Asian restaurant that combines Chinese, Thai, South East Asian and Japanese in strip that's a little hidden. Seafood Udon Noodle soup is plentiful and was shared, tasty. Pad Thai can be spicy so if you want it with no spice make sure to tell them. We went here for lunch on a Sunday, and surprisingly, the place was pretty empty. The host/server was super friendly and welcoming, which set a nice tone for our visit. The decor was on the darker side. It's not exactly my style, but I could see what they were going for. One of my favorite parts was the complimentary chips with duck sauce. They were so good, I probably could've just snacked on those the whole time! To start, we ordered the scallion pancake;my boyfriend absolutely loved it, but for me, it was just okay. For our mains, he got the General Tso tofu, and I went with the crispy shrimp salad. We both agreed that the General Tso tofu was a winner! It was flavorful, crispy, and just really well done. My crispy shrimp salad, on the other hand, was a bit of a letdown. The shrimp wasn't crispy at all; it tasted like something straight out of the freezer and microwaved. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but hey, you can't win them all. Overall, there were some great highlights and a few misses, but it's worth trying for yourself. I feel the quality of the food here has gone down and the prices have gone up a lot over the past 2 years. The food has lost its taste and is very greasy lately. The restaurant still has a good ambience and friendly staff so that has not changed. I'm saddened that even with prices going up like this, I'd expect the same quality as before. read more

Older review.... family wanted to order out on Christmas Eve. I didn't want to but was outvoted. Called, placed order, and was surprised when I was advised 45 minutes. Arrived at the appointed time, and it was barely possible to enter the door because of so many people waiting for pickups. Waited 1-1/2 hours ! ! ! In speaking with other "regulars" who were waiting, we were told no matter when you order, you are told "40-45 minutes". Their common practice. Appeared to be a minimally staffed operation. Woman at register was taking orders, going to the kitchen to pick up completed orders, waiting on the several tables that were occupied by dine-in, clearing tables, cashing people out. Seemed like only one cook.... orders came out about 5-10 minutes apart. A lot of people left without their orders. Food was a bit above average for local Chinese, but the overall operation was a sad joke. read more

Ordered takeout for dinner from this place and would come back again! The ribs were nicely toasted and the broccoli had a kick to them. The main dishes were odd seeing it served with a carb (rice/noodles). Serving four people, there wasn't enough of the main dish portion for everyone. If I had to give this restaurant 0 stars I would. First of all I get it was Valentine's Day when my family ordered take out. Don't state you will have my order out in a half hour and then serve others who came in after me their take out orders. Also they cheat on the ingredients. The Walnut Chicken and Aloha Chicken had no chicken whatsoever I checked it. It was just fried breading. I got so sick in the middle of the night I don't know what they did with the food. When I even asked when my order is coming out they kept saying soon 3x. UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.. This used to be a good restaurant for $100 dollar take out for my family I can make this myself. The food was okay. Service was horrible. The restaurant was empty of eat in customers. It was dark and freezing. You did not have a pleasant dining experience being so cold. The spring rolls very grease with oil actually dripping out. I've never had egg rolls or spring rolls that greasy. Our meals were brought to the table without rice. We were half way finished before the white rice and fried rice were brought to the table and that's because my sister got up and when to the kitchen to ask about the fried rice we ordered and the white rice for the other dishes. They seem to be worried about the takeout customers more than they eat in costumers. Hi, It is me again. Haven't reviewed a place in a while because I have been cooking a LOT more since eating out costs so much. At Orchid you can find deals for Lunch at very reasonable prices. There are Thai, Chinese and Japanese offerings! So if you are curious this is the place to be! And the food is beautifully prepared and is handled with care and precision, resulting in fine, delicious dishes. I had Fried fish in Black bean sauce, the fish was cooked Perfectly and I also tried the Tom ka gai, Coconut soup. I enjoyed both, my friend ordered Chicken and Broccoli and the chicken was cooked well. Spring rolls were good too. The atmosphere is pretty and a little dark, which I enjoy, orange and wood is always pleasant to me. The people here are hard working and you can tell this, whoever is back there cooking, they know what they are doing, and I appreciate that very much. Pretty decent American Chinese food restaurant in East Brunswick if you're looking for a quick bite. The interior is nice and cozy. Staff is friendly, but forgot to give me parts of my order once, but I forgive them (had to drive back for my missing egg rolls). We ordered the steamed dumplings and scallion pancakes as appetizers. Dumplings were good but scallion pancakes were terrible, very thin and falling apart. We didn't get any noodles and duck sauce when we sat down. The waitress was rushed and didn't ask if we wanted drinks, she took food order and started to walk away and we had to ask for drinks. Boyfriend had the Hong Kong wonton noodle soup which he didn't care for. I had the chicken and broccoli combination plate. Combo plate had pork fried rice and egg roll. The chicken and broccoli and rice were decent but egg roll was gross. Don't think we will be back. It's nice to go to an asian restaurant and not be undated with msg,glurpy food and hungry an hour later. We started off with wonton egg drop soup, they make their own dumplings which are little and just enough meat, spring rolls light n crispy and an egg roll, veggie dumplings which are so addictive. We were fighting over them lol. I ordered spicy mango chicken, which was so delicious, even made the chicken taste amazing(so sick of chicken) but it was definitely on my top 10 my friend ordered the spicy curry chicken which I tasted and was just enuff spice with awesome crunchy veggies. The sauce was really light. This will always be my favorite Asian restaurant. Their food is so fresh and delicious. Although their food is good, I don't appreciate being overcharged for my food Last night part of my order was the Hong Kong Noodle Soup which on the menu is $7.50, When I got home and saw the receipt. I was charged $8.95 When I got home. Food is very fresh tasting, reasonably priced and portion sizes are good but not enormous. Pork dumplings are nice with a vinegary dipping sauce, General Tao's chicken is flavorful and not over breaded, chicken with eggplant in garlic sauce was delicious! This is a gem in a strip mall. Authentic Thai food with some other Asian fusion dishes. I love the Pad Thai, and Spicy Mango Chicken. They also have a dish called Aloha Chicken that's delicious, and I like their spring rolls. I love rice noodles they have a large selection of Mai Fun, Pad Thai, and egg noodles too. For a first time order of an Asian Fusian restaurant in East Brunswick (EB) this was pretty good! I mean for EB has struggled for many years to get exceptional Asian cuisine (for those that think Sunny Palace is top notch, groan...) it appears only in the last five years or so they have gotten it back. Since these folks do not deliver, I did a carry out order of three items, Steamed Dumplings and two Grilled Chicken Udon Noodle soups. The total came out to $25 which is more than fair for them, and they were all packaged well. Upon coming home and seeing what I got I tried the dumplings first. Nice savory flavor and the dipping sauce added a nice tang to it. I also got six of them which is plenty for an appetizer. Then I tried the Udon. Nice amount of vegetables and HUGE pieces of chicken in them. It was like the ripped up a chicken cutlet and put it into the broth. The soup also had ample noodles which always is a plus. Good thing I asked for no onions or that could have been a recipe for disaster. When I am back in town I would not mind trying something else from them. This was a good start. read more

