It's been several years since I've had to make a trip to the Oregon DMV and I just had my best experience ever at the Hillsboro branch They were out of appointments so I had to go in as a walk in and the place was packed when I got here on Thursday at 3pm But, to my pleasant surprise, the host asked me if I wanted to get text updates about my wait. What a great service! So I gave her my phone number and was able to wait outside in the comfort of my own car and enjoy reading my book. Their system sent me a few updates as my spot in line approached. They also provided a link to web page where I could view my wait status. That was nice since I didn't have to worry about losing my place in line while I waited outside I ended up waiting just 20 minutes (they served 11 folks in that time) and got my job done in two minutes. So I had a great experience here and especially appreciate the hard work DMV has done to serve us and minimize the pain of going to the DMV office. Kudos! :) read more

Arrived and got my number at 10:22 i was behind 100 people. The line moved steadily and I left at 11:30. The noise was overwhelming. But the staff was courteous and efficient as possible. Plenty of seating. read more

this DMV office in Hillsboro is very poorly run. Whoever is running it should be fired. They charge you a lot of money renew your tag then you have to wait for 3 to 4 hours online that is not acceptable. So sad to see Portland going downhill. I don't know how the other states are read more

I wanted to make an appointment. I called. A computer generated voice sent me a link to the website. I went online to make an appointment. I went around in circles for a few minutes, only to be told there were no appointments. Why are we encouraged to make appointments when there are none? It would be so nice to talk to a real person. 6-8 weeks to get a replacement car title when I had the original title with me, it just had white out on it. Now I can't sell my car for up to 2 more months because they can't print a piece of paper, they have to ship it to me. AND it costs $106 for that piece of paper. There was no way to get it any sooner even by paying more. read more

Remembering my experience at the Beaverton DMV ( insanely busy and kinda slow) branch I tried and tried to get here before 8 on a Monday am but my body couldn't do it. I arrived at 8:55 and got number 83. Ok. So, there is this amazing man at the info counter/front desk who greets you, reminds you to get your numbered ticket, helps you get paperwork in order, does your eye test, keeps track of who is in line ( about 5 people at a time) and all around organizes the process. He is so nice! He welcomes newcomers to Oregon, congratulates people on their recent marriage, and is gentle to freaked out teenagers and their equally nervous parents. I do not know his name but he is amazing. I heard him say he is retiring in two years. That will be a loss. I renewed my license and took care of one other thing and was in and out in under an hour. Which is also dang amazing. As someone who used to go to a nightmare hellhole DMV in Arizona, the other yelpers complaining here have no idea how spoiled they are. And I found everyone to be nice, friendly, and efficient. Honestly, a good DMV experience. ( ikr!?!) read more

-try to arrive at least 30 minutes before opening if you don't have an appointment. I arrived 30 min after opening without an appointment, and I waited about 1 hour 30 min when I was told it would take approximately 45 minutes. I would say this is actually average. Most people that came in after me gave up. -when I had an appointment, the wait was still long, maybe 30-45 min. It just depends how difficult the people in front of you in line are, honestly. Appointments allow you to skip grabbing a queue number but there's still a lot of people in the line. -there's a Dutch Bros coffee in the parking lot, I really enjoyed going there while I waited for my number to be called, but you cannot take the drinks or any food inside! So go right after you grab your queue number. -bring a book but don't bring headphones! They will quietly shout out waiting numbers every few minutes to line up and it's easy to miss your number because they don't update the queue on the wall as quickly as they shout out the numbers -be nice to the staff! They seemed knowledgeable just understaffed. read more

The Oregon DMV is part of a system designed to keep Oregonians in Poverty! There was a time years ago when your tax dollars and fees ran the DMV to the point that you could schedule a drive test and acquire a license. Now we are paying more in Taxes and getting far less services including the most basic of services like doing a drive test. A drive test is one of the basic logical base-level services that a DMV should provide. They should be ashamed of themselves that they even suggest going to a more expensive 3rd party tester. Why are we paying more taxes for less services including an inability to provide the logical basics. The process for a teen, minority, or anyone else is now made more complex and more expensive. Most Jobs require you to get to work. I believe the Oregon DMV wants people to remain in poverty and under the control of the Government, on Government assistance. You don't want Boys and Girls to become Men and Women. You want perpetual children. read more

