Surprisingly tasty food and excellent service. This is a genuine and authentic Thai restaurant. The ladies who served us were accommodating (peanut allergy) and went out of their way on a busy Sunday afternoon to explain details and comparisons on the menu. I liked the question "what Spicy level do you want ... (mild/medium/spicy)" for each dish. Decent sized portions and tasty food. The many and varied Pad Thai plates beckoned and we tried the omlette Pad Thai which was delicious and piping hot. Chicken Tom Yum soup and shrimp fried rice also were pleasurable. I was excited to try this place based on reviews and pictures. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice with cultural decor and a spacious layout. To start, we got moo krob (deep fried pork belly) which is the Thai version of Chinese siu yook. I have to say, I like siu yook so much more - it's a lot more flavorful having been marinated with five spice and served with delicious sweet hoisin sauce for dipping. The pork here was bland and the sauce (fish sauce based) was pretty one note. For my entree, I got rad na (rice noodles with gravy, Chinese broccoli, carrots, and choice of meat - I got pork) which was one of the best I've ever had! They used fresh rice noodles and sautéed it properly to give it the "wok hei" (wok-seared flavor). The gravy was deep and flavorful and the portion size was very good. If everything else was as good as my entree, I'd give this restaurant 5 stars. Unfortunately, my mom's Kao mun gai (steamed chicken with rice and "special sauce") was awful. She asked if the dish had any spice because she can't do spicy, and the server said no, so she decided she'd try it. The chicken was way overcooked and dry, with no flavor at all. The sauce, the only thing providing flavor and moisture, was spicy so that she couldn't eat it. We asked if there was any sauce she could get instead that wasn't spicy, and they said no, but they can give us a bottle of soy sauce. So my mom used some of that, and also took some of my rad na gravy. But because the chicken was so dry and bland, it was beyond saving. My dad got the Thai basil fried rice, mild spice. It was definitely hotter than other Thai restaurants' mild, and my dad said the spice overwhelmed the other flavors. I tried some of it and it was not bad, but nothing remarkable. They told us that traditionally, it's served with the rice on the side, which was strange to me because then it's not fried rice - it's sautéed meat and veggies with rice on the side. I am curious about how some of the other dishes taste here, but it's a shame that 3/4 of the things we ordered were mediocre to downright bad. I did take out and was shocked by how small the portions are with no rice or sides. An absolute rip-off. I ordered the A9. Moo Krab for $12. It came with around 6 teeny tiny pieces of pork and no rice or veggies. Many great things to say about Royal Oak when it comes to dining experience because the area has a very diverse selection of cuisine located in their downtown area, and one of the good choices we made for early dinner that Sunday was eating at Kacha Thai Market. The ambiance is very casual dressing and table setting. The dining staff were very approachable and informative. The food was served in a reasonable amount of time and no reservations needed at the times we visited the restaurant. We ordered the drunks noodle with plenty of medium size shrimp and garnish. The seafood TomYum was not our favorite but the noodles early on was delicious as well the pork skewers was seasoned to our liking. Wanted to order their Thai Iced Tea or Bubble Tea but I was already full from eating their savory dishes. We found parking in the lot right next to the RO public library. Believe there was also street parking located on the side and in front of the restaurant. It's very cute. Bathroom was a maze to get to and kind of creepy but sure out of their control. Menu is filled with great options. We ordered the Kow Pad, Fried Fish, papaya platter, and the Crying steak. It's new and recently opened. Still has the grand opening sign out front. It's really nice to see a new place on Main. Small counter at the front area, bottled drinks too. It has a garage door open concept. It's nice outside with the garage door open except for the obnoxious jerk crotch rocket riders showing off their loud bikes while still parked. The music is rhythmic and makes for a chilled background ambiance. We ordered the papaya salad, pad Thai street Thai with chicken, red curry with chicken, medium and a small Tom Yum soup with chicken. $46.49. You can tell the food is all fresh and nicely aromatic too. Their papaya salad comes garnished with dried shrimp, which was not listed on their menu. Had to ask for one without dried shrimp on it. They were happy to oblige and apologized about the dried shrimps. Their papaya salad is nice and crunchy and fresh. The dressing wasn't too bad, a bit sweeter here than I am used to though. The Pad thai is quite flavorful, we added some additional heat, since their hot wasn't hot enough for my husband. It was good for me though. The Tom Yum soup is hearty and yummy. Could have had a bit more lemon grass for me, still delicious. The red curry here is rather creamy and sweet, I prefer it less sweet, but it's still pretty good. The rice here is more sticky than most Thai places, I like it better here. The food and service overall was good. My husband said he would come back for more pad Thai. I would come back for their Tom Yum soup and papaya salad less the dried shrimps. We are looking forward to trying other items on their menu. read more