Wonton soup was good. So were the fried dumplings and ribs. We had honey walnut chicken and shrimp. The sauce didn't taste like honey walnut sauce. It tasted more like a mayonnaise based sauce. It was light yellow. Didn't taste bad just not what we expected. Staff was friendly. Only one waitress handling the restaurant and the takeout orders so wait was long for service and food on a Friday night. The restaurant is small but clean and nicely decorated. Excellent service and delicious meal at an impressive price point. We were immediately greeted and seated. Service was very attentive and patient. The hot and sour soup was incredibly tasty and the right amount of heat to satisfy anyone's craving for something spicy and flavorful. The entrées arrived moments after we finished our soups and appetizers. Each was a large portion despite being a lunch special. We liked the food, and some of the dishes were similar to the style we would get in NY, and for that, I was super pleased. Like the quiet spot, in a shopping center that doesn't get very busy (Stop/Shop), plenty of parking. Dark lighting, simple decor, and had a cozy, almost romantic ambiance. Wasn't crowded on a Friday night at 7:30PM, but saw a couple families dining in. Probably get more take-out orders for dinner, as the bags were piling up at the front desk, the chairs were more or less occupied at any given time, and people were coming/going. Hostess/staff very friendly. Efficiently took our order and when it was ready, made sure to let us know. Didn't take more than 15-20 mins. It is very expensive though, at least dinner prices. I don't normally see General Tso chicken for $12.95 in Queens or Chinatown places (minus the trendy fusion spots or tourist traps). The chicken was good, very hearty chunks of meat, but the breading was on the thinner side, so it lacked any kind of crispy crunch. Sauce was subtle and it coated the chicken evenly, not drenching the entire dish. Wouldn't get it again, but that's a personal preference. Our favorite was the Shrimp/mayo sauce with honey walnuts -- big shrimp pieces, but most likely a lot of coating as well. Generous with the mayo sauce without being overwhelming or soggy, and crunchy broccoli. Would come back mainly for this dish. The dumplings (pork) had a TON of meat. I was shocked, had never seen so much solid pork, like a little meatball stuffed in a dumpling wrapper. I'm used to a little meat with veggies to "plump up" the mixture, and basically you're eating 80% wrapper. This was a pleasant surprise. Beef pan-fried noodles: Crunchy noodles and they put the sauce on the bottom. The sauce was on the runny side, instead of a thick gravy. Didn't have any greens in there. Roast pork lo-mein rounded out the meal. A bit bland, but salty at the same time. All these dishes added up to around $65, and this was takeout. read more

Found this great restaurant years ago. Nice quiet location right off Route 18 South. This place gives you a NYC vibe with its modern decor. It's cozy and lightly dimmed. Spacious seating with booths and tables. The employees are so friendly and accommodating with their customers. The food is delicious and they offer decent portions for the price.