The Oregon DMV is a complete joke. They are open 3 days a week from 10am to 230pm with an hour and a half lunch. They have increased prices and have taken away services. The pandemic is long over. Hire some people do whatever it takes to provide the services that the tax payers are paying for. There is absolutely no accountability, and no over site. We as the people of this state need to require that accountability from our state government. It's sickening how they are just taking more from us and not giving us what we are paying for. read more

Best DMV I have been to in Illinois. Had about a 15 minute wait maximum, everyone that worked there was friendly and courteous. Everything went smoothly and made this old codger very relaxed when taking a driving test again after many years. I tried to get a copy of my title from the Oregon DMV for 9 months. I was in a unique situation where I totaled my car, but I did not yet have a copy of the title showing the lien release. I sent in multiple forms with information from my credit union and my insurance company. I had different people answer the phone, most of whom were unhelpful. The final straw was when the woman hung up on me. I eventually signed a power of attorney for my insurance company and they took care of it. The fact that there was no manager to talk to meant each person could just pass me off to the next. I don't typically leave reviews like this, but I felt it necessary in this situation. read more

Online is a users nightmare, good luck getting help, if you have changed your email address GGOD LUCK!!! You cannot get logged in to receive passcode to log in, that would include changing you email address. DMV SUCKS!!!!! read more

Worst DMV I've ever been in. The employee (blonde girl, speaks Spanish) who helped us was not helpful at all. We got all the papers to proceed with just for them to make an excuse that they can't do nothing. We waited two hours for nothing. When we went another day with a different person there was no issue and we provided the same papers. It doesn't make sense on why the other lady just didn't want to proceed. Same issue happened when my dad went he waited for a while just to not get help went to another dmv and had no problem. read more

Arrived at 2:30pm and finally got up to the counter at about 4:45pm. The service person started processing my request when suddenly she said, "we can't continue because the camera just broke." I asked, "if the camera is broken why are all of those people standing in line to get their picture taken"? She had no answer but I have one, they didn't want to stay past 5:00pm. In addition, those workers are the rudest nastiest I have ever seen. What a terrible place and terrible lying people. read more

making another visit in july of 2023. got title from out of state need vin inspection to transfer title. first called for appointment they are 2 months out. so that wont work need it in one week. so went to dmv at 700 am was 22 in line. did not get out of there till 1000 am. because they deal with appointments first. then waiters are whenever they get to you. if there going to do appointments they need to be able too address you within a couple weeks. and should be dealing with appointments and waiters at the same time. this place is a joke and a shit show. who ever set up this system should be fired. we pay for this service with taxes and it fucking sucks shit. cant the goverment hire anybody to do the job the correct way. read more

My husband is disabled and was there to turn in his disability parking slip and this lady with blonde hair (I really should of asked for her name) was very rude and impatient to everyone that came in before me in line. We patiently waiting to find out from her that she WOULD NOT accept his paper because the doctor needed to fill out all parts of the form, which WAS NOT accurate at all. Making my disabled husband waste a whole day of time to go back to the hospital just so they could fill out this address, date of birth, etc which he could of done there at DMV. Honestly that lady should have no parts w being a social worker if she doesn't like her job.. I get it was busy but dismissing him the way she did was so WRONG. PLEASE if ANYONE needs any Government work done don't waste your time here.. take another 5-10 min drive to the Beaverton location... very helpful workers there THIS PLACE HAS ALWAYS SUCKED.. idk why we even decided to come back to get help. read more

Oregon DMV is the absolute worst dmv I have ever encountered. I feel like I live in a 3rd world country. The online system seems like a child designed it. I have yet to be able to make any appointments through the online system. There is 1 number for all of Oregon to call, you can not call individual offices. The hold time is well over a hour- with no callback. When I have been able to get an in person "appointment", I ended up at the dmv for approximately 3 hours. So unacceptable. Tried emailing dmv with my issue and it said it would take close to 18 days to receive a response. When I called my local dmv office in California I was immediately speaking with a human. I was offered an in person appointment at the dmv of my choice within 48 hours. Every state and government agency in Oregon seems to be equally lacking. Even the healthcare system here is lacking. Clearly not having state taxes is NOT working for Oregon!! I would happily pay state taxes to receive better services. read more

