This particular rest stop in Baker Valley has a gorgeous view of the valley just before the start of the Blue Mountains. Much of it is still rural farmland, you can't help but look out and think about the pioneers that passed through and eventually settled this land. Amazing! I also like that Oregon has put in mini museums or interpretive stands at many of the rest stops. The one here has pictures and stories about the pioneers that came west on the Oregon Trail wagon trains. Very interesting to read and learn more about the area. Amenities wise: this rest stop has all the standard things you'd expect: bathrooms, water, vending machines with snacks, picnic tables, etc. We've stopped here several times over the years and generally find everything clean and in good working order.

There are no services but I'm self contained in the van. Once the sun set, the stars came out and my night vision settled in, it was amazing. So very quiet out here and with absolutely no light pollution, I could see millions and millions of stars. Other than some noise of a truck or two in the night passing by, there was no noise. There might have been a police patrol, but I was sound asleep. And because it's Idaho, I was able to take my firearm out of its locked box and have it nearby just in case. Overall, it wasn't a bad place to stay. The setup was good, the beds were comfortable, and it…read moreworked for what we needed at the time. But there were definitely some downsides. The coffee tasted really watered down and weak not great if you actually need coffee to wake up in the morning. The biggest issue though was the water. The tap water left this really slippery, almost slimy feeling on your hands and skin that I could never get used to. We stayed there for 3 weeks, so it definitely wasn't a one-time thing. It actually got bad enough that I slipped getting out of the bathtub and hurt my wrist. My wrist was messed up for about 2 weeks afterward. When we mentioned it, they told us they had recently softened the water again, which explained a lot. Another thing people should know: if you prepay and end up needing to leave early, you may not get that prepaid money back. That was frustrating and something I wish we had known upfront. Not the worst place by any means, but definitely had some drawbacks especially for longer stays.

With this place you get a little more than you pay for compared to costs in other hotels nowadays which is nice. I don't think I'd bring my kids here with me to stay but for just me and my husband, we'd definitely stay for 2/3 nights again for a clean/comfortable hotel room that doesn't brake the bank.
