Came here for Easter and called ahead. I saw good reviews but the place was a mess when I got there. Staff screaming across the salon at a customer who came in for a redo. I was assisted by Lily who was a wreck. I stepped into the pedi bath and JUMPED out. It was lava water! She laughed and apologized. I asked for the mani pedi package at $35 but she wanted to up sell me...I said "no thanks". She was so quick and rough on my feet I kept having to stop my conversation with my friend to look down at what the heck was happening! It was the most unrelaxing day at a spa I ever had! My friend was still getting her pedicure when I was almost finished with my manicure! I announced that it was the quickest mani pedi I ever had...at a mere 30min. I was so upset. My friend even commented after how rushed and rude she seemed! I am so disappointed. My friends nail tech was fine and pleasant. No complaints there. Update: 4 days later...chips like no tomorrow. Love this place! It is the only place in the DMV that I will go to for manicures, pedicures, and shellac manicures. I've been going here for about two years consistently. The best manicurist in my opinion is Lily. She is fast, experienced, detail-oriented, and super sweet. Loves her! Her shellac manicures last about three weeks before the color begins to chip. I've only had positive experiences at this establishment. I do suggest that you make an appointment. On Fridays, Saturdays and after 6pm on weekdays, it tends to get very crowded. read more

Five of my family went together for holiday pedicures and it was disastrous for three out of the five. For those three, their water was COLD, not even lukewarm. Their $55 "hot stones" were COLD, not even lukewarm. Their pedicures were all "finished" in just a few minutes and then they were told to just enjoy their chair massage. LITERALLY, THE TECHNICIAN DIDN'T USE A SINGLE TOOL ON MY SISTER'S FEET. The two of us who had good pedicures got the whole works -- nail trimming and shaping, wax, hot stone massage -- and the other three had to sit around for half an hour and wait for us to get finished when they should have all been getting the same treatment. It was truly a surreal experience to witness the level of unprofessionalism that not one but three technicians were willing to consider acceptable. It's unfortunate, and for my family it was a missed opportunity for a nice holiday memory. read more

I just moved from NY a few weeks ago and was so sad to not have my go to nail salons near me anymore =( I live in Silver Spring and work in DC. I am looking for a nail salon in Maryland and/or DC to be my go to. Orchid Nails is NOT IT! I got a basic manicure and pedicure. Pedicure was decent. Manicure sucked! I got it done on Sunday. It is currently Thursday night and the majority of my manicured nails are chipped (hot mess!) The woman who did my mani and pedi was so soft spoken and easily angered when I asked her to repeat or did not want to do any of the "extras" (e.g., massage, spa pedicure) The only thing I thought was nice and different about the manicure was that they dip your hand in warm candle wax which makes your hands so soft. They called me back to ask if she needed help with walking and I appreciated that they thought about her safety. They were super kind, gentle, and friendly with my mother. Oh Orchid Nails, I am SO SO disappointed in you! After reading the reviews on Yelp - and having a horrible time finding a GOOD nail salon (read: affordable AND good technique) in the DC area - I was ready to be a regular customer. Lily was my tech for a pedicure and shellac...no wait, a gel fill...no wait, an OPI Shellac...no wait - something ELSE that the gentleman and she wanted to try to explain to me with "double talk". Folks - as a general rule - don't Bullshit a Bullshitter. First I was told that OPI Shellac is 36.00 dollars...but then the regular Shellac is 12.00 dollars (?) All I know is that I've had these types of nails for a year - and I've had acrylics for more than 20 years....again, don't try to bullshit me. So I had the pedicure - good overall - but absolutely NO cream or oil used on my legs - only the scrub. I saw all other pedicures receiving this part of the pedicure - but not moi. As I had my pedicure, Lilly tried to again figure out what nail service I wanted. After confirming that I was going to have my new AV gels put on (whatever she wanted to call it) she gave me the standard bowl of acetone to keep on my lap and soak my gels off. This is STANDARD procedure for this service (you'll understand soon why I mention this). Also, she scraped the gels off my nails with HER fingernails. I was really taken aback by this - especially since all of the reviewers note the cleanliness and professional conduct of this salon. There was NO reason not to use the proper nail tool for this normal procedure. After my pedicure, when we went to her station, Lilly repeated that I could have an OPI Shellac or just a "Shellac" (which is the same brand that I get back in Massachusetts). Since the OPI was much more expensive, I chose my shellac. Long story short - they JACKED UP THE PRICE and I ended up walking out paying FIFTY dollars. Yes, that's right. As I listened to Lilly list off the prices, I heard "soak off nails, 10 dollars" - oh absolute BULL! She also tried to sell me some flip flops for 2 dollars because my feet wouldn't be dry and I had worn my Ugg boots. Yeah, I'm NOT made of money...and I just sprayed the drying spray and had no problems. Too bad Orchid Nails - you could've had a VERY steady customer who tips extremely well. I have been getting my nails done on and off at Orchid for years and it is still the best nail salon in the area. All of the techs are friendly and know what they're doing. Most recently, I got a mani + pedi by Vichiny and she was great! I hate when techs rush through my pedi but she took her time without being slow. She also does the facials at Orchid and I decided to try the European Facial. I was skeptical at first about a facial in a strip mall salon but it turned out well. My skin definitely looked refreshed when she finished. In response to Sam D, they have done away with the service fee for customers paying with credit cards. Instead, they raised prices $1-2 on services. However, a mani + pedi is $35, which is generally what most salons charge. At least here a paraffin wax for your hands is included. read more

