When I looked at online reviews there was one standout: Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics on Shady Grove Rd in Rockville. Even though this is quite a trek I chose them based on the reviews. Kris was the technician assisting me. She was terrific from the first! The office staff was also extremely helpful and worked with me on scheduling so that I could avoid high traffic times. Because things can be a bit slow working through the VA, and because I was also away for a month, so it took quite a while to actually get the orthotics. The results are worth it! The office is in an easy to get to location with plenty of parking. On arriving we were given some papers to fill out and after a short wait I was called in to a large procedure room. The receptionist offered me a cup of coffee and asked if I'd like my husband to wait with me. I was happy to have the company. Soon after my orthodist, Eugene, came in and introduced himself. He asked me a number of questions and did a brief exam of my food and brace before doing the casting. He was very nice and easily answered my questions. All of the staff were pleasant and efficient and the facility was large, clean and well equipped. Multiple staff at the practice miscommunicated on multiple occasions about the price of our service and told us we would receive a $900 refund. We had to continuously follow up for clarity rather than the organization proactively reaching out to is to rectify mistakes made. Their internal communication between staff is clearly lacking and their ability to effectively communicate with customers is even worse. Save yourself the headache and receive services elsewhere. The reception desk doesn't answer, the "patient navigator" doesn't answer, and neither return calls. We left multiple messages over several days and never heard back. I spent an entire day calling 6-7 times before anyone pick up and scheduled an appointment. I called a few days later with a question and had the same experience. I decided to switch providers, because I can't do this with them for months while my child goes through treatment. Even trying to cancel my appointment required several calls. My new provider answer the phone immediately, answered all of my questions, and worked with me on scheduling. Such a better experience already.
