I can't say enough good things about Ed and his team at Transmission Specialist. My Ford F-150 suddenly went into limp mode and was stuck in third gear, along with a few other issues. Since my truck was out of warranty, I wasn't sure where to turn. I reached out through Yelp and heard back from Ed almost immediately. He had a good idea of what might be wrong and invited me to bring the truck in for an assessment. After inspecting it, he identified damage (caused by rats) to the transmission wiring harness, which had unfortunately caused internal damage. He walked me through everything clearly and provided a very reasonable estimate for a full rebuild. Throughout the entire process, Ed was easy to communicate with, always professional, and genuinely helpful with his advice. What really stood out was how he went above and beyond after the repair. I was told this type damage might be covered under my comprehensive auto insurance. Ed then took the time to work directly with my insurance company--providing detailed documentation and expert insight. Because of his effort and experience, the claim was approved and the repair ended up being fully covered. That level of service is rare these days. Other companies would request to speak with me or wouldn't quote a figure unless I provided my plate number and VIN. There's only one automatic transmission for a Scion Xa therefore it was ridiculous that they kept demanding the numbers or to speak with me. Bi towed my Scion with a UHaul wheel lift trailer and Steve was super helpful with unloading the Scion. Due to my miscommunication the reconditioned transmission was delivered by a week. I reached out to Transmission Specialist for a second opinion after being quoted more than I expected for a transmission repair by our usual general mechanic shop. Ed called me and we had a detailed conversation on the process and parts involved. He explained that he uses upgraded parts instead of the factory gm parts that would likely fail again at some point. His pricing was much better as well. We moved forward and throughout the process he gave me updates and sent lots of photos. We had our Tahoe back in one week with a rebuilt and upgraded transmission as well as a new radiator, as metal shavings had gotten into the cooling system. I sold this truck 3.5 years ago and the transmission that was rebuild by Ed is still shifting nicely. In January 2024, I ran into the person I sold my Silverado to and he confirmed that it's still the same healthy transmission. That is 9 years since rebuild on a 2001 Silverado 4x4 with 35" tires and 4:56 gear. Now, I'm having Ed look at another transmission for my 2006 F250 6.0. I have a Lexus GX 460 2011 with 194k miles on it. My kids grew up with this car. I have been taking good care of this car in general except for the transmission. I read somewhere that my transmission was sealed for life and didn't need a service which then I learned the hard way that this is not really true. Few months ago I detected a leak on both the transmission and the transfer case. I went to the dealer and they told me that I needed to replace the transmission and transfer case . The quote was for $11k. My cousin recommended me a transmission shop in Santa Ana where he rebuilt his Tundra's transmission. I stopped by there and they gave a quote to fix the leak but they told me they didn't have time to fix it . I kept following up until I gave up and started looking for other options. I was lucky to run across Transmission Specialist. From the initial inspection and through all the repair process I felt in good hands. Ed (the owner) kept updating me on the progress . Unfortunately due to design technicalities my transfer case was not possible to get fixed so Ed had to find a used one to replace the old one. Although it was a very expensive repair I ended up paying much less than the dealer's quote.
