Costa Mesa Transmission was unable to diagnose or repair my vehicle and consistently demonstrated poor communication throughout the process. I paid $333 for two hours of labor for a diagnosis and a relearn procedure that I was told would resolve the issue. At no point was I contacted to authorize any additional work beyond the diagnosis. I was later informed that the vehicle was fixed and paid the invoice, hoping the issue had been resolved. Unfortunately, the problem remained. When I returned, I received conflicting explanations. First, I was told there were no detectable issues. Later, I was told the transmission needed to be replaced. I was also repeatedly told that the repair I suspected would not fix the problem. Even so, I asked them to provide a quote for that repair since a transmission replacement was not financially practical. I was told they would call me with a quote and credit one hour of labor, but I never received a call. After nearly a month of poor communication and an unrepaired vehicle, I decided to purchase the part and perform the repair myself. More than 100 miles later, the vehicle is operating normally. The repair that I was repeatedly told would not solve the issue ended up resolving it completely. I was looking for a place to install a Miller Cat Shield on my Prius. The Millercat shield website lists Costa Mesa Transmission as an authorized installer. I called a different authorized installer and they wanted 50% more than what I paid here. It's a family run business and everyone is friendly. Instead of shooing me away from their garage or asking me to wait in the office, the tech invited me to watch and didn't have a problem with it at all. He even made sure that when he raised my car that my roof racks would not be damaged. The service was quick and affordable but most importantly, honest. I was told a price on the phone, I came somewhat expecting something to "go wrong" and needing to pay more but that didn't happen. What I love about the shop is the minute you walk in you realize these guys are real car enthusiasts. I took my Prius to install cat shield there. It took about 2 hours, after i left noticed some rattle underneath the car, i called Arturo about it, he explained to me that the shield i bought did not come with rivets that could put the shield a little away from the catalytic converter and thus minimize contact on vibration, however he asked me to bring the car back and check what they could do to lower rattling. They had to work around by slightly bending the shield. After I drove off i notice no more rattle!! Happy with result and hope this can deter the thieves!! I also got a better warranty from them than from the other places for a lower price. The axles on my car were also broken and they added the parts with no extra labor charge and a huge discount on the axles, because when I called around, I couldn't find anyone even close to that price they quoted me on those axle parts. And they warrantied those as well along with the transmission. They finished the job in less than a week. They were more honest than I've ever seen.
