Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and give them a 5 star. For one, they deserve mad props, because they are close to the airport. Every time I come home from whatever trip I'm on, I stop by this place. So here's the deal. It's literally a hole on the wall. All walks of life are in this place. Everything from drug dealers to cops to blue-collar workers to people in suits and ties. And let me tell you, they're all sitting in the same small cramped area just to eat this food. So the cooks are always Latino, and the guy running the register is always Asian. But when I tell you those burgers come out all grilled with melting drippy cheese on soft buns with gtilled edges and fresh lettuce and tomatoes and perfectly sliced red onion to boot! Oh and let's not forget them old school fries you'd get in middle school that were crinkle cut! And did you notice when you were looking through the pictures of all the food posted on Yelp? I will go so far as to say, 75% of those pictures or of what was left over after the person ate their food. I say that to say it was too good to stop and take that picture first. Taking the picture was an afterthought. When I tell you all of their food is delicious, I genuinely mean that. If you're looking for a good burger with fresh produce and different sides to choose from, this is your place. This is just a really nostalgic spot and hits the mark every time, and can we just talk about how affordable these prices are?? One of these days I'm going to get one of the Korean dishes that are on the menu. Problem is, I always say I'm gonna do that. And I always end up getting the same thing, but I always get it because it's so damn good. The next time if I can remember, I will take some pictures. Today the eight of us came over after a round of golf at Metropolitan. Typically we like to sit outdoors- there are two picnic tables. The owner caught us wiping down the tables. He took the initiative to come out and sprayed down both the tables and bench seats. Ordered - * hubby got his usual- the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Served in a melamine bowl. * I got the cheeseburger with grilled onions and a side of onion rings. The beef patty was grilled but not much umami. And too much iceberg lettuce. It was delicious, crispy and flavorful. I got the Chili burger was intense and huge! I wasn't expecting it to come with so much chili and I won't complain! Lol this place really does feel OG and it's fitting that it's called "Original" Giant Burger. There were like construction workers getting lunch here so I knew it was a good spot lol. Fair prices and good food that hits the spot. This was close to the airport so I came here when I picked up family from the airport and they wanted to eat burgers lol. I wanted to try a local spot, and of course sadly In n Out is not a local option anymore. All the food was good. The service was funny and they were accommodating to our many questions and requests. Just be careful they might charge for little things, just clarify if something is an additional charge or not. I had a chili cheese dog lol, my parents had burgers. This place sits directly under the flightpath of the Oakland airport. It's a small Mom and pop operation with less than a dozen tables inside. Not the most cleanest of places with plenty of flies buzzing around inside. Nonetheless, that doesn't stop this place from being popular. I decided to keep it simple with a bacon cheeseburger, and an order of onion rings. You can help yourself to a table full of condiments situated next to an antiquated fountain machine. The burger was decent and pretty much on par with In-N-Out and much better than McDonald's. The onion rings here are seven dollars a serving, but they were pretty much worth it. Despite being a little rough around the edges, this place delivers up some decent grub, which is better than some of the fast food chains. I got a soft spot for mom and pop shops and this is the epitome of it. Don't come here expecting a refined meal as the place feels like a run down diner with no AC and old school booths and tables for dining in, but the workers are friendly and ready to serve. Food-wise they're a bit confused, but we were happy enough with our fried chicken entrees (pretty much Korean fried chicken). We got two half Crispy Fried Combos - one in Soy Garlic and the second in Sweet & Spicy and both were fried extremely well. We also got a free little bonus appetizer of deep fried rice cakes when the cashier (assuming the owner) asked if we enjoyed spicy food and we said yes. One thing though, a woman approached the guy that was taking my order while I was ordering demanding to get better curly fries. She kept saying her fries were too small or bottom of the batch. I looked over and they seemed fine to me. In fact, half of the fries were gone. It seems that she had already eaten half of her fries and now she was demanding more. Who