I was so worried with the First Lady I set with, but Kathy took over && Kathy did so good with my nails. Orchid Nails is definitely hit or miss when you don't have a specific nail tech. I always have and will continue to get my nails done by Tommy. Tommy doesn't rush and he takes his time to give you the nail design you want just by showing him a picture. I've had a bad experience there before where my nail overlay was too thick and my point chipped like the next day but like I said, it's all in the WHO does your nails. All the nail techs are very friendly. I think they can all nails from what I've seen but I just enjoy getting my nails and pedicures done by Tommy! He's the only male nail technician and he's very accommodating to your schedule! read more

Did a walk in appt and was seated quickly. But the lack of attention to detail was poor. When I could finally see the design she had done I ask her to fix a few things. I understand it's harder with gel but it's was so haphazardly done. I didn't realize I would have to check that closely I usually trust the person who does a trade as that's what they do all day. To top it off I had all this top coat all over my finger beds that I'm trying to peel off. I would think twice returning here. I don't know if I'm just so Picky when it comes to my nails or really anything I pay for but I really was not satisfied. As you can see in the picture alone the application of the acrylic wasn't done right it's literally lifting because it's on my skin also. The designs weren't consistent, and even the jewel on my right thumb is completely displaced. I really only gave 3 stars because she was very nice lady, but the quality wasn't there. I've been to Orchid Nails about 2-3 times in the last year (during the pandemic), only for pedicures. I usually get the first available tech, and I appreciate how there is never a wait, the staff is friendly and I am able to get in & out. I have been pleased with the pedicures overall, nothing fancy. During my last visit my nail tech was chattier than normal, which is fine. Except much of the conversation was her trying to up-sell me on everything. I'm sure I said I just want a basic pedicure 3 different times. It was like "get the deluxe, you need the heal treatment, get a full set, eyebrow?". I explained that I was only treating myself to a basic pedicure, and that I'm trying to save money so maybe next time. I realize businesses are trying to stay afloat, and recoup losses, however clients could be struggling as well, and that spa pedicure may not be in their budget as we ALL struggle to rebound from the pandemic. I'm aware of the services you offer, and I was clear on what service I wanted. Instead of enjoying a relaxing pedicure, I felt like I was at a used car dealership. To add insult to injury, as I was leaving the male tech yelled "your client", as if I was trying to dine & dash. I had already paid & tipped before I even sat down for my nails to dry. Again, I understand but there are better ways to ensure that a clients bill has been settled. It felt very accusatory, especially given the harsh racial climate were ALL living in. It was the last thing I wanted to deal with after being haggled for the past 45 minutes. I had not been to Orchid Nails since I moved from DC almost 10 years ago. The establishment looks the exact same :) as I remembered it. My friend gets her regular mani/pedis here and she took me for my birthday since I was visiting DC again. I had a great mani/pedi with the paraffin wax on both my hands and feet. 5-3-21 Update -- the salon reached out to me after my review to ask if I could come back for a free redo. Finally went back last Friday, May 28. Other than over filing ALL of the fingernails of my right hand (SMH), it was a pleasant experience. I had two different ladies work on me -- thus the over filing -- and Kathy finally took care of me. After less than a week, my gel nail polish is still hanging on, but the polish on my toes is already peeling off on one foot. Needless to say, I'm going to keep on looking for nail places. read more