I just get plain old manicures and I swear I look like I have a french manicure. My feet are smooth. Decided to try this place for a mani-pedi last weekend. The price ($35) was reasonable and the place was a little busy, so it seemed like a safe bet. However, I ended up waiting in the pedicure chair for 15 minutes, which would have been ok if the water in the basin wasn't ice cold. At least the massage chair was working. Both the manicure and pedicure were rushed (it wasn't clean around the edges, looked like I did it myself...), and they chipped within 24 hours. Other customers seemed happy with their results, so if you get a recommendation for a specific technician it might not be so bad. Not the normal place I go, but I was in a rush and it was close by. I went here once a long time ago and couldn't remember why I hadn't been back...now I remember. They are way to pricey to only do the "ok" job that they do. The pedicure was ok, they charge extra to scrape callus. At my normal salon, they just do it. That's actually the only reason I like to get pedicures. I only had a little bit on the heel of my foot and I didn't think it necessary to pay extra just for that. The full set was a little pricey for me, but it wasn't terrible so I went through with it. There's an up charge for the coffin nail shape as well. I decided to pay for it, and honestly I wish I didn't. She didn't do a good job on the shape. Also I didn't want my nails quite so long, I having her cut it down and then she just stopped and said it's not going to be as long as I think...well it is. Conclusion: Up charge for everything, they do an OK job, don't get coffin nails, and I won't be going back. read more

Lilly, Lilly, Lilly - I've searched high and low for you. After those butchers at XXX around the corner left my gel nails looking like mangled, melted plastic, I've been on the hunt for a nail tech who knows how to do straight hard gel, not powder gel. Lord. You'd think I was searching for the damn Holy Grail. Enter Orchid Nails. *They are good about keeping appointments, and never have trouble with walk-ins. *Techs are super friendly and remember their customers favorite colors. *Half a dozen spa pedicure chairs, with working (yay!!) massagers. *Shellac and Gelish manicures. I also recently had a brazilian wax there. Although I prefer the medi-spa environment, I kept seeing satisfied looking girls zip in and out of the back room. So I gave it a shot...and glad I did. I appreciated that the room is completely enclosed, no space above the walls so others can hear your screams. Which, as it turns out, was not an issue. Perfect temp on the wax, and she used multiple wax sticks (no double dipping). She missed a few here and there, and I had a few broken hairs, but no sticky residue, no wax burn and no ingrowns. I can live with that tradeoff. She also cut me a break on the price...I love that they work with you. read more

