We arrived at opening time and was greeted and seated immediately. Tea was provided fairly quickly as well despite them still opening up. We ordered a number of dishes from the menu as the dim sum carts did not start coming around until 11:40. Food came out within 10minutes and it was decent. The taste was a little off - the honeycomb was a bit gamey, the soy sauce for the rice rolls were on the sweet side, etc. but it wasn't bad. Came here on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed (parking lot and inside). Wait time was ~30-45min. Service: 2/5 they tried, but understaffed. We sat in the room at the back which did not have anybody rolling in with a dim sum cart, ask us what we want, or give us a menu. We had to go to the front and place orders for dim sum or hail down a waiter. Gave us plastic plates and disposable chopsticks because of the backlog. Mid-way, they came back to replace them with actual plates. Food: 4/5. Food was fairly decent or a little above average. Overall, giving a 4/5 because it is still a Soft Opening (assuming not fully staffed and equipped). Currently, has room to improve in staffing and management. Otherwise, I'll give it a 3/5. I was very pleased with Orient Garden for excellent quality food and service. We did come at 4pm on a weekday so we were the only people there. But sadly, no more dimsum cart as those are only out til 3pm. It is a bit pricey but is worth the price for the quality delivered. Visited on a weekend this time and didn't have to wait long for a table for 4. Definitely more food available and a few special dishes like baked roast pork bun and durian pastry that we were able to get since those are not available during the weekdays. Every time I go to (any) dim sum, I always get the chiu chow fun guo (dumpling) and lo bak go (turnip cake) but their quality control here needs better work. Sometimes they make the skin perfectly on the dumpling, other times it's too thick. Sometimes the lo bak go is cut up too thick and when pan fried, the center isn't warm enough (it's not fridge cold by any means). Sometimes it is fried well, other times it isn't. The setup was very nice, multiple tables for different size parties. We were a party of 4 celebrating my son's birthday. We were seated promptly at a nice spacious table with room for 6. The person who took our food and drink orders never told us his name or brought us water, we asked for more of the wontons that he also never brought. A different person brought our drinks to us. They were delicious. Our appetizers were very good. And all of our entrees were delicious even though they came at different times, not all together. I passed by on my way home and was really exhausted and hungry. I got excited when I saw the name Orient Garden. So I pulled into the lot. I felt for certain. This was likely connected to one of my 2 fav Chinese restaurants in Nassau Co. One is the Orient in Bethpage, and it is always delicious, and the owner, Tommy, and his wife and son, take such good care of us. Tommy and his fsmily atbone time owned a 2nd restaurant in plainvoew jcalled Orient Odyssey, which is why I thought a restaurant with the name Orient Garden was likely theirs, and that it would be great too. Well, it was not to be theirs or great. No affiliation. It's just confusion. We've been eating at the Orient in Bethpage for close to 3 decades. It is truly excellent, and especially fun on the weekends when they have Hong Kong style steam carts for brunch elservice of dumplings. Orient Garden was bright and well lit, clean as a whistle, and the service was very good. The wonton soup was good, with nice thin wonton skins and tasty soup broth, but the soup was a very small portion compared to the norm. The egg roll was not crispy, and it seemed to be filled with only cabbage. No proteins, like shrimp or pork, were discernable. It wasn't very tasty, even after trying to doctor it up with sauces. Everything I had thought I might like to have in a Cantonese restaurant was not on the menu. Each thing I tried to order was not offered. Oh, and I note that that the online menu for the restaurant, for deliveries from one of the delivery services, I forget which, like Door Dash or Grub Hub, had a much larger menu of offerings from the restaurant. I had looked at it before I decided to go in, and reading it was the final thing that made me decide to take the plunge. I was very disappointed that most of the items I wanted to try turned out not to be offered. I figured I would have something else and just make the best of it. In the end, I had Tangerine Beef, which was actually quite good. The meat was tender, and the breading or skin was crispy. It was a well prepared dish, but i have had it in many places, and I note that it barely any Tangerine skin or hot peppers in the dish, and that it was a little on the too sweet side, so I cut the sweetness with rice. Not withstanding all that, I did enjoy it, but it us better elsewhere. It is very unlikely that I would go back there, but you know the expression "never say never." Others who enjoy their menu items might give it a try. It's definitely worth trying it to see if it fits your taste buds and expectations. read more

