We just tried Orient Pearl for the first time. Most of our party had the lunch buffet. The food was ok. Our server was pleasant at first and refilled our drinks after being asked to do so. The rest of the meal we served ourselves because of the buffet. When we paid the bill, I left just under 15% tip. He stepped a few feet from our table and counted the cash and then gave me a disgusted look. I asked him if there was a problem. He laid the check on the table and counted out the money to cover the check. He then laid out the money I left for the tip and indicated that he wasn't pleased. Researched just about every Chinese or Japanese Restaurant within a 10 mile radius of where I was. This one had rave reviews. I checked with a friend who lives nearby and she gave me everything I needed to know: The food was fresh, the service was great, and the restaurant was very clean! I husband and I ordered off of the lunch menu and we were not disappointed. We plan on ordering takeout from there for our New Year's Eve celebration. If you're looking to get away from the traditional Chinese food menu where things are saturated, starchy, heavily breaded and full of MSG...then this is the place for you to try. Always delicious! We get a craving about once per month for Chinese & this is our go-to. The only negative experience we've had in the last 10 years was this past New Years Eve & the takeout craziness that ensued. We expected a longish wait but when we arrived at the time we were told... line out in the cold down the entire building. I wanted to forget the whole thing, husband thought maybe it wont be as bad as it looks. It wasn't, he was right. In all, we got our food & left 45 minutes later. The experience does not detour us, we still love the food & understand holidays can be a crazy time. Just wish they would come up with a better system instead of people cramming inside & them just yelling out random order & phone numbers. The #'s they called out could have been the people hundreds of feet down the line. Service was horrible. Food was even worse. It was so unappetizing that we didn't take more than two bites. My husband found plastic in his sushi. When we told the waitress she replied "it's not my fault." Never did we say it was her fault, we just wanted at least one of the sushi rolls off the bill since we barely ate it. 0/10 do not recommend. read more

I have eaten here 3 times. I originally found this place by buying a Living Social coupon. We had good food each time. The service is typical of a lot of Chinese Restaurants (It usually seems that Chinese Restaurants want customers in and out of those seats quickly regardless if you want to relax, dine and talk). Wife and I love this place. We order the sushi most of the time but the kids love the regular Chinese food. The afternoon buffets are ok, but I prefer the Japanese menu. There are plenty of great mixed drinks on the menu and plenty that you should stop drinking after the first one if you are planning on driving. Definitely a shining star in Epping. read more

