TL;DR: Honestly thought I'd hate Ormsbys, but for a bar, it continues to exceed my expectations. ARRIVAL: I've come here twice when it wasn't too busy. On a weekday night around 5p and Monday for lunch around 2. There's a parking lot at the end of the driveway-like path. AMBIANCE: Definitely a standard bar/pub feel. It's never been super loud or busy when i've been here, but I can see it being a fun crowd. There's darts downstairs and backgammon directly on the booth tables. MENU: On first glance, the menu seems fairly standard but it has ~flair~. They have great drunchies and everything has a tasty twist. FOOD: My boyfriend likes to order a custom burger which they don't bat an eye at. Most recently I got the after school special with collard greens (because I can't say no to peanut butter). Chili cheese fries as an app. The burger was delicious. It had so much going on that I knew it had to be good for it to be on the menu and it did not disappoint. It was cooked perfectly, juicy without being overly greasy and did not drip oil as i was eating it. The fries it came with were crispy and not overly greasy (they accidentally gave fries instead of greens at first). When the greens arrived, (cooked with ham hocks) it wasn't too salty which is what i find most of them to be. The chili cheese fries while delicious, was more a deconstructed chili rather than having all the components mixed together as chili, then poured over the fries. The taste was still delicious, you just have to dig around to get a little of everything. SERVICE: Service was really chill both times I came. They were friendly and around when needed but mostly you're left to do what you want. PRICE: Great price for really good food! Ormsby's is a great spot to grab drinks. It's large enough where it never feels too crowded and, if you're in a spot where it does, you can likely find somewhere else to go. They have games like darts, skee ball and bocce to name a few. The service was EXTREMELY fast, even during the SEC championship game which drew a crowd. They had the game on many TVs and a big screen. Drinks were decently priced- $20 pre tip for a high noon and old fashioned. I hadn't been in years and forgot what a gem this is. A great place to go for dining and gaming! Appetizer The soft pretzels there are decent! Well baked and salted with complimentary and good cheese/sauce. Main meal The meals were well-made and have great amount of flavor and taste to it, rarely taste blend every time I dine. Drinks Bartenders hold back a little on the liquor but have a wide array of options when it comes to beers. Server Have really good servers when it comes to dining but can see the bartenders get flustered when the crowd begins to pick up. They are decently fast and good at giving suggestions! Price Pricing is on the higher end for both drinks and food but comes with a fair amount of food and drinks. Wait Time Not really a wait to get in the venue but like most places there's a wait for getting drinks and paying games at a certain point of the night. Parking There's a parking garage that's about a 2 minute walk from the location with reasonable pricings, I was there for about 2 hours and cost $3 on a Friday night Restrooms It is hidden around a corner but are average and clean. Decor/Music Creative decor to bring adult gaming in a modern spin. Bar section There's two bar sections, upstairs and downstairs, that have fast servers once they notice you. This was my first time here. One of my good girlfriends and I came here after coming from an event on a Saturday night. We were super hungry and looked on our map at local places that were open after 11 PM and saw this place had really good reviews and menu selection. We came to the door downstairs under the stairwell and the security guy outside was really nice. We went inside and it was super packed with loud music, but in a good way. So, if you're ok with being around A LOT of college students/younger crowd and rock/punk rock music, then it's a cool place. We were seated right away and our waitress was so sweet and so efficient. There was a guy sitting at a table next to us that ordered steak and fries. He let us try a bite and it was super juicy and flavorful, definitely going back to get that next time! I'm still not used to this area so parking is such a hassle for me. Apparently, I completely bypassed the free parking garage that was right by this place. I came to Ormsbys on a Friday night to meet a new friend and we spent the whole night talking, we didn't even get a chance to check out the downstairs! I know, shame on us. The venue is MASSIVE! You would never think it's as big as it is from the outside because it's already "downstairs" but man, this place is huge. Our table was super wobbly but our waitress was super sweet and attentive. We ordered drinks and got 3 apps - WHICH ARE HUGE! OMG. If I had known the apps were going to be as big as they were, I wouldn't have ordered so many lol. We ordered the crispy calamari, roasted garlic hummus, and brussel sprouts. Out of the 3, my favorite were the brussels. They were surprisingly delicious! The hummus was okay as was the calamari - but nothing out of the ordinary to WOW us. The ambiance is pretty low-key, lights were dim, it's definitely a fun atmosphere, the noise volume is on HIGH so you have to be pretty close to your party/people you're with to hear them - especially if you're going on a weekend. It wasn't until coming to Ormsbys that I remembered how much of a university town this is. College students everywhere! I had some nostalgia from my days of going out shortly after I turned 21, heading to the nearest inexpensive and hipster bars. My friend and I just had dinner at Cooks & Soldiers, and we were just looking for a nightcap. The food here sounded good. I'm assuming you can't get a table unless you're dining. We didn't explore the downstairs area but instead