My boyfriend and I are new to Epping and we LOVE LOVE LOVE The Orient Pearl. The staff is very pleasant and always make conversation with us every time we are dining here! I haven't tried the lunch buffet, and I am not even sure they still offer that! But the sushi rolls, Chinese food, and drinks are always GREAT! We dine here at least once a week, if not more! Our favorite sushi roll is the Tiger roll! And I enjoy the fancy roll! We always share a Scorpion bowl and enjoy that (before the heartburn kicks in)! Haha! This place has gone way down hill since they opened. Went again for dinner last night for the last time ever. My daughter found a hair in her food, didn't make a huge deal about it and moved on. When our dinner came out the general gaos had ANOTHER hair. I was in the rest room and when I came out my daughter said she found her THIRD hair in the food. I didn't know she found another after the first one? Anyway, told the waitress who didn't believe us initially and then finally saw it when she lifted the plate into the light and my daughter had to lift the hair to show her. They came out with a "new dish" shortly after.. not hot. Sketchy. My biggest issue is I feel like I get more food on take out then when dining in. The Lomein portion was so small, couldn't picture it fitting in a to go box? I would just stay away from eating here if I were you. read more

This place had a very very good start, but ever since they had some internal staffing/mgt upset, they have been spiraling straight down into the tar-pits of restaurant hell! I only (as in ONLY) eat sushi in ANY Asian place. This place dropped ALL of their real Japanese Sushi Chefs. Shouldda known! Shoulda known it was coming, as they had Chinese guys learning from the Japanese professionals for three years. The sushi is shitty now. The clientele is smelly, moronic construction contractors who only order Chinese food. I tried this place for the first time on 7/18/2010 after reading bad reviews of another local Chinese restaurant. (China Jade) When I arrived at Orient Pearl, it was not what I expected. It was beautiful inside and very clean, the menu offered Japanese and Chinese options. After reviewing the menu, I chose the Chinese portion of the menu. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken among a few other items. About 10 minutes later my order was ready. Prices were very good. When I got home, food was still very hot and ready to eat. I tried a sampling of each of the pieces I ordered and was very disappointed. The quality of the food was just not great. It didn't match the the quality of the inside of the restaurant. I've honestly had better from takeout restaurants that just do takeout. My bar for high quality food is Wangs Table in Haverhill, by far the best Chinese I've had around here. But as far as Orient Pearl goes, the Chinese portions I tried I was very disappointed in. And not just one piece, all of it. The rice and lo-mein was just not very good. I hate to say it but the last 2 times I was here I got sick. The first time I thought it was a fluke. Had the sushi the second time and my friend and I were both sick. We come here at least 1 a month and enjoyed this place. I don't know what happened. Also I see very young children working with there parents. Which is fine but they let the child ( maybe 7) try to cash me out with my CC and she made a mistake and the manager had to come over and explain what happened. New Year's Eve was a nightmare . I got take out and ordered the dinner chicken tempura and genera sao's chicken. The chicken tempura was incredibly dry and flavorless, and the burps that followed all night were a nightmare. Epping's fourth Chinese restaurant is definitely its best. My wife, our two boys, and I went for lunch two weeks ago. The first thing we noticed as we walked in is that it is nice; this isn't Sun Loy's or a generic take-out joint. There's a nice dining area, a sushi bar, and a lounge area as well. The host and staff were welcoming and friendly, and very smartly attired. We decided on the buffet, which we enjoyed. It isn't the focus of the restaurant, and only available during lunch. It featured about a dozen selections, but I happen to believe that with buffets, smaller is usually better. (Fans of Szechuan Taste in Exeter know exactly what I'm talking about.) Even though we were early, arriving at just about noon on Saturday, the food was fresh and made with quality ingredients. There was a nice mix of spicy--their general gao's chicken is excellent--and mild, with some sushi selections as well. This week we tried their sushi take out for lunch. We went for broke, ordering the lovers' boat ($30) and a selection of rolls (tuna, California, and una-avocado). The presentation was fabulous and the boat was worth every cent, featuring a mixture of sushi, rolls, and sashimi. We are regulars at Orient Pearl in Epping, NH. The food is consistently good, and the service is phenomenal. Even on a Friday or a Saturday night, the wait is not too bad. The restaurant is clean and always looks great. The menu is your standard Chinese food menu, but they do everything very well. For appetizers, we always order the Crab Rangoon and the Fried Pork Dumplings. They are both delicious. We also ordered the Vegetable Lo Mien, and the General Tso's Chicken. The Lo Mien was full of fresh vegetables, and was seasoned well. The General Tso's Chicken was also very good. The drinks are pretty good, but a touch on the sweet side. The White Mai Tai is nice if you don't like your drinks too sweet. The service is the strength of this restaurant. The servers are very attentive, and also love to interact with the guests without going too far. We've had some of the best service we've ever had at this restaurant. This is definitely one of the best in the area for Chinese food. With good food and strong service, we will definitely return. read more