They cut me! I've been coming to Orchid nails for years and they have never cut me in the dozens of times that I've had acrylic nails there. When I told the owner about it, she blamed me for it, saying that the finger is small and the machine is delicate and I must have been moving around. I am not sure if its just me but it definitely didn't seem sanitary. I would go ahead and say its safe I wouldn't return. It's just unlike any other nail salon I have been too the lady who had me didn't even try to engage me in conversation. The decor needs major update -- magazine clippings on the walls. I got a gel manicure and well it wasn't bad except I wanted one nail on each hand with glitter and after she started she decided then to tell me an extra 3bucks pee nail just for a different nail color. I'm sorry I hate leaving negative reviews but please it wasn't even a design. And the uv light thing for the gel nails was GROSS I have pictures of it. My experience here was great. I picked this place through Yelp and visited this morning. The place was very clean but there was a short wait of about 15 minutes. I asked for a pedi and the OPI Soak Off Gel. Emily did my pedi and was very friendly and talkative. she even recognized that i had eczema (as another client does as well) and asked if the scrub and lotions were ok before applying. Then after about 10 minutes Tina began on my nails with the OPI Gel service, I chose a hot pink shade (I'm India mood for love, i think) and the service took about 25 minutes total including drying time. Overall, I was very please with the services and will return in 2-3 weeks time. i would recommend that you go on a weekday bc even on a friday at 10am there was a 15 minute wait. both services together came to $61 and i got $2 off for paying with cash. read more

I'll start by saying I'm Viet and my brother owns a nail salon in Miami. I'm not skilled in the trade and am too lazy most times to do it myself (especially after I've kind of let it go, if you know what I mean). So, I can be very critical. Every experience is different as well as who you see. But here's my two cents. I've been here several times. I came back because it's affordable, convenient (I live two blocks away) and pretty fast service. Besides, it had the best reviews on Yelp around DTSS.The two stars is for overall experience- details below. My first visit was with Mary for eyebrows and underarm waxing. I was not pleased with either results. She didn't get all the hair on top and bottom of my eyebrows. It looked like I did a poor wax job at home myself. I came back though because I didn't want to write it off of one visit. The second visit was for the same services. I had to wait about 10 min this time. No biggie. Not sure of her name. It turned out ok. Third visit was with the same tech for the same services again. I was pleased with the eyebrows, but I got a few heat bumps from the hot wax on my skin. The underarms were horrible. She lathered the wax on the whole underarm! Not in sections. It didn't take off much so she had to tweeze a lot of it off. Yet, she didn't get more than half off. Fourth visit, I decided to try their nail services. I treated myself to the Runner's Spa pedicure. It's suppose to take all your feet callous and leave your feet smooth. Anna was my tech. It was a little over $40 for the spa treatment and a French pedicure. I still have a bit of callous on both feet... And I don't think my feet were THAT bad. Even if it was, the service description said it would take all that away. The French pedicure turned out ok but I still have dry skin around my nails and the French is subpar to my expectations. Aside from this, Anna kept snatching the massage chair controller from me- literally out of my hand!- to adjust the chair even though I told her I'm just short and the chair is all the way up. I'm sure she didn't mean to be impolite but it was pretty rude to do it three times. Overall, an okay place but I don't plan to return unless I'm desperate for okay service. read more

They do chrome nails (Wendy added the chrome to mine)! Mirror chrome! They're also close to the metro and they have lovely massage pedicure chairs. I went to have a pedicure on Sunday with a friend. I have been to a lot of nail salons, but I have never been to this salon before. I am pretty disappointed in my experience there, and this is why. I picked a nail color, and when I got seated with my feet in the water I was told that this nail color was $5 more. There should have been a sign saying that the nail color was more expensive. I have never been charged extra for OPI nail color before. The lady said I could go pick out another nail color, but I didn't want to get up and go over there. Also, she could have picked the same color. She kept telling me that the same color didn't exist, but I really don't think that's true. I ended up not picking any color, because that left a sour taste in my mouth. I asked for the extra $5 callous removal. Usually this is done by wrapping the feet in plastic and leaving the solution on for a while. She just put the solution on my feet, and didn't give it time to work. The other thing I didn't like was the amount of time she spent on my legs. Most pedicures, when they put the sugar or salt rub on your legs, they at least spend a couple of minutes rubbing it into your legs. She only spent about 30 seconds, then washed it off. Also, most places the lady does a little leg or foot rub - not a full massage, but maybe a couple of minutes. Again, this lady didn't do anything. I had asked for eyebrow tinting, an extra $25. When I went into the little room for her to do it, I was shocked at how dirty the room was. There were stains all over the walls. And finally, the eyebrow tint has not lasted. Three days later, my eyebrows almost look the same as they did before she tinted them. read more