does that? Giant Burger used to be one of my favorites for great service and good food at reasonable prices. No more. The ownership changed and they've slid downhill astonishingly fast. I still went in as the cook was a carryover, so for a while the food was the same. The new owners raised prices and added Korean fried chicken. This past visit was rock bottom. I ordered my usual Denver omelet with hash browns and sourdough toast. The omelet was terrible. Undercooked, no meat. The toast was not toasted, just tasted like regular white bread. Worst the "hash browns" were just 2 McDonald's-like patties. Man, I could cook this crap better at home. The new owner gets easily confused and doesn't seem to be able to handle the register. Anything out of the ordinary like "hold the onions" seems to confuse him. He was arguing with the guy in front of me about the price of his breakfast sandwich because he wanted to substitute turkey for ham. The lady owner stepped in and charged the correct amount. Lo and behold! Our last visit was nearly one year ago. I was coming home on Doolittle from Alameda on Doolittle and called home to ask if she wanted anything. She said to go to the burger place and get some burgers and fried chicken. After a year, I had forgotten the last visit and failed to look at yelp and read my own review. When we visit a place for the "first time", we like to overorder so we can try multiple flavors. Today, I got: Hamburger with Grilled Onions and Pickles - 3 - She didn't read my last review before cutting her burger in half and eating it. She told me that the meat was bland, the lettuce wilted and the bun falling apart because it was really soggy. Cheeseburger with Grill Onions and Pickles - ? - I didn't eat mine because I was focused on the Fried Chicken and the Fish. After I read my review, I rewrapped my burger and stuck it in the refrigerator to eat tomorrow. Fish & Chips - 2 - The score is for the Fish. We were in London three weeks ago and had the best Fish ever. The fish was large in size, the crust very crispy and flavorful; the overall temperature was hot. The Chips in London weren't anything special, so we didn't eat much of those there either. The tartar sauce today was not good. No pickle relish noticed, and the sauce was runny and boring. The odd thing was that I ordered a 3-piece and received 4-pieces. I don't know if that was accidental or intentional. The fish was okay, but I probably wouldn't order it again...if I remember this experience. Korean Fried Chicken with Sweet & Spicy Sauce - 3 - The chicken was good. The sauce was good. Why the low score? At other places where we've had KFC, the crust stayed crunchy even with sauce. This crust did not, and we found that disappointing. Our Full order came with 5 drumsticks and 10 wings. Customer service was very friendly and efficient in spite of how busy they were. Customers kept coming in and the orders were flying out. On this trip,I was surprised to see changes to the restaurant and new faces behind the counter. I will miss the Kim's and wish them the very best in their retirement! The new petite young lady behind the counter is named Janie. She was very sweet, just like Ms. Kim. I love the new menu board overhead. Many of the same menu items are present, except for the catfish that I used to enjoy, but with the addition of Korean Crispy Fried Chicken. We had our usual Giant Burger and fries. It was still the same great burger! They are also updating the restaurant and have added ordering with your phone. In the transition, the soda machine was not working, but had canned sodas to offer with their meals. One thing we wish was different is that there was no Ketchup, salt or pepper at the tables. You must go up to the front to get it. They did give us a few packets of Ketchup, but it didn't go far. Hopefully, this will change. We use to stop for a burger for our 19th hole eats, but we haven't eaten at Original Giant Burger since before pandemic since they had no inside eat and only 2 benches outside. We finally went back last week and it seems the previous owner retired. The indoors is open back up for seating, the menu seems the same but new owners have a neon menu and a couple of new items like Korean Fried Chicken. We ordered our usual Giant Burger Meal which includes fries and a drink. The new owners gave us one piece of the fried chicken wing to sample with our burger order. The burger was good not as much onions as the previous owners. French fries were hot and crispy the way we like it. Decided to go back the following week after golf to order the Korean Fried Chicken. We ordered the Meal #3 Honey Butter Fried Chicken which I thought was good but maybe a little on the dry side. A friend ordered a different type of fried chicken and he thought his order was dry? Order came with a small cole slaw and a small Korean corn cheese. I thought price was decent. We ate outside since they still have the two benches.
