I have been bringing my dog here for years and normally have a great experience, even driving 40 minutes because I trusted the care. Unfortunately, today was a very different experience that left me devastated. My dog was scheduled for two shots and a routine exam, which I expected to be around $115. During the exam, the doctor mentioned she would need a couple of teeth pulled. I agreed, despite the financial strain, because I didn't want her to be in pain. I signed an estimate for $900 or less, depending on how many teeth needed removal. When I left her for the procedure, I was later called and told she was recovering well. I asked how many teeth had been pulled, and to my shock, they told me thirteen. No one had called during the procedure to inform me of the additional extractions, discuss options, or even confirm I wanted to proceed. I was simply presented with the outcome and a bill of $1,000. I am heartbroken--my dog, who is like family to me, is now left with only four teeth and is in pain. What hurts the most is that this could have been handled with better communication. Even auto repair shops call customers if they find more issues than expected. I wish I had been given that same respect and choice when it came to my pet's health. This lack of communication and consideration for both my dog and my financial situation has completely broken my trust. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

Update my review: I have been here countless times this past month. One of my fur babies unfortunately passed away, adopted a new cat, and my other cat had inflamed pancreas. Dr Shayda worked a 12 hr shift so many animals were coming in sick.., I was her last patient at 9pm!!! She closes at 6pm but so many animals getting ultrasounds & she stayed until all the patients were taken care of. Even though she had a VERY long day, she still sat and talked to me about my kitty health treatment plan. As soon as my sick kitty went home, he was so much better thank goodness for DR S!!! Love this vet! My 8 year old boxer is the light of my life so I always make sure that he always has the best care if needed that doesn't break the bank. I found this vet because I live down the street and would always see it driving by. There's a vet right next door to me but their reviews weren't great and they were pricey so I decided to try East Chapman. I'm so glad I did. My dog suffers from allergies and the occasional ear infection. This place is clean, modern, staff is so nice and attentive and I never have to wait long! The veterinarian you can tell loves her job and has a passion for it. My dog has had also surgery here for little mass removals and they took such good care of him. We love East Chapman Vet Center! We became a retirement home of a local celebrity, Sunny, from the flowerdale nursery (yes, the friendly white cat). Sunny has been a long time patient of ECV and we moved our other kitty and 2 dogs to them after meeting them for our first visit with Sunny. Everyone, I mean everyone, from the front office staff to the vet techs to Dr Shayda to covering Drs in her absence, are lovely, helpful, kind, and compassionate. No one likes to go to the vet, except maybe Sunny. He is pampered and loved on the moment we arrive. He and our other animals are treated by everyone as if they are their own. I trust them to be honest, fair and guide me in making difficult decisions. In the last few months Sunny has needed to be seen quite a few times for his kidneys, and although it can be nerve wracking to spend so much time at the vet, every. single. time. I know he's getting the best care. I see some reviews mentioning long wait times, the only time I experienced this was when I needed to walk in without an appointment (and I wasn't the only worried pet parent having a stressful health situation at the same time/day) imagine having a full day of appointments but ALSO allowing walk-ins between appointments so that as a pet parent you and your lil baby get some relief the same day... I would assume there would be a wait, I know that's not ideal but that's pretty normal in an urgent non appointment situation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. From the first visit when my service dog (Australian Labradoodle) was very sick, during the height of COVID. Her own vet would not see her, was panicked. I called East Chapman Vet who listened to her symptoms and said; immediately bring her in. When we picked her up, it was the first time ever that she was calm. This has been the vet for my current dog for four years. She has received all of her vaccinations there. I have been taking my dog to be groomed there as well for many years. In January, they told me that they could not groom her without an exam first. The exam is an additional $58. There is nothing wrong with my dog and they have all of her vaccination records. I don't mind getting her an exam but they are saying it's policy that it has to be done before they can groom her. I'm not sure if it's the front office staff or if the problem is with the vet and is trickling down to them. When I call, I'm put on hold for extensive amounts of time or hung up on. When I ask to speak with someone else, I'm told there's no one available. I asked to have the doctor call me back but she has not. I don't know if they even gave her the message. I guess they do not value their long standing clients. Update: When calling in or sending a message via email, the front office staff are actually keeping me from speaking with the Vet who owns the practice. read more

