As I drive up to it I got a little concerned as all the parking spots in front were taken. Almost moved on until we saw they had a parking lot off to the side. Pulled in and went inside. We were seated right away after given a few choices of where to dine: hibachi table, booth in bar area or booth in dining area. We chose the dining area which happened to be right next to the hibachi tables so we heard the chef over there as they cooked. They use only one menu which seemed like it was their takeout menu. No real complaints I guess as it did list everything. Our appetizers came out quick and food was good. Although the steak bits seemed a little dry. Liked that they allowed us to swap out the mushroom soup with miso soup. Salad was good, they used a different Asian styled dressing which was tasty. Portions were large and we wound up taking some leftovers home. Came here for dinner, liked how there was separate seating in the bar. A bit dark and outdated, somewhat dive-bar-esk, but works! Started off with the vegetable gyoza, very yum! Came for sushi ended up getting dinners. Hibachi portion is very large, noodles were delicious. Tofu was cooked well and had crispy skin, would recommend. The Scorpion Bowl - WOWWW!!!!! I visited Toyo Hibachi recently and, instead of sitting at the hibachi grill, opted for a regular booth and ordered sushi rolls from the menu. Even without the tableside show, the experience was enjoyable in its own right. I ordered an appetizer, Thai Spring rolls. They were uneventful, The rolls, however, were fresh, well‑assembled, and nicely balanced in flavor. The fish tasted clean, and the portions were generous without feeling heavy. Presentation was simple but appealing -- exactly what you want when you're just in the mood for good sushi without the theatrics. Service was friendly and efficient. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and the staff checked in just enough without hovering. Hamachi sushi was very good as was the "super white tuna" (escolar) though I was surprised it was not clearly identified. Disappointed. We get food here a few times a year, the food used to be amazing as well as the service. I stopped by after calling in a few things for a pickup order. Nothing crazy but included a 30% tip automatically when I ordered online. When I walked in, the lady at the stand said "name" without a greeting at all. She gave me a total, and handed my card back. I confirmed that the tip was already included because the receipt she printed had a line on it for additional tip. Her response was "I guess so". We got home, and the food was not good. The sauce containers had MAYBE a teaspoon in them. There wasn't enough sauce for one crab Rangoon. And the chicken in the genera tso's tasted like it was frozen, then thawed, cooked and sat on the warmers for a long time. It was not good. I love all sushi and sashimi as long as it's fresh. There's seating, although I don't think the tables or the hibachi seats are far apart enough. It's a bit crowded when busy. And Wow is it busy! The sushi is, however, fantastic. It's not going to be San Francisco sushi, or even NY, but it's fresh and good! The ingredients and their inclusion, especially some of the Norwich rolls, and why they're so named escapes me. I ordered a Mai Tai to drink and it was good & strong, you can actually taste the alcohol in it unlike a lot of other places! I ordered the lunch sushi you pick 3 rolls, I got Alaska, Philadelphia & salmon. It comes with miso soup & salad. The sushi was great. The salad I was also impressed by because it had plenty of dressing & I always have to ask for extra dressing at different restaurants. The miso soup was also good! Toyo used to be the place to be! Yesterday my friend and I went in, we were seated in the bar area. There was a funky smell, it was dark, the table was sticky. I felt fine afterwards, but my friend had sushi and within an hour was throwing up and feeling very ill. I am sad that this place has gone downhill. Where to start.... The place was busy for a Wednesday night and there was a 20 minute wait for a seat at the Hibachi tables so we (me and husband) were offered the dining room or bar. We chose the dining room but, as we were being led that way, the hostess was stopped by another employee and she was told to seat us in the bar. Uhh, ok. The hostess assured us that the music would be turned down. It wasn't. (We never said anything about the volume, felt like it was a common request from the customers.) We were seated by 3 very loud drunk ladies that screeched (literally) every 30 seconds or so. Definitely not using their indoor voices. Honestly, they were loud enough that they'd probably be just as annoying outdoors. Also, I hope that the lady in therapy gets a new doctor because some of the stuff you said he told you doesn't sound right. (I really wasn't trying to listen but OMG, they were loud!) We ordered and one of the meals came with soup that the waitress dropped on the table. Soup everywhere. The waitress was very apologetic, we cleaned up as much as possible and immediately took advantage of the situation to move to the opposite side of the room, putting as much distance as possible between us and the drunk ladies. It wasn't far enough but it was better. New soup came out - immediately followed by entrees. Great, now husband has to decide which one to eat hot. (he ate the entree, soup was lukewarm when it arrived, the entree was only a little bit warmer.) I had Drunken noodles that the menu said came in a mild brown sauce. Too spicy for me, it induced those coughing fits that can happen when you eat food that's too hot for you. That one is my fault, I should have asked, but come on, the menu said mild brown sauce! We got the bill as quickly as possible (I think the waitress was avoiding eye contact with us at this point) and got out of there. I swear every staff person stopped and wished us a good night. I think they were feeling a little bad about the situation, but not bad enough to take anything off the bill. Oh well, that's fine. Got home and threw all of our clothes in the washer. We love the hibachi side and we'll definitely go back there but we'll stay out of the bar! Although, I saw that they have Happy Hour, Sunday thru Thursday, 4 to 6. It's going to rain on Sunday so maybe I'll gather up the ladies (my friends, not the loud ones) and hit Happy Hour. Staff seems pretty nice..... What could go wrong. read more

And should you enter through the back entrance prepare to be grossed out! The ladies room should be pressure washed from top to bottom. Usually restrooms are indicative of kitchen cleanliness. Went here on Friday, March 2nd. Forget what we ordered for drink, but ordered a Toyo Duck Roll appetizer and a sushi sashimi for two meal where we wanted to sub the Toyo Sushi Roll for a Tiger Roll of the same menu price. My wife explained that while she is allergic (anaphylaxis style) to shell fish, that her husband loves shellfish. It would be fine for the chefs to separate or plate things for the meal on separate plates. We were sitting at a booth across from the sushi bar and what immediately transpired was a heated and loud match between the sushi chef and our waitress about what we are and are not allowed to sub out on a meal, and we hear him say "I get it! No shellfish!" So... I'm already disappointed before the meal arrives, because I know that we weren't really listened to. First thing that shows up we assume is our Tiger Roll. Gorgeous but.... looks like there is shrimp in there. Is that shrimp? Sure looks like shrimp. New waitress entered Toyo Sushi Roll (which has shrimp) for appetizer and not the Toyo Duck Roll. Good thing we are able to identify and prevent our waitress/restaurant from killing my wife. After being very apologetic, they put a rush on our Toyo Duck Roll, which was actually pretty good. But then our server would not stfu apologizing making the situation all the more so awkward. Then shows our no shellfish fish plate. The tuna and salmon sashimi pieces were meh, but the tilapia tasted of plastic packaging and freezer burn, while the escolar (typically a very buttery soft texture and my favorite sushi fish) seemed to have a crust to it as though it had been sitting without refrigeration for quite sometime. After the 'nearly killing my wife fiasco' you would think that they might have comped a drink or maybe a dessert or something, but nah. This place is pure garbage from front of house to back of house and from the other reviews I read, other folks find it just 'meh'. read more
