Can't say enough about Leon's. I took my 2005 Highlander there when the transmission kept slipping and then re-engaging. Leon's was recommended by the highly-trusted owner at Irvine Auto. When Brent heard the description his first thought was probably a computer problem, not a transmission issue. He was right! He not only diagnosed it correctly, he worked with Toyota to get an OEM computer. Toyota allocates these sparingly (to keep 3rd parties from price-gouging) and he actually had to write them to obtain one. He installed it and did a full transmission service - all at a great price I got the car back and its as good as new! To begin my review I was recommended to Leons Transmission by a longtime friend/mechanic of mine. I had a Valve body issue on my car and needed the Valve body replaced. The job seemingly went well but upon recieving my vehicle back within 10 miles smoke came pouring out the hood and I had to immedietly pull over and shut the car off. With all of this happening on a weekend I had no choice but to tow the car into the dealership. The dealership shows me that the transmission dip stick delete ports valve was left wide open thus allowing transmission fluid to pour out. Aswell as a rounded out transmission overfill plug. This costed me anothher $600 on top of the $3000 I initially paid. If I didnt catch it sooner repairs add up to roughly $10,000. Once I confronted Brent with the information he was apologetic and tried to right his wrongs offering to send the bill to corporate to reimburse me for the dealerships work. Since then Ive tried numerous times to get ahold of Ken Rusol to discuss this situation further as I feel paying $1000 for negligent labor that led to failure of my vehicle and loss of wages from missing work is absurd. ( You dont send under cooked food back at a restaurant and still pay for the entire meal. ) I have left voicemails and continued to call Ken. It has been weeks now and they have just sent the check for the $600 and refuse to speak to me whatsoever. Brent is a nice guy. When it comes to corporate they seem to lack any knowledge on how to treat a customer and think ghosting is the correct solution. So now I have to resort to reviews just to seemigly get any response out of these guys. Please avoid this company!!! read more

I took my car to Leons after still experiencing symptoms after I asked the mechanic I normally use, who is very popular and always busy in the CDM area, stated that the fluid level is good and not too dirty. It turned out that the level was 1 1/2 qts low and old. A very fairly priced basic service solved the problem. Leons also showed me other engine problems that need to be addressed soon! Unfortunately, they just work on transmissions. If you are experiencing any problems with your transmission, I highly recommend you go to Leons. They are honest and fairly priced. read more

They kept my car for way longer than they were suppose to because people " were out" . When i got my car back , my outlet to plug in my phone to carplay was completely broken so i couldn't use my phone on my screen anymore. They didn't properly finish the job by securing in the ENTIRE underneath part of my car so i was driving on the freeway and i could hear loud loud dragging with sparks flying up! The last thing they did was return my car to me with a very loud and obnoxious squeaking noise when I even press the break at all, but especially when I brake. Over the last two weeks i have stopped by twice and called one time but i guess the person im supposed to speak with is not available. Why is no one there! The shop is small and i dont see many workers there but why is there no front desk person to answer the phones and or answer questions, this is ridiculous. This morning I stopped by to check the transmission in my '84 Monte Carlo SS. Brent helped me right away and lifted the car up. I found out that my mechanic had been dishonest and told me it was a TH250 to get more business. I had been feeling confused for a couple of weeks because I thought I had bought a matching number car, and I had sent a 200-4r to get rebuilt to put on. Something didn't feel right. Came in a little over a week ago with a transmission code for the transmission range switch circuit A. Guy there said it was the computer inside the transmission and fixing it would need rebuilding the transmission. I took it to a place down the road Costa Mesa Transmission and replaced the switch and fixed a wire that was shorted to the switch and fixed the code and fixed the problems I was having with my vehicles performance. I bet if I had a nicer vehicle or something that screamed I'm willing to shell out a couple grand they probably had been more willing to do their job. read more

