Greeted on entering the store and checked on while browsing. The famous American-made Pendleton wool blankets are pricey but on those nights of extremely icy temps with an eye on the thermostat...maybe not that much! I was pleasantly surprised at Pendleton's clothing line which echoed quality in fabric and its design. Smart of Pendleton to have stores at the airport because I did visit the stores in town but here was my chance to pick that item up before flying home! Lol!!!! It worked! I ended up picking up a blanket with one of the more modern landscape motifs and a wool shirt that double as a shirt jacket! I'll be back! Lol!!!

Pendleton represents this time in our history with high quality wool blankets and clothing of beautiful, rustic prints, most in warm colors and patterns of our various landscapes. The desert, mountains, forests and coast of the west and PNW are expertly weaved in. The blankets are heirlooms, classic in design and made to last for generations. And they are warm! I have one and even on the coldest night, it keeps me toasty! The wool is soft, not scratchy like some wool items can be. Having one of their coverlets or blankets on your bed will transform your room. Literally. Their clothing, for men, women and children, is just as exceptional. The coats, jackets, capes and sweaters are so warm, in addition to being comfortable and beautiful. I'm considering purchasing a cape to keep me warm on my daily walks. The weight is perfect plus it allows for free arm movement. To adorn your home there are rugs in a variety of sizes from small doormats to full area rugs. They make bath towels, throw blankets, and pillows; they have an ever expanding collection of prints which immediately shout Pendleton. So many patterns to choose from! Most are muted colors on a neutral background. Aztec, jacquard, plaid, stripes, heritage, rustic. Some with prairie scenes, the Northern lights, mountains, eagles, elk and other animals and landscapes found in the west. Each is truly a work of art! If you love the prints but want something smaller, they have coffee mugs , baseball caps, wallets, totes and handbags, backpacks, and even masks with their signature prints. They make fantastic gifts that people love to receive. Located right in front of the Terminal C&D security checkpoint (to the right), get to the airport early so you can visit this shop. Or stop here when you arrive to Portland, you have to walk past it anyway! There is also a smaller outpost on the corridor for the C gates. For a small kiosk, surprisingly they have a great variety of inventory. Pendleton is an Oregon icon and part of our rich history going all the way back to 1863 when Thomas Lister Kay, an Englishman and weaver by trade, made the cross country journey to the PNW and began working in Oregon's woolen mills. He then opened a wool mill in Salem, OR. The blankets and clothing were not only practical, they became the standards of trade and ceremonial use. In 1909 his descendants took over the defunct Pendleton Wool Mill in Pendleton, OR, and Pendleton remains a private business run by descendants of Thomas Kay to this day. Pretty remarkable. John Bishop, the great-great-grandson of Thomas Kay, is president and CEO; and great-great-grandson Peter Bishop is the Executive VP of Merchandising and Design. Pendleton operates seven facilities and 41 retail stores that sell products throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, Japan, and Korea. The company headquarters are in Portland, Oregon, and the fabrics and blankets are still woven in PNW mills. So while visiting Oregon, bring home a piece of history that is beautiful and practical!

Then you're asking yourself...how many bags is too many bags? They don't judge. No one judges you at Portland Gear. Will be back for more. Perhaps they'll make hiking/backpacking gear? Maybe more work totes/purses? Just throwing it out there.

But, hey their loss was Portland Gear win! We spent all our money there. Dakota was a delight and went above and beyond to accommodate every request and answer every questions we had! A credit to this company for training such a great employee and quite honestly, they are lucky to have such a dedicated team member. The selection of apparel, bags and backpack, was wonderful and of the highest quality we have seen recently. Prices was impressive considering it was locally produced! Do yourself a favor and and swing by this hi and stylish brand staffed by wonderful human. Highly recommended. A+++++++++++ PS. Great Job PDX, for hosting such a great selection of local artisans and brands.

Did not notice any service happening. Limted sizes like small and Meduim on some items. The owmer/manager responded to my review below by stating they are a small store and sell out of sizes since they only get 8 of each. They still have limted sizes. I am not sure if the "why" matters if you go shopping and wear a large and there are none. I was not able to view the size or price tags without having to fish for them and pull it out so I could see. I found it annoying when shopping since buying clothes is the main goal. It is not an art exhibit. Maybe they do not know what it is like to be short and not able to easily view the tags. It is amazing how are unaware people people are of size differences. I will say the store layout was a bit interesting, with some areas that felt more cramped. It was fairly crowded when we went, so I did have to squeeze by people to make my way through the store. I spent some time browsing the clothing section and found several items that caught my eye. The clearance section was a bit disorganized and the sizes were not labeled clearly unfortunately. Customer service at Muji was friendly and adequate. The staff working in the fitting room area were especially helpful. It would've been great to have more fitting rooms available, as the line moved slowly and took up a good chunk of time. You are also limited to bringing in 5 items at a time but you can swap out items as needed. I ended up purchasing multiple tops and a few pants for everyday wear. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to browse the homewares section but was pretty satisfied with my clothing purchases and shopping experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
