He was attentive, thoughtful, and kept checking on her throughout her visit, which meant so much to our family. When I asked if he could speak with my daughter over the phone to explain my grandma's test results, he didn't hesitate. He patiently went over everything, answered all of her questions, and made sure she understood the situation completely. That level of kindness, patience, and professionalism is rare. The nurses were friendly, caring, and did their best. My biggest issue was with the case managers. My father was admitted to the hospital due to shortness of breath, pneumonia, and cancer. He was placed in the older, run-down side of the hospital. During the summer, the room was extremely hot because the AC was not working, and they provided a fan to try to help. The room itself was also very small and uncomfortable. Again, I want to emphasize that we had no issues with the nurses. They were kind and helpful. The problem was the case management. It felt like the main priority was simply getting my father discharged as quickly as possible rather than making sure he had what he needed to safely go home. He was discharged without several necessary medical supplies and we were told they would be delivered afterward. Unfortunately, the vendor could not provide one of the supplies because the prescription they received from the case manager did not include the required model number. The vendor needed an updated prescription before they could send it. I called the case managers repeatedly, leaving multiple messages and calling every day for over a week. No one returned my calls. We eventually had to contact my father's doctors ourselves to try to resolve the issue. This should not have been necessary, especially for a patient dealing with cancer and recovering from pneumonia and breathing problems. It is extremely frustrating and disappointing to feel like the healthcare system no longer puts patients first. Discharge planning should be about making sure patients and their families have the proper support, medications, and medical equipment--not simply getting them out the door. UCI, please do better. Please consider replacing or retraining case managers who are unwilling to communicate with patients and families and who do not follow through on critical discharge needs. Because of this experience, I would not recommend this hospital, primarily because of the case management and lack of follow-up.

It's to charge more $ and get away with it.

I felt powerless watching the parents dealing with their reality and those that I would never be seen again. Seeing children, my age, was so scary. I thought I wasn't going to survive. Again, I felt so powerless not being able to help those who were going through so much more than myself. I went back again, I believe in 74, to have a second surgery and I felt no fear. My first surgery went so well! After the anesthesia wore off I became very ill. Couldn't stop throwing up. The doctor helping me said I was a lucky little girl. They had some difficulty removing the pins from my hip and had to drill them out. Said they were prepping me for a transfusion which I ended up not needing. I recovered quickly from that one too. I guess what I am saying is the staff did well with me. Strange because they probably aren't here any longer and my experience with CHOC was great. When I called to find out what happened, I was placed on hold for a longer time, then transferred between multiple departments. Despite all that, no one was able to resolve the issue or even explain what went wrong with the appointment. This kind of disorganization is unacceptable, especially for a healthcare provider. Patients' time matters, and missed telehealth appointments with no follow-up or accountability are a serious problem. I'd strongly encourage CHOC Fit Club to review their scheduling and communication processes so other patients don't have to go through this.

But the on call treating Dr. John Ziomek was rude and condescending. My imaging came back abnormal, but the Dr. was super dismissive. The Dr. was on the fence about admitting me to the hospital or releasing me with my symptoms left unresolved. He chose the latter. It's an ER room - you would think they could have done more for a paying patient. I was told I needed to see my primary doctor. Dr. Ziomeks parting words to me were "I can't help you, if you can even be helped at all". Who says that to a patient before releasing them to leave? After a quick morphine shot which did nothing to relieve my pain I was bandaged up and sent on my way. Avoid this place like a plague if you can.

The staff checked in on my relative regularly and expressed care. I also got to check out their GIFT SHOP on site which was pretty cool and very reasonably priced. They have a lot of nice things in there. They sell kimonos, cute mint and pill boxes, hand towels with cute designs, glass and plastic hummingbird decorations, and much more. After a really disappointing ER visit here last week, I came back to Hoag after being sick for over…read morea week with the same illness. My previous visit ended with a misdiagnosis that didn't match my 26+ year documented history of Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, and because the actual cause wasn't treated, things got significantly worse until I had no choice but to return. This time, the experience was night and day. I was seen by an actual team of doctors who took the time to review my history. Dr. P Juang and Primary Nurse Reed, correctly diagnosed me with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, my actual, long-documented condition, and started the right treatment protocol. I finally got the medications that actually work for my condition, and the relief was immediate compared to the week I'd just been through. They were compassionate, actually listened to how my body was feeling and made sure that even when I left the hospital, I left feeling comfortable. I especially want to shout out my primary nurse, Reed. He was attentive, compassionate, and on top of everything the entire visit. When you're that sick, having a nurse who genuinely cares makes an enormous difference, and Reed went above and beyond. THIS is the standard of care I've known Hoag for over the years. NOT the experience I had last week. Even though last weeks experience ended up with me in pain for over a week and another trip back here, I was to thank you Dr. Juang, Primary Nurse Reed, and the whole team on Friday for listening, reading my chart, and treating the real problem.

Even when I had questions and concerns, they jumped on it and were hands on. The ER is not an easy place to be in, and the staff were proactive and he got started on dialysis. He was then admitted into the ICU and treated for acute kidney injury, among other severe issues. Then he was taken into the medical surgical floor. The follow up communications from the nurses, Dr Mostafa, case managers, social worker Desiree, Abdullah in the medicaid office and other staff have been so informative and appreciated and helpful. 14 days later he's recovered remarkably and I'm hoping he'll remain in a stable condition. Thank you to Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center for keeping him in good hands to get him stabilized and discharged.

