Curries (e.g. green curry) with a good amount of added sugar on top of coconut milk (ok if like your curries sweet). White rice. Most if not all dishes stir fried or deep fried. All have msg. Went back to Bangkok Bistro Thursday, took my sister for her first time. She's not a Thai food lover as I am but, she checked out the menu prior and approved. So, another delicious meal for me and glowing success with thumbs up from my sister. She ordered beef and broccoli over noodles with brown sauce mild , I had drunken noodles hot (spice lvl ;). I ordered fresh roll, 2 large chicken, shrimp and veggies we split. Wanted sauce that comes with to be spicier but, delicious! We initially received cup of hot sour soup that was a hit for us both. I'd rate this restaurant 3.5 stars, but for me it is closer to 3 stars than 4. My experience is based on a lunch takeout order during the week with a coworker. As an appetizer, I ordered the crab rangoon, which was really tasty. It wasn't too greasy and I could taste the crab meat inside. Water chestnuts also added more texture to the filling. They were not the typical shape - they were shaped like dumplings, which was interesting. At 6/$6, they are a decent value. For my entree, I ordered lad na. Unfortunately, they used dried noodles instead of fresh. That's not the end of the world by any means, but this dish tastes so much better with fresh noodles. The gravy was a little on the salty side, but pretty tasty. However, the dish was heavy on the garlic...I ended up picking a lot of it out. On the plus side, there was a pretty generous amount of broccoli and beef. The beef didn't taste super fresh, but also not old. Portion size was good and overall it was a good value for the money I paid. My friend enjoyed her pad Thai - I didn't try any, so I can't personally speak to how good it was. So overall not bad, but my favorite Thai in Troy is still Orchid Cafe on Square Lake Rd. read more

I came across this gem because my current Thai restaurant has gone downhill. They shrank the portions raised the prices, and the food became bland. Anyways I found this place. It is still pretty close to my house, so I decided to try it for the first time. I found this place on Yelp, it is in a strip mall in front of Walmarts, so my expectations were low going in. I don't know the lady that greeted me and waited on me. She was super friendly. I ordered the Pad Thai Chicken, which came out quickly for a Friday night. And I was also impressed with the amount of food I got. I usually do not need a to-go box. Well, let's face it, I am a fat @ss! Lol. The food was delicious, and this will be my new go-to Thai place. Also, another point that I need to point out is that they thanked me for my business. I don't need someone to tell me that, but it is nice to hear. Service was great, food, not so much. I had fresh rolls and Shrimp Pad Thai. On the plus side the rolls were huge, I just wish the shrimp wasn't quite so rare. I have nothing good to say about the Pad Thai. The noodles were cooked to mush, the taste was bland and there were only 5-6 shrimp in it (however, they were cooked). This place when it had a 2nd location near my house was my jam. Luan was the woman who got me hooked on Thai food. She has since moved back to Thailand, the 2nd location has closed, and her special recipes have suffered a bit. Not many Thai places make Chaing Rai Eggplant, and the ones who do, don't make it like Luan, so since I was close to the place I stopped by and ordered some. It wasn't like Luan's recipe at all, but we also got Pad See Ew which was spot on! I asked for medium + spice, and I'm confident I got mild in both dishes. I also ordered the fresh rolls, which used to be like a salad wrapped in rice wrappers with chicken, shrimp or tofu. Now they're full of noodles, not my favorite. All in all, good food, but my memories of the place are much fonder than the reality of it now. I won't hesitate to eat there again though. read more

Came here for lunch the other day and was seated quickly with a glass of water placed before sitting down. There wasn't a page dedicated to lunch specials but instead, there were two columns (one-lunch, second-dinner prices). I was hoping to see minched chicken spicy basil on the menu, but didn't see it and asked if it was available but it was not, so I decided to order the drunken noodles with chicken. After placing our order, they gave us a cup of hot and sour soup, which had a kick to it and a lot of black pepper. The coated my throat with the spice, so I really couldn't tell my noodles were spicy (I asked for medium spice). I was shocked when the plate of noodles arrived and wondered if they gave me the dinner portion. The noodles were piled on and a ton of it! My friend ordered the basil fried rice, which was also served on a huge plate and plenty of left overs for the next couple of days. Only downside to my dish was it was pretty oily and not enough spice for being medium level. Definitely will be back to try other dishes. Service was great-quick and friendly. read more

I was craving sushi but Edamame sushi wasn't open until after 5. I was starving and moved to the next good food idea. Thai. As I was parking in the shopping center. I was wondering if I should have gone to get carry out from Renee's and tried gf pizza instead. I decided to try this Bistro spot for carry out. The guy at the front asked if I had a carry out and I said I hadn't ordered yet. He pointed at the carry out menu. I grabbed it and put in an order for Tom Yum soup with tofu, Tom Kha with chicken and the usual 2 Pad Thai, one with steamed tofu medium and one with chicken and extra extra extra spicy. It's usually never spicy enough for my bf but I try to order it as hot as possible for him. The bill total for the 2 souls and the 2 Pad Thai dishes totaled to $33.71. Not on the cheap side of things. Let's see how this place stacks up for us as far as taste and quality ifThe guy at the front register was very short and curt and spoke very little to me. Hardly muttered a word except to say yes once and to say the piece of paper in front of me was my copy for my CC receipt. The Tom Yum is bland and tastes like a simple broth soup, doesn't even taste like typical Tom yum to me at all. My medium pad Thai with steamed tofu was barely spicy at all, maybe mild at most. I had to add a ton of Sriracha to make it taste a bit hotter and I was wishing I had asked for more dry chili.The 3x extra spicy chicken pad Thai was maybe a medium plus spice. My bf at least liked his Tom Kha soup. I have definitely had better but now I can say I have tried this place out now. read more

