HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! Where do I begin? A) Made a reservation. Waited 30 minutes for said reservation anyways. B) Too many cooks. But really...too many waiters. Four different people asked us if we made our drink order yet. Which would have been fine if any of the drinks had made it to the table. But no. That took at least 20 min the OG order and longer for the next. C) Brought out my entree....15 min later brought out next entree. D) Half hour later, we asked where the other food was for the last person. Turns out they had put this food on person B's order. And didn't tell us. So our friends ate our other friend's food. Awkward situation. E) Manager told us that they would comp us one roll to bring home. F) Person C still has no food. 2 hrs into meal. G) Person C is told by other manager that we don't get the roll they had said H) Person B calls bullshit and asks for other manager back I) Person C is told they can have their comped roll J) Everyone is INCREDIBLY frustrated at this point. K) Okay...getting ridiculous & still waiting. L) Finally comes with check. Despite explaining at the beginning, before ordering, that we wanted to split checks asks up to do it for him. M) That level of frustration where you want to explode and freak out but you're an adult with real responsibilities so you can't throw a tantrum in the middle of a chinese restaurant so you have to just plot your subtle revenge begins. N) Did I mention we are celebrating my friend's birthday? O)h no free dessert? P)ee break Q)uestionable who are waiter even is at this point.. R) ealized we have been here for two hours already. S)ign waiter that we want to box our food for the fifth time. I am not joking. 5 times. Same question. Comical at this point. T)hat awkward moment when Dan spoke in a chinese accident to the waiter. U)nder the influence V)ulnerable. W)hy am I sticky? And why are these tables are so close that this basic bitch next to me is scaring me every five seconds when she WOO girls out. X)ylophone. After trying a variety of appetizers and main dishes (all from the Thai part of the menu), I was very happy with the quality of the food, and will certainly go back. I should point out my ranking is compared to other local restaurants, not an absolute scale. read more

Solid place. Much like the other "Oriental" bistro/cafes in the area, but the best of them all. Have had multiple dinners and appetizers and have yet to be disappointed. The fried dumplings and crispy pan-fried noodles are very good. The clear soup is also one of my favorites. Even though it is very simple, it's very flavorful. Reliable and good for comfort curries. The preparation isn't consistent, but the panang curry is delicious, not overly spicy but deserving the tiny red pepper on the menu. I don't eat sushi but the other lunch menu dishes are a good choice. read more

I guess i'm not the only one who thinks Oriental Cafe is slipping. It used to be a very good place to eat: good food, good service, reasonable prices. I usually go with a group of friends from work. But we went there a few months ago, and I thought it was the worst it could possibly be. I was wrong.We tried one more time today for old times sake and it was even worse than the last time. The chicken seemed to be soaked in gelatin...it was actually slimy. The waiter kept wiping his nose while he was next to our table. It was disgusting. And the service was unbelievably slow. There was nobody but us in there, so i don't know what the hold up was. I wonder if that's why we were the only ones in there! On the ride back to work, one of my friends said, "Do you think I should look for someplace else next time?" and everybody in the car said YES! read more

Took my boys out for dinner relatively early last night. 5ish I think. We split a some chicken fingers (awesome, but mega greasy), shrimp Pad Thai (ordered spicy, but no heat at all), and 3 special rolls that are half off for the entire month of October. Pad Thai was yummy, not a ton of it though. Definitely a smaller portion size than I'm used to. I think cold Pad Thai for breakfast the morning after is one of my favorite things about going out for Thai food and I don't think that's gonna happen here... Still, I probably don't actually need that much anyway and it tasted great. Special Rolls were excellent. Presentation was great as well. All of the fish tasted fresh, and we got a pretty good assortment. For the region, this could be the best sushi around... Service/decor - good date spot. Dark and quiet sort of vibe, although the techno- pop at medium volume was a bit of a juxtaposition... Still, my 8 year old was a bit out of his element as it was a bit too quiet for his style. No biggie though. Service was spot on. They were slow and we were tagged teamed from two servers who were on point, but not obnoxious. Bottom line - excellent date spot for drinks and sushi / Thai food. I'll definitely go back soon! read more

