I am completely addicted to this place. I started a new job a few months back and a new coworker recommended this place. I come here at least once a week and I haven't had a dish that is anything less than awesome. My favorites are the hot &a sour soup, fresh rolls with chicken, Pad Thai, drunken noodles, fried rice, chicken curry and the apple salad. The staff here is very friendly and on their game. Don't worry about getting back to work on time, they seat you quickly, take your order when you're ready and get your food out very fast. The portion size for the larb was impressive however I did not taste the traditional spices/ flavors I am use to (mint, basil, lime juice). The green curry sauce had the consistency of water the vegetables were over cooked and the dish had very little chicken. Bland. I don't get it. How can a cook or chef taste this "brown sauce" and think it tastes good? I ordered the seafood combo which is supposed to have brown sauce not watery tan sauce. The combo is supposed to come with scallops, squid and crab meat. There were no scallops and the crab was krab. You know, the formed fish with a painted red stripe that tastes nothing like crab. The squid was rubber. The shrimp was over-cooked also, not as badly as the squid but a little dry and chewy. Also seemed like they were trying to rid themselves of bamboo shoots. There's a lot of Thai places around town, this one has never dissapointed me. I've come weekly for probably a good year plus since I work just down the street. As a Troy resident my whole life, I've tried the array of Metro Detroit Thai places. The included soup is Hot & Sour (Chicken, bamboo shoots mushroom & water chestnuts). I really enjoy the 'match stick' cut bamboo shoots in it. I usually mix in some of the hot oil from the table as I like more spice. Their pad Thai is quiet good in my opinion, but in general that's not my fav dish at Thai places. They have great tofu, and super tender tasty pork. I've sampled the drunken noodle, and duck as well. My # one dish I love, and have converted people on is the Pepper Garlic. It's # C14 on the menu. The dish is sauteed with mellow garlic sauce, green onions, mushrooms, onions, carrots, and bamboo strips. The sauce has a ton of flavor, and I can barely describe it. My co-workers have ordered a whole slew of other dishes. I can't imagine rating them all, let alone providing a good 'critical' explanation. What I will say is that the place is clean, the food is absolutely consistent, and always flavorful. I actually enjoy knowing if I want the dish I love, it will come out just like I remember it. Second time I'm ordering curbside from here and I'll probably make it a weekly thing. Ordered two chicken dishes and two vegetarian dishes. The food was wonderfully flavored and fresh. Quantity was just right and the girl taking the order really went above and beyond to make sure she double checked that my vegetarian items didn't have fish sauce or oyster sauce (and even put up with me being late in my pickup). There wasn't that "Sense if do I seat myself or waiting feeling."....I was dining alone So the I'm new and lost feeling wasn't there. As with any Thai food restaurant I was greeted to the table with a fresh basket of shrimp chips. They are this airy puffy amazing crunchy Cheeto texture chips. I always order Thai Tea when I dine out Thai. And they usually over sweeten NY tea... Not here. Perfectly proportioned not to sweet iced Thai tea. Wow! The portions are HUGE. I MEAN HUGE! my....which I recommendations include the curry dishes... The #C9 my favorite... Curry chicken with a nice coconut milk broth with mini corn and broccoli.. Pea pods....AMAZING. I NEVER give a 4 star let alone a 5 star review because it's so difficult finding a restaurant that can deliver 5 stars on all 4 key points: taste, consistency, fair price point, and customer service. Taste: I've been to many Thai places around Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Lansing and this place has by far the BEST soups (highly recommend: Hot and Sour & Tom Yom). I purposefully dine in just to have a complimentary cup of their Hot & Sour soup. I've seen customers drive 45 minutes to this place just to pick up a quart of their Hot and Sour soup. Trust me their soups are a MUST TRY. My other favorite menu items are: Gang Gai Curry (*so good!), Crispy Rolls, Pad Thai (*better than Sy Thai's), and Royal Chicken. Consistency: I've dined here more than 15 times and every single visit I've had great food. Customer Service: I recommend coming at a non-busy time (avoid lunch rushes and 6PM dinner). The staff here are very friendly, attentive, and remember their regulars. The waitresses here all know my spice level and large appetite. This restaurant is the only place where I can eat as much as I want wearing whatever I want without fear of being judged. LOVE the staff here. read more

