Like another reviewer said, we're dog people but really loved this experience. My daughter is dying for a cat but we can't have one. They do charge for entrance of 1 hour and reservations are recommended. The kittens were the most fun but you only get 10 min at a time. Great little place helping cats get adopted. I love what they're doing and their mission. Coffee next door is great and they have a nice setup for letting people interact with the cats. There's also a lot of space for the cats to have privacy if they're being overwhelmed and need to get away. The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is I wish they'd have a little more education for people coming to play with the cats as I saw a few handled roughly and a few humans training the cats in some bad habits ie playing with shoe laces which could be problematic later. read more

This place is a complete sham. The only reason why it would deserve 1 star would be that the place is well kept. You have to enter through a cafe then pay a mandatory $8 "donation" PER HOUR to enter the cat play area. And then you literally cannot pick any of them up...so the entire time you just have to "wait for the cat to come and sit on you because we don't want to make them uncomfortable or force them to do anything they don't want." In reality, you end up trying to unsuccessfully lure the cat over with toys for the 1 hour allotted to you and then you have to go. Here is my unbiased review of my experience here: My fiancé and I came here for a special screening of the new Gilmore Girls series on Netflix. We showed up, ordered some joe, and took our seats in the cat room. The staff were very friendly, and obviously everyone in the room were big GG fans, so it was good vibes for the most part. I can't really comment on the normal experience, because we just paid a "suggested" donation and had a great time watching the show, with the company of several cats. Had an appt set for 10 am this morning, and it was all worth the drive from St Pete! We got our food and promptly entered the cat room for an hour of playtime. All 13 cats were adorable and super playful! They checked out my purse, put their head in the food bag lol, and eagerly approached my daughter and I for love and attention. Well first of all it's really a cafe and then a cat play area. It's divided in two by a wall (health reasons I guess). Then you have to pay $8 just to go play with the cats, regardless of whether or not you buy a drink. I bought a 12oz iced coffee for $4.95 and then paid $16 for "cat time" cause I paid for my mom's. With tax and tip it came out to $23 and change. Like okay cool, but the site doesn't tell you that it's "top of the hour appointments" so we showed up around 5:10 and they were like "so 5-6 is the last hour, you can still go in but you wouldn't get your full hour" meh, whatever, we drove 30 minutes might as well go in. They also don't specify that only the cafe part is open until 7 and the cat part closes at 6. You finally go in and they kind of bombard you with all these things you can't do with the cats "no picking up, let them come to you, use inside voices, don't bother sleeping cats." There's some tables and chairs and cat toys everywhere and you know, other cat ladies. Who didn't seem to like following rules. There was this one rather screechy girl who literally screeched the WHOLE TIME whenever a cat did something cute. Two other women who sat by one cat who was asleep and kept trying to wake him and another woman who kept picking one of them up. The people to cat ratio is a lot high on the crazy people side. My hour was spent sitting on the floor begging/pleading the kitties to love me while screechy mcsqueal did everything in her power to get all the cats to come to her. I got maybe one drive by pet and 15 seconds of play time in the 45 minutes I spent in there. Most of them are up for adoption but you have to contact the shelter, you won't be walking out with a cat from there. Seems reasonable. In all it's definitely not worth it for me. It's in Cagan crossings in clermont(aka hella far for me), the coffee is expensive and I'm not really sure WHO gets to keep the $16 I paid for cat time. For that amount of money you can come over and I'll let you play with my cats for as long as you want. read more

Five stars for the coffee, two and a half for the Cat experience. If you live nearby, I highly recommend the Axum cafe part, which is located almost right across the street from a common Starbucks. On my first visit I had a specialty hazelnut latte & scone, and a regular blend on my second visit. I was quite impressed with all of it. There's no comparison to Starbucks as far as quality and price. I will most likely be back to try more selections. As for the Cat experience...we were invited back by the owner due to something that happened on the first visit which I wont go into because she apologized and comped our visit. Had I paid for this visit, I would not be so forgiving, and I want to give a head's up to anyone who is thinking of traveling more than a modest distance to pay $8 for an hour in the cat room. Before entering the room, we were briefed on the rules of engagement. Then we were allowed in to interact with the cats. At most, there were four cats in the room at any given time but well over 20 humans. Most of the cats were perched high up or surrounded by quite a few people. A couple of times my toddler chased after a cat with me right behind him, but that didn't stop a bunch of people including the attendant from yelling at him to stop chasing the cat. I understand, rules are rules, but I was a little embarrassed and scooped him up after 30 minutes and we left. The attendant did apologize for the "low number of cats in the cat room" she said it's because many of them, were adopted yesterday. Okay, we appreciate that, but I did feel for those in the room who paid full price. I'm not a cat person, and my husband's allergic so I thought it would be a good experience for my kids who do like cats, but I just can't see the value for the experience we got this visit. This is a very new business, and if you love cats but for some reason can't have a cat, or if you're looking to adopt one, maybe call ahead to find out how many cats they're likely to have before you visit. read more

