I just can't believe all these good reviews after I went to Peony for lunch about 1 pm on Thursday. There was not another soul in the restaurant save two employees. I ordered poke. It was mostly rice mixed with sad iceberg lettuce ( mixed greens ) and the toppings were skimpy. For $18 this was disappointing. It was supposed to have three proteins. I added radish, crunchy onion and edamame. It was sad. In addition to the toppings I ordered there was a bunch of ginger and a marble-sized glob of wasabi hiding in the mix. Glad I avoided being surprised by that. I took the photo after I'd eaten so you can see how much rice was still in the bowl. The waiter was super sweet. He'd do better at another job. I'll stick to Zen Fish. There everything is fresh and vibrant and the choices are more exciting. Plus, their mixed greens are actually 'mixed greens'. read more

I really wanted to like this place but there were too many things working against it during our visit, even though I had a gift certificate. First of all, the AC was not working on the night we visited so things did not get off to a great start. It was warm in the dining area. The lighting was dark (maybe to not add to the heat). We enjoyed our Thai ice teas and seaweed salad appetizer but found our entrees (angel hair special and marine couple) just okay -- nothing special. The scallops in the marine couple were pretty tasteless. The owner came by and chatted with us a little bit, which is always nice. We've had tastier food at other local Asian restaurants so we'll probably pass on coming back soon. We wish them well. read more

I have been a customer of Peony Asian Bistro for nearly 20 years. Over that time, I've seen the restaurant change hands through multiple owners and management teams. We loved it so much that we even held our small wedding rehearsal dinner there in 2019. It truly was a special place for us. Unfortunately, over the past several years, we've watched it gradually decline. We went from being weekly regulars to only stopping in occasionally, hoping each time that things would turn around. During COVID, we ordered takeout frequently. The plastic divider and no-contact setup were completely understandable at the time. When indoor dining reopened, we returned, trying to be supportive. However, there was no heat (only a space heater pointed down the aisle), the tables were permanently sticky, and the strong odor of the cleaning solution was overwhelming. We told ourselves it was just growing pains under difficult circumstances. But time has passed. Businesses have been fully open for years now, yet the same aging plastic divider remains--broken and falling apart. The tables in front of the counter are still there. It has now been about a year since my last visit. Today, while nearby, I decided to order takeout--something I used to do weekly. I ordered my usual: two rolls and a Kani salad. When I arrived, I was honestly shocked. One of the front doors was boarded up with black duct tape. The faded window signs were still there, now partially covered with the same tape blocking out the long-standing "2 for 1 sushi rolls" promotion. I hesitated before even going inside, questioning whether I should pick up my order at all. Walking in was heartbreaking. The restaurant I once loved felt so far gone. The same plastic divider stood in worse condition. The tables in front were cluttered and dirty. The B sanitation rating was slipping out of a broken frame on the wall. I actually called my husband because I was so disappointed. I found myself wondering whether I should even eat the food I had just purchased. I decided to try. Unfortunately, it only added to my concern. The chopsticks were such poor quality that I got three splinters trying to use them. The Crunchy Shrimp Roll was gummy and unpleasant in flavor. The Kani salad, once bright and fresh, looked tired and overworked and didn't taste right. The Cream Cheese Shrimp Roll was just okay at best--the only item I was able to finish. After eating, I felt a bit queasy. I sincerely hope it's psychological and not the result of the food itself. It truly saddens me to write this. This restaurant holds meaningful memories for my family. I kept hoping it would return to what it once was, but sadly, it seems too far gone. read more

We stopped by for dinner on a Wed night. It was around 6-6:30. There were maybe 6 people eating in. There seemed to be lots of take out. The inside dining space was very dimly lit. Hubby wanted sushi. They have BOGOF. I did not find the sushi to be very good. We got spicy shrimp rolls and I couldn't find either the shrimp or the spice. The crab Rangoon appetizer was a winner. We also got a chicken pad Thai to split. Also not so good. Too sweet and not spicy enough. Even though I ordered chicken, I found more tofu in the dish than chicken. In my opinion, the menu is too big. Make it smaller and prepare those dishes really well. We may try again - but I really doubt it. read more

