Short Version: Dave communicates very well, my service was completed as promised, the final cost was the price estimated. The work was exceptionally high quality and I highly recommend this business. Longer Version: I am very particular about my 1957 Chevy and who I allow to work on the car. Based on overwhelmingly positive local reviews from other hotrod guys I took my Belair to Dave at OC transmission to have a complete rebuild on the the Tremac T-56 six speed transmission. When I arrived there were several other classic cars being worked on in addition to modern vehicles, which made me feel comfortable about leaving my classic at OC Transmission. I took my Nissan Altima to the local beep beep transmission shop, because I thought my tranny was going out. The guy looked at it and said $3,200 for a replacement transmission and I'd be good to go. I decided to get a second look. Took it to Orange County Transmission on Logan Rd in Costa Mesa. Dave drove it with me in the car. Slow, a little faster, then darted to the left and right a couple times and we went back to the shop. He looked at me and said take this to Mesa Automotive in Costa Mesa and ask them to look at the wheel bearings. I said Thank You and I'm here now waiting while they replace my left rear wheel bearing for $400 while I wait (an hour or two). Both places OC Transmission & Mesa Center Automotive deserve 5 STARS. I took my 1986 Ford F-250 to OCT because I had a bad bearing in the trans., and the clutch had multiple problems. I was on the verge of a catastrophic trans. failure, the clutch slipped, had shudder in low gears and reverse, and got a real workout holding in the clutch pedal. I gave Dave a specific set of instructions as to what I wanted done on the truck since I've owned it since new, and know every inch the truck. Dave gave me an estimate and how many days it would take to complete the job. Job was completed as promised for the estimated cost. Dave voiced a concern about clutch pedal travel and whether or not I needed a new flywheel despite the fact that I gave him specific instructions just to resurface the flywheel if it was within tolerances. Dave said he would eat the labor cost of replacing the flywheel if I wasn't satisfied with the results of the repairs. WHAT ???? That spoke volumes to me about how Dave was concerned with customer satisfaction and the quality of work that comes out of the shop. Went to pick up my truck and Dave told me to take it for a test drive to see how it felt before we settled up. So I took the truck around the block, and WOW, HOLY CRAP, I almost pissed myself because I was so happy. My truck now shifts and drives literally like when it was new. Daves concerns about the flywheel were unwarranted, everything worked flawlessly. So Dave seems to be somewhat of a perfectionist also, when it comes to the quality of work they do. When we settled up I actually thought the price to be low, but Dave told me it was actually a very competitive price. I couldn't get over how well my truck was running, so I took it for a long drive just to go for a ride, and I can't remember the last time I did that. I actually like driving my truck again !!! So in a nutshell, great people to work with, beyond incredibly fair, very reasonable pricing, and outstanding quality of work. Hats off and a great big Thank You Very, Very Much, to Dave and the men of Orange County Transmissions !!!! A year ago I was thinking of putting her out of her misery, and sending her to the wrecker. Today, I'm lining up a cosmetic makeover so Lucille looks as good as she runs and drives.