I have been going to Orchid nails for 16 + yrs. I have never been treated so rudely. I went early on a Sunday AM, I did not have an appointment. There are 3 workers and no customers. Cathy the owner had when to store and Lilly and one other lady were sitting all balled up in the chairs on their phones. I just want the gel taken off of my nails nothing else. I asked Lilly if she could do it she rudely said NO Cathy has to do. Now I am waiting thinking there going to start to get busy. Cathy comes in I asked her if, she said I have an appointment coming in 45 and come back at 4:00 PM. The whole time I waiting Lilly or other could of had it done it, this place was so unprofessional. Lilly is so RUDE!! Every time I go with an app I still wait, sometimes 1 hr. I have had to run out of there to pay the meter and have got parking tic's from being in there so long. Got in my car and went down the street to nail bar, they where busy but still took me, I did not have wait at all, this is a very professional place , clean but most of all NICE. This was a great experience, well both times I went. The first time Wendy did my nails and the second time Vivian did them. I was satisfied both times! Both created a comfortable environment and open conversation; so it wasn't just me getting my nails done in silence. Both also suggested nail care for me and didn't push me to any services or pushed services on me that asked for more money. The second time I got powder overlay on my real names and the powder isn't think at all and looks very natural! Both times I went, COVID safety measures are being exercised. The only thing pleasant about our experience was Desire, my nail tech. We were rushed from the beginning, made to feel unwelcome and burdensome. My friends manicure chipped the SAME day, and when I woke up this morning mine are chipped to pieces as well. Her nail tech kept blaming it on the polish being too thin, but it was a really poor job. My nails looked nice, they just didn't last. If it wasn't for Desire we really wouldn't have an awful experience, but her personality and attention to detail made it worth it. YAY For a great nail salon!! I'm from NJ/NYC where you can ALWAYS find a great nail salon for a super affordable price... I haven't been so lucky since moving to the DMV, and the places I HAVE found don't have the best customer service :0/... SO was hanging out in siliver spring (the bf lives here) and really really needed a mani. I googled places and found this one 1 mile from his house w/ pretty good reviews. So we went and I was lucky to get the owner, who gave me one of the BEST mani's I've ever had. Despite living in VA, I then went back to her before I went on vaca to the beach and spent extra for a gel manicure, o-m-g, it lasted FOUR WEEKS!! They really pay attention to detail, i.e. polishing below the cuticle and into the sides. This weekend I took my mom and her bf (all from VA) and we all got mani/pedi's, and their chairs are AMAZING! They have massagers on the sides of your legs AND underneath your bum..!!! A mani/pedi will cost you $35/40, but for the service and quality we'll drive 30 mins to go there... if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does...!! read more

The nail techs are no nicer and do not do any better of a job that the other nail salons I have visited in the DC area. I went to Orchid Nails on a Monday because I felt like treating myself on my day off. I live in Downtown Silver Spring, and this place is super close to my apartment. Also, Orchid offers a 20% discount Mon-Thurs. I just wanted a pedicure, and received just a pedicure. Nothing special. It has been over a week since my pedicure, and I see no chipping (standard). They give the best dip powder manicures of any salon I have been to in the DMV region. The nails last up to two months which is amazing!

First time visiting and was pleased with the service provided. I was warmly greeted with "pick a color" and then led to a comfy massage chair (muy nice). Mani pedi was real nice too, thanks to Lily! Don't be misled by her petite hands- because she gives a mean hand/foot massage. I was entertained with the news on their flatscreen and enjoyed skimming through up to date fashion magz. My Mani ended with a few dips in paraffin and Lily gently wrapped my hands in plastic. I have soft- silky smooth hands now... Ooo la la! A Few minutes under the nail heat/ dryer and a few sprays of quick-dry and I was good to go! They accept credit/cash and tips can be added on to your credit card. I will definitely return! read more

I just moved back to Silver Spring and discovered Orchid Nails was a few blocks from my new apartment. I went in initially to get an acrylic fill in, but thanks to the amazing Tommy, he plucked my acrylics off in record time, as he stressed that they were not good for my nails and they were also old, (something that other shops that I have been going to that I will not name here wouldn't have told me probably and this is my fault also, as I am a nails novice and just started getting them done very recently) I walked away with gel nail polish on my natural nails and it looks AMAZING. He took his time, gave my hands and fingers some much needed TLC, and did a beautiful job! Tommy has a client in me and I am grateful to have found such a knowledgeable nail tech! I got holographic gel nails done. She started by clipping my nails which where already shaped pointy and clipped of the point into a square shape and then asked me if I wanted the square shape and I said no, I wanted them pointy. Her work was very sloppy, she didn't clean up the edges so the nail polish is uneven around my nail bed. The next day, two of the nails peeled. I went back to get them fixed and again, sloppy work. I had to use nail clippers to clip off excess hardened gel from the tips of my fingers. Today I woke up, the next day after getting them fixed to find one is catching on everything and about to peel again. This all cost me $51 dollars (over charged by $5, was to busy talking at the moment to catch it and was not provided a receipt). Not worth the price or service. read more

