The fried rice here is unbeatable. I wish I had their recipe. I still come once a week to get my favorites, which is the Salmon Fried Rice, Tokyo Slice Roll, Ikiyaki, Sashimi Deluxe. This is my favorite place!

The restaurant was clean as always with a nice ambiance. The servers were all so sweet and helpful. We ordered miso soup to start. It's a favorite that is consistently excellent. I ordered udon noodles with veggies and my friend ordered soba noodles with veggies. Both of us loved our meals! They were hot and delicious. For dessert we got the tempura cheesecake. Wow! Beautiful presentation and tasted creamy and not too sweet. The tempura was a bit challenging to cut with our spoons but it was worth the struggle. This is one of my favorite restaurants and I'm so happy to see that they are doing well!

Everything about this meal was perfect, from start to finish. We were seated immediately despite it being quite busy. Enjoyed a bottle of Josh Cabernet for an incredibly reasonable price. My partner's meal arrived fresh and piping hot -- my sushi arrived beautifully arranged (with the CUTEST soy sauce plate art!). We even made friends with our table-neighbors. I cannot express to the Yelp community enough how incredible this restaurant is. You can always rely on Umami for deliciousness, consistency, and hospitality. Xoxoxo Umami has our hearts forever!

It was a holiday weekend and we were the only ones dining in, but takeout orders were booming and our waitress (a very friendly and welcoming short Asian woman) was doing an amazing job checking in on us, and running over to the takeout area constantly to give people orders. On that day, I really enjoyed my Miso Soup (a perfect small portion to warm me up) and Teriyaki Tofu, although it came with a ton of onions that I did not care for. It came out sizzling hot and seemed to continue to cook after it was on my table, so the onion flavor became really strong and almost gave me a headache, but I ate around it. The veggies were fresh and the tofu had a great crispy breading on it. The sauce was very thick and a little went a long way - I almost wish it were a little thinner so it could spread more evenly across my food to give it some moisture. Today I ordered takeout online through the Seamless site. It said food would be ready in 10-15 minutes, which felt crazy fast. Lo and behold, about 12 minutes after I placed my order, I got a text that it was already ready for pickup! I couldn't grab it until well over 20 minutes had gone by, and even by the time I got home, everything was still perfectly hot and nothing had to be reheated. A young man gave me my order and I was in and out of the plaza in 60 seconds or less, so efficient and no wait! I tried the Teriyaki Tofu again today because I really did love it, but keep forgetting to ask for no onions. I also got the Peanut Avocado Maki Roll with Spicy Mayo - I've never seen this combo for sushi and had to try it! The seaweed had a really strong flavor that surprisingly overpowered the peanuts, how odd. I almost wish this came with some sort of peanut sauce to really double down on the flavor! It was good and fresh but a little less exciting than I thought it'd be. Their menu has a wide range of both Chinese and Japanese dishes. There's plenty of parking in the shared lot, and you have to go down some steps to the bottom floor of the plaza. The steps are a little tilted, so watch out. I'm not sure if there is a mobility impaired accessible way to access this floor. Prices seem reasonable and takeout was very fast. I'll be back!

