Quality of golf course Not what it used to be. Ownership and management have let things slide particularly tee boxes and landing areas. Management has obviously taught their golf course staff to treat paying customers like second class folk. Fortunately someone has somehow retained welcoming grill staff and on course service is excellent albeit expensive. Potentially one of the best tracks in the mitten state. They keep raising prices but don't care if you come or go. read more

Not too pricey! Practice facility, putting green and place for chipping in great shape! Fairways and greens in very good shape. Greens were fast! Only disappointing issue was their use of programming the electronic messaging of their onboard GPS. It began to rain during the round and they called everyone back to the Club House. When we and our other foursome returned to the course, many holes were cart path only, others were 90* which of course slows play! The onboard GPS advised us of the status and monitored the cart with their "shutdown function" engaged. The technology can be helpful but can also be overused and not used correctly. See Photo. The Orchards remains a top club in SE Michigan. Since my review a few years ago, they have gotten new carts with top notch GPS. The surrounding areas has been built up a little more in the last 7 years, but the OB is so far from the course that you never feel cramped in at some courses. The majority of new housing development is on the left side of #15, and you're aimed away from it. I've never ONCE had a bad experience with the staff, up and down, from the GM/Pro to bag drop attendant. One thing lacking at so many other courses is proper training of the beverage cart girl, but it seems the Orchards does more than just handing someone the keys and letting them go. e.g. knowing to stopping at a tee box rather than green helps everybody with pace and safety, and knowing when to hit the gas or not so as not to interrupt players is just added touch to the whole experience. Some may complain that they are "pushed", but look, nobody wants to be out there 5 hours. If you can't keep pace for their 4:30 expected time, perhaps look elsewhere, we both will be happier for it. Note the GPS "influenced" carts will prevent you from driving within 50 yards or so of the green. This might sound like a hassle, but it means the conditioning around the greens is excellent. You don't have to worry about matted down lies in the rough. Just follow the signs and you'll be fine. read more

Enjoyed a quick round of golf yesterday even though it snowed during our round. The course was in good condition considering and we will be happy to visit another time later this summer to experience the course under more ideal weather and conditions. read more

What a great layout and a challenging course. This is probably the best public course in the Detroit area. The staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. Nice driving range and putting greens. The food in the clubhouse is pretty decent too as I had the buffalo chicken wrap and fries. Back to the course. Awesome tough undulating greens, well manicured fairways, reasonable rough, just stay out of the heather. I'd play here anytime. read more

The Orchards is the best golf course I have played in Metro Detroit. I book on golfnow.com and get deals for $58 for 18. The course is in great shape, the staff is friendly, and the food is great. What more could you ask for in a course? They have excellent range and green practice areas. When you book online with golfnow, you get a bag of range balls included. The course is challenging, but still playable for all skill levels. The rate of play is always good. The drinks are reasonable and the food is actually really good. One of the best burgers I have ever had at a golf course. This place is definitely a must play in Metro Detroit. read more

What a waste of $50!!! Rudest staff ever! I called to make sure they weren't busy then they put me behind a group that had never golfed before. I tried to start on the other 9 to get around then but the asshole starter chased after me and started screaming saying I was slowing everyone else down when I was the only person on the course playing at pace. I tried to get a refund but they refused and the guy only laughed at me when I told him how bad their service was. From the start our foursome was told we had 16 minutes per hole. We were playing 9 and had a twosome in front of us and a twosome behind us. We finished one minute late. Ranger's have attitudes and come around constantly to remind you of your time. Don't need that when trying to play a relaxing round. Thought about eating lunch after but didn't want a time limit on that too! Plenty of other courses in the area...go somewhere else! read more

Great course. Best in SE Michigan in my opinion. Their service level lacks accommodation, understanding and empathy but it does not lack arrogance. Played yesterday afternoon and the front nine was cart path only due to rain. Course was wet, I get it. Asked when checking in if one cart in our group could go 90 degrees because one guy in group is 72 and has an ailment with doctors orders to limit walking. Shop staff said find out what cart number he is in and they will turn on the controls in pro shop. Found out the cart number came back in and different shop guy said no chance. Said he had to protect golf course and laughed and smirked when I mentioned he had a handicap sticker and doctors orders. I asked about the course accommodating the ADA and he said they didn't have to comply. On the turn this same foursome in our group was told to skip 10 and go straight to 11 because they were 17 minutes behind time. They complied and when they got to 11 tee box the group ahead of them was on the tee box and another in the fairway. This group proceeded to wait on every shot for the next 8 holes. When my group (which was playing behind our group) got to 11 there were no other groups on #14, #15 or 18 tee. The back nine was not crowded at all. The 1st tee had nobody on it and the parking lot was 1/2 empty. To me there was no reason to single out the group with the 72 year old in it after you just denied his doctors orders the whole front nine. The Orchards is great golf but the service is full of arrogance. It's been that way since they opened in the early 1990's. In that period of time there has been the same level of arrogance at the helm. You are an upscale PUBLIC golf course. Quit treating people like you are Oakland Hills and all your players are scum. read more

Awesome local course! Immaculately cared for. Quite challenging but not overwhelmingly so. I can't say anything bad about the course itself. A few geezer rangers who poke around in everyone's business but they are alright. Been there three years running for Shelby Township Firefighter's golf outing event of 150 or so. Decent food but at dinner they ran out of steaks half way thru - two years in a row!- so everyone had to wait. And they really need better chairs. It's hard to relax when you are sliding out of a plastic folding funnel. Since I give more weight to the course itself this place gets five stars (or maybe just a hair under). Friendly and good looking wait staff too! read more

Range pass is a rip off. $350 and they try to limit you to two warmup bags when you try to use the pass. One starter told me they were instructed not to give out more. Hardly enough to practice. read more

Not a fun Golf Outing! Everything is "Rush-Rush"! Very expensive to play, and you do not get a chance to enjoy the game. Ranger followed us, and pushed us, even though no one was pushing us on the tees, and we were waiting for foursome in front of us!!!! At one point, the ranger sat in front of us watching as we made our shots for 6 holes in a row. He asked if we would go to #1 hole, after we left the 15th, to speed up play. This was just after we waited for foursome in front 2 holes. Place really sucks!!!!!! Should be private for a few spoiled professionals! Not for your average golfer. Nice course, but starter completely ruined our day. Played today, started at 8:30am and was wet, rainy, and cold. Needless to say, the course was not busy. Entire course was cart path only due to the rain. Was rushed to start on the first hole. By hole 3 we were told to speed up play by the starter because we were a few minutes behind pace even though we had to walk from the cart path on every shot. Next group behind us wasn't even putting on Hole 2 yet. Get to hole 7 and the starter was 100 yards back from us watching us play while we were in the fairway. He proceeded to follow us up to the green and watched as we finished out the hole. Meanwhile, nobody on the tee box behind us yet. Teeing off at 8, he confronts us again and blames us for holding up play. Again, next group behind us was nowhere to be seen. Never have I been treated so poorly by a starter and I would never go back to that course again because of him alone. Felt completely rushed from the 8th hole on. Ended up finishing almost a full 2 holes ahead of the group behind us. They were teeing off on 17 as we were putting out on 18. But obviously, we were the problem with our "slow" play. read more
