They are so messy, not very lady-like and so not good for you, but Tommy's World Famous Chili Cheeseburgers are something I would truly miss if I ever left CA. And yes, I would miss them more than In-N-Out. Most people would probably disagree with me there. Their combos are really reasonably priced. Even though I love their chili, I always get just regular fries with my combo. I have thought about getting the chili fries, but I think that would be way too filling. There is always enough chili spilling over from the side of the cheeseburger on the inside of the wrapper that I dip my fries into. I have come to master the fine art of eating the burger without getting chili on myself. My co-workers were amazed when Tommy's Shack on Wheels came to my work as a treat to our department, and I was able to eat a chili cheeseburger without getting chili all over my hands. I told them it was years and years of practice and learning to use the wrapper to hold the burger. Kinda wrong to have a chili hamburger food truck at a hospital but, oh well :) Often imitated but never duplicated, Tommy's is truly the home of the Original World Famous Chili Hamburger. As you can see in the "about me" section of my Yelp profile, I hate chili...always have no matter where I've had it. I have tried on many attempts to try and like it but I can't wrap my head around the mish-mosh of ground beef and tomato paste. I'm not a fan of tomato paste or tomato based products for that matter. Yeah, not even ketchup. I love me a real tomato only. So, how, do you ask, does this crazy broad give Tommy's a 4 star? Well desperate times call for desperate measure, my friends, when you're starving, too lazy to go and get you're own food, and someone else happens to be eating Tommy's chili fries. I was offered theirs to shut me up about being hungry. Lo and behold, I really liked the chili fries! There were no beans, there wasn't a ton of tomato paste, it was full of cheese, and there wasn't a super salty after taste. I think the cheese helped a lot. I do absolutely love cheese. I was driving home the other day and actually considered stopping by for my own chili fries. I didn't though. I had yoga class in a couple hours and I'm pretty sure chili and yoga are a no-no. "No way! There's a Tommy's practically in my backyard! YES!" - my reaction upon finding out there's a Tommy's within a 10 mile radius from home. I fell in love with the food at Tommy's after getting hooked on it at Cal Poly. It was open late, priced for a college student, service was fast, and you could get free extra chili, pickles, onions, or tomatoes on your order. What's not to love? Word of caution: don't get extra chili on your burger unless you want a big mess. Oops. Okay, it's not in my backyard but I can get there in about 10 -15 minutes on a good day. Whatever I said about the one in Industry applies to this one as well. Actually, this location feels more authentic. There's no indoor seating, just 5 or so picnic tables outside. Small Tommy's on corner. I made the wrong exit off 405 fwy, but was starving. Tommy's Chili Cheese burger seemed like the answer when I saw it. Contruction workers ordering, girl getting chili fries, okay Outdoor dining only, got my burger loaded with everything and added chili, but wasn't impressed. Have had better at other locations. Quite affordable Sloppy, but for some reason left a void or maybe wrench in my stomach after 15 minutes. A one time deal for me as I'm rarely in that area, but when all said and done I should have retraced my steps and hit In N Out. Something about the chili here just did't seem like Tommy's best. Remember, I was of those idiots who waited 90 minutes in L.A. to bring back the Original Tommy's 65 cent chili burgers (6) and even after a half hour drive home those were superior Cheap date though. read more

So I was very hungry late yesterday night and I decided to go to Tommy's. I got there and ordered 2 chili cheese fries well done with extra cheese and pickles on the side. First off, the women who took my order was very rude. So I went ahead and ignored it and then pulled to the window. My order was very simple. I paid, and then when I got my food I was a bit surprised because it usually takes a bit longer for well done chill cheese fries to be ready. I would know because I worked at a Tommy's. So I open the bag and ask for more pickles because I'm pregnant and craving pickles all the time. So the lady then says, OMG I don't have any more pickles young lady as she is walking away. So I was shocked and then kept hearing her talk under her breath. As she is giving me my pickles she says to the cook very sarcastically, "she sure does love pickles"! I called this morning to speak with a manager and it took forever to get a hold of someone. Guess who answered the phone? Guadalupe the women from yesterday night! She said the manager was not there and to call back at a later time. I personally feel like if you do not want to work, then you simply shouldn't. Giving customers attitude does not help. Spice up your night with a Caliente Burger! It was what my body craves late at night. Unfortunately, I inhaled that burger along with all of its grease and didn't feel in the best shape afterward. My fault but at least I enjoyed the process. The burgers are fairly sized and can feed the hungry. The quality is maybe just under the tier of In N Out but way above McD and other mass chained burger restaurants. This Tommy's Burger was really fast with their orders but had limited seating as with all Original Tommy's. Their bathroom was pretty gross with pee on the ground but most people don't go there for the bathroom. 4/5 I will definitely come back for their burgers when I'm around the area, but I won't go seeking a Tommy's just to have lunch or dinner. read more

I have grown up around Tommy's burger. I have been to the one in Barstow, Lake Forest, and most frequently to the Fountain Valley one. I just moved to the area and this one is like a block from home. Only one I have been to that has no inside seating. It is VERY outdated. We have eaten there about 6-7 times now and about 3 times by drive-thru. Staff is hard to understand, credit card machine usually slow or down. Service is really slow and they usually find a way to mess up the order. My wife's burger was pink and undercooked one time we ate in. EVERY time we did the drive thru they messed up her order of NO pickles and onions. Every time we do drive thru they leave everything on it. The woman is usually hard to understand on the 1970's drive-thru microphone and became rude at the window when I tried to confirm NO pickles and onions. Sure enough they left them on there. Must I forget, when my family and I were waiting for our order outside the cashier/cook tapped on the dirty window with food tongs to get our attention that the food was ready. On another occasion we did the drive thru we asked for no onions, but they did no tomatoes. After this visit my wife was throwing up and I had some serious bathroom time. This place is horrible! On top of that we witnessed the female staff flirting with the hispanic construction workers sitting outside. Very poor service, food is ok. Sadly worst Tommy's I have been to. I wasn't able to eat it quickly, but I picked it up and realized that I was probably 10 minutes away from having the grease stain my seat. The bag was orange. Been driving past this place for years and finally tried it out for the first time last night. First thing that came to mind was why did I not come here sooner?! Cost: C'mon, it's a fast food joint. This place has my favorite hamburgers (followed by Five Guys and Fatburger)! The chili on the burgers on the fries are a must. The fries are as good as they get; not as large as steak fries, but not wimpy. Sadly my only complaints are that the only tables are outdoors, and there isn't a bathroom or sink to wash your hands after getting chili all over them.