Horrendous customer service. Called in get an estimate gave them my make and model. Appointment was set. I arrived at the appointment and they stated they had to order my part. And to reschedule next week. Later, an older gentleman came out and told me they have no clue how to get my park and told me to go back to the dealer. This place is a joke. We are new fans! My husband's car had some transmission sounds and when we took it to the Lexus dealer it was $8600 and needed to be replaced. Brett at Leon's said the sound was something to be worked with and that the transmission still had a lot of miles left it. It was a $200 fix. Brent was very informative and conscious of the cost of the repair. He couldn't confirm what I thought the issue was and gave me an option to do the repair and hope that clears the issue or wait until it's obvious so to not do additional repairs. My 2017 Explorer transmission suddenly went south when my wife was driving it. On my way to rescue her, I called Brent. He entertained all my questions and what-ifs, so I knew what to check once I got there. As suspected, I determined it was a transmission problem, so I had it towed to Leon's. The problem ended up being an electrical connection, but it was very difficult to track down, but he got it done. Whereas the dealership would have insisted on replacing the entire wiring harness for thousands of dollars, Brent wired up a bypass that works great, and looks like a factory connection, but for alot less $. Transmission fluid service was good; however, for some reason the owner/manager would not honor Yelp!'s check-in offer of $25 off any service over $100 (my invoice was $206). Owner/manager pled ignorance regarding the check-in discount, even after being shown the legitimacy of the voucher. Happy with better shifting car; not happy with not receiving legitimate discount - however small it was. Will not return with my business. read more

First of all, let me say that I am happy with the completed automatic transmission rebuild on my 1979 VW Bus. However there were several complications that lead from their initial estimate of a week, into it taking a month to rebuild. The transmission was rebuilt and then had issues shifting (as per my mechanic, who partners with this shop), this process was repeated two times. Again, I understand old vehicles can be finicky. But the reason for the two star review is that the shop managed to mangle my roof rack by raising it into the ceiling of the shop with their lift. Upon discovery of this (no one mentioned to me and I had to find it myself while I was driving it home), I returned to the shop and they said they would take care of it. Two days later they had bent the rack back into shape and I returned it pick it up. I do sincerely appreciate the work they've done and that they took ownership of their mistake with my roof rack. But that rack had never been damaged prior to taking it into the shop and I do have reservations about its structural integrity now that it has been bent so far out of shape and then bent back. read more

I've had two transmissions rebuilt by the Costa Mesa shop and fluid changes on these and on another vehicle. I was happy with the general service, and the service manager, Brent, seems to be honest. The first transmission, a T400 in an older Suburban, is fine, though it still has very low mileage on the rebuild. The second transmission, a Ford 4R100 in an F350 7.3 diesel, was a complete disappointment. It was ok for 25,000 miles, then reverse went out. It had a 2year/ 24,000 mile warrantee. Due to Covid, I hadn't been driving the truck much, so the 2 years had past. That, plus a thousand miles past warrantee equaled no help from Leon's. Not even an offer. I'm putting another transmission in the truck from a builder who specializes in this transmission. It's expensive, but I wasted $3,000 at Leon's. That was expensive, too. If you use a vehicle for towing, or other heavy duty use, I wouldn't waste the time or money at Leon's. Go somewhere that will do the necessary upgrades that, even though I asked about them, Leon's wouldn't do. I'll add that the original transmission in the truck was working fine, but it had almost 200,000 miles on it. I had it overhauled so it would be reliable. read more

i sent out a yelp request for someone to take a look at my transmission. Brent was professional, kind advised of the need to inspect due to a sealed transmission. He recommended to have fluid added if needed . have a fair price for the service. As he proceeded to inspect it was determined that a fluid change out would not suffice and transmission would need a rebuild. Brent was honest and open the entire time about what the process would be and what i could expect. he offered me a quote on the transmission which seemed fair as i've had to have a transition. replaced before. At this time i do not have the funds ti have the car fixed so i had to deny the service. Brent was great the whole time and if i do end up getting the transmission fixed i will be coming back here even though it's a bit out of the way from me. if you are having transitions issue give these guys a call. read more