These haven't changed in years (decades). A couple ice waters quick to show up! For my first drink? I'm having a French Martini made with Grey Goose vodka, Chambord and a splash of pineapple juice. This is good! It is a well balanced drink. They don't garnish here so I know what I'm getting. They also use medium sized martini glasses (not the small ones). For my first item, I'm having the House Green Salad. This is made with iceberg lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. I LOVE their ginger dressing! I like the soothing music here. This salad is awesome! My friend is getting the Kani (crab). Wow! Look at that masterpiece! I think he got an upgrade! Out comes a random complementary sushi. It looks like tuna with cream cheese and avocado. This is delicious! I love pickled ginger and lots of wasabi. That's hits your nose hard! For my next item, I'm having a miso soup. This is the lowest price I've ever seen ($2.85). It is a soybean soup made with tofu, scallions and seaweed. Miso soup is a traditional Japanese soup made from a dashi stock mixed with miso paste, a fermented soybean paste, giving it a savory, umami flavor. Key ingredients often include tofu, seaweed (wakame), and scallions, but it can be customized with mushrooms, clams, or other additions. It's served hot, typically as part of a traditional Japanese meal, and should not be boiled after adding the miso to preserve its flavor and nutrients. This is hot and steamy. It is delicious! For my next item, I'm having the Seaweed Salad. Japanese seaweed salad (often called wakame salad) is a vibrant, refreshing, and umami-packed dish. It is made by rehydrating dried seaweed, tossing it with a vinaigrette made of sesame oil, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, and garnishing it with sesame seeds. I love this stiff although it sticks to your teeth sometimes. It is quite chilled. For my next item, I'm having edamame. These are a superfood. Boiled soybeans with salt! Edamame is a Japanese dish of young soybeans, typically boiled or steamed in the pod and served as a snack or appetizer, often with salt. It can also be prepared shelled (mukimame) and seasoned in various ways, such as with garlic, soy sauce, chili, or sesame oil, and served warm or cold in salads. The beans are known for being a protein-rich, healthy, and versatile ingredient. These are an absolutely delicious! For my next drink, I am having a Strawberry Martini made with Svensk Wild Strawberry vodka, sweet vermouth and a splash of strawberry liqueur. Oh wow! This is good! Yes, you can taste the alcohol here! These edamame are good! No shortage of salt here either! For my next food item, I'm having the Tuna Nuts made with thinly sliced seared tuna served with raw seaweed and a sweet miso paste. It normally cones with scallions too. We'll see. This is good! It's might and easy to eat. Yummy! Our comes a spice tuna avocado ball AND a no rice sushi dish! This is amazing! There is NO place like this! For my next item, I'm having the Ikura (A La Carte menu). Ikura is the Japanese term for cured salmon roe (fish eggs). Prized for its vibrant orange color and signature "pop," the individual eggs are typically marinated in a soy sauce, sake, and mirin brine. It is most commonly served atop vinegared rice wrapped in a strip of nori seaweed (known as gunkan maki) or over a bowl of rice (ikura don). This is a taste of the ocean! Cucumber, no rice. It's a must when coming here! The wasabi is wicked strong! It was just made today! I love this! On my For my next item, I'm having the Spicy Crab and Mango made with snow crab, mango, avocado and cucumber. My friend is having the Spicy Crunchy Scallops hand roll. These are sushi snow cones. For my next drink, I am having g a Watermelon Martini made with Bacardi Light Malibu Coconut, pineapple juice and a splash of mango schnapps. Oh yeah! This is good! Strong too! What a unique drink! This has a maraschino cherry garnish too! OMG! For dessert, I'm having the Fried Crispy Banana and Fried Ice Cream. Yeah, right. Let's see what REALLY comes out! OMG! This is IMPOSSIBLE to finish! Look at this monster! Tiramisu?! This is quite unique! Wow! My sister is ordering the Chicken with lemongrass to go and I'm ordering a quart of hibachi soup to go. This place is the bomb! There is no better!

Food is always awesome, service is always good, chefs are always awesome. The problem I have is they charge an 18% tip charge to your check automatically. They do not come out and tell you this, they just rubber stamp it on the bottom of your receipt. This is almost unreadable unless you know it is there. The lighting is very low so it is close to impossible to notice. We paid an additional 18% not realizing they had already done this. We paid close to an $80 tip!!!! We love this place, but this is like some sort of robbery adding a charge without telling us in person. If you're not doing something underhanded then be honest and up front with your customers. Don't put a faded rubber stamp on the bottom of a receipt in a dimly lit restaurant. Check your receipt people! This is a scam that needs to stop! We are extremely disappointed. Please realize we have absolutely NO complaints with the food or service, we just don't like when an establishment takes total advantage of its customers financially. We pay a pretty hefty price for the food and service at these places! The tip is our choice, NOT YOURS!

Gilbert's in Glastonbury for my birthday, and from the moment we walked through the door, it was clear that we were in for a very special evening. We arrived a little early and went into the bar for a before-dinner drink. The bartenders were so much fun, incredibly welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the menu. They gave us some great insight and helped get the evening off to a perfect start. The hostess brought us to our birthday-decorated table with a big smile. Such a thoughtful touch! And then the real magic began when our waitress, Sam, came over. She could not have been any nicer! Sam was absolutely perfect--warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in making our evening special. Her recommendations were spot-on, and every suggestion she made was delicious. The steaks literally melted in your mouth, and the mushrooms were to die for! Every bite was incredible. What made the night truly memorable, though, was the combination of amazing food, wonderful service, and all the little touches that made us feel so welcomed and celebrated. Thank you to everyone at J. Gilbert's for making my birthday such a wonderful night, and especially to Sam for making it extra special. We absolutely can't wait to go back!