I get Thai food every single time I go home. Most of the time, I get it from Orchid Cafe (I'd get it each and every time if my mom lived a bit closer:() At most Thai restaurants, I get the choice of one thai curry, here I get many (at least 4??). My favorite by far is the Gang Gai, probably b/c it includes my favorite vegetables (green/red peppers, mushrooms, and bamboo shoots). The thai curry noodles are also amazing. I love the Pad See Ew here!! This is my favorite Thai dish and I've ordered it all over town at Thai restaurants in Rochester, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Novi! But Orchid Cafe knows how to make it just right. I order it with mild plus spice and its just hot enough for me. When dinning in you get their shrimp chips and hot and sour soup included with dinner. I love their chips, they always seem fresh and never stale like at some restaurants. I get takeout here mostly, but have dinned in on several occasions. I have only ordered take out from the Orchid Cafe. Dustin and I are slowly working our way through the menu. While picking up our food I have noticed that it might be nicer to eat in at the Orchid Cafe due to the warm inviting dinning room, as well as the chance to see the dishes presented on the plate as opposed to getting them in a box. The food is good, in a general way. The chicken satay is exactly what expected, the peanut sauce was good, and I always love cucumber salad. The carrot salad is the Thai version of that carrot salad your mom made for the church pot-luck. This version is not creamy and does not have raisins. It is simply shredded carrots seasoned with a light Thai lime vinaigrette with peanuts and garlic mixed in. Who knew carrots could be so tasty! The Gang-Karri (yellow curry) was good, in a very mediocre way. INot my favorite yellow curry ever. The orange chicken is safe, I did like that they use smaller pieces that that there wasn't more breading than chicken. Their orange sauce is a bit better than other places. Being adventurous the other night we ordered the Pla Lad Prik with Red Snapper. it was breaded fish (probably meant to be crispy, but the drive home in suace did not help) in a sauce with basil, carrot, pepper, oinion etc. This dish simply sounded better than it tasated. There have been a few dishes that I've ordered as take out, that would probably taste way better at the restaurant. One of these days I will drag Dustin out of the house, but in the mean time, a solid choice near home for when I'm too lazy to go grocery shopping and cook. P.S. Orchard Café is a great lunch location for the Troy, MI business district. You always see professionals devouring their amazing dishes.. Their Pad Thai medium is my favorite. NOTE - bring a friend and split it. Not because the prices are outrageous ($7-10 per entree), but because the portion size is huge! Plenty to go around.. Service is quick and YES, the employees can 100% understand you. I'm not saying that to be negative, but no language barrier at all is great. Complaints? Really only one thing.. Parking. I frequent this restaurant once a week for the last 4 years due to working close to it. This is my favorite Thai in town and trust me I've had them all. The Pad Thai Chicken and Royal Chicken are the absolute best. Medium is a perfect hot with great flavor for both. Honestly, the Royal Chicken is so good it may be my favorite dish EVER!!! I love Orchid Cafe. I live less than a mile away, so I always have to resist the urge to go here every day. The prices are a little high (especially at dinner), so I usually come during lunch. I usually order a noodle dish-- pad Thai, pad see ewe or drunken noodles. The imitation crabmeat is delicious, but for how cheap the meat is vs. how high the price is, they could put a few more pieces in. (Only like 5-6 in a dinner portion). I also looove their curry puffs and the spring rolls. Delicious! When I've dined in, the waitresses have been very friendly and quick, and my carry outs are always perfect. --update 8/22/18--- Dropping it down to four stars :( I've been in a few times since my first review and it's not been great. The food has been super oily. Whenever I get the pad see ewe or pad Thai, there is always a substantial puddle of oil left on the plate that didn't used to be there! Had the Pad Thai and the Pad Se Ew tonight. Both dishes we good, the pad see ew noodles were over done though, and very mushy. Usually when we order the 2, the pad thai has a lighter sauce, but here it was the opposite, the pad thai had a darker sauce than the see ew, but the pad thai was good. Also, the broccoli in the see ew was overcooked. It was pricey, $11.50 each, and carryout does not get you soup or chips. I also asked for white rice, and was charged. I think steamed rice should be included. I will try elsewhere in Troy next time. read more

This is the best thai food I have found in the Troy/Rochester Hills/Auburn Hills area. I haven't tried them all, but probably at least 10 restaurants so far. The dining room is clean and has a colorful aquarium. Dining in is a nice experience, food is quick and the meal comes with their delicious hot & sour soup, and the shrimp chips. Portions are plentiful, although I never have so much that I take a doggy bag. Carryout is equally delicious, though soup is not included. They recently changed to different carryout containers that are tins with clear plastic lids. If you order 3 or more dishes, make sure they don't stack them all together because these containers aren't sturdy enough to hold a lot of weight! read more

This has quickly become one of our favorite Thai places for take-out. I think the majority of their business if from take-outs. Usually when we go pick up our food, we don't see a lot of people dining in, but there are always a lot of take-out orders. For those of you that like meatless options, their tofu is pretty good. We usually like to get their Tom Yum soup, their spring rolls (Shrimp or tofu), and one of their noodle dishes.
