For such a large facility this is exceptional. The staff whether at the front desks or in the halls always seem to have a moment to help. My Doctor is Dr Turner whom has performed two significant spinal surgeries on me with his staff. I cannot recommend him enough. I hope I'm done but I'd ask for him again.

Ok, here goes: My…read moresurgeon, Dr. Kakarla, is amazing. Very competent and has helped me (I'm declining to say what surgeries I've had) tremendously. I cannot speak highly enough about him. However, (and this is a very big deal to me) I want others to know before agreeing to surgery about Barrow's philosophy on pain control. I have had two surgeries with Dr. K. within less than a year. The second one is known to be one of the most painful surgeries one can have, which indeed it was. Yet, I was given a prescription for only a minimum amount of pain meds when discharged from St. Joseph's. Not even close to enough. Here's the issue that I want to caution others about. Barrow *WILL NOT* refill pain medication. In excrutiating pain a week out from surgery, I had to reach out to my primary care doc's office, speak with very kind people (Honor Health) do a virtual appointment with my pcp, speak with another very kind nurse and have my spouse go get the meds from the pharmacy. My pcp was stunned that I was sent home with such a limited supply of pain meds and that they *WILL NOT* refill medication. Had I not had a primary care doc at all or one that did not understand this was an absolutely legitimate request, according to Barrow, I would have had to go to a local ER, pay a $500 copay (in my case) just to walk in the door, then get whatever additional bill for seeing a physician all to get a $10 prescription. Upon calling Barrow to ask about the severe pain I was in, Dr K's resident told me the pain I was experiencing (an 8 on the pain rating scale) was expected and that I could need narcotic pain medication for 3 to 4 weeks. Lack of post-surgical pain support is a deal breaker situation for me and I want to make sure others are aware of this before signing that consent for surgery form.

Both him and the PAs that I have seen have been incredibly kind, helpful, knowledgeable, and thorough with my care. They have taken the time to answer my questions and respond promptly and in a timely manner when I have called and left voicemails for their front office staff and medical assistants. Dr. Wang did a Microdistectomy for me as well and was an incredible surgeon. The care here is top of the line and all of the surgeons in the practice come highly recommended.

I didn't know what it was at the time or how to deal with the pain. My primary doctor recommended I see a spine specialist and begin physical therapy. I had heard about DISC on our local sports radio and from a friend that had been here before. Desert Institute for Spine Care is the leader in minimally invasive spinal surgeries. Everyone has been nice so far and informative about my situation and what to expect. My journey is still at the beginning for me. I am starting out with the least invasive options for myself like physical therapy and spinal injections to help manage my pain. So far I am seeing some moderate success with these options and able to enjoy life with minimal pain. Everyone's journey and experience is different. I am just thankful I have somewhere to go if things get worse for me.

Every person that I asked an opinion from told me NOT to have back surgery. I literally started crying in Dr. Little's office because he made so much sense. He was extremely helpful in answering all my questions and concerns. I was blown away how kind-hearted he was to me. I felt at ease. I felt very excited when I decided to go ahead and have the back surgery (L5-S1). The entire crew at Barrows and Dr Little did a fantastic job preparing me for the surgery. In at 11:00 AM and wheeled out the door in to go home at 4:00 PM the SAME DAY! I literally never took a pain pill or aspirin after the surgery. I had 100% recovery and continue to have full range and comfort in my lower back. I have my life back again and I am so thankful to Dr Andrew Little for his wonderful and kindhearted words of encouragement and his incredible surgical skills.

CAT scan shows an aneurysm. He advised me to see a nose and throat specialist. Then stated my blood test showed I didn't have a brain leak. A blood test won't detect this! I was at a loss of words & very upset.

I had tried everything to get relief except for surgery at that point. I have never had any type of surgery or even an IV before so I was extremely scared and hesitant of even the thought of needing surgery.  From the moment I met Dr. Field, he made me feel at ease and I knew I was in the right hands. The day of surgery, as expected, I was extremely nervous and in a lot of pain. Dr. Field and the entire staff at the SurgeCenter was so kind, helpful, patient, professional, organized and understanding. They made sure I was comfortable and that I knew what was going on every step of the way. Everything about this experience and this team of people was beyond my best expectations. They made something that I expected to be such a horrible situation such an easy and positive experience.  Even my sister in law who was my ride and waiting for me in the waiting room had a great experience with them. Dr. Field came out and gave her a full in detail run down of how I was doing and Gus at the check-in helped her find some snacks while she was hungry and waiting.  I am now 3 weeks post op, healed up and have ZERO pain.  I am so impressed with this facility and thankful that I was referred to DISC. Thank you so much for taking me out of pain and giving me my life back Dr. Field and team! I am forever grateful for you!

When I woke up from the surgery, I was in extreme pain day and night, something I had never experienced before the surgery. I kept seeing the doctor for follow-ups after the surgery, and he never gave me an explanation about my symptoms and the extreme pain I was suffering. He would only mention that the X-rays showed everything was fine. To this day, my sciatic nerve pain is strong, I can't feel the front of my leg, and it feels numb all the time. I can honestly say that the surgery didn't help me at all; I'm worse than before I decided to have surgery with this doctor.
