My husband and I have gotten take out for years from famous taco. I always thought that their prices were high but the convenience of takeout and their acceptable Mexican food outweighed the cost. After our last few overpriced lousy food experiences and last night's meal we will never order their food again. First, we were charged an additional percentage as we chose to use a credit card to pay for our $26 dinner for two. The Taco salad and Botana were inedible. Man this place is terrible. The food is decent enough if you can handle absolutely deplorable service. I cannot get over how this place actually stays open. When you call, they put you on hold for a minimum of 7-8 minutes. They also, notoriously, under time how long it will be until your meal is ready. On average, you should take whatever number they give you and add a minimum of 25 minutes onto that time that was given to you. Also, they charge a3.75% fee if you use any sort of card for payment. Ordered a taco mush extra roast beef, $10 and some change, i called and told them they forgot the beans and rice amd doubled the meat. First time i have been there in over a year, the time i was there before I forgot my charger and i called they said they will hold it so i went back a little later and they said they didnt have it. Never go here EVER. I work 3rd shift and the only good thing I can say about this place is they deliver until 4am. At least they claim to. I just placed an order at 3 and I was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour. It's now 5:00 with no food. I called them and nobody answered the phone. I'm assuming they are closed. My card was charged for the food but they never delivered it. I have no idea how any business can do this and think it's fine. I tried ordering last week from here. I called around 2:30am and they told me they aren't taking any more orders. I was of course upset but I understand that they may have been too busy. So this week they take my order, charge me, and then don't deliver. I have tried sticking up for this place in the past because their food is actually really good. Sometimes they deliver in 30 minutes and other times it's more than 2 hours and the food is ice cold. After this I'm done trying to defend a place like this. First thing in the morning I am doing a chargeback to my card then going there to speak to the manager. I'm mad I have to give this review a single star as this more than they deserve. 1st visit. Had the taco special (#1). Very good! The ingredients were high quality. The cheese was especially good, freshly shredded. The lettuce was excellent, the size of the pieces was just right and super fresh. I loved the tortillas and salsa. They tasted like they fry them on location and prepare their own salsa. The tacos were stone cold, the meat, the tortilla, and the processed cheese (I really think its velveeta!) The enchiladas looked like tortillas covered in chicken gravy, but wait, there were seriously logs of that bright yellow processed cheese in the middle of them! Not melted, still square, chunks! This place is very good! There used to be one in Grand Ledge, but went out of business. The decor is very colorful and nice. A couple issues I have is the parking is terrible and the waitresses take a while to refill drinks. They seem to be undermanned every time I have been there. read more

I wrote a letter to Famous Taco after not receiving my order after over an hour. Terrible customer service and I will never go back to this place as much as I had loved their food in the past. Dear Famous Taco: On Friday, September 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. I placed 4 orders for myself and co-workers. I clearly identified myself and where I was calling from, gave my address along with phone number. My order was read back to me with accuracy and was told my order would arrive at noon. I stated that I would be paying cash. Having problem in the past with delivery taking longer than an hour, I always call well in advance to place my order expecting on-time delivery. I had not received a phone call from the delivery driver at 12:08 so I decided to call. After inquiring about my order, the woman on the phone struggled with finding it in the system. After several minutes of not finding it, she asked me who I spoke to. I indicated that it sounded like her. She proceeded to tell me that she did remember my calling around 11 a.m. to place my order and asked me for the total. I told her it was around $28 and some change. It was now 12:15, 15 minutes into our lunch hour. The woman on the phone kept saying that she didn't know what happened to my order and that the computer somehow did not store it. I told her that I would like our food. Not once did this woman apologize for what had happened. She then asked me "well what did you order". I asked how soon she could have the food delivered, and if I could receive a discount for the inconvenience of missing a portion of my lunch hour after waiting over an hour for delivery. She proceeded to tell me that she wasn't allowed to discount my food and couldn't give me a time for delivery. Out of frustration, I hung up the phone. It appeared clear to me that I was not going to get our delivery and I needed to find something to eat in less than 20 minutes. Not only were we inconvenienced with no apology offered and knowing that she had my contact information, she never once called me to make things right or notified the owner of issue? I heard her talking to someone in the background when I asked about a discount and she indicated it was the owner's daughter but no action was taken. I am not alone when I say your business has poor customer service and poor management techniques as I have given your business several chances. Not only have my orders been wrong in the past, they have been late and I have STILL ordered after the fact but with this incident you have lost my business. You have not only lost one customer, you have lost all of the people I work with. I will be sending a copy of this letter to the Lansing State Journal. read more

I loved, loved, loved the tacos which had heaps of cheese...and I love cheese! It comes with rice and beans, which are both good, but nothing unusual about them. The BEST mexican food in town! Not a classy place by any means, and the menu appears pricy when compared to the appearance of the building, but more than worth it! Nobody does hot sauce better! I've been a fan for many years, and have always referred people. Don't let the decor sway your decision to give them a chance, it just don't get better! It was my first time eating there today...and it was absolutely TERRIBLE! I decided to order the Taco Mash because I had heard it was one of their best dishes. I asked her if I could have Refried beans instead of meat...she confirmed that I wanted no meat, and what do I get?? Ground beef....not even good ground beef but nasty grey colored, dry tasteless ground beef, along with everything else that was in the dish. My boyfriends taco shells were soaked in whatever grease they cooked them in. They were so gross looking and tasted even worse. The only thing food wise that was good were the chips....but I've had better. Service wise, No one was rude to us, but they definitely didn't care much about anything. The place was dirty, run down and not taken care of. I was really shocked at how displeased I was with this place considering how everyone loves it. I will definitely NOT ever be going back.