We have been here numerous times in the past and always had excellent sushi. On March 13, 2015 we took our kids and grandson there. The meals all came out at different times and mine came out combined on someone else's plate. I looked at mine an the tuna on the top of my roll was dry, fishy smelling and almost black. The waiter said that he thought the tuna was normally thicker before I said anything. My daughter had a tuna avocado roll and the tuna was solid black so I stopped her from eating it. They took two rolls off the 100 dollar bill and apologized but the service was poor and the quality issues with raw fish that they KNEW about but served anyway will have us looking elsewhere for sushi. read more

Oriental Cafe is an excellent hidden gem in the downtown area of Willimantic. The building it is in used to be a D'angelos, but as soon as you step inside you would never know it. The ambiance is relaxing and peaceful, the service professional and timely, and the food is absolutely phenomenal. I am always skeptical of sushi bars, but this one exceeded my expectations in freshness, which may be stemmed from the fact that its right next to a fish market, but i don't know for sure. the half price sushi happy hour is a great deal, everything is half price, and the full menu is good too! I got the shrimp pad thai which was delightfully spicy with a huge side of crumbly peanut butter, though they did leave the tails on the shrimp which was a little messy. they also have several good vegetarian dishes and rolls. read more

LOVE the food here. Though I hear the service can be bad at times the staff are always friendly and the food is always great. Fresh, flavorful and good variety. I had the volcano roll which was awesom!! rainbow roll, seared white tuna, and Singapore mei fun. All of it was amazing I really have no complaints compared to other places. read more

We have always gone to the one in Storrs but wanted to try this one as it had Thai. Unfortunately the food was not thoroughly cooked. We did not get sick but We also know another couple who did ge sick from the sushi. We will not go back to the willimantic location which is a shame since we live in town read more

Went for lunch a week ago. The Sushi was nice and fresh and the Thai curry was excellent. The 2 of us left stuffed on a fantastic meal.

The food was not tasty actually it was rather bland. The waitress was abrupt and perhaps rude? The restaurant was empty during lunch time. If the waitress treated previous patrons the way she treated; I understand why resident refuse to patronize the place. It is a small town so good or bad new travels quickly. I walked in to this wonderful restaurant on Saturday around 3pm and it was empty ordered The Husky roll, J.Y.Z roll if i remember correctly the pineapple fried rice and the spicy mango with beef. everything was excellent, The rolls where a good size and the presentation was some of the best i have seen. The rice was good quality no chewy onions or hard kernels of rice and it was a little sweet. The Spicy mango was great with chopped peppers and snap peas, The beef picked up the sauce great and it had a little bite to it. The outside of the building was pretty much untouched very plain but the inside is one of the most modern oriental restaurants i have been in color changing LED lights over the bar 2 good sized TV's, a great selection of drinks at the bar, very clean and roomy feel. The wait staff was great knew the menu easy to understand and came to the table often even with every table filling up roughly 15 minutes after we where seated. All in all it was a great experience definitely not the kind of place i expected in Windham and will for sure be going back. read more

We've eaten here at least a dozen times since it opened in late spring including some takeout. They serve Japanese, Chinese and Thai food. There's a sushi bar that overlooks a tastefully decorated dining room and an eight stool bar (full license) separated by a half wall (a nice place to sit with a drink while waiting for takeout). The sushi is outstanding, fresh and expertly prepared and presented. Seven of us ate together there last night. Around the table there was miso soup, miso eggplant, sushi and sashimi combinations, perfectly done tempura, tuna and eel hand rolls and spicy Thai shrimp with basil. Seven discerning palates and seven enthusiastic thumbs up. One of our table mates has tried their Chinese dishes and had good things to say. The Thai dishes we've had as takeout have been great but they do back off on the spicy dishes so if you like it hot you have to be clear and ask for extra spicy. The service is friendly and efficient. When it comes Asian/Oriental cuisine in the area no one beats this place when it comes to quality, atmosphere and service. read more
