the salon is very cute and nice inside.... but they gave me the worst haircut of my life. I booked a curly cut (which is $120 vs their regular $80) expecting to get someone who knew how to cut curls and was trained in the curly cut technique. I got a regular haircut and was charged the cost of a curly cut "because I have curly hair". I literally left the salon with a blowout. but even besides that it was a terrible hair cut. the super short layers she gave me that I didn't want are uneven, each side of my head looks completely different. its a bad haircut period, cherry on top was getting charged extra for a curly cut that I did not receive. read more

I recently moved to the area and was looking for an Aveda salon. Origin was listed on the Aveda website as a concept salon, so I called for an appointment. I was able to get an appointment within 2 weeks. Overall, I think the cut I got was ok, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. I realize that my hair cannot always look like a picture I bring in, but I really think this cut was off the mark. I didn't notice it so much in the salon, but when I went home and looked closer at the style, and as I've styled it since the cut, it is not very much like the picture I came with in the salon. I got a shorter version of the exact same cut I had when I came in the salon, whereas I was looking to change up the style. The salons in this area are pretty $$$, so I was somewhat disappointed that I didn't get the change-up I was looking for. The stylist that cut my hair did not wash my hair, as they had someone else do this, so the stylist did not see my style when I came in the salon. That is probably not necessary, but I would have preferred to talk to the stylist before my hair was washed by another person. My biggest concern is this is not an Aveda salon. I did not see any Aveda products or advertisements in the salon. The stylist used products that were not Aveda on my hair. I was halfway through my haircut when I realized there were no products on the counter near the chair and the stylist came back with non-Aveda products to use on my hair. I looked around before I left and there were no Aveda products on the shelf. I double-checked when I got home and this salon is listed on the Aveda website, but the Origin website has no mention of Aveda. I have had my hair cut/styled exclusively at Aveda salons for decades, so I will be reaching out to Aveda for clarification on this salon's designation as an Aveda salon. Also, beware of where you park at this salon. I thought I was in the parking lot, but came out to find a note on my vehicle threatening to tow it if I parked in the lot again. There is a group of shops in the same area as the salon but they have a different parking lot. There are no warning signs on the parking spaces and no one mentioned this was an issue when I made the appointment. A heads-up would have been appreciated. So, I gave this salon an average rating due to the factors above. I don't think they are a bad salon, but they could be better. They also need to clear up the Aveda designation. read more

I had three stylists work on me total and it was such a fun day! I had a lot of regrowth and needed grey coverage with a major haircut. I enjoyed chatting with all three stylists and they each did a great job with my hair. I love that it was a busy yet quiet salon which was not overstimulating. Shampoo room was small and relaxing and the apprentice gave a great shampoo. Prices were typical- hair services are a luxury and worth the money to pay a professional. I'm happy I found a place to regularly get my hair fixed up. Also, Aveda products are always a win! read more

I came in today for highlights and a haircut. The woman who cut my hair was very nice, very communicative, and was a delightful person. She did an EXCELLENT job with the highlights, especially since I wasn't even sure what I was going for with them, but the haircut I got was not only not what I had wanted but from where the longest part is now to where it used to be, it's 20cm shorter. I showed a photo of the haircut I wanted, which was a photo of myself right after getting it cut in 2015. I asked for that cut but more length if possible and for my bangs to be trimmed as they were. Before the highlights, she showed me how much length she wanted to take off and then cut off a piece to reference to for after the highlights. That length was fine, it was about 7cm to cut off of the longest part, hair still falling somewhere at my breasts where I like it, but the end result was sooooo much shorter. I didn't state that I wasn't okay with more than 4" off since the length she showed me she would cut was less than that. I wanted to cry. Someone else had to come in and fix the way the layers were done because it was more of a choppy shag look than what I wanted. The end result wasn't a bad cut, except the bangs (I wanted them just trimmed and evened out but they're... layered? in a way I don't like on me) but the cut isn't "me" at all . I didn't have my glasses on to see how much length was being taken off or what kind of layer shape I was getting, but I thought it would be okay since she had marked off the length at the beginning. I am thankful she brought someone else over when she didn't know what to do to get the shape I was going for. read more

Best blow outs in Redmond Aveda products & fabulous staff. I have a lot of hair & hair goals and Selwa has really been amazing to work with over the past year, she is my hair hero!! At my first appointment she really listened to me and helped me create a plan to get my hair healthy again. I've since gone in regularly for color, cuts, blow outs & other treatments such as keratin. I have thick complicated frizzy/shair so it was important to me to find someone who knew my hair type and could style my hair the way I like it. I've been to all the blow out bars on the Eastside & this place really is a hidden gem in Redmond. The Salon offers a blow out pass that is very competitive. I am a huge fan of Aveda products & therapies and you can see the results in my hair. The entire staff is great! This is a family run business & I'd feel confident with any stylist at this salon. My hair is long, wavy, and has grown so much since the pandemic. I didn't have high expectations since I'm extremely picky with how my hair is cut. Tess did such an amazing job! Aside from her talent with styling hair she made me feel so comfortable. She took in my input and did everything I asked for. It is extremely rare to find a gem like her. I highly recommend Tess! I'm going back just to have her style my hair. The only peeve I had with the salon is that they have added an $5 charge for sanitizing their salon for you. They state it is for PPE. They also added a $3 charge for an eco-fee???? So if you go expect that you are paying $8 more to your cut. I mean shouldn't they tell you that before you make an appointment. It was unexpected. Best salon on the east side. The stylists demonstrate superior expertise and professionalism. The staff overall are sweet, friendly and attentive. I'm particularly impressed with their attention to safety amid the pandemic: I've never been to a business that takes customer and employee safety more seriously than this place. They adhere to up to date state mandates, require preventive measures, and maintain strict safety protocols throughout the entire visit. I felt very safe and comfortable! Selwa can do it all, and is honest about how long the appointment will be, can explain the scientific reasons for her methods, and is warm, thoughtful and keeps your preferences at the forefront. I'm visiting Seattle and scheduled a session with Selwa just for base color. I was so impressed with everything about her, and the salon. It's a soothing, calming space. Selwa did everything beautifully--small details I notice that often aren't done--or it takes several sessions for a new person to get to know you and your hair. Her scalp massage was fantastic. She thoroughly washed the back of my head--often I am staining my pillowcase after a color. She was enjoyable to talk to. She did a great blow-out, just the way I like it. And, she seemed to know exactly the right products to keep my frizz prone hair to be manageable in the Seattle humidity. Colleagues were commenting for days on Zoom calls how great my hair looked. I am very unsatisfied with the haircut. I was very explicit in how I wanted my haircut done and i was not listened to. Now my hair is shorter than i wanted in to be, cut in places I asked to not be touched. I cannot wait for it to grow so then I can have it fixed.
