Kind of hard to give a DMV 5 stars just simply because it's a DMV. But as far as DMV's go this is pretty great. Went here with my dad on Wednesday February 28th 2025 to renew a license for a trailer, actually trying to fix a mistake DMV made while doing the paperwork. (Basically had the wrong year on the registration paperwork.) Anyways, we got there, line was long and it looked like that it didn't matter if one made an appointment or not. Anyways, after waiting in line for some time, we finally got greeted at a window, and at that point all the empty windows were calling out the next customer because it was getting to closing time. Anyways, we finally got to the window, we explained our situation. Now I got it done at the Mobile DMV in Monroe the registration, so maybe Goshen had our paperwork, and could easily fix it. I could tell that the person helping us at this location was confused and unsure how to do it. However when I tried to fix it at Monroe DMV, they said it was a pretty easy fix and just requires editing the files. Here, even the supervisor came over and was like in sorry, we can't do that here, here is a number to call to help you. Oh and side note- the one working the check in window was the supervisor. So that may have explained why the check in line was long, as she needed to be there to help her employees as well. Very nice deneour though for both the supervisor and the person who helped us. We then renewed another trailers registration while we were there. We then went on our merry way. My dad called the number and had to write a letter to Albany, and they at least helped by telling us what to do. read more

This place is a shit hole! During the pandemic all the options for a DMV visit seem to be limited in my immediate area to either Newburgh or Middletown for appointments, I didn't even realize I could simply walk-in but good luck getting out of here pronto walking in without an appointment. This place took me back to the 80s to those nostalgic days when a DMV visit in NYC meant you HAD to arrive 2 hours before the place even opened so it meant camping out at 7AM just to ensure you were out by lunch time. If you arrived after lunch you'd be wasting your time cause you'd likely not get serviced same day. Despite having a 9:30am appointment I didn't get out until 11am. Yea that might not seem too bad but when I consider that I've made appointments at the DMV in Manhattan that services probably triple the volume of this place and I've been in/out of a NYC DMV office within 30 mins. What made this visit bizarre is that the place opens at 9am and by 10am literally 3 window clerks put on their jackets and went on a break! I thought, "WTF this place just opened and already 60% of the staff is taking a break!" That left just one window clerk helping people for about half-hour and the place was getting packed. If that first break was an hour into their shift who knows how many of those they all take during the day at the same time! Sometimes we just have no choice but to visit in person and if that's you then make an appointment because God only knows how long you'll wait without one if it took me almost 2hrs with an appointment. Terrible service, there is no type of urgency with anyone. I watched a girl at the window stand up and walk around actively avoiding the window for an hour and a half. Got in and out of here waaayyy quicker than I expected! I arrived about 9:45am on a Wednesday. There were only about 15 other people there, including the two ahead of me in the ticket line. The lady at the ticket window was a bit snarky, but other than that, everything was fine. I got my ticket, waited about 5 minutes to be called, and handed in the forms I found online and had already filled out. The lady at the second window looked over my paper work, had me do the vision test and asked if I wanted a new picture for my license (YES PLEASE!!!) I walked out with my interim license a couple minutes later. Super easy :) read more