I've been here a number of times and I'm always surprised how fast it goes. Off course it helps to know what paperwork you need and have it filled out ahead of time. You can get common forms from the DMV website and fill them out and print them at home or work before you arrive. As soon as you get there, get a number from the ticket machine. There is an information desk right inside the door if you need advice. Don't forget to bring proof of citizenship to renew your license even if you have had it a long time! I like the way they queue you up in 5's so you can stay seated while you wait. The chairs are hard but the staff is friendly and efficient. It even has rest rooms, which the Cedar Mills location, which is twice the size doesn't have. Ironically, they are both next to a Harbor Freight store. read more

I've never had a problem in the past with Hillsboro DMV. The service has been fine and the wait time, very acceptable. Today was very different and didn't have anything to do with the wait time. I was there with my daughter for her very first drivers permit test between 2 and 3pm. Once we made it to the counter, the woman was rude to me regarding my daughters eye glasses. We simply answered the question she asked, if that her glasses were for distance and I was trying explain that they were progressive lenses which are lenses for distance and reading (I wanted to know if that made a difference for this particular vision test) because the gal asked specifically if they were for distance. No, they aren't just for distance! But before I could let her know, she stopped me she told me she was ONLY asking my daughter the question. My daughter would not think to let her know they are progressives so that is why I was trying to explain and ask. I told her sorry for answering but, I was so baffled on why I was spoken to that way. So, I literally asked her if I could speak so I could let her know about the progressive lenses without upsetting this woman further. After my daughter took the permit test (she had not passed) I wasn't sure what to do next as we have never done this before (well, it's been 28 years since I was doing this)I wasn't sure if we just leave and come back another day like it stated online, or if there was something we needed to do before leaving. My daughter had informed me that the computer had told her to go to the counter. I did go up to the counter to ask what to do and this second woman was even more rude. I was shocked at the way she spoke to me. I simply let her know that my daughter didn't pass and I wasn't sure what to do next, do we leave, is there something else we need to do? I have no problem AT ALL waiting in line for my turn, but I didn't see where to stand or what to do. I was simply asking for guidance and direction, that's all. The way she told me about the line and rudely told me I could leave if I wanted was uncalled for. I stood in the line which was absolutely fine. When I reached this same woman again, I did let her know that I didn't appreciate the way she had spoke to me and that I just needed guidance. She did apologize. I hope it was sincere. She gave me the instructions politely then and we left. I understand that this is government run business. It's a business we need, not an option if we want to drive. So, I suppose customer service can afford to be lacking at businesses like this. I just hope people can treat other people with respect and like a human being no matter what business you're in. I will say that the very first lady when we arrived and received our number ticket, the woman who gave us the application to fill out and she was the one calling the numbers out in order, was the only nice woman there today. Cons: disorganized numbering system. They do not call by number, but instead by who is in line first. #67 gets to go in front of #60 and they don't even know (or care). I went in first thing in the morning, not much of a wait, maybe 45 minutes, they made a common human error mistake, i didn't notice it until i was out of the office, the next time i went in to get it fixed, they went out of their way to make it right -- no waiting in line again, no paying another $200 fee again. As a Truck driver i make my living off my license, they seemed to realize this was a critical issue to me. Having dealt with DMVs in; MN, ID, MT, HI, ND and NV i was expecting both a long wait time (because i had to come in at 3 pm after work), and to have to pay to have a CDL re-issued. My experience with other DMVs was that there was no question that this would be the case. They realized that THEY screwed something up and that I shouldn't be punished because of it, Of course (Lesson here) I didn't come in with an attitude, I still said my Sir and Ma'am, Please and Thank you. Also, I Laugh at your complaints about a 2-3 hour wait time...Las Vegas has a standard 6+ hour wait, (so long they have a phone system with text updates of your place in line) and Minnesota and Hawaii are almost as bad if you come at the wrong time. This DMV in particular is WELL above the national average. But i will say as with anywhere if you come with a sour attitude, you're probably going to have a sour experience. People have a job to do, large portions of that job they can't change for the better, but you can at least try to help them have a slightly better day. read more