I had to update my review because my last two experiences coming to the shop both left me frustrated. A HUGE problem with a lot of nail salons is that they don't listen to your requests and instead, try to upsell you with more expensive services. That wasn't my experience with this salon until my last two times coming. Today, being the worst. I come in for a gel manicure. Cheena (I'm not sure if that's how her name is spelled but that's what I was told her name was) hands me one selection of ONLY OPI gel colors. I don't see a color I like so she hands me another selection that is again, only OPI. I choose a color but I'm still not 100% satisfied so I ask to see more colors. Instead of giving me the other colors she says "You don't like what you picked? It's good for you." I say no, and she proceeds to file my nails and so okay. She says "gel manicure is $37, okay?" I say okay but then I'm confused because I've been here plenty of times and it's always been around $24/$25. After washing my hands I go look at the wall price and sure enough it says REGULAR GEL MANICURE - $24. I ask her again to see more colors and that it doesn't have to be OPI and she again says "but OPI is better" at this point I'm annoyed because instead of listening she's trying to push the more expensive service. She finally gives me the other colors and I make a selection and sure enough the color magically ran out. I say magically because the last time I was here and chose a regular gel color over OPI, I was told that color ran out too and when I expressed that that was the exact color I wanted, it suddenly reappeared . At this point I say I will pay for her filing my nails (that's all she's done, no color, no drip, nothing extra..) and leave because I can't get the color I want. I get to the register and she wants to charge the full regular manicure price even though all I've gotten done is the filing. I tell her that if I'm going to pay for a manicure then I'll get a regular color. She says "well gel is only $9" uhh I chose a color, you didn't have it, and instead of listening again you're trying to push a service. She gives me the regular polish equivalent to the gel polish I wanted and ONLY PUT ON ONE COAT. Are you serious? She said that she misunderstood my request (gold on ring finger only) and that's why she was only going to do one coat. I refuse to spend my money in places that won't listen to their customer and instead is only interested in pushing more expensive services, which I am used to but usually they back down after the first "no thanks." Safe to say that I will no longer recommend this place, or go again myself. read more

This place is very close to work so I walk over often. I found Pheary and she does my nails just the way I like them! (long and charp gel) she waxes my eyebrows. She's Very sweet. I've used someone else there before and didn't like it. Try the spa pedicure it's worth it. The place seems sanitized properly and for the most part it's never toooo busy but just right. My friend recommended I see Pheary to get my nails done before I left for a trip to Europe, and I'm so glad I did! I called Pheary for a last minute appointment, but she was already booked for the followingmorning and I had to leave for the airport by 1pm. When I told her why I needed my nails done and that I was very short on time, she went above and beyond and offered to come in an hour and a half before opening just to see me. I kept saying that I wasn't necessary; she didn't have to come in early on the account of my procrastination, but she wouldn't hear it--she insisted on seeing me at 8 am. Did I mention I'm a new customer? I'm currently sitting in her chair and my nails already look gorgeous. She's professional, so friendly, and most importantly, very clean. The quality of service in all my favorite places has gone down dramatically. I have been coming to Orchid Nails on and off for years. I finally figured out why my mani pedis don't always last long. They are stingy with the nail polish. I do my own nails and know you need at least three coats in order for it to last and look nice. The nail tech today obviously has never received this memo. So while I got an ok mani pedi I know it won't last. She barley put enough coats on my gel manicure. So overall three stars because they are nice and polite but quality of service gets 1 star. read more

The pedicure was okay, one thing that I didn't like was that the technician brought out a kitchen grater for my feet. She didn't ask me, which I found odd. For my SNS experience, Tommy is a delightful young man, sociable and conversationalist. He shaped my nails exactly the way I asked for them to be shaped. Lily has been doing my nails for about 5 years. These are my real nails and if I by ANY chance had to go to a different nail salon, they would ruin my nails. I don't trust anyone else with my nails. We've gone through gel and now the dip. It lasts even longer than gel and it's better for your nails. There are so many color options I never know what to choose! It appears to be a rather small store front location but I ran in there on my lunch hour desperately in need of a manicure and pedicure. Appointments are not honored at this salon. Today, I had a appointment. My technician started and had almost completed my services when the salon got busy with walk-ins. The manager reassigned my technician to do a full gel manicure for a walk-in client in the middle of my appointment and expected me to wait. I paid for the services that had been rendered and left without the rest. My time is important. If I have an appointment, I expect service to be completed before my technician moves on to someone else. I've been coming to the salon for about 3 years. I think that my patronage is now taken for granted as the salon courts new clients. I'll be moving on to a salon with more appreciation for customer loyalty. read more

I've given this place a try multiple times with multiple techs...I will not return. For one, they overcharge you and when you ask for a breakdown, they ramp up the prices for each service. Two, every time I go for a fill-in I have to get a new set because "water is under the nail and it started to lift". I've been getting my nails done since I was 15 years old. I'm 27 now. The products they use are cheap and the techs are greedy. And on top of everything, they pressure you into getting more expensive services.