Have been a consistent customer here since it's opening. When it opened it was know for it's great sushi and strong drinks. Over the few years it has been opened the sushi and drinks have steadily declined in quality. Now, it's just another Chinese restaurant in Epping. It has no special hook to attract customers at this point. Portions are smaller than the competitors in the area and the prices are a little higher. The employees really don't interact with the customers - so you really feel that they are not in tune with their market or their customers. They need to stop and make immediate changes. They need to go back to offering stronger drinks (like when Kevin was behind the bar). They need real Japanese sushi chefs. They need to do it right. And, while we're talking changes - they need to get rid of the carpet throughout the restaurant. I don't know who made the decision to put carpet on the floor or a restaurant - but that's simply stupid. I would pull the carpet and stain and seal the concrete floors. Easy to clean and maintain and just looks better than stinky dingy carpet. Come on guys - let's get it right! read more

My girlfriend and I decided to have a Saturday lunch (really breakfast for us) here, based on the following facts: 1. We didn't feel like going to Portsmouth, 2. Folks here said it was pretty decent, and 3. We didn't feel like paying P-mouth prices for lunch. First the negatives: The staff seemed confused regarding who would be our server. I got the feeling that the man who ended up being our server kind of bullied out of the way the young girl who initially greeted us and took our drink orders. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seemed slightly tense between them. The fella that ended up being our server was slightly overzealous in his service. He was friendly, but took away a steamer basket (shumai app.) literally seconds after I had plucked the last dumpling from it. Now everyone's favorite: the positives =). We were quite pleased with our lunch selection today. The Orient Pearl is well appointed in decoration and well staffed even for a Saturday lunch. The interior designer chose clean, simple decorations and tables, which are all well spaced, leaving the restaurant feeling warm and cozy, without being too tight. We like to start with a warm appetizer when we have sushi, so we ordered Shumai (steamed shrimp dumplings). The dumplings were tasty, about the size of a California roll, and there were 6 in the basket. This is a good size for an appetizer, in my opinion. Too many restaurants feature appetizers that are really entrée sized plates to be shoveled down before the real entrée arrives. Suffice to say, it was a nice way to prep for the main course. We decided to order three different maki rolls, from the 3 price levels on the menu. From the lower priced makis we ordered the Idaho maki, a sweet potato tempura roll ($4). The middle priced roll was the Crazy maki, shrimp tempura, cucumber, avocado, and flying fish roe ($8). The higher end roll was a special, the "Red Sox roll", which was tuna and avocado on the outside, with lettuce, spicy mayo, and shrimp on the inside ($13). They came out on a large white platter which was decorated with drizzles of two sauces. The wasabi was whimsically crafted into a little tree with the help of a sprig of parsley. I will be the first to admit that my sushi palette is far from developed, as we only get to eat it once every couple of months. That being said, in my opinion, the sushi was fantastic. We were very happy with all three of our orders. The Idaho maki is simple, sweet and savory at once, and a great start to the plate. The Crazy maki was awesome, the tempura shrimp well fried and very clean tasting. I had difficulty discerning which piece I would eat last (save the best for last, I always say), and I decided that my last bite would be of the Red Sox maki, which was artfully rolled, fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. Other nice points: the soy is brought out in small white tea or cream servers, which were cute. The buffet looked good, was clean all around despite the number of people that were going up to it, and was obviously very popular. The service is very efficient. The menu is extensive, with many entrées on the Chinese side, and at least 25 or 30 sushi options on the Japanese side. In summation: we're big fans of the Orient Pearl, and we have already planned to go there for lunch again in the next couple of weeks. It looks like most of their business is on the buffet end of things, but I'm convinced that it's worth going to for sushi. Again, I'm not the greatest judge of sushi, but it was fresh and clean tasting, left us full, satisfied, and we didn't have to spend a lot of money. We could have saved a few bucks if we'd have bothered to even look at the lunch menu, but I'm happy with what we bought anyway. read more