found a spot to stand near the bar. I had a cucumber martini which was quite tasty. Ormsbys really does have a young, energetic vibe. I love it. An okay spot for nightlife! Came to the basement on a Saturday night (12/10) and had a few drinks with friends. Overall a cool vibe, but a bit unorganized downstairs? My group just wanted to sit at a table and have our drinks, then a server came up and said that she needed to hold onto one of our cards...so I gave her mine and we didn't even end up ordering anything from her. After a while passed, we wanted to go play some of the games downstairs, so I went wandering around for this server that took my card and couldn't find her. The bar didn't know where it was either, so I figured I'd come back the next day. I went the next day and was able to get my card from the manager, but it was just really weird that night? This review is for an event I had here for my family reunion in Atlanta. 37 of my family members attended. The event was perfect! The space was lovely and the food was delicious. Wait staff was very patient and attentive. While still in Texas, I worked via phone calls & emails with a very professional and friendly lady named Leslie to get everything set up. Once at the restaurant, my local contact, Brandon, was fantastic. The private event space was a cozy downstairs space that was situated enough away from the rest of the restaurant that it truly was a private room. I had ordered trays of food to be served buffet-style. My family enjoyed the food and was delighted that the chef, "Chef Tyrone" came over to chat with us. Two other members of the waitstaff made sure that we had drinks, and anything else we needed. My family received excellent care from staff. They made this event so easy for me! We actually arrived early on a Sunday at 11:30 AM. (The restaurant opens at noon on Sunday.) A few of my elderly family members are not able to stay outside in hot temperatures for long. A very nice young lady let them sit inside the restaurant before it actually opened. Then, she walked them to the elevator and led them to our downstairs private event room. Each and every staff member went above and beyond, so we definitely hooked them up with an equally excellent tip. I didn't detail what we ate because I ordered food from the event menu. Leslie and Chef Tyrone even allowed me to request (and receive) some items that aren't actually on the event menu. If you are hosting an event, call or email (info is on the website) and set that event up. You will not regret it. We will be back in Atlanta next year, and will bring our business back to Ormsbys. I liked this place, surprised by some of the bad reviews. Let me start by noting that it is a little difficult to find. I didn't see a sign like a lot of the places in the building have on the front part of the building. If I haven't been meeting someone there who was familiar with the place, I don't know if I would have ever found it. I ended up parking in Westside Provisions, which you do have to pay for through park mobile. I think it might have been $6 or something for 4 hours. I thought the food was great! We had the guacamole as an appetizer and then I had the Turkey sandwich as an entree. The thing is humongous. It was tasty AF, but there was no cute-sy or delicate way to eat it lol. The fries were also yummy. I didn't get pics :(, but trust me on this. The drinks were nice and strong. I got one of their speciality tequila drinks to start and man it was strong. The next time, I got my usual whiskey/cran combo and they did really well at making it. Downstairs has some cool and fun games, most free. This could be a great fun date spot. The staff were all very nice and accommodating, but they definitely seemed to be short staffed. They all wore masks, which was nice to see. The ambiance was beautiful. Upon arriving the Singh advised to seat ourselves. After sitting for about 7 minutes we were asked if we had been helped. When we advised no someone was sent over. Upon her arrival, she advised that she was the bartender and there were no servers tonight! Pause! Really? But she was super nice and had a great personality so we went with the flow. Upon receiving the menu, we learn that the menu, we read on yelp the exact same day (2/18/18) minutes before arriving was actually outdated. This meant that everything we thought we wanted was void. LOL! Most of the items had been altered so we had to regroup. No problem. Upon receiving our food, it was all worth the wait. The food was phenomenal. I ordered the ATL Hot Dog and it was amazing. The presentation was very fun and colorful and the handmade fries were perfect for the tone the hot dog set. Goldie had the Black Bean Burger, which per the new menu no longer comes with guacamole. She said it wasn't seasoned enough to her liking and the burger was falling apart. Overall, she rated it "okay!" Prince had The Richard and loved it. All in all, we enjoyed the night. so I would described this place as a one stop shop, for the simple that fact they have a full restaurant sitting on top of a mini adult playhouse. To get to this place you have to walk down some stair and go through a big door[ ID required of course] but it seems magical right. the top part of the place is shaped like a big C. completed with a fully stocked bar. if you walk downstairs you can also eat with a fully stocked bar but all games to have a little fun. Me and my friends usually play Bocce but they also have darts, pool tables, arcade machine, a photo booths and table games. the ring on the string is def a game to play when you want a good laugh at your drunk focus friends. The beer prices here are quite reasonable and I had the chance to try a hefeweizen, nitro stout, quad Belgium ale, strawberry lambic, tart plum, and milk chocolate stout, which were all tasty although the tart plum was a bit too tart. Ordered fries with garlic