I can't say enough good things about Ed and his team at Transmission Specialist…read more My Ford F-150 suddenly went into limp mode and was stuck in third gear, along with a few other issues. Since my truck was out of warranty, I wasn't sure where to turn. I reached out through Yelp and heard back from Ed almost immediately. He had a good idea of what might be wrong and invited me to bring the truck in for an assessment. After inspecting it, he identified damage (caused by rats) to the transmission wiring harness, which had unfortunately caused internal damage. He walked me through everything clearly and provided a very reasonable estimate for a full rebuild. Throughout the entire process, Ed was easy to communicate with, always professional, and genuinely helpful with his advice. What really stood out was how he went above and beyond after the repair. I was told this type damage might be covered under my comprehensive auto insurance. Ed then took the time to work directly with my insurance company--providing detailed documentation and expert insight. Because of his effort and experience, the claim was approved and the repair ended up being fully covered. That level of service is rare these days. I truly appreciate Ed's honesty, professionalism, and follow-through. He did exactly what he said he would do and then some. I wouldn't hesitate to come back or recommend him to anyone in need of transmission work.

Last year, the transmission on my 2008 RAV4 was rebuilt by Transmission Specialists after tow truck…read moredamage, going through insurance. A year later it still hard-shifts going downhill. I brought it back twice and both times I was told everything was fine. During the rebuild, they replaced (and charged additionally me for) replacing the transmission mounts, but a few days after I picked up my car, my motor mounts broke and the engine shifted while I was at a red light. I brought it back immediately and, after a test drive, I was told everything was fine. A separate shop found the entire engine was tilted, and I paid out of pocket several hundred dollars for their diagnosis and installation of replacement motor mounts - mounts I was told should have been replaced along with the others. I brought it back several months later because my car was hard shifting whenever I went downhill and the alternator continued making a high pitched noise. After a test drive on the flat roads around Santa Ana with Ed, was told that it shifted like butter. He advised me to warm up the car before driving, which has not helped at all. I was also promised that my alternator would be exchanged for the price of parts from O'Reilly and that it would be about a $150. I was ultimately charged me $429 for the third party alternator (definitely not a Denso) that makes high pitched whirring sounds when I press the gas pedal. Other minor issues: scratched my window tint and took 6 weeks to complete the work, fixing the alternator last and costing me 3 extra days of rental fees my insurance wouldn't cover. I ended up paying $1345 out of pocket to their shop and insurance covered $4000. Also, I incurred an additional several hundred dollars to the other shop to fix the motor mounts and for the extra days of rental. Ed is really nice and communication was not an issue. Overall, though, I did not have a great experience and I'm reminded of that daily when I drive my car over the hill to get to work, as the car will inevitably jolt as it shifts gears going downhill. It doesn't leave me a good feeling that the transmission repair will last. For this reason, I can't recommend this shop for transmission or general repair work.

I was extremely stressed because dealing with vehicle problems was the last thing I wanted on my mind while trying to enjoy my vacation. I spent some time on Yelp reading reviews for several transmission shops before deciding to call Transmission Masters. One of the reasons I chose them was because they've been in business for more than 48 years and had consistently great reviews. I also like reading the one-star reviews because, let's be honest, you really can't please everyone. I just wanted to find an honest and trustworthy shop. I called and spoke with Ron right before closing time. He took the time to listen to everything I was experiencing, explained what he thought the issue could be, and told me to bring the van in the next morning. Their shop opens at 8:00 AM, but when I arrived around 7:45 AM, they were already there working on vehicles. When I walked in, Ron remembered our conversation from the previous day, which immediately made me feel comfortable. He scanned my van but didn't notice anything unusual. He reset my ECM and another setting, and thankfully that solved the problem. What impressed me the most was that Ron didn't charge me a dime for his time or help, even though I genuinely wanted to give him something for helping me out. I drove all the way from Disneyland back home to Northern California without a single issue afterward. Ron, if you happen to read Yelp reviews, I truly want to say THANK YOU for your time, honesty, and knowledge. You helped turn a very stressful situation into a positive experience, and I sincerely appreciate it.

Luis Transmission Saved Us Thousands $$$$$$$$…read more If you have a transmission problem, you must take your vehicle to Luis Transmission in Huntington Beach. We bought a 2020 domestic car last year with ~80,000 miles on it. About 10,000 miles later, it began driving strangely. Intermittent pedal response and occasional hard shifting. A tank of "good gas" didn't help. The problems seemed to get worse the longer the car ran. Of course, we were past the used car dealer warranty period. My husband took it to a reputable local mechanic in HB, who said it needed a new transmission for about $7,000. Yikes. Wasn't ready for that so he took it to a second local shop (a friend's recommendation); they came to the same conclusion. Then he took it to the dealer to get an official look or maybe to see if this problem was recall worthy. Their assessment: needs a new transmission, $10,000. OMG. The car is only worth about $10,000. What should we do? Time for Yelp which is where I told my husband we should have went in the first place! Luis Transmission gets phenomenal ratings. Luis's initial assessment: Rebuild the transmission for ~$4300. Still more money than what we wanted to put into the "new to us" car but seemed like our only choice. So we signed the quote and handed over the keys. This is where it gets good. A few days later Luis texted us to give him a call. We braced for the worst. Luis explained he had removed the transmission, and it wasn't as bad as thought. He could replace some worn out parts and some likely culprits for less than his original quote. Music to our ears!!! We've got one kid in college; this is the news we needed. Luis is the real deal. He fixed the problem, was honest about what the vehicle actually needed, and saved us thousands of dollars. If you need transmission work, we absolutely recommend Luis Transmission in Huntington Beach.

I told Adrian Ciejka specifically what I needed done and informed him I had already replaced the filler tube O-ring, installed a Moroso transmission pan gasket, and replaced the speedometer gear and O-ring myself. The fluid visible on the inspection cover was clearly seepage from the accumulator O-ring -- exactly what I told him before he even looked at it. Instead of listening, he claimed the filler tube was also leaking and then told me the transmission would need to be dropped and the crossmember removed just to replace the accumulator O-ring. This is factually incorrect -- the accumulator on a TH350 transmission is accessible from the outside without dropping the transmission or removing the crossmember. Either he doesn't know basic transmission repair on a common GM unit, or he was deliberately misleading me to justify a full reseal at $400+. When I declined and asked to pick up my car, he charged me $180 just to remove an inspection cover -- a 10 minute job with no upfront disclosure of the diagnostic fee and no discussion of cost before proceeding. To make it worse, I dropped the car off with the transmission fluid low and picked it up overfilled by half a quart. An overfilled transmission leaks more visibly -- a well known trick used by dishonest shops to justify expensive repairs the customer doesn't need. I paid $60 in Lyft fees to get there and back, $180 for nothing, and left with my car unrepaired and the fluid level tampered with. Classic car owners beware. This shop does not listen to the customer, fabricates unnecessary repairs, and will upsell you on work you don't need. Find someone honest who will do the job you ask for. This is not that shop.
