Service was superb, had the most attentive waiter and he was kind enough to box up our food when we were finished. The food was fresh and well presented, and the waiter was very attentive. The dinner entrées come in huge portions, so you definitely get your money's worth. We tried the egg drop soup and the hot and sour soup--both were flavorful, but the hot and sour soup is a must-try. It has a nice spicy, peppery kick. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the General Tso's chicken was delicious. The restaurant offers plenty of seating, has a nice Asian-inspired decor, and everything was neat and clean. Highly recommend--this will definitely be my go-to spot whenever I visit the RTP area! read more

This used to be our favorite place to go for Chinese food for years and years. When things started reopening after covid and they didn't, we wondered if they ever would. Thankfully they did recently so we couldn't wait to get over there. The soup isn't on the menu, but they said they hope to add it back soon. We ordered our usual, chicken and veggies, but it seemed off. It just wasn't as good as we remembered, even tho we've been getting take out all through and after covid. When we recently found out they have a new owner that might explain it. So sad I've been sleeping on Orient since I moved to this area months ago. I would always see a line of people in front of the window and I just thought it was because they hadn't started in person dining yet. No, well, maybe some was due to that, but most was due to the amazing food. Immediately upon walking in I was told to order the general tso chicken. However, I went with the broccoli and chicken, which I was told was also good. I got a side of fried rice and was excited upon opening my food. The dish had tons of chunks of chicken, broccoli, and carrots--literally I haven't seen pieces of carrots so big in my life. Similar to other reviews the food is good, but could use some additional seasoning. I decided to add red pepper and garlic when I got home and this really popped it up and gave it so more flavor-if they could do this in their kitchen it would make it even better! The service is also great and quick as well! Be prepared for two to three meals as they give you tons of food for a pretty good price. And now that I know I have a good Chinese fusion spot near me I will be checking them out more often. read more

Disappointing. I don't like spicy food. I ordered the Chicken with Black Bean Sauce, a dish that isn't typically spicy and wasn't listed as spicy on the Orient Garden menu. It was so hot I couldn't eat it. I tried to pick the red pepper flakes out, but that didn't help. The food looked good and fresh, and there was a nice selection of veggies, but I paid $16 for food I couldnt eat. We won't order from here again. read more

I've been doing the Asian food thing since agreeing to do the Daniel's fast with my church. Orient Garden has always been my favorite, and I even forgot to order white meat only, but it didn't matter because it was mostly white meat. The food is always on point and it's so much for the value. You pay a couple dollars extra but you get twice as much. There is no actual service because it's a storefront opportunity. You can't eat in the restaurant, but when you could, they were always attentive. I do miss being able to sit down at their spot, but I understand that they are so busy as a to-go spot that they can't handle in store service. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, but you only interact for a few minutes. I wanted Mongolian beef, too- but with the fast approaching, I couldn't do it all. 100% the best spot in Durham. read more

How can anyone not rate this place 5 stars?! This is the BEST Chinese takeout in the area. I dream about the General Tsos chicken. This is the only takeout chicken I've had that actually tastes better the next day. The fried is also great. Tonight we had a garlic broccoli which I didn't love. My only complaint is that I can't get it delivered, but I'd rather drive to pick it up than get delivery from somewhere else. read more

Located in the shopping center next to Harris Teeter. Easy parking. Good customer service. Depending on when you call, they may be booked and busy! The sesame chicken is divine!! By far one of our favorite menu items. I also love the shrimp fried rice with extra egg and pork egg rolls. The restaurant is small and cluttered. They recently opened the inside up to the public but I'm not sure if you can dine in. Regardless, it's my go to for takeout Chinese. We've been searching South Durham for a good Chinese restaurant for years. This one is definitely the best we have come across. Currently, they are not open for indoor dining. They have a great setup for takeout so you don't even need to go inside! They also have paid attention to small sanitary details like having a dirty pen bin so you are only picking out a clean one. The portions were huge! We ordered two combination dinners and we probably could have shared one! The combination dinners come with your choice of soup, egg/spring roll and white/fried rice. The hot and sour soup was nice and spicy! The spring roll was also great. By the time I got through the soup and spring roll I was already getting full! I had Kung Pao Chicken as my main dish and made sure to ask for white meat. It was yummy and I had leftovers for days! read more

