Add me to the long list of frustrated unwitting customers. Specialized Orthopedics (SOS) commited…read morewhat in my view is medical malpractice. Let me explain. SOS fitted me with a one-size-fits-none hand brace that did not fit my tiny hands, and told me I must wear it out of the doctor's office. They assured me that I had an appointment for a custom brace (with an in-network provider) that would fit. I left the doctor's office and put the brace back in the box - it didn't fit, and one-size angles meant I couldn't wear it without unbearable pain (my fingers were broken). SOS processed the bill 3 weeks later. When I got the $258 bill, I called the number. They told me that they only handle billing, to call the doctor's billing office and the SOS contact at the office. I did. Multiple times. So did my insurance company. The number for billing didn't work (confirmed by my insurance company), and messages left with the main doctor's office were not returned. I drove over to the doctor's office. The SOS contact said I would be waiting a long while to speak to him, but promised to call me back. Here were their responses: 1. "You had 30 days to return it." I pointed out that their SOS contact number didn't work and multiple messages to the main doctor's line were not returned. Their phone system can verify this. I called the day I received the bill. 2. SOS doesn't take back anything because of COVID. "If it makes you feel better, sometimes patients leave surgery with a boxed brace that doesn't fit. We can't even take that back." 3. "If it makes you feel better, it goes towards you're $7,000 out-of-network deductible." That doesn't make me feel better. It's December, and I am $6,700 away from meeting my deductible, which resets in 2 days. 4. "I didn't know the questions to ask before I worked in the medical industry. You should have refused to accept the brace. You should have kept saying no." My fingers were broken. I was told that I needed to wear the brace out of the doctor's office, even though the SOS contact has confirmed me telling her that the brace was too painful to wear because it didn't fit. 5. "I would be angry if I were you too. I will ask my supervisor (Jennifer Rader) if she will accept a return. I don't think she will." She didn't. I am frustrated on behalf of all injured patients receiving surprise bills by shady outfits. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and the Virginia Department of Health. I encourage others who feel "scammed" (in my view) to do the same.

She had gone to the clinic for PT for about nine months but stopped because of the PT's rudeness. My daughter notes that the people at the front desk were beyond helpful and kind. Specifically, Anna gave us her email when my daughter hinted that she was upset about a different situation, and she seemed to genuinely care about the issue. David was also nice when we talked to him. Unfortunately, there were multiple occasions where my daughter felt sick and terrible during the sessions, and had to leave. When she would tell her PT, the PT would make my daughter feel bad and guilt trip and pressure her into staying longer. Recently, my daughter got sick and couldn't go to PT for about a month. After a month, she felt well enough to attend about 30 minutes. After the initial 30 minutes with the PT, my daughter told them she wasn't feeling well and would go home after one more exercise (that she planned and chose to do). They told her, "Okay, well just plan to stay longer next time." My daughter was extremely confused and just dumbfounded. She assumed the PT misunderstood and told the PT that she still wasn't feeling well from her recent sickness and had planned to only stay for 30 minutes. The PT double downed and told her to plan to stay for longer. At that point, my daughter was so angry she didn't want to talk to the PT anymore. She did the last exercise and left. Because they were not receptive to her feelings and symptoms, my daughter decided to stop going to the clinic, but we wanted to report it to their admin team. She sent in a contact request to the Jackson Clinics company admin team, but they never emailed or called us. A few days later, I cancelled all of her upcoming appointments at the clinic and the clinic director asked me why. I briefly explained, but my daughter called him back and told him more. At first, he seemed understanding, but near the end he seemed to be making excuses for the PT. He said he talked to her about it, and he didn't mention if she was even sorry or wanted to explain it herself. We later learned that Jackson can only bill you for the time that the patient is there. We assume they put pressure on their employees to make clients stay. While we understand that this is not the employees' fault, we expected more courtesy from them, explaining that they had to say it. Jackson most likely puts pressure on their employees so they get more money, but because of this forced pressure, we are not willing to continue service, and they lose more than they would have. We also recently learned that they sent an end of service note to my daughter's PCP. We know this is normal and expected. However, the PT lied on it. She said that she had explained to my daughter during the last appointment about their 90 minute model. She did not. She also said "patient was noncompliant with at home exercises." While this is partially true, as my daughter has multiple unreliable and unpredictable health conditions, the PT did not put in a lot of effort to help. We hope this review will give potential clients some insight and our goal is that they won't make others as upset as my daughter was, and still is.

I…read moreconsulted with a top orthopedic surgeon in Washington and a top neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Both said that I wasn't yet a candidate for surgery because, at this time, my quality of life was not sufficiently diminished to justify surgery. Both agreed surgery would almost certainly be necessary in the short-to-medium time frame. When I asked what I should do in the interim, they both recommended physical therapy to become more flexible and strengthen my core. I asked my internist, a back pain specialist, and the surgeon I consulted in Washington for recommendations. All three recommended Kathy Braun. I started working with Kathy in December 2022, and it didn't take long to understand why she came so highly recommended. When we started, I had trepidations about whether I--78 years old, moderately overweight, having had a sedentary work and home life, and with an MRI showing severe stenosis--could improve enough with physical therapy to keep the pain manageable and possibly delay surgery. Kathy said I could. From the beginning, she gave me the confidence I needed. After reviewing my MRI reports, she explained how this diagnosis would affect my life and what I needed to do. She started by explaining the changes I should make in my daily life, such as how to walk in a back-friendly way, get in and out of a chair, lift heavy objects, get in and out of bed, and even load and unload a dishwasher. Then, she assessed my core flexibility and strength and developed a stretching program. A few months later, she added strengthening exercises. Then, every few weeks, she would change the exercise program to reflect my progress. In addition, she would work on my back muscles and joints at each session. It's been sixteen months, and I have made tremendous progress, thanks to Kathy. She kept me motivated in a positive way, explained how to do the exercises and why each was important, and never made me feel like I was letting her down in any way. This week, I "graduated." I will continue with my daily exercises and check in with Kathy periodically and on an as-needed basis. My quality of life in the coming years will be much better than it would have been without the physical therapy. I am convinced that I have given myself a good chance to delay the surgery for as long as possible and maybe even avoid the surgery if I'm lucky. I highly recommend her. Jack S.