Lucky for us, we found metered street parking directly in front of the place. We had our kids with us (her 2 toddlers and my 7-yo). My child has many allergens so he had white rice and pork, which he absolutely devoured. The toddlers ate everything. I was surprised to discover the tastiest pad Thai dish I've had in at least a decade. My bubble tea hit the spot, and all of our appetizers plus my friend's green curry dish were delicious. Of course we had to get the mango sticky rice and it was a hit with all of us - we had 2 orders of it! What an exciting new addition to downtown Royal Oak! We stumbled upon Kacha while walking around and noticed that they had a Sunday buffet. I've only seen one other Thai buffet in my long professional foodie career and knew I had to give it a try! The fam and I perused the selections first before committing to the buffet. I was excited to see many classic dishes like pad Thai, pad seew, green and red curries, chicken satay, crying tiger beef, laab, egg rolls, and even desserts! Another welcome surprise was that freshly made papaya salad and Tom yum beef noodle soup was included in the price as well. Needless to say we were convinced to stay for the buffet. Now, to be truthful, I went in with tempered expectations, knowing that I would judge Kacha's buffet and takeout/dine-in experiences on completely different scales. There definitely are pluses and minuses to the buffet experience. I loved the wide selection of options in the buffet. You really got a well-rounded taste of all that Thai food has to offer! Noodle dishes, fried rice, and plenty of proteins including beef, chicken and shrimp dishes. The fresh papaya salad is a must; order one for the table unless you really want your own sizable bowl. The tom yum beef noodle that's included is massive as well! I'd order one per two people to share. The only thing I would work on is finding a way to keep the food warmer during service. The noodle dishes and especially the fried items suffered from being served colder than I'd like. The warmers just weren't doing their job. Other than that, I love this place! The food tasted very authentic, the staff was endlessly friendly and attentive, the decor is lively and enticing. And you know how they say you know a place is good when the locals of the ethnicity support the business? Kacha has that by way of customer and staff! This is the most authentic Thai I've had in metro Detroit, and best of all it is delicious and the dining atmosphere is very pleasant. Most telling is their boat noodle soup. I loved the Lao papaya salad but be forewarned if you are sensitive to smell and taste of things fishy. I love it but not everyone will enjoy it. I would suggest to owners to put in the menu what the up charge would be if we wanted to add shrimp. I knew there would be one but just so it's not a surprise to other guests. Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see what it would be for a small bowl. We also ordered the Thai Basil fried rice with chicken. I personally order this to see if the restaurant in general would be good or not. Silly, I know but fried rice is not as easy to make with the great taste of the hot wok in the rice. Preface: the 2/5 is mostly due to individual preference and not due to the quality of the food/restaurant. I really wanted to like this place - recently opened and good initial reviews - and had high expectations. When we entered there was loud thai music playing - rhythmic and vibrant but a little too loud for me. I saw relatively far away from it and wanted the volume lowered but that was not done. No big deal as it was a fun environment. The menu is well designed. Pictures for most food items. Stars for recommendations and two stars for ?double recommendation? 1 page front and back to keep it simple. I like that. After much debate we went for a small tom yum soup, green curry with vege and pork, and boat noodle soup. The tom yum came out fast, not too fancy (few mushrooms, scallions) but lived up to the essence of the soup - sour, slightly salty, umami. perfect for small. *** Now is where I started having issues. Both dishes, curry and noodle soup, were way. too. sweet. I even told the server I don't want sweet dishes and even then these dishes were recommended to me. No where on the menu does it mention "sweet" (e.g. curry for green curry or soup for boat noodle soup), NOR did the waitress say they were sweet, PLUS I said I don't want a sweet dish. The green curry, despite a chili pepper symbol, was slightly spicy but was OVERPOWERED by sweetness (I'm guessing sweetened coconut milk?) and the boat noodle soup I felt like I was drinking SUGAR beef broth. Yes, the flavor was there. The meat was tender. The quality of ingredients good. But the level of sweetness killed it for me. I brought this issue up for the boat noodle soup, had it remade, but it was STILL too sweet - did they do anything to it? I was then brought a condiment tray with spices, vinegar and told to add some to decrease/balance the sweetness. That did not work and made it taste off instead of decreasing the sweetness. I'm sure other dishes are 5/5 but the food and service did leave a bad taste in my mouth. I might give them another try with this experience in mind. When we got there it wasn't busy. The atmosphere was great with up lifting thai music. The staff is really helpful and nice!! We started off with the crab rangoon's and they were amazing!! usually when I get crab rangoon i'm disappointed with how little filling it is but these were PACKED!! and the sauce complimented really well. I was in between the pad thai or pad see ew but I ended up getting the pad see ew (N2) and wasn't disappointed at all!! the noodles are nice and chewy and have a great flavor. The veggies were also cooked to perfection. My bf got the Massaman curry (C3) and it was absolutely delicious. such a nice balance between sweet and savory and the veggies were amazing. Since we had a newborn, my wife and I had ordered carry out 7 times from here and never once disappointed. As Southeast Asian ourselves, the flavors and spices aroma in the dishes are absolutely spot on. We had tried majority of the Thai restaurants around the area, some of them are pretty good but it's just not at the same level of authenticity as Kacha. Yes, the price here might be a little on a higher end since it's in downtown Royal Oak, but you are guaranteed to get your food made from fresh and quality ingredients, dishes that are delicately prepared, portions that are value for your money, and satisfaction after your meal. Our favorite is their Pad Thai as every layer of the noodle is so well mixed with the right amount of sauce (not wet like some other places), and most importantly not too sweet! If you can, make sure you get the Pad Thai Shrimp that wrapped inside an omelette! Chicken rice and roast pork rice are amazing too.