I had blood pressure of 224/94, and I called 911 because of chest pain and feeling very tired. I have a history of cardiac issues and had already had a heart attack 20 years ago. I was concerned that I might be having another heart attack, so I went to Garden Grove medical center. I never saw a doctor once admitted to my room! Plenty of "staff" but no doctor! They ran some tests but never told me that they do not have access to the equipment needed to perform cardiac catheterization to look at possible damage to my heart or even say for sure if I had already had a heart attack. However, they knew my troponin was through the roof!! They let me lay in that hospital for 3 days without a way to help me. While there, I shared a room with another patient who required dialysis. They gave that patient dialysis bedside, and they had a tube on the floor that was letting blood waste go down the drain into the shower we both shared. This patient next to me was terribly ill and was coughing non-stop and then on the 3rd day suddenly a paper appeared on the wall, and my family was now required to wear a gown, mask and gloves even though this was never mentioned before and I asked to be moved but they refused! I still don't know what he had but obviously it was very contagious and could have complicated my condition even further. My fiancé came and did basically a jail break because I was leaving AMA- Against medical advice. They would not let me leave! It took 3 hours for this staff member to tell us that she could not find a place with a bed for me anywhere near by and that I needed to stay there. We fought back and said no way! I signed their documents to leave AMA, and we were able to go to my brother's house and call 911 from there. I was taken to Whittier PIH and there they have an outstanding cardiac care unit. It was determined within an hour of my arrival at Whittier PIH that I had one main artery in my heart that was 99% blocked and two others that were at 50%. Garden Grove Medical Center couldn't tell me that after 3 days!!!! If I would have laid in that bed for any more time and I would have lost my life. Thankfully we got out of there and to a place where I could get the care I needed. It scares me for myself and for others that might experience something similar to this. These people are only too happy to bill our insurance and take our money, but they don't want to care for us! I still can't believe they made us wait 3 hours when we wanted to leave to see if they could locate a bed somewhere else which didn't happen! A waste of time and it could have been the end of my life!!!!! Please don't go to this hospital!! You will regret it!

We were…read moreadmitted Monday night, August 17, and welcomed our son, James, on Wednesday, August 19 at 4:08 a.m. From the moment we arrived through my induction, labor and delivery, James's NICU care, postpartum, and the care that followed, the compassion, attentiveness, professionalism, and kindness we experienced were truly incredible. There were so many people who cared for us that I unfortunately wasn't able to get everyone's name. I want those people to know they have not been forgotten. The doctors, nurses, midwives, NICU team, lactation consultants, Health Scholars, volunteers, and staff all contributed to making one of the most important and vulnerable experiences of our lives feel safe and supported. I especially want to recognize the doctor who started my induction. Although I unfortunately did not get their name, I am incredibly grateful for the care and guidance we received as we began a process that was completely new to us. Diana and Sandra were our nurses in the beginning and were wonderful as we settled in and began the journey of welcoming our baby. During delivery, Amy, our midwife, and Aida, our nurse, helped us welcome James into the world. We are incredibly grateful for their care, encouragement, and support during such an emotional and unforgettable moment. When James was born, he needed immediate medical attention, and an entire team stepped in to care for him. I wish I had gotten every person's name because they deserve to be recognized. Watching the doctors and nurses respond so quickly, calmly, and attentively was incredibly reassuring. They made sure our baby received everything he needed while keeping us supported as brand-new parents. I especially want to recognize the NICU doctor who cared for James, along with the entire NICU team. Having your newborn need additional care immediately after birth is incredibly emotional, and knowing he was surrounded by such capable and compassionate people gave us tremendous comfort. We are especially grateful to Thuy and Doris, James's NICU nurses. They were incredibly attentive and gave us so much reassurance when we needed it most. We will always remember the care they gave our little boy and the kindness they showed us as his parents. Our postpartum experience continued that same level of care. Tiffany, Tiawen, Jaimini, and Lacey, our final postpartum nurse, were all wonderful and helped us through those important first days as a new family. Rose, our lactation consultant, was also an important source of help and support. There were other nurses and lactation consultants whose names I didn't get, but whose kindness and guidance made a lasting impact. I also want to thank the doctor who performed James's circumcision. I unfortunately didn't get the doctor's name, but I want their care to be recognized as part of our wonderful experience. The Health Scholars and volunteers, along with staff working behind the scenes, also deserve recognition. There were so many acts of kindness--people checking on us, answering questions, offering reassurance, helping us learn how to care for our new baby, and making us feel surrounded by people who genuinely cared. What made Kaiser Anaheim so special wasn't just one person or one moment. It was the entire team and the consistency of the care we received. From the doctor who began my induction to our labor and delivery team, the people who immediately cared for James, his NICU doctor and nurses, our postpartum nurses and lactation consultants, the doctor who performed his circumcision, and everyone else we encountered, we continually felt our family was in caring and capable hands. We never felt like just another patient, another baby, or another room. We felt cared for as a family. To Diana, Sandra, Aida, Amy, Thuy, Doris, Tiffany, Tiawen, Jaimini, Lacey, Rose, the doctors whose names I wish I had gotten, and every other incredible person who cared for our family: thank you. My recent experience was phenomenal…read more BRITTANI MARIE FILEK PA was the best surgeon I could have asked for! She was warm, empathetic and very knowledgeable. She made me feel comfortable, even though I was nervous. Dr. Filek also checked in with me through the whole process. The numbing process was painful, but she paused and offered breaks when I needed it. She also was very careful with the incisions. She used the smaller scalpel and did small cuts. I got 6 incisions total. They are healing up great. Dr. Filek was truly amazing. Wonderful doctor all around!