I went in on February 4th around 3pm to get the title for my car, there was a bit of a wait but I didn't really mind that. My problem was the ghastly middle-aged woman who attended me, prior to speaking with me I overheard her talk to a couple of other people in such a rude inconsiderate manner! While waiting I was secretly hoping that I wouldn't get her next, but unfortunately I did, and not surprisingly-- my experience with her was the same as those before me. She "greeted" me with a, "What do you need!?" Shocked by her repulsive tone I stumped on my words and replied with a meek, "excuse me...?" And again she asked me the same question but this time with a raised voice as if she was speaking to some imbecile, I was truly baffled, never in my life have I had such terrible service! In the middle of it a person who she helped before interrupted us and said that she had made a mistake or something (clearly her quality of work is substandard) After helping the person she had this embarrassed look on her face and rage in her eyes while she helped me, the whole interaction was terrible I don't even want to write down anymore of her comments as this is already quite long. I honestly thought about leaving but because it's not something I can easily move around in my schedule I decided to stay and be as polite as possible to this woman, I would include her name but she was not wearing a name tag, in my past jobs I had a few coworkers who would deliberately take off their name tags before being rude or fighting with clients, maybe this was also the case. read more

I never thought I'd want to post a review, much less a complimentary review, for a DMV. I am a transplant (shhhh don't tell my neighbors, my heart has always been in Oregon,) from Las Vegas. In Vegas, we take a book to the DMV because you can wait hours and hours with HUNDREDS of other people for service. The civil servants there are robots, they never help, they have no empathy, they never smile. So, when you move, you have to transfer titles to all your vehicles to Oregon (stupid, they are already titled, but it sure brings great money to the state.) You also have to switch your driver's license over. Time consuming and expensive. I stood in this DMV, complaining loudly about the transfer fees on ALL our vehicles, and the fact the state MEASURES your RV (Nevada charges under $50 for all RV's.) These kind people were compassionate, and they had me laughing before I left! This week, it was time to take my 16 year old down for his testing, and they were so kind and so nice. I looked around and noticed every single employee was SMILING. Wow! No one wants to go to DMV--but this one is pretty fast if you go during the day, and the people are HELPFUL. They tell you just what you need to make your tasks easier...they are really there to serve the public and they make a mundane task go quickly and easily. My compliments to the Hillsboro DMV. I went it to renew documents, and was complete with everything in five minutes. Great staff, customer service, and very efficient.

I never post anything, but I couldn't resist after a very frustrating day at the Hillsboro, Oregon DMV. I bought a car so I went to the DMV to change the title over. They were able to do this for me, but the gal that helped me said the tags were expired. I let her know that the person I bought the car from said they took the car through DEQ in May and the car passed, and the car has new tags on it. The DMV gal told me "well those tags don't go to that car" and we don't have anything in our computer system that shows that it went through DEQ testing. I went home and got the DEQ paperwork and took it back to DMV where I waited another hour to show them the paperwork. The administrator informed the gal that was helping me that there have been a few glitches, 3 so far, where the computers at DEQ don't push the information through to the computers at DMV. They told me I needed to go to DEQ and tell them to recreate the interaction , and push it through. I have to say the head of the Hillsboro, OR DEQ was wonderful!!! Very apologetic, and very helpful! She fixed the problem. All it takes is a little kindness. DMV could have called DEQ for me, and they could have offered to give me a pass so I wouldn't have to wait in line an hour for the second time that day. Also, how about a pass for my third trip? But sigh, none of this happened, and now I need to go back to DMV and wait for a third time to get this rectified. I wish the woman who runs the DMV could go out of her way to talk to me directly and try to be helpful like the head of DEQ. read more

I started to register my vehicle with the dmv through mail in may. They have since cashed my check and not done a thing with my paperwork. I call and they drop my calls it is impossible to email them as well. Worst dmv ever! read more

Let me pause for a second and gawk at the bureaucratic inefficiency that is the Oregon DMV........ But it seems that this location has tried to streamline the DMV process so we are not there for hours (tho I was there for HOURS to take a driver's license test). First when you walk in you are greeted by a super "chipper" lady that asks you what you are there for, then she either gives you a number or a pass. She also will give you the necessary forms to fill out. Then you sit and fill out the form and wait for your number if you have one. I think this process is a lot better than other State DMV of grabbing your own number and just sit there and wait. Honestly, because I was there for hours, I am very reluctant to give them a good review. They had 1 person working the front while 2 person working the number tickets, 1 person working driver's test and another working on the written test system. I wish they had more people working since they had 6 open counters and only 2 has someone working at it. To me it just doesn't make sense, but I guess that is part of the government bureaucracy and inefficiency that everyone complains about. read more