Well my wife and I really feel so much gratitude for East Chapman Veterinary Center we only made their acquaintance last Friday when we had to finally put our beloved Cookie a Labrador to sleep. It was with very heavy hearts to make a decision to end her life! Dr Snyder and her staff were extraordinary in helping us with this difficult decision, we could never have imagined the understanding, compassion, and empathy that they had! I'll give full credit where it's due: Dr. Shayda saved our elderly cat's life, full stop, when he was absolutely on death's door. That's the outlier. The rest of my family's experiences with this clinic - especially the front desk - have been awful. The waiting rooms are so overbooked that once your pet has been taken back, you're asked to wait out by the front desk. If there's a diagnosis or anything to discuss, that's done at the front desk, with the phones ringing and other people and pets in the waiting room. Not really a great place to ask questions if you have them. I brought my kitten in to be neutered and I was told that he had an undescended testicle and that the procedure would be a little different. No further details provided. I never got a phone call that he was ready to be picked up, and I finally called at almost 4 pm only to be told "oh haha he's been ready for hours." I got there and THEY PUT STAPLES IN MY BABY'S TUMMY WITHOUT TELLING ME. NOT STITCHES. STAPLES. When I picked him up they didn't even tell me that! I learned they were there when I carried him around the next morning. We had other, lower stakes incidents as well, mostly with our dogs, but I'll hold a grudge about those staples until the day I die. read more

I am deeply disappointed and disheartened by what my cat and I endured at this clinic. What was supposed to be a place of care and compassion was a weeks-long horror show. Right from the start, I could tell my cat's suffering was being needlessly extended. Rather than focusing on actual treatment or comfort, it seemed the clinic cared more about milking out every conceivable insurance claim. Each visit brought additional tests, procedures, and expenses with minimal actual improvement in the health of my cat. It became painfully obvious that we were being taken advantage of. In the end, after all the money and emotional strain, we had no recourse but euthanasia a decision that should have been taken earlier, if her health was the real issue. I wouldn't subject anyone to this. I would recommend that pet owners question hard and listen to their instincts. Not all clinics care about your pet as much as they claim. If there were an option for a 0 star review I would definitely do that because I want to prevent others from being deceived by Dr. Shayda A. and the staff. I could go on and on explaining what we all went through and what my cat went through but it would be a never ending story so I will leave it at this. read more

I have truly never received such amazing care/service from a vets office. Everyone I have come in contact with - all of the front desk, doctors and nurses truly have you and your pets best interest. I wish I could remember the doctors name but she and the nurse (Brandy) took such good care of me and my cat - this includes sitting on the floor with me and explaining the situation and what my options were and assuring I truly understood. My cat is officially a senior and her age is starting to reflect in her body so I was visibly worried/upset and they were all so patient with me as I came to head with the decisions I had to make. I recently took my dog with me on a trip to SLO and he got SUPER sick to his stomach. So much so I rushed home to get him to an ER here on a Sunday. They weren't open so I took him somewhere in Yorba Linda which diagnosed him accurately and hydrated him but sent us home with the wrong meds (though I didn't know it yet). Over the next two days he got worse so of course I was super worried. I called East Chapman (his normal vet) and explained what happened Sunday and how he was getting worse. They got the ER report from the place I took him to and told me the ER forgot to send me home with an antibiotic. The ER also told me to keep his diet bland and give him baby food (which also causes diarrhea; didn't know that either...never thought to give him anything but dog food before :/) So without any counteracting to a probiotic they gave him, my little guy was getting the runs so badly for three days. It's so heartbreaking to watch them suffer. East Chapman took us in without an appointment near their closing time and treated him right away. He is finally better now and I'm so grateful to them for their help. Sucks that I had to pay for two emergency visits but my point is at least East Chapman got to the bottom of it quickly and got it right read more

I have been taking our dogs to the East Chapman hospital since they opened and have been so happy with their care and customer service. We have one elderly dog who seems to always need a test or procedure these days, and we have been pleasantly surprised that we always seem to get fit in, even when there would normally be a long wait at other hospitals (the demand is high and the availability is short these days!). We recently needed to get an ultrasound and though we didn't have an appointment, we hear that a board certified specialist was coming to the clinic that day to perform ultrasounds --and the staff was kind enough to let us wait on "standby" instead of missing out on testing that day due to not having an actual appointment. Though we had a bit of wait, the stress we would have experienced having to wait weeks to have our boy seen was totally worth it -- and it turned out there was nothing terminal discovered. We were able to make a sound plan for next steps for him right away! I highly recommend this animal hospital to everyone - great veterinarian, great staff! read more