I had been craving thai. I wanted to eat some before grocery shopping. Welp... The location was easy to find with ample parking. I called for delivery on pickup. The guy was rude. He actually made a deep breath sigh when I asked for sweet and sour sauce for my spring roll. However, I figured maybe he had a long day and to try the place out. I get there. It's a cozy atmosphere NOTHING at all SPECIAL. The lady was sitting down. But she came over when she saw me. She was very quick and so stand offish. So I thought well I'm trying to eat not become friends so I'll survive. I asked for napkins and silverware and so put them down on table. So I'm still excited about the food. So I get ready for my spring roll. It was extremely bland. I definitely wasn't satisfied. Welp onto the chicken pad Thai. That was also bland and it was semi dry. So I'll never be back. Excellent Thai food. We had the fried rice with scallops. My wife had the chicken Pad Thai with a side of peanut sauce. We split a spring roll . Everything was absolutely delicious. We are coming back in a few days. Excellent, excellent service at a very reasonable price! First of all let me say there are no Men working the front desk. EVER and I eat there a lot. We went there again the week of 3/12/18 and the food is excellent in quality. To sum up my experience here, I have to say it's a great place to get Thai food. I ordered the Green Curry with Tofu and asked for medium spice, but when I got my dish, it was not on the medium level, it was HOT! I guess to the workers here, have a different idea of what is medium. It was so hot, it was hurting me afterwards. Almost felt like a punch in the gut which lasted throughout the day. But don't get me wrong, the food was great, it looked great, but with the amount of spicy hotness, I couldn't really taste the dish for what it was because the spicy level just masked the whole flavor of the dish. The quantity was generous, no doubt about that...the other items on the menu looked really good to. This place is located right across from 'Troy Motor Mall' so if you're in the area and have to wait a while for your car to be serviced (like I did) this is a great place to check out. I walked in and was greeted and seated right away. I checked out the outside menu so I knew what I wanted to order. Today I had the chicken curry noodle (bean sprouts, green onions, egg) mild plus spice and sweet and sour soup (complimentary for lunch). I went to wash my hands and by the time I got back I had my soup waiting for me (Nice)! The sweet and sour soup is very good, served hot but not scalding. It's lite on sweet and sufficient on heat. (No complaints). The chicken curry noodle is up next and arrives by the time I finish my soup. The dish is well sauced and the mild plus spice gives a good enough amount of heat without being overwhelming. I decided to get creative and added some chilled sweet and sour sauce to the noodles, it was a very good finish to the dish. All total the bill was $9.50 plus tip and well worth it. read more

We had planned on takeout sushi for my Mother's Day lunch...except we forgot that they were closed Sunday. Oops! We had to go to Walmart, so decided to try this place since it had good reviews...and we were NOT disappointed. We were the only people there at 3pm (one couple was just leaving as we entered) so we either missed the holiday lunch crowd or no one eats Thai on Mother's Day! The service was polite and efficient and the food was really good. We had the "crab rangoon" (I can't remember exactly what they were called, but they were basically rangoons) and they were tasty, though the sweet and sour dipping sauce that came with them was divine--I wanted to eat the rest of it with a spoon. The Hot & Sour soup was almost perfect--a nice consistency, lots of ingredients, but just too much salt (not soy)...but we still finished our bowls. I ordered my Pad Thai mild-to-medium and it came out just that way. Hubby ordered his Massaman (Mas-A-Mun) Curry Medium and he was sniffling midway through. This was probably the best Pad Thai I've had in the area--soft yet chewy noodles in a light sauce with perfectly cooked pork, and just the right amount of bean sprouts, crushed peanuts, and lime. The curry was less soup-like than we were used to seeing, but it was just as tasty. Portions were enough for us to bring home leftovers. Refills were abundant, dishes were cleared consistently, the waitress interacted with our son, take-out containers were filled quickly, and the check was taken care of in a snap. We ordered crab cheese appetizer, Satay chicken appetizer, Pad Thai and the market Duck dinner. Crab cheese appetizer could use more crab meat. The food was made freshly, but lacking seasoning over all. The service by the younger waitress was great, but the older lady was quite unpleasant. I left the place feeling unwelcomed. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants! My family has been coming here for many years. My favorite dish of all time, at any restaurant is the Chiang Rai Eggplant. It has the sort of flavor that transforms time and space. It's an out of body experience each and every time. I prefer to order this dish with mild spice. I have a high heat tolerance but find that the flavors of this dish are the purest without the added spice (and I've tried all levels of spiciness). When I have a child, I'll probably name him/her ChiangRai Eggplant (first and middle name). In addition to the eggplant, I love the hot and sour soup, shrimp chips, fresh spring rolls (get double sauce!) and the coconut ice cream for dessert. This place is a GEM! read more

This is an excellent place for pad Thai! Their pad thai has the best and most authentic flavor. I also enjoyed their tofu (ask for it steamed instead of fried- it's tastes amazing that way in the pad thai) because they use a high quality tofu, not like other places.