aioli and Sriracha aioli for late night munchies. Fries were not oily at all and the garlic aioli tasted the best. I can't say that it was one for the books as best of times. It's kind of crazy how busy they get. It reminded me of a pub in a college town but with more grown adults. People are drunk everywhere and very loud going about. Since there are so many people, it's also difficult to find a table if you're going to order food as well as drinks. All the waiters and waitress looked and acted pissed. When I did try to talk to them, super rude and short. Parking: around the block for free or in parking garage. About $3 for the first 2 hours. If you park in garage, ormsby is right there from garage. When we went in and was trying to get a table, at first, there were 3 of us and more was coming. So we tried to sit at the longer table to fit everyone and the waitress kept looking and saying that she doesn't want to sit us there because there's only 3 of us and she thinks someone is sitting there. All this even though we told her we have more coming and clearly the people who were sitting there had left because the cups were all empty and pushed together to get picked up for cleaning. The waitress then just walked away, and we asked someone else if they can just clear the table and they did. It took extremely long time to get any order in. When I asked someone passing by, he responded saying he doesn't work upstairs today and said he will get someone for us. Which sounds nice, but this guy never did. I had to hound down someone else eventually. When I asked her if she can take my drink order, her answer was, "sure, I guess." I was slightly taken aback. Especially because she looked super pissed and just did not want to take our order. After she took our order, she literally never came back until much later giving us checks. I've been back to Ormsby's several times since writing my original review in November 2010. This Westside bar/tavern is still going strong and I remain a fan of its good food, friendly servers, laid back atmosphere, interesting layout, and fun gaming environment. I'm not much of a bargoer, but I'm almost always up for Ormsby's. It's probably my favorite bar in Atlanta. The place has held up well over the last half decade or so. The main draw of Ormsby's to me are the multitude of games: backgammon, bocce ball, darts, shuffleboard, skee ball, board games, and more. Most of the fun is located in the "concrete bunker" (of sorts) downstairs. I do like the design/layout and decor of the place. It's clean, and modern and rustic looking at the same time. Two stories, with bars on each level. There are different tables, booths, and rooms to hang out in. There are two bocce courts. I prefer the bocce and board game room in the back. It's usually quieter and not as packed. This place does remain very popular. Even on a Monday night, there are lots of customers and energy. I'd say the typical crowd consists mostly of 20 and 30-somethings. Lots of students and intown alumni from nearby Georgia Tech too (myself included). As touched on in my previous review, the food at Ormsby's is better than the typical bar. It's almost a gastropub. Expect to spend at least $10-20 for a meal. Most of the plates are delicious and satisfying. If you want to eat healthy, the restaurant has creative and tasty salads. I like the roasted beets and arugula salad. It comes with pine nuts and poached pair and is tossed with a walnut vinaigrette. The fruit and veggies are fresh and the arugula portion is generous. The burgers and sandwiches are filling. I mentioned the Bruno burger last time around. The hot dogs are great. They're made from all-natural Angus beef and come in three varieties: Chicago-style, Atlanta-style (chili, onions, Cheez Whiz), and naked. Go all out and get the Chicago dog with mustard, onion, relish, dill pickles, tomato, sport peppers, and celery salt inside a poppy side bun. I like the taste of the fried batter on the fish here, though sometimes it can get a little too oily. The slaw is OK. The bangers and mash (sausages and mashed potatoes) are a lot of food. The sausages are housemade bratwursts. Two come on the plate and they are thick and plump. The mash is savory thanks to the meat and gravy. Green beans also come with this comforting dish. Service is satisfactory. During peak times, expect more of a wait. Free Wi-Fi is available, but the signal can be spotty downstairs. Same goes for cell signals. I don't get over to the westside that much in the evening, and I think an evening visit is the only way to properly evaluate Ormsby's. That said, I stopped in for lunch ... Yelpers seemed to suggest that the Bruno burger was the way to go. However, I found it lacking, starting with a dry, somewhat stiff bun, a potato bun I believe. The meat was also dry but I ordered medium - should have gone with medium-rare. All-in-all, a mediocre burger that could immediately be improved by a different bun. Cole slaw is tasty if a bit uninteresting. It's a heavy-on-the-mayo variety which some people might not like. I like it but it would benefit from some kick. OK draft list but could more standard craft IPA's, especially as the weather warms. I had trouble settling on a beer and ended up with one I didn't particularly like. Nice bar. And by that I mean it's a frickin' fantastic bar if you consider the downstairs. Wow. We should have Yelp Elite events here every month. Visited Ormsbys on a Sunday for brunch with friends. They had ample outside seating for a quiet Sunday setting. Server was masked, polite, and attentive. The food was tasty. I ordered a breakfast plate while my friends ordered fish and fries. My pancakes were yummy and my mimosa was also a great addition. Love the west side provisions area and complimentary weekend deck parking was also a great amenity when you think of other overcrowded, overpriced places in the area.