UPDATED REVIEW- NOT family friendly anymore: I am updating my review due to this business no longer being kid/family friendly. Initially, I gave this business a high ranking. I love the concept- even though the prices are too high, it was unique enough that I would pay it. The main reason I would pay the $8 fee per person was because of my 5yo. The good- the Cafe staff is friendly, the coffee is good, and the cats are cute. Unfortunately , that's where the good ends. The bad- I would officially say this place is not family friendly anymore. Be aware before you drive out there. We were there opening weekend and I went in with my 5yo. The staff in there seemed unfriendly- but I attributed it to the stress of opening weekend. Due to the cost of going into the cat room, we haven't been back again until today. And we will not be back again. They limit children under 12 from going in the cat room except for a specified hour on Sundays and Wednesdays for a 'structured activity' (according to their website). Now- I full well believe that parents should watch their children when they are anywhere, but especially when they are around animals. So I am sure that the rules were changed because of something that happened, but this is the wrong decision. It severely limits families from enjoying what could have potentially been a great activity for out of town guests! Especially since this was not adequately advertised. Don't bother going. We paid for 4 (2 nine year olds and 2 twelve year olds) children to go into the cat area for an hour. The cats went into the back for the first 15 minutes. The children couldn't hold the cats. What is the point if you want to adopt one??? The children said that the lady with the long hair and long blue fingernails was very rude to them. Ever since it opened, I have been an annual visiter on my family Florida vacation. I love it here! The food here is always so good. I am not exactly sure what it was, but I got a chocolate mousse like cake and it was scrumptious. I also like the macrons, I got the red and blue one. Not sure the flavor but D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. The strawberry smoothie was very good as well. I am a fan. The cats were super sweet too, I really loved playing with them. Everytime I come I always want to take one home. Disappointed ..... If you go make sure you get there earlier enough to get in coffee line which is required to check in. Our gps took us way out of way so we got there late and then had to wait 29 minutes in line and we only had 3o minutes inside café . They good have a cat check in line and non cat check in line to make wait less . Then we checked in a second time to this lady who told us all of the donts while we were there . There were only about 3-4 cats and then that was it . The coffee was good but we were given Wrong food twice ! I know the money goes to a good cause but I was over 55 dollars out the door after my party of four had coffee and paid cat fee . I can just go to humane society and donate and enjoy the animals . I love the idea of the Cat Cafe but the #1 big drawback for me is that my fiance and I had to pay $16 just to sit in with the cats for an hour. I know this goes to funding the cats and their environment but $16 is really steep. Especially if you want to buy a coffee too for the cafe experience. I've been saying for about a year now that I couldn't wait for the cafe to open because I was definitely going to be a regular and practically live there but I doubt I'll be back soon, because I really can't afford it. After you get in, it's a little awkward inside because it's really quiet and there isn't a lot of seating and most of the cats are sleeping, so when one comes near you everyone in the room just stares at you lol I'm sure these things will smooth out over time though as the cafe develops. Overall, I appreciate what they're doing. I love cats and did have a nice time when I was there. I feel like if it were just a little cheaper I would feel more comfortable and not expect so much. read more

What an awesome place! Tons of sweet cats all around, lounging and playing. We went on an weekday at 10am. There were a few other people there, which was no problem as there are more than enough cats for everyone to interact with. They have lots of toys and good furniture for the kitties and humans alike. Only downside is-you wish you could stay all day! We got coffee from the Axum Coffee it is connected to and then enjoyed some time with the kitties. A perfect morning-definitely worth the $8 entry fee and an extra donation in my opinion. This would be the ideal environment to adopt a cat from because you can really see the cats' personalities. I applaud the effort to try to have cats adopted however I did not feel the staff was very welcoming. There also should be better information on the website regarding the activities - for example the kitten tent was not available to use due to kittens napping which I understand but children wanted to go in and could not but that is the only time today they can come into the area. Also when asked staff about the fact if kids can come in the future the staff member attempted to explain that made no sense at all. Also I feel if cats just were turned in then they should go through evaluation and socialization first to determine if they are compatible with being there a people. Also if you are leery of children being there you should either not allow or have age requirements listed. I only gave this a 2 Star review. I would have given 1 but the children enjoyed their time except for the fact the cats were not playful. read more

What a wonderful, calming experience. This buisness model should be more widespread around the country. We ordered coffees, some pastries, and a breakfast sandwich. All were delicious. We were able to eat on the side with the cats without any of the cats trying to get at our food. The people working on both sides (cafe and shelter)were very helpful in explaining the work that they do. Its a shame we live out of state or we might have adopted a cat or two for ourselves. This would be a good spot for those that cant own cats to cone and spend aome time with them, those who have anxiety or high stress could come and spend time relaxing with very sweet and loving animals. Such a sweet place with adorable kittens. I spent some time in the kitten tent and felt completely healed of any life stress. I really feel that anyone can be cured of unhappiness from sitting in a kitten tent! I grabbed a cup of java and hung out with the kitties. My only complaint is ten minutes simply isn't long enough in the kitty tent. Forever sounds more reasonable. I would definitely go again to cuddle with cute kitties and leave without having to clean kitty litter. Score! A big bummer is you can't pick up kitties to cuddle. What a great place to spend time with cats! Definitely make a reservation as the place was pretty full when we arrived. All the cats are adoptable and the food is pretty good. Had the caprese panini and an iced chai, which were kind of expensive. I would recommend them both though. Good vegetarian options, but no vegan options (maybe the bagels). Cats took a while to warm up, but got used to the humans around them after a few minutes. You get a full hour to play. There was an error with our 10am reservation.
