessary vaccinations. When we returned for the follow up a couple of weeks later, the clinic wanted to charge us for the follow up and more tests. Absolutely unacceptable and tone-deaf. First Vet Vist (since I adopted him)! Sherman here is a 4 month old Frenchie with a cleft palate. I was referred to Orange Canyon Pet Clinic from a co worker who has been bringing her dogs to Dr. Jackson since they were puppies. I brought Sherman in for his first check up, since I adopted him, and the last few shots that he needed. Dr. Jackson and the staff were extremely kind and welcoming. I love that Dr. Jackson spends a lot of time listening and asking questions about the puppy. Most vets that I've been to always made me feel rushed. Not with Dr. Jackson though! Like so many others posting here, I was a client of Dr Black that Dr. Murphy inherited when she bought out his practice. She states on her website this this is the first time she has owned her own practice - it shows! We live on an 8 acre ranch, with five horses, six barn kitties, and four Great Pyrenees dogs, and 1/2 dozen chickens. Dr Black handled our annual vaccinations, grooming, flea treatments...the works; we appreciated him, and certainly trusted him to help us take good care of all of our animals. But, in July 2018 we took four of our pets into the clinic for grooming and check ups....we had to request an introduction to meet Dr Murphy, as we hoped to learn if she would make house calls to do vaccinations on the barn cats as Dr Black had done in the past. When she graced us with her presence, she was short, ...actually rude. My first impression was that she felt entitled to the goodwill she inherited from the years of great customer service given by Dr Black to his clients...but I decided to reserve judgement, and try to be empathetic to the chaos that was obvious in the office under remodel and new staff. I didn't complain about the horrible grooming job on our dogs, again I just thought it was a new person doing it...and I didn't want to offend her. But six months later - when large patches of hair had not grown back on our dogs, I went to talk to her. She watched me wait for 45 minutes in her lobby, while she took other walk-in's... it would have been nice if she would have just acknowledged me - still I waited. When she finally decided to see me, I explained the situation and she showed me that she is easily offended by any sort of customer dissatisfaction. I had waited six months to see if my dogs hair would grow back in before complaining and when I did she told me she doesn't need clients like me that complain. This is my first public review and I have taken the time to share my experience to help the public know that this vet showed me that she is professionally immature and indifferent to my animals. That is a risk that any pet owner should consider before going to Dr Murphy. There are two types of people we all meet in business dealings....those that work from a position of power (fragile ego is required) - you know who they are...they love saying "NO"! Then, there are the gems that work from a position of service(ego checked at the door)...they say "Yes" or if not yes, then "How" - they take great pride in providing customer service. Great to have a vet that cares enough to take the time and come out to talk to me. Being a first time dog mom and not knowing a lot of things have caused me to worry. Initially I took my pup to another vet who couldn't take a min to answer my questions or concerns. Their technicians weren't confident in any answers and seemed to be in the wrong field. I wouldn't have continued to take him past his first vaccination except I had paid in advance for a plan for all his puppy shots. Once that was over I refused to continue there. SO HAPPY my friend had found Orange Canyon for their pup and recommended me there. Everytime Bash has gone, he's cheerful going in and coming out. ). The vet always comes out if I had a question or concern that I mentioned to the receptionist which is so important to me having had horrible experience before. Their technicians are sharp and in the event they aren't confident in the answer they will work to make sure you have contact with the vet as needed. I visited this location a few months ago on emergency.  I was at a near by park and my dog got stung by a bee.  He collapsed and went into shock.  I rushed here because they were the closest vet to us.  I ran in handed them my dog and just started crying!  The girls up front were so comforting and calmed me down.  Dr.  Murphy did all necessary treatments on my boy and saved him. I want to mention I have worked in the Veterinary field for 10 plus years.  I actually work at a hospital close to this location.  I work at a amazing hospital with high standards .  This hospital is right up there with us.  Their prices were reasonable.  The hospital area was very well kept.  What I am saying is.... I'm sorry to have to report my disappointment. The office manager Ashley is the most disrespectful person we have ever, and I mean EVER dealt with in a vet's office. I'm really disheartened that she is allowed to interact with patients and owners. I have been both an office manager and an administrative manager. Treating people with kindness and understanding go a long way, especially during a global crisis. This was the most unprofessional exchange with loyal and paying customers. **Dr. Murphy is a phenomenal doctor. She is kind, knowledgeable, end understanding. I trust her 100% with our animals. We've only ever had wonderful interactions with her. This review has nothing to do with Dr. Murphy's outstanding veterinary expertise. This has everything to do with the person who has been designated to represent her and her otherwise wonderful veterinary clinic.** We were not informed beforehand about the procedures that were to be done on our dogs. We came in for specific reasons for each dog. Our dogs are mostly healthy and very well loved. They decided to run a $250 blood panel on one of our dogs (who's healthy, with the exception of one eye), without our consent. Because we trusted them we handed our dogs over, at the curb, and let them do what we agreed to. When our dogs came out, we were presented with an $800 bill.... for two dogs who only needed senior checkups and a urinalysis. The bill also included 2 Bravecto tablets, for $160 (it is $105 at the Costco pharmacy). We were upset about the $250 blood panel. Ashley came outside and accused us of not caring about our pets. I was flabbergasted by the rude, condescending, and accusatory things she said to us. Never could I have ever imagined being treated like absolute garbage at our neighborhood vet. Never did she say "I'm sorry this happened and we feel bad about the mistake." Rather she said "We have plenty of people who come in here and trust us to do whatever we want to their pets, and they never question the charges." She proclaimed that we make a scene every time we come in (which is absolutely not true!). This inflammatory statement pushed us over the edge. We had honestly NEVER seen her there before. As long as this woman works there, we will not be back. As we were leaving, she said loudly to me "You need to learn to respect people!" The audacity! Respect is earned. If you treat people terribly, you should never anticipate respect in return. We will take our pets elsewhere, where we feel respected and valued. This was a great 1st visit for Chico. After his other vet retired, it was time to find a new vet. Since Tracy was a receptionist at his old clinic, we decided to come here so he could see a familiar face. Tracy greeted us promptly curbside, brought him in and the the doctor came out to review recommendations. All was done very professional and you can tell they all love and care for pets. We have found our new vet! It is also next to Wagon Train which is a great pet store and grooming shop. Great visit up the hill to get all our pet care needs! read more
