Just off the jet, hungry for a late lunch and drawn in by the barker, Orozco's was my first taste of Puerto Rican cuisine on the island. Unfortunately it wasn't all that. The Pernil, roast pork, sandwich was bland and uninspiring. It could've been a pork sandwich from Anywhere, USA. I was particularly disappointed since Lechón was my #1 foodie hunt here. I should have realized that Orozco's is on the main tourist drag so it obviously caters to the Middle-American palate. If that is your preference you will probably like it here. The best was their homemade hot sauce in the cute Feliz Navidad bottle. The sandwich and even the bag of chips tasted better with it. Picanté! Orozco's Restaurant is one of the busiest you'll find along Avenida Ashford because of its bang for the buck low food prices and all day drinks specials with brands names such Bacardi Rum or Absolute vodka priced at $3.00. Orozco's holds itself out specializing in the Puerto Rico with offerings of mofongos, empanadas and so forth but also offers a decent lasagna dish at $8.00 and personal pizza at $6.00. Though nothing I'd rave about, more decent than one might expect for the price. On the downside, seemingly like all of the nearby restaurants, the toilet facilities are horrid, downright filthy with toilet paper overflowing out of the waste basket and all over the floor which is in part because of the signs posted requesting patrons not to place any tissue or toilet paper in the toilets. read more

This place will forever hold a special place in my heart! On our 11 day trip to PR we found ourselves coming here multiple times. Hands down the trifongo is the best out of the MANY other places we ate at! The mojitos were perfect and refreshing! Everything we ate there was more than satisfying! TRUST! The service was on point. Could it be because it was its in a touristy area? Maybe but I didn't care! They were so welcoming from the beginning and throughout. The restaurant is far from fancy but there is live music and the staff, while slow, is very nice. The food was mixed - the pernil mofongo was amazing and would definitely order it again. The croquetas de jamon and the mini shrimp empanadillas were good. The chicharron de pollo was salty (pass) and the combinacion puertorriquena was good, pork, pigeo pea rice and plantains were all great, the pastel, was not to our liking and remained untouched. Great food, spicy and homemade pique, but the mojito missed the mark. The Puerto Rican plate was great: arroz con gandules, a tamale, and slices of pork. A bit salty, but tasty. The canoa filled with chicken was delicious, topped with gooey cheese and two tostones on the side. The mojito was the only downside- completely pulverized mint leaves made this drink tough to drink - the leaves are supposed to be gently muddled, not shredded so you get mint stuck in your teeth. The pique (homemade hot sauce) is excellent. Not too pricey, reliable food, and it's always hoppin - hope to return when I'm next in PR. read more

We had just arrived in Puerto Rico and got all settled in our hotel. We ask at the front desk of a place close by for dinner because it was thundering and lightening and raining really hard. She suggested Orozco's. We got there and it was packed. But we were seated fairly quickly. Our waiter Jerrod, suggested we try the mofongo. I have heard of mofongo on the food channels and have been wanting to try it. I ordered the chicken one and my husband ordered the crab one. Our friends ordered the shrimp. We all loved it!! This was my first meal in Puerto Rico and it started off pretty disappointing. The Appetizer I ordered the ceviche and it was pretty gross. It consisted of a flaky white fish and it was very vinegary. There was also cabbage and onions in the ceviche but it was sort of sour, not good at all. I sent it back because I refuse to pay for something that isn't delicious- especially on vacation! The Main Course I ordered a grouper in garlic sauce with rice and pigeon peas and sweet plantains. This was pretty tasty, although nothing amazing. The plantains were a little over cooked and the rice wasn't as fluffy as I would have liked. The fish and garlic sauce was good. Came here with my sister in law for dinner. They were extremely safe taking our temperatures, giving us hand sanitizer and thoroughly cleaning our table and chairs. We went to Orozco's yesterday night and the service was not good. First, the waiter came took our orders, brought the drinks. That would be the last we saw of him for over an hour. When I finally flagged the waiter down he was not apologetic but did say,"we're busy." They were not that busy as there were empty tables. There was a few other tables that we noticed customers getting restless as well. Yes, I know we could have got up and left. But we had 2 little one who where not going to wait another 1+hours for food. So we waited. Finally the food came out, which also took forever. Another waiter brought out our food 1 plate at a time with a good 5+ minutes in between. Once the food was there the food was not great. The flavor was lacking on my $23 plate of 5 small shrimp and rice. The rice was the only thing that had some flavor. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant. At night there can be a wait because the restaurant is not very big and it is popular. But it is worth the wait. The service is not outstanding, it can be rather slow, but most establishments in Puerto Rico are similar, so I don't mind it. I come here to get my grub on so I my focus is clearly on the mouth watering mofongo they serve. You can get it with any meat you choose and their house hot sauce compliments this plantain dish beautifully. And you can not beat the price. It is rather cheap. i hate giving this two stars. Nice folks working there, in a good location, the menu looks awesome. Both my eldest and myself ordered the PR combination, for our last night in PR hoping to get some "pig", gandules, pastele and maduros. The pastele and maduros were good, the rice a little below average and the pernil was just not good. My eldest remarked that it smelled like catfood and I insisted it was her mother's fish, until really getting a close smell and smelling it as well, the meat was sort of lukewarm and my working theory was that it was left over from the weekend (this was a Tuesday evening). I never complain about food to the server but felt a need to, he took one of the meals off the check for us. Again no problem with the server or service here. My youngest really didn't like her cheeseburger and my wife's fish didn't seem fresh either. Good surullitios and mozarella sticks and the drinks were good as well. I guess Orozco's I"ll give it another shot when we come back, but overall disappointing. I think starting the trip in Guavate with the best pork on the planet, and ending up here was just to provide contrast. I have no idea how this restaurant is still in business or how it has ANY good reviews. It was top to bottom REALLY bad. Idk why but they decided to treat us like second class customers. It was very disorganized staffing. We waited outside for over 30 minutes in line. There was no que system; just wait in line. They had several tables open up in that time but waited till the party of four (in front of a bunch of parties of two) was able to be seated. We were informed when seated that we could order drinks but the kitchen was behind so couldn't order food for 30 or 40 minutes. All of the tables behind us had their drinks already served and ordered their food before our drink order ever arrived. We watched this happen with others after us too. Very bad (actually nonexistent) table queing and prioritization. The pictures of the restaurant ambiance are deceptive. Once inside, it appears very tacky. The tables are bottom dollar wood laminant. Decorations are the same. The bar has old non-working strings of lights under new non-working ones. The AC units are just bolted to the ceiling. They use plastic plates and cups. The menus are disposable paper. The bathroom had no toilet paper holder, a roll of industrial one ply just on the toilet lid, and a tacky light switch outlet directly above the mirror. The walls of the restaurant were cheap white plastic lamennant like a commercial boat or something. I could give 200 more examples but you get the idea. The ceviche appetiser we ordered was the worst ceviche I have ever had. My Mofongos was the same. The fried pork was so hard that that it was hardly chewable. It didn't even cone with a side as an entree so the side costs extra. My wife's whole fried red snapper was disgustingly fishy like it had been left out too long or something. The arrros con grandules was hospital food level and so were my wife's soggy bland mixed vegetables. This is literally the first time I EVER literally refused to eat my meal and went somewhere else to eat. Looking around, most people seemed to be not eating and commenting on the horrible food. For crying out loud, HOW DO YOU MESS UP FRIED PORK AND WHOLE FRIED FISH??? What a total waste of my money. On the plus side, there was live music and it was cleanly. Came here on a recommendation only to find the food somewhat average at best. Ordered the trifongo with seafood and trifongo with pernile. The seafood had a nice mix of shrimp, mussels, lobster, squid, and crawfish in a cream sauce, which was delicious. The pernile dish had a sauce that was more like turkey gravy that really overtook the flavor of the mofongo and pork. I would not recommend this dish. The mojitos were well balanced and tasty. I went at night and there was no line and took mine to go, so cant comment on the service persay. But if you're looking for a Puerto Rican mofongo this place is legit. Update: Back after a year and everything was great. Great service & good food. This time I ordered the Grouper Fillet in Criolle Sauce w/ Arroz con Gandules & Plantains. It was delicious I literally cleaned my plate. Ambiance was just how I remember it. I was just checking out the Condado areas when I randomly stumbled upon this restaurant. I ordered the Skirt steak with Arroz con Gandules (yellow rice) and plantains. I also ordered the Pina Colada which was tasty. My meals was great especially with their homemade hot sauce. The steak was moist & juicy. The atmosphere was great and casual. Service was ok. They are moderately priced and a variety of menu items. Overall the food was great. Found this place through yelp, and I was not disappointed. The decor is very authentic Puerto Rican with lots of big tvs. There was Spanish salsa playing in the background, not too loud. The customer service was great. I ordered carne encebollada (steaks with onion) this came with two sides which I picked rice and beans(one side) and salad. I know it sounds like a lot, but the portion was just right. I didn't order anything to drink. I also ordered the ceviche, which I think was too sour for my taste. I had a really solid dinner here with friends one night. We all got the "tre-fongo," Orozco's unique twist on the classic Puerto Rican dish. I had mine with octopus (pulpo), while my friends opted for the shrimp. They were generous with the protein and there was a lot of extra octopus hidden underneath the mofongo. The garlic sauce was delicious and drenched the mofongo. It was a little sweeter than I would have liked (likely due to the sweet plantains mixed in), but the hot sauce rectified that for me. My friends also enjoyed the empanadas but I did not try them. They have cheap drink specials (my $5 mojito was solid, but nothing to write home about). Service was friendly and prices were fair.
