I had heard about this restaurant from someone who worked in the hotel I am staying at and decided to go because he told us they had authentic Puerto Rican Food. I ordered the Pescado Ceviche (fish). Usually when you order ceviche the fish is cut into bite sized pieces. However with this ceviche the fish was entirely too big and had to be cut with a fork and knife. The chips that came with the ceviche were also stale. My mom ordered acapurrias which were filled with beef. The acapurrias were a bite full of salt. They were entirelyyyy too salty we couldn't even finish them. My dad ordered the shrimp with criollo sauce and it honestly wasn't that flavorful, pretty bland. We also ordered some tostones, and these were honestly the best thing we had eaten from this restaurant. The tostones came with this ketchup and mayo sauce. They could have added some lime and seasoning because also it was on the bland side. My mom and I decided to spike it up with their homemade hot sauce which helped. I loved this place and I felt why didn't we find it sooner. Like al the best places I find. I found it through Yelp. Stone's throw from our hotel and serves mofongo. That was the criteria. And boy were we lucky! The mofongo was top notch and this coming from someone who ate mofongo everyday to find out what everyone is talking about. This gem can easily be overlooked in comparison to the other restaurant signs in the Condado beach area, however, it does not lack in flavor! This was our first meal of our trip and definitely our most memorable. We dined on chicken mofongo with criollo sauce and shrimp mofongo with garlic sauce. Service was bad. Food was cold. I'd avoid this place at all costs. With so many food options on Ashford just skip this one. Definitely not worth it. When we arrived we had to stand outside and wait although the restaurant was empty. The staff was rude the hostess didn't even acknowledge us until I walked into the restaurant after waiting outside for 15mins without a greeting. And even then all she said was you have to wait outside. Once seated, the table was sticky. If it wasn't almost 9p I would've left but I was afraid we wouldn't get seated anywhere else. The table fan above the table was on full blast! Blowing napkins and menus around it was ridiculous. We ordered our meal and appetizers all at once, and instead of bringing the appetizer out ahead of the meals they all came out together. EVERYTHING WAS COLD. So that's plus 2 stars. however, the food gets 0 stars. My husband and I were staying at a nearby hotel (Holiday Inn) and asked the front desk lady for her opinion on where to have dinner on our first night in San Juan. Without a second thought, she recommended us this little restaurant that happened to be a short walk away from the hotel. When we walked in to the restaurant it was quite busy, but I wasn't surprised. It was dinnertime, and it was in middle of summer when most tourists are out vacationing. We come in and I noticed that they have very appealing decor, and their bar area looked lively. Lots of people hanging out there, and the drinks that were being served looked beautiful. It didn't take long for us to make our decisions on what to eat, as everything on the menu seemed appealing and best of all new to us. Most of the food listed was seafood based, and I absolutely love seafood. I ordered a traditional Puerto Rican rice dish with shrimp in it. My husband ordered a mofongo that came with a variety of sea creatures, shrimp, fish, crab, etc. They served them in little metal pots and while they may have looked small, it's quite deceiving. It's almost like they press the food down into it to give you as much as possible which we appreciated. We honestly couldn't finish our meals but left feeling satisfied with our decision. Now unfortunately my only complaint is that we had to wait forever to get our food! Despite the wait I still want to give it 5 stars because the food was absolutely delicious. Skirt Steak and Cuban sandwiches were delicious, especially the skirt steak sandwich because it came with the creole sauce on the side - YUMMY! Also their homemade hot sauce on the table really packs a punch - I don't know what's in it but whatever it is, it's pretty damn good also. Service was great. Everyone was very attentive, friendly, and welcoming :) Lastly, the bathroom, or at least, the ladies' room, was extremely clean which is always a big plus for me. Now to be fair, I am hispanic and I live in Miami,FL so I have had authentic Puerto Rican food before so we wanted to see if there really was much of a difference. We already knew what we wanted. I wanted Tri-Fongo which is pretty much yellow plantain, green plantain and Yuca all mixed together along with olive oil, onions, peppers and garlic. I am getting exited just thinking about it again!!! You have your choice of protein, I picked churrascco which is skirt steak for the most part. While we waited we ordered some drinks. While in Puerto Rico you need to have a traditional mojito, I mean it's a given, it's where the Barcardi is based out of. I advised the waiter to spice it up with some 151 for that extra kick. The waiter and server were very friendly and attentive to all our needs. No complaints on this end. Mojito's came and they were crafted to perfection. Very refreshing lemon and mint taste with the added kick of 151 i wanted hit the spot. Two drinks later the food arrived just on time. The mofongo was delicious! The trifecta of all three vegetables with the right mixture of olive oil, garlic, peppers and onions was delicious. Every bite was worth the calories I was consuming. The steak was very soft and it tasted as if it were marinated in sour oranges and lemon or lime along with species. Now was it better than what I have had in Miami. While vacationing in the South Caribbean, I visited Orozco's twice if that tells you anything. Orozco's was definitely one of my favorite spots to hang out in Condado. It is also a few steps from Condado Beach, so do stop by when you get hungry from swimming and sunbathing. If you like Puerto Rico's national dish, mofongo, you will be pretty satisfied here. Mofongo is essentially fried starch of your choice (yuca, green plaintains, or yellow plaintains -- try all three and that's called a "trifongo") stuffed/topped with succulent meat and sauce. I always opted for the trifongo because why not? For the protein, I would recommend churrasco (skirt steak) and chicken. Some Puerto Rican establishments will serve a dry mofongo (very little to no sauce), while Orozco's is wet, but I would suggest trying both to find out your favorite. I have had both and can't choose a favorite. In addition to mofongo, try Orozco's fried pork chunks with onions! Flash-fried and chopped pork with the most delicious onions. I am not big on cooked onions, but these were excellent as they were clearly marinated in vinegar and cooked al dente. On a separate occasion, I tried their fried pork chop (vs chunks) and that was more bone and overfried meat, so avoid. Best sides to order are their tostones (fried green plaintains), fries, and rice with pigeon peas. Service is excellent. I find Puerto Rico people to be very friendly and Orozco's staff are no exception. Reasonable prices ($10-20 per entree). They accept plastic, including Amex. 4.5 stars read more

It's on Ashford where there's a Chili's right down the road so you're thinking tourist trap serving up Americanized food, right? Wrong! Had I known that my first taste of Mofongo after landing on the island was going to be the best out of all three tries I'd have truly taken my time to savor it. And it wasn't even my dinner, it was my friends'! The mofongo came with the most delicious creole sauce and had it not been for how quickly plantains expand to the size of an a ten pound brick in your stomach I'd have eaten the whole dish. The margarita was a little bleh, but I was in Puerto Rico not Mexico. That's my bad. And prices were reasonable considering the part of town we were in. Visiting from NY: All I wanted was Mofongo and this small restaurant delivered. I got the prenuptial mofongo and it was fried perfectly. There was plenty of pernil to the dish and I had w lot leftover. The sauce was really tasty. I tried my friends shrimp mofongo and it was just as good. Pass on the yellow rice and beans...