The hot and sour seafood soup was ok but needed a bit more flavor. The miso soup is always good. Food was Ok. When we got there the host greeted us very promptly and asked is we wanted buffet. I had no idea there was a weekend buffet. However the host asked about it so quickly I thought I was still saying yes to we had 3 in our party and somehow ended up with three buffet check. I had to ask for a menu as I wasn't sure I really wanted a buffet. Looking at the 1/2 dozen lunch special combinations really wasn't exciting. I asked how much the buffet was and was told. 8.50$. one of the more inexpensive Asian style buffets that I have been to so kudos there. We all ended up getting the buffet. The food was Ok.. seriously was great and wasn't bad. The service was attentive but in a weird overly attentive way.. kind of like the way a shark circles in the water. The atmosphere and decor was brighter than most. The staff was friendly but everything somehow felt cheap. From the paper thin napkins to the soy sauce and other condiments being kept up by the buffet. Hard to explain but hardly unnoticeable. Would I go there again... I suppose if I'm hungry and want a cheaper Chinese buffet option then perhaps. Baring those circumstances I'd rather go elsewhere. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for about the past 2 years as it was the only decent sit down Chinese/ Japanese place around. In the beginning, it was a wonderful experience with delicious food. But over time it has significantly gotten worse, particularly because of 2 terrible experiences I've had there in the past year. The first bad experience I've had at this place was with an extremely rude waiter. It was early evening, and a friend and I stopped in to split a scorpion bowl and some dumplings. After the waiter delivered our order he asked if we were going to order anything else. We politely declined and he seemed upset, stating that people who order only two things should be sitting at the bar and not at a table. It was awkward, as if he expected us to pick up our food and walk over to the bar. He then told us that he "need at least a $10 tip" and our order wouldn't provide that for him. I apologized awkwardly and he went away. We enjoyed our drink and dumplings and then asked for the check. I gave my card and he returned the slip for me to sign. I left a $2 tip for the $20 bill we received because all he did was bring our drink and dumplings over and complain about us being there. Before we left, he noticed the tip I signed for and HAD THE NERVE to come over and ASK ME TO CHANGE IT. I told him I left him $2 because he was very rude to us and left. Low and behold a few days later I was charged for a $7 tip on that $20 bill. I was out of state for the week when the charge came through and didn't keep the receipt. The second experience was this past Valentines day (2014.) I had made a reservation a few days earlier for 8:45 in order to make sure that there would be a booth available for our dinner when we both got out of work. When we arrived at 8:45 I told the hostess that I had a reservation. She looked at me and said "Yeah... there's no reservations anymore." It was clear they were slammed, but that's exactly why I made the reservation. Then she sat us at the table closest to the kitchen / waitstaff's computer when we walked by other open booths and tables. There were receipts and chicken bones littering the floor and the waitstaff was clearly over-worked running around like crazy. It was hardly romantic. On top of that, the sushi we ordered was sub-par and the scorpion bowl tasted like it was only juice. I should have learned my lesson and stayed away from this place. Unlike another reviewer we have tried a lot of Sushi from many different establishments. We were very disappointed. Given the choices for sushi in the area this place ranks last. The spicy tuna wasn't (spicy). We tried the Volcano roll it had white tuna (??) what is white tuna. Tuna isn't white and this certainly wasn't tuna maybe fluke or skate. The only reason they didn't get 1 star was because the fish was fresh and they were nice to my wife. So if you want nice service check them out. Otherwise don't bother. read more

We came home from this place for the VERY last time, my hope is that it goes OUT OF BUSINESS soon because it was terrible!! We were a party of six and sat at one of the round tables in the rear, we chose the larger table as service plates take up a lot of room. The manager/owner came over and promptly moved us to the smaller table, where we proceeded to have dinner on a very crowded table with just inches between dinner and service plates! The waitress was very impatient and a bit rude! The food was tasteless and not fresh tasting at all! We asked to see the manager and she never came over, walked by and looked at us like we all had six heads! Totally rude and should not be in customer service business!! DO NOT SUPPORT this restaurant unless you are prepared to be disappointed!! read more

Having been there about seven or eight times, the last two visits turned me off to the place. I pass three fairly good Chinese restaurants to get to this one because it was worth it (key word WAS). Two visits ago, I was there with my wife and two friends. We ordered appetizers and the main dishes at the same time. I shouldn't have had to tell the waiter to bring the appetizers out first. Yep....it all came out together. On the last visit (key word LAST), My wife and I ordered PuPu for two and it came out on a cold dinner platter, instead of a proper PuPu tray with sterno fire. When I mentioned my disappointment to the waiter, all he said (I think) was that the trays were all being used. This is not my problem. There was no apologetic discount or offer to make it right in any way, so we took most of the now cold food home. The owner does not know how to handle an unsatisfied customer, so he will not get another chance from me. read more

Love this place! I've ordered from there at least 4 times and I haven't been disappointed at all. The prices aren't too bad, especially if you go during the lunch specials. Who would have guessed that there would be such a great sushi and sashimi restaurant in Epping, of all places? It was awesome!

