Beacon Hospice was not there at all in the last days of my father's illness. We could not get a…read morenurse or doctor from Beacon to come into the nursing home where my father was to assess his pain. Because we had agreed to palliative care for my father, the nurses at the nursing home could not do anything for pain management without going through Beacon Hospice. The nurses and staff at Beacon were unresponsive to the nursing homes phone calls. When the nursing home finally got someone to call back, the night before my father passed, I took the phone call. I explained to the nurse from Beacon that my father was in pain and I wanted to have someone come to help and administer medication that could help comfort him. The nurse from Beacon had screaming kids in the background and barely gave me the time of day. I was told someone would come the next day. No one came. My father passed that next evening and suffered in the days leading up to his passing. I would caution anyone who agrees to using Beacon Hospice. Especially if your loved one is in a Nursing Home. Once you agree to using them then all administration and approval of testing and medications goes through them instead of directly from the nursing home. All this does is create another layer that you have to go through to get care for your loved one.

I'd like to thank Beacon Hospice for being so supportive in dealing with the loss of my father…read more They we're compassionate and supportive during the process.. They explained every step and answered any questions we had.. Most importantly they made sure my dad would be as comfortable as possible. Today, I received a card in the mail from them signed by multiple people who work there.. Losing my father has hit my heart in ways I'm not sure I can come back from but it's comforting to know that my family and I have met some great people along the way If you or someone you know has a loved one in need of hospice care I strongly recommend Beacon.

Extremely Disappointing Experience - Would Strongly Advise Against Using Bayada…read more After major surgery, my husband's surgeon arranged for 10 days of at-home nursing care through Bayada, which included daily injections. What followed was a frustrating and unacceptable experience from start to finish. Day 1: Nurse arrived over two hours late. She was visibly unfit and struggled to walk 10' (from the driveway to the front door) requiring her to rest on the sofa before walking another 10' to the bedroom, where she required another rest break (by sitting on the bed). (Note, all one level, no stairs involved.) She spent the vast majority of the brief visit complaining about her own physical discomfort and left saying, "I don't know if I can come back." Days 2-4: No nurse showed up. No phone call. No communication. No resolution when we reached out to the office. We were left with no choice but to administer the injections ourselves--completely defeating the purpose of professional care. Day 5: A different nurse arrived 2.5 hours late, took vitals and a blood sample, then quickly left. It was the only semblance of proper care we received. Days 6-10: Once again, no one came. No calls. No follow-up. Total silence from Bayada. Then, 2 months later, we received a surprise bill for $850 from a lab located five states away. Our insurance declined the claim because the lab was out-of-network. After weeks of back-and-forth and numerous calls to both Bayada and the lab, we discovered the Day 5 nurse had held onto the blood sample while on vacation and eventually dropped it off at the out-of-network lab. It took nearly a year to resolve, but thankfully, we were not held responsible for the charge. But the ordeal added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. Bottom line: Our experience with Bayada was marked by unprofessionalism, lack of reliability, and poor communication. If you're seeking competent, consistent home health care--look elsewhere. ETA: This review should be under PROVIDENCE, RI

Begging for appointments was a common occurrence within this organization. My mother Ruth T. had…read morebacterial conjunctivitis for months. It took two months before she was given medication for it. It took two years to get an eye doctor appointment within THEIR CLINIC. I asked Ruth's nurse about Ruth going to a specialist for her eyes? All she kept repeating was I know,I know,I know. My mom went on January 8th with one of her eyes half way closed. The vendor doctor said Ruth needed a specialist and she wasn't able to prescribe my mom new glasses. My mom never got a chance to see better, hear better, or chew her food properly because of this unorganized program. When my mother was on Blue Cross and Medicare she did not have these ludicrous problems. There is so much more I could say about Pace but I'm saving it for my lawyer. Participants and caregivers are not allowed to make health care appointments for themselves. It's a racket. I Ruth C. Tavares Jr. pleaded for appointments for my mom Ruth. She was on the Pace Program for two years without a dentist appointment. My mom was extremely hard of hearing and again it took two years for her just to be on their vendor's appointment schedule. The social worker for Pace wrote the reason it took so long for Ruth to have a dentist appointment OUT OF THEIR CLINIC: " We were not sure if Ruth could transfer out of her wheelchair to the chair the dentist has in their office." That was the one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read!! My mom tried going to the Pace day program, however the ride from Cranston to Riverside on the Pace bus before the Washington Bridge needed repairs took two hours to get there, and two hours to get home. Once she got there, because she was on 02 she had to be seated nearest to the electrical outlets so she was pretty much ostracized the whole 3 hours while she was there. Recently a retired Dr. who works part time for Pace, called me one day and said there is an opening today for your mother to go to her oncologist and you need to bring her. I said I'm sorry we can't bring her. She started screaming at me. My mom was in bed not feeling well and it was well documented that we could no longer provide transportation for Ruth that she had to go on the Pace bus and I would accompany her. This Dr. started yelling at me what do you mean!!! This never happens to get a same day appointment. I handed the phone to my sister and brother in law and this Dr. started screaming at them. Then she wanted to speak to my mother. And we said no you will not. The appointment that Pace made was to the wrong Oncologist. This Dr. wanted me to rush my 82 year old wheelchair bound mom out of bed get her into a wheelchair rush her into the car which was already documented that she was no longer able to do and drive her to the wrong Dr who was located in Lincoln!! I called Ruth's nurse who said I told everyone that Ruth needs a wheelchair van or bus no stretcher because of her anxiety, and that you no longer could transport her because it's no longer safe. Her nurse then said let me call them back to say no not today and why. At this time I didn't know they scheduled mom with the wrong oncologist. My son was with my mom; when I got another call from Dr. Carol. I was grocery shopping. I answer and this Dr. Immediately started screaming at me as to why I wouldn't let my mother go to the doctor that I scheduled and why wouldn't I allow her to go by stretcher. She said YOU YOUR FAMILY SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT.