I have mixed feelings on this place. I really enjoyed the experience and atmosphere. It seemed pretty clean and fun-looking and the technicians were nice. I had an OPI gel manicure done with the free paraffin wax. I loved that the wax was included, and my nails looked great. Unfortunately, gel should last for 2-3 weeks. I've had gels done before that usually last around 3. I had this one done on a Saturday and days later the gel was starting to chip and getting caught on stuff and pulling off. I don't want to pay $36+tip for something that only lasts a matter of days. So, while I'm glad I tried this place, I'm not certain if I will be going back for any mani's in the future. (I haven't ruled out a pedi yet) I might go to B K nails, even if it's more expensive. read more

On the recommendation of a family member, I headed to Orchid Nails for eyelash extensions. The salon offers a special on individual lash extensions Monday-Wednesday, reducing the price to $20 (a discount of $7 off the regular price). Heading there on a Monday afternoon, the place was not crowded (which was to be expected) and so I was seated immediately. The process for applying the lashes was quick and easy and the extension themselves looked fabulous after the application. The only downside: the technician applied a thick coat of lash glue to the extensions after they were put on (similar to how you'd apply mascara) which made the lash extensions bulky and heavy and a absolute nightmare to remove later on. While I'm sure this is done to extend the life of the individual lash extensions, I'd recommend you ask that this step be skipped, especially if you're opting for a more natural look. Overall, I was happy with the end product and would definitely head there again. read more

Just moved to the area from Brooklyn NY and was looking for a clean reasonable place to get a great mani pedi . I must say i have been to Orchid Nails twice so far and have been satisfied with the results. The first time I went and got a gel manicure i was a little disappointed in that it didn't last long like I'm used to with the ones i get back in NY which can last me 2-3 weeks. This gel manicure lasted at most 1.5 weeks. I'll give Orchid one more shot for the Gel manicure before I completely write them off. As far as the pedicures they are amazing, relaxing and more importantly long lasting. My nail polish has not chipped and my feet felt amazing after. The regular manicures are also very very good and last a long time. They also do not chip easily. Beware they charge you $10 extra if you switch from gel back to regular polish as opposed to doing another gel color,which to me is ridiculous. They definitely don't do that back in NY. The only weird moment I had was when my roommate went for a french pedicure. In NY we are used to technicians using the thin nail polish brush to apply the white line however here they used a regular standard white nail polish brush to apply the line. It came out okay but the process took longer because they had to wait for the base coat to dry before they applied the line. It wouldn't have been a big deal if the lady doing the pedicure didn't say "I'm not used to doing the French pedicure" 0_0 at that point we had to request that she stop and have someone who knew how to do it finish the job. Overall For Now This Is My Go to spot. I would recommend it . I'm still going to explore other options but for now this will do. JENNY is awesome so ask for her when you go. read more

GREAT experience. Decided to check the shop out after reading reviews here on Yelp and I am REALLY glad I did. On the recommendations of others before me, I asked for an appointment with Pheary. She was available right away and did a superb job on both my hands and feet. I got a full gel set plus a pedicure and designs. She did such a good job on both that my hands looked great for almost 4 weeks (travel, work and other busy-ness kept me away) and my pedicure has lasted even longer and I get compliments every day. I typically don't write reviews at all unless I'm sure about something or someone, so I would definitely recommend Orchid Nails. I've been going to Orchid Nails for over two years now for a gel manicure and pedicure and try to always make my appointments with Pheary if she's available. Pheary never disappoints me because I feel like she cares about the way my nails look. The other ladies are very nice and I'm sure do a great job, but I've become accustomed to the time and attention that Pheary puts into making sure my gel manicure and pedicure are on point. And, if it were up to me, I would get the same colors every time, but Pheary will take it upon herself to recommend some colors I would not have otherwise chosen (and they actually look good!). I would not consider the salon itself upscale, but it is clean and there's a variety of gel colors to choose from. I've gone to a few other upscale salons in the area but always end up coming back to Orchid Nails to see Pheary. read more

The last few times I visited this salon I was pregnant with my son and I visited a few times when my son was an infant. He's three now, so needless to say- it's been a while. My son and husband went to get a haircut a couple doors down so I decided to go into Orchid. I requested a pedi/mani, the technician named Lilly; tapped me and the first question to me was "how is your son?" I was taken aback that she would remember me and/or my son especially considering the last time she saw me/him/us was three years ago. Now that's customer service!!!