Tl;dr: there's a reason they're always busy-- it's that good! I love Chinese food and I love American-Chinese food. Yes there's a difference! This place has VERY good American-Chinese food (that's all we've tried so far) and it shows bc they are always busy. We ordered their chicken wing appetizer, sesame chicken and Lo Mein. The chicken wings were breaded and fried but the wings tasted like they were well seasoned and marinated before being bartered and fried. Their fry batter was also perfect because it yielded perfectly crispy coating that isn't bready or oil-soaked. The sesame chicken was perfect. The bite sized morsels were crispy but held onto the thick sauce very well. There is enough bite to each piece that you can tell it was cut from chicken thighs which make all the difference in chicken dishes. The lo mein was very tasty but simple! this was just not right! I ordered Mongolian triple delight. It came with only chicken and it looked and tasted like a very bland triple delight not MONGOLIAN! As far as American Chinese places go, this one executes really well! Especially on the meat -- the quality of the meat in every dish is really, really good. It's actually a sit-down and take out only Chinese place with very nice atmosphere, tables, and murals, and has friendly counter staff. Our favorites are the General Tso's chicken, Sha Cha anything, and beef lo mein. The General Tso's is well prepared and crispy every time. I'd say this is a very solid step above food court Chinese, and a good place to live near. That said, don't make the mistake of ordering anything authentic like Mapo Tofu like I did. You'll be very dissappointed. Also for some reason the dumplings are really bad and doughy -- definitely avoid. Everything else though -- super yummy! read more

No frills, ok, but really bad lowest quality, General Tsos Chicken? and $14 I ordered it at the window, thought to ask after I ordered--is it white meat chicken . She emphatically said NO. I thought that was odd and then she said, we can make it with white meat. So I went through with the order. The chicken pieces mostly on the small side ,heavily battered and sauced, but the worst worst part was the chicken itself was tough stringy measely pieces and clearly not fresh. I have lived in NYC, Hawaii and Florida and never have I had such a audaciously bad dish at even the most no frills hole in the wall to a more elaborate Chinese restaurant. Weirdly they have a huge sign--above the window stating "The Best General Tso's Chicken for 25 years! " Impossible and again very Audacious to make such a claim. read more

Excellent service during the shutdown. I recently placed an order for takeout for my wife and myself, and at the current moment with so many places doing takeout only it can be a bit of a gamble on what the situation will be when picking up food. Outside of not being able to pay for the order over the phone, it was a great experience. They are currently not allowing people into the restaurant, they have you pay for goods at the door where they've created a plexiglass protector for the cashier who then hands the orders through a side opening. You can call ahead or walk up and place an order and wait.  We got a few different items, all were good but the absolute standout was the orange chicken. It was possibly the best orange chicken I ever had. Cooked and fried to perfect with the right amount of spicy and sweet. It was absolutely delicious and ranks among the best orange chicken I've ever had. We also ordered the beef lo mein, garlic shrimp and vegetables, hot and sour soup and egg drop/wonton soup. Each dish was very good, but the orange chicken set an incredibly high bar for comparison. The portions and prices were very affordable and actually slightly cheaper than other places we've tried recently. Their turn around time after placing an order over the phone for dinner on saturday was very quick. This was my first time ordering from Orient Garden and I can't wait to go back and try other dishes. Highest recommendation. read more

This place was amazing! The orange peel chicken was the best thing I've ever tasted in my life! My husband ordered it but I ended up eating most of it! I also loved the beef lo mein- the noodles weren't too greasy, just the perfect amount, with an amazing flavor. The shrimp with garlic sauce was good, tasted light and healthy.