I'm glad I left work early for my 1:30pm appointment to be waiting outside until 4. What's the point of making an appointment over a month out if we still have to wait. Utterly disorganized. Information on the site does not match requirements in person. Rent a cops inside don't know anything and just tell people to wait. This is possibly the worst DMV on the planet. Always understaffed, so you have to wait entirely too long. There are 8 windows and only 2 people working them. Are you kidding me? Also, when you get up to the window the clerks are rude and seem like they'd much rather be somewhere else. Not to mention, all of the trash that are loud, obnoxious and sick most of the time. Some people have lives and need to get back to work? I have a four month old that's home waiting for me so her father can go to work. Been waiting for about 2 hours and it's not even busy. Went in today March 26, 2021 to renew my hazardous material endorsement. I had an appointment. The security guards up front or very polite to us and treated us nicely. Everybody had masks and follow the rules for our own safety. Once I went to the counter the lady helping me was very courteous. I waited maybe 20 minutes and my number was called. This other lady was very nice as well. Very polite and professional. Sometimes the DMV can get a bad rap. But today everybody was very nice. I recommend the DMV in Middletown. This place sucks, The website says they're open and they don't answer the freaking phone motor vehicles typical government installation sucks, they don't even deserve one star. Well! I had to go back to this DMV again for another registration renewal, thinking in-and-out as the last time! I parked on the street as usual, jogged up to the front door (scary out of breath 'Asthma', then a Ventolin puff),and thought there was a commotion at the entrance! NOOOO! The first Information line you have to wait at, was backed up allllllll the way into the the entrance, with people with waiting just to go through that first process before the looooong wait in the seats! I've been waiting almost 4 hours for my son to get his learner's permit two windows available with only one person working half the people taking the test can't speak English and these are the same people we let on our roads that'll probably responsible for most of the accidents because the test may be given in their language but the road signs and directions are still in English am I the only one that sees a problem with this regardless way overcrowded employees don't seem to move very quickly certainly not in the best interest of the people spending their money read more

Never in my life would I think I would give the dmv 4 stars but it really wasn't bad. Plenty of parking spots, busy inside but not insane, in and out in 30 mins. Woman who took care of me was very nice, took 4 pictures until one came out good, patient with me since I had my 3yr old with me. My first impression is parking is scarce. The facility itself is quite small and not practicle in accommodating the amount of people that were there, many were standing due to lack of seating and the wait was becoming unbearable. The decor is old and outdated, workers sit behind a barred window they looked so caged in , it was almost sad. Old tube TV hangs above..with a channel you can't even see. You get on line get some forms, get off the line fill out the forms, then back on line for a ticket to be called. Your typical wait is about 1hour 15min. Which seems to be pretty standard for a busy day. The people there were very nice so that within itself made the wait worth the while. read more

2 minute wait. Friendly staff. This place is A-ok. Check your attitude at the door and maybe you'll have a pleasant experience as well. It helps to bring a pen that works so you're not scrambling to find one like I was. Also print out the forms you need and fill them out before hand if possible. I was only sad to know that NY residents can not have a DL and Non-DL ID. Oh well I suppose. The parking lot is in the middle of a down town looking area. slowest place . no where to park. I had to park on the scary street, you cant have water to drink. im a diabetic i needed to have water the dust and dry air there. I waited over an hour and a half. if you go in bathroom you lose place in line thats a given but when you wait forever it happens. I stood in line then they said go to another line. my goodness. their not nice appreciable people and they must hate their jobs with the attitude. the kids omg that ppl bring to the place no where to sit down. Oh dear, what a completely opposite experience we have had the last 2 times that we have been here. We come on a regular basis since we volunteer in helping to register a fleet of trailers that are used in volunteer construction work. I say that so that it is understood that we make frequent visits to this office, so we are in a position to speak from experience. I am so disappointed to have to update this review negatively, because I truly like and enjoy some of the women who work here. However, it seems those women in my previous review have been replaced with new, inexperienced staff. It has always been our policy to make sure that we are courteous, patient and empathetic to the clerks - if they are treated with respect and professionalism, they will respond in the same manner. Sadly, this was not the case for our last 2 visits. The first week of January 2018, we stood on our feet (no seats available) for 4+ hours, were finally called to the window, and were then informed that the computers were down - so they could "look over" our paperwork, but would not be processing it. Why not inform the entire room of their inability? We were told because they "never know if the computers are going to come back up in the next few minutes". Returned the following week to re-attempt our transactions, this time to a 2.5 hour wait followed by completely rude, uncalled-for treatment once we reached the window. A stand-in supervisor was on duty and she made several disrespectful remarks about our religion, including calling us "you people" repeatedly. Pardon me? Unacceptable! She also told us to follow procedures that were completely opposite of what previous employees/supervisors had instructed us. We know that patience and understanding is a must when visiting any DMV, however it is our preference to not be the subject of brusque discrimination. read more