Yes! Finally I've found great Chinese food in this area! After shopping at the very breathtaking Epping Walmart, it was time to get some food. I've passed this place many times over the past few years and finally gave it a try. I am so glad I did. The decor is very classy and comfortable. The food was fantastic and full of flavor. I had Kung Pao Chicken and it was delicious. My fiance had the California Roll and she loved it. We also had great service and everything came out fast. This place had been highly recommended to us. We did take out for our first visit and tried an assortment of dishes. Everything was really good and we were excited thinking we had finally found a good Chinese/Japanese place closer to home. Tonight my daughter and I decided to dine in. We ordered 2 rolls and a noodle dish. The service was pretty average and the food was good until my last bite of roll. There was something in the roll which I had to pick out of my mouth. It appeared very much like a finger nail!!! There were people seated right next to us and our server was no were to be found. Attempting not to make a huge scene, I quietly went up to the host table and showed the manager what I had found. She very loudly started shouting "finger nail, finger nail" and looking at my hands as though it was mine! Realizing I wasn't going to be able to actually speak with this person about what had just happened, I went back to the table. The server then came with our bill and quizzically said "I guess there was a problem? My manager took the eel avocado roll off the bill." As though this weren't all bad enough, my daughter then pointed out to me how sticky the outside of her glass was, particularly up by the top. A group of us ordered takeout on New Year's Eve. I know that it must get so busy on that night, but the order was placed DAYS before, and the people who went to pick it up had to wait an additional 45+ minutes to get the food. When we got the food, it was very bland and completely forgettable. I got vegetable lo mein which had no taste to it whatsoever. I had to add a ton of soy sauce to even get it to edible status. I've been to the Orient Pearl at least half a dozen times. I will keep going back because the service is GREAT and the food is fresh and tasty. While I haven't tried their sushi, I've had a variety of their traditional Chinese entrees. Everything was made to order. Their lunch buffet is really good, too. And, it's a great bargain. I bring the kids here on the weekends to fill up! The place is super clean, the atmosphere is nice. My only complaint is that the bathroom is about 20 degrees cooler than the rest of the restaurant! Very good dinners. Food is tasty and plentiful. Recommend the basic "PuPu Platter" and the various "Hot Pots". The weekday lunch buffet is a great option. My only reservation about this place is that it can be very slow on weekend evenings. On one particular occasion, as my dad and grandfather tried to order drinks for themselves, the 'bartender' didn't know what a Manhattan was, served a martini (which reportedly consisted of straight vodka) in a shot glass, and had no idea what an olive was. They had two sushi chefs (both in cute little sushi maker outfits) and they did a great job making a presentable and yummy plate. I got the cucumber rolls- for the beginner- and they were great. The service was very attentive and overall outstanding. The drinks were SO strong I couldn't even finish the second one- be careful of the exotics if you don't want a stiff one. I recommend the frozen drinks- they aren't as brutal. Place was so clean it would most likely pass the white glove test. Don't let the strip-mallish exterior fool you. This is my favorite place for Chinese food in the area. Service is always excellent and food is always hot. Prices are very reasonable. We haven't tried the sushi here but plan to. Clean, updated, and comfortable atmosphere. Some of the mixed drinks could use a little improvement, less juice. The Beer is always cold and refreshing and not a bad selection. We like the Kung pao chicken, house fried rice, crab rangoons and salt and pepper chicken. All with hot mustard, of course! read more

Went there for some take out Saturday night. When I pulled into the parking lot and there was 2 cars there should have been an indication on the food. I use to go there years ago, and they were great that's why I thought of them. The California rolls were the worst I have ever had, no flavor whatsoever, and they were falling apart. The local grocery store has far better. The appetizer plates were terrible, no flavor and the steak teriyaki looked like they ran out and just cut it in half and put it in a stick. Save your money and go elsewhere. Definitely not going back there. There are to many other options that serve A higher quality meal. read more

Definitely a diamond in the rough. I'm in the area for work and a coworker brought me here, as it is one of his favorites. My coworker and I shared the pupu platter, which was excellent. The beef and chicken teriyaki skewers asking with the pork spare ribs were the best part by far, but it was all good. I also ordered the eel avocado and spicy tuna rolls. They were quite small in size but included 6 pieces. The eel avocado had great flavor, while the spicy tuna tasted of sriracha, but I wish there was more in the mixture. When they first opened, they were great. We order the most expensive thing on the menu, the love boat every time we go. Two times before the sushi tasted as if it had been soaking in lemon juice. We thought, we'll give it one more time. There was barely any sushi or sashimi on the boat. The sashimi was sloppily cut. Two pieces couldn't be separated because they were still one. We have been going to the Pearl for a few years now and the quality of the food has gone way down. Last weekend we took our grandchildren and our food was terrible! My husband would not let me send it back. The fried rice had so much black pepper In it we couldn't even eat it, the chic chow main chicken was go so thin you didn't even taste it,most of the apps on the pupu platter we overlooked and dried out, the egg roll and chic fingers were soggy.