We have been to Orient Pearl about six times in the past two months. From the day we discovered it, we have been hooked! The ambiance is not your typical oriental restaurant. This is open and airy. It is very well ventilated, which goes a long way in my book. You do not smell food cooking while you are waiting. You are also not seated right on top of anybody else. There are booths, tables, and a sushi bar. It is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Our 7 year old daughter loves ordering fruity drinks to see what they do to embellish them. Umbrellas and fruit combinations on colorful swords...that kind of thing. It makes her feel special, and it's fun to watch her. My husband always orders the deluxe sushi platter. He has eaten sushi in many upscale restaurants in bigger cities, and he says Orient Pearl has the best, no contest. He loves being able to order both Chinese and Japanese dishes in one place. He said the Hot and Sour Soup is also the best he has ever had. We usually get a selection of appetizers and noodles and main dishes. We have never been disappointed by anything there. The Lo Mein is made to order. The PuPu Platter for Two is enough to feed at least SIX...and all delicious. The chicken fingers are addictive. I usually get the Honey Walnut Chicken, which is absolutely delightful. I've never tasted anything like it. The chicken is perfectly tender, and the walnut adds just the right flavor to to the dish. The way they present their food is fancy and beautiful, and different almost every time. My Walnut Chicken came served in a bowl made of lettuce once, with radish decorations around it. It's always different, and always gorgeous. The people at Orient Pearl take great pride in their work. The service is always great. The servers check in at just the right frequency -- they stay on top of things without being annoying. Dinner always ends with a small platter of fruit and fortune cookies. And even their fortune cookies are better than the ones at other restaurants. Always fresh. From start to finish, Orient Pearl is wonderful. Don't even think about it -- just go there and have a great meal. read more

We have gotten take out here several times. On New Years, every year you have to wait HOURS to get your food. Then they are very unorganized. The food is always cold and even on a regular night I wouldn't say the food was any better. We went one Saturday to eat and the buffet was empty with a hour left of time to eat off the buffet and they wouldn't add food to it and we had to order off the regular menu. Their food doesn't have a good taste. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! This will be the first New Year's Eve we are not wasting our time ordering from here. read more

We found this place by accident. We were hungry, driving through the area, and decided to give it a try, as we enjoy Asian food. We ordered a maki combination. Can we simply say "sublime?" Yes, sublime. The seafood salad we had as an appetizer was perfect, a bit spicy, and couldn't have been better. The miso soup was also just right, something we always look for as a sign of quality. The maki rolls! Fantastic! It would be a long drive for us, but we would definitely go again. read more

We have lived in Epping for over a year now and i pass this place twice a day on 125 and didn't know it even existed. Decided to go to sushi and Google says this has it, no mention on its quality. Drinks are strong and came out SLOW, even the tea took 15 minutes to be served. Service is pretty slow on a Saturday night with the restaurant at about 70% capacity. They serve sushi, but you can't order Green Tea (dafq?!). Duck sauce is very good. Egg Rolls taste like frozen, but weren't horrible. Food came out at different times (5+ minutes between the Vegetable LoMain and my Sushi deluxe platter). The sushi was OK, not great. Not even really good, considering they are less than 15 miles from the ocean and the quality of sushi at other places in the area (for the same price or less) is /much/ better. Again with the service issue, the $64 bill came without any of the same fruit served to others at nearby tables, not even cheap fortune cookies served at the cheapest takeout Chinese places close by. Overall, not horrible, but I won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

Don't come late for the buffet. Probably the worst I have ever had. We arrived at 1:15 buffet closes at 2pm. It was mostly picked through.

We ordered take out last night and were impressed. It's so hard to find decent Chinese food in these parts. We had the General Tsao's chicken - excellent! Nice dark and flavorful sauce, and real, actual, fresh veggies. The pork fried rice was also very good, as were the beef teriyaki and egg rolls. We had a good amount left over as well. This food tasted very "clean" and we didn't feel sick after eating it. It's a close second to one of our favorite places for Chinese, The Lilac Blossom in Nashua. Will definitely be back! read more

This place has the best Chinese food in the area, by far. But don't plan on an enjoyable time sitting at the bar. Wilson, the bartender, is rude and has no personality. Before Wilson, on a friday night the bar would be standing room only and a fun place to go. Now, if you go in on a Friday night, you are lucky to see 6 people sitting at the bar. There is no doubt this is the result of the bartender. We have been, when somebody else is tending bar, and it is a breath of fresh air. Hopefully management sees this and brings in a new bartender to bring back the crowds. read more