I was craving sushi and decided to YELP, of course. This place came up and decided to give it a try. Once arriving it is located in a strip mall. Plenty of parking, I was very skeptical looking at the business from the outside, but I trusted my YELP reviews and decided to go ahead in, once entering, I was like OMG, what am I doing. lol Again trusted my YELP reviews. I was greeted promptly by a friendly waitress, seated immediately. Once seated I ordered a shrimp tempura sushi roll, wonton soup, and a sprite. The menu was overwhelming with choices, lots of sushi rolls to pick from, Hibachi, soups, appetizers, wine list. Once I got my sushi roll, it was very fresh and delicious! The soup was HOT, very tasty. The prices are very reasonable! Excellent service!!! Good portion sizes also, what I could see from other people's dinners. I HIGHLY recommend eating here!!!!!!! I came for lunch with a friend and left disappointed and hungry. I ordered the sashimi plate, my friend ordered a sushi plate. He was happy with his meal. I was disappointed with how stingy the chef was with the fish. The strips were very thin, and were presented on a large plate with nothing else on it so it looked like a barren wasteland. We placed a catering order with Peony for a work meeting for 14 people. We did it through EZ Cater. We are so pleased! Everything was correct, the food was labeled, everyone really enjoyed their selections. Peony even accommodated the special requests that were written in for a couple of the orders. Our order was ready promptly and they automatically included the extra sauces, condiments, crunchy toppings, utensils (including chopsticks), and threw in a couple complimentary half gallons of sweet tea. The staff was so nice, they helped me get everything into my car. We allowed our staff to choose between the Office Kitchen Lunch and the Office Sushi Lunch - the prices are seriously affordable for such good food and for the generous portion sizes. Our all-in price per person was under $15/pp (that's with food, taxes, tip). We will definitely order from here again and highly recommend it! read more

Back to Peony. Five star. This time we shared some sushi (nigiri). It was as fresh as possible and high grade. We will probably go back more often because of this sushi experience. We also ate a shrimp tempura appetizer that had an unusual breading to us. The serving was ample and cooked just right. We knew to split it from prior experience with portion sizes. Also split an order of General Tso's chicken, again very ample portions, so we had boxes to take home.The chicken was not greasy. Service of the meal was well timed; not too much waiting. The only annoyance, though not a huge problem was the waiting time for our check. The server was chatting with other customers and not seeing that we were wanting to leave. Came here tonight for the first time for dinner. The restaurant was very quiet and had some nice decor on the walls. I ordered the sushi regular dinner and my friend got two of their BOGO rolls. The rolls were presented beautifully! They came out on wooden platters which I had never seen before. The waiters were friendly and the meal didn't take that long to come out. My only complaint is that the restaurant was very very cold, which made the experience slightly less enjoyable - especially since it was a very cold and rainy day. read more

We came here for dinner last Saturday night around 8:30pm. Even though we were the last to leave, we had fantastic service and did not feel rushed at all. The waiter was so attentive. The chicken was soft, flavorful and decadent. The onions and peppers veggie medley was cooked perfectly. They ended up just pouring soy sauce over my white rice and called it fried rice :-(. Food doesn't taste fresh. Even the unsweetened tea was weak - UGH! Terrible take-out experience on December 25 - pure chaos on the ground. Before reading further, it's not OK to just write off the experience because of the date. They were clearly overwhelmed by demand - probably because they accept all online orders without regard to how quick they can fill orders. Our 20 minute order took an hour. When asked, they could not give any estimate on timing; worse, they only responded in person when told we be OK with cancelling the order if they could not fill it in a reasonable amount of time. This happened with several customers in line ahead of us as well. The food was generally meh. On the plus, the chicken wings and the shrimp lo mein and shrimp/broccoli were OK, but the scallion pancake was a greasy mess, and the chow fun was a gloppy undercooked mess. We have been going to Peony regularly since it opened many many years ago. So, very disappointing. read more

The food is good, not great, but the prices have doubled over the past couple of years. I understand about supply chain issues but an avocado roll is $11. Most places they are $7ish. When their avocado roll was $5 it was great. Now that it's $11 it's barely good. But my autistic 12 year old loves it and so we shall keep returning.