We're so excited for an authentic Cantonese restaurant in Long Island!! We've been to the chinese American take out shops and a few nicer Szechuan places in LI. But now if we're craving dim sum or canto food we can head to Orient Garden, which opened fall 2023. We enjoyed the dim sum - everything tasted fresh and came out of the cart hot! For $50 we had a beef rice roll, tripe, big pork dumplings, chicken feet (5 whole feet!), radish cake, clear shrimp dumplings, and one yangchou fried rice. Their hot sauce is so good. I'd love to go back and try their canto dishes for dinner next time. One table's sweet and sour pork chops looked really good. The atmosphere is nice and spacious, bathroom already looks old? waiters were ok, not so attentive but prompt when you flag them down. Wish the carts came around more frequently when we got there (we were hangry lol) but they eventually came around a few times while we ate. I'm giving orient garden a solid 3 out of 5 so far based mainly off of our order of dim sum. Let me start off by saying that I am glad to see a dim sum spot so close to home without having to trek back out to queens. Word has already gotten out about this new spot because it was packed with a line out the door on a Saturday morning around 10:30am when the restaurant only opened at 10am. I had ordered dim sum for takeout around 10am opening and it was luckily ready by 10:30am when I arrived. Parking was tough because of the popularity although they do have a front and back parking lot. Layout for the restaurant seemed pretty spacious with plenty of small tables as well as a side for larger parties as well. Now onto the food. We ordered some main staples such as the ha gao and shu mai which tasted great. The shrimp rice rolls were also good because the shrimp was firm and the wrapping from the rice rolls was generous which we enjoyed. The sticky rice with chicken wrapped in lotus leaves was also pretty good. The vegeterian bean curd with veggie dish was also tasty. Onto the negative dishes that we did not enjoy as much. Unfortunately the beef rice roll tasted quite different than many other dim sum spots we're used to, but not in a good way. The marinade and flavoring of the meat was just not good. We ordered the beef balls as well and although the flavor was there, the texture was so chewy and dense that I almost felt like I wanted to throw it against the wall to see how high it would bounce. I'm hoping that with a few more months, I can return and update my review once they get the kinks out. I will return for dinner one day to try since they specialize in Cantonese dinner entrees. For now, I would say let the hype die down first, then maybe you'll get a little more quality with the dim sum. read more

The place was clean and attractive, a definate step up from the diner it had once been. While we waited to be seated (we came in the afternoon), we saw people enjoying the regular menu. The food looked delicious, but we had come for the dim sum. Service was a bit slow, but they're still feeling their way. There were some items that my husband can't eat, so when we asked what was in some of the dishes (descriptions need to be a bit more specific), the wait staff didn't quite undertand (We'd ask for no shrimp and then they'd offer us an item with shrimp.) We just had to make a bit more of an effort on our end. No big deal. Food was delicious and reasonable. My only major complaint was an odd, oily smell, like diesel fuel, that seemed to linger in the air. I may wait a while before going back only because of that. We had a very pleasant first time dining experience here. We were a party of 3 adults and 4 teens on a Sunday evening. We ordered 5 main dishes and some apps. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. On top of this, all of the staff were kind, friendly and accommodating. We accidentally stayed a half hour past closing and there wasn't a hint from anyone that they were in a rush to close up. They surprised us with a small dessert on the house as well. Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. Expect the large, fat, fried noodles with duck sauce (ask for the mustard too ), peanuts and tea at your table. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Food portions are generous, hot and delicious. General Tso's chicken was fantastic and crispy, not soft and mushy like other places. Drinks are well made and generous (try the Asia Mist). Waiter spilled a drop, brought a filled shot glass to make up for it (totally wasn't necessary but that's how well they treat you). Dimsum service was a mess. Not all dimsum items were avaiable right away and I was not able to order everything I wanted. Items ended up coming out late, actually after I paid my bill, all the good items started to come out which was frustrating to say the least. There was only 1 big car rolling around with the same items inside of it.. The layout of the restaurant is an old diner so the diner design was left unchanged which in my opinion, does not work well for an Asian restaurant! The house tea I was served was also lukewarm at best which is another disappointment. I did order Beef Chowfun from the regular menu & it was excellent. Waitstaff seemed backlogged and stressed. I know they are still in soft opening stage but I hope management sees this review and make some serious changes.
