The doctors are good as is the physical therapy practice. The problem is billing. I have a primary and a supplemental insurance provider. OrthoVirginia submits the charges to the primary insurance and then bills me for what the primary does not pay while they wait for payment by the supplemental provider. The amount "due" pops up every time I log in to the portal to check in for appointments which is quite irritating. This is on top of multiple paper bills sent via USPS that have a payment due date of the day I receive them. While my supplemental insurance shows all charges paid, it takes OrthoVirginia a very long time to properly credit payments (if at all). In the interim they annoy you with check in pop ups and paper bills. I have called multiple times about this and once I finally get past the AI agent, I receive the same person who appears to be offshore. The agent can see the payments were made in full by my supplemental insurance. I am assured the issue is being escalated however continue to receive reminders about amounts due that have long been paid. As I go in once or twice a week for physical therapy this will be an ongoing issue that is quite frustrating. read more

I am a 63-year-old woman with multiple chronic conditions that cause widespread daily pain. My rheumatologist referred me to this pain clinic, and I was hopeful I would receive both a treatment plan and some relief while waiting for longer-term treatments. Although I have already had numerous X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, additional X-rays were taken during my visit. I showed Dr. Sundar an insurance approval letter for a new infusion that will help my pain and condition but he said he was not familiar with the medication. I told Dr Sundar I was experiencing new pain that started 2 days ago and thought it to be Sciatica but he totally dismissed me, he would not check out condition. He told me he does not prescribe pain medication and could refer me to physical therapy, order new MRIs, and schedule steroid injections months down the road. I asked if there was anything that could help with my pain until those treatments took effect. He replied that if I was in pain, I should go to the emergency room. When I questioned why new X-rays were taken after he said X-rays don't show those problems, the conversation became confrontational. I felt he raised his voice and spoke to me in an unprofessional manner, so I chose to leave. I understand that doctors have different approaches to pain management, but every patient deserves to be treated with respect, compassion, and professionalism. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. There are many different NSAIDS that are prescribed for pain daily, this doctor does not have to prescribe a narcotic but could have easily prescribed Motrin or Voltaren Gel or given an insert for how to treat Sciatica but this doctor just says he does not prescribe medication period. However if you pull him up on his Youtube channel he list his protocols and the first thing on his list is Medication. read more

I'm extremely disappointed with this office. I already paid for surgery and follow-up care through them, yet they still charge extra just to complete disability/work paperwork that is clearly needed because of the surgery they performed. When someone is recovering and unable to work, adding more unexpected fees for basic paperwork feels completely unfair and insensitive. Patients should be informed about these charges upfront, especially when the forms are directly related to the treatment they provided. It feels like they take advantage of patients at a vulnerable time instead of supporting them through recovery. My daughter came in with a fractured radial head, and our appointment was an utter waste of time, money, and comfort. The nurse proceeded to take off her perfectly functional splint, knowing before Doctor Moody even entered the room that he was unable to do anything for her condition. Despite this, he subjected my young child to multiple, uncomfortable attempts to re-splint her with someone who also looked uncomfortable, achieving nothing but causing distress. We were sent away with zero guidance, no follow-up plan, and no communication about next steps outside of a sheet of paper. The fact that the clinic knowingly went through an entire unnecessary process, charging us for it, is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the financial and follow-up communication has been non-existent. We paid $300 at the time of the visit and have now been wrongfully billed an extra $89. I have called four times and spoken with a live agent who provided a "direct phone number" to resolve this, yet absolutely no one has returned my calls. Ortho Virginia has left us high and dry--not only failing to provide adequate medical direction but actively ignoring repeated attempts to resolve an unjustified bill. I saw Dr. Lutta for twice for plantar fascitiis. Following his advice I spent $450 out of pocket for shockwave therapy. I had to drive 45 min for the 3 treatments. Not only were they very painful, they didn't work! It's been 3 months and the problem is just the same. Be careful with Ortho Virginia -- they have a monopoly so they don't really make an effort to help individuals. They took an appointment for my 6 year old daughter with a fractured radial head, we checked in and they charged me $300 only for the Dr to tell us they don't usually deal with this due to her age. They proceeded to unwrap her elbow from the splint only to have someone re wrap it in a much more uncomfortable way for her 5 minutes later. She did not receive treatment and my wife was even called and they asked for an additional $81 for who knows what. My wife has been attempting for weeks to talk to somebody for reimbursement only to get the runaround and no follow up calls. orthoVA incorrectly coded my surgery as being an office visit, never got it corrected even after multiple calls with us and our insurance provider (who was ready and willing to pay), then eventually sent the erroneous bill to collections. Walking into the fourth floor office, I was hit, Bam!, with a brick wall of sickeningly sweet fragrance. To begin with, don't try calling unless you have over an hour to wait on the phone. I don't often write reviews, but this incident needs to be told so other people don't go through what I did. I fell and hurt my knee badly. The only physician available was the PA. Luckily, I did not have a fracture but I did have a bone contusion. After a week I still could not put any weight on the leg. I called the office to get an order for PT (which by the way the PA did not give me). After days of trying to get through to the front desk, I gave up and called my internist for an order for PT. I got a referral from my primary care phsycian to come here to see Dr. Thomas Mazahery for my back pain issues. Several of my friends have recommended him - and after conducting some research, I was impressed with what I found. After an X-Ray and an MRI - Dr. Mazahery made his recommendations for me to move forward. My back has been hurting for a long time and greatly detracted from my ability to do things and enjoy life. The OrthoViginia office at the 4th floor of the Reston Hospital is abysmal. I have been going there for over a decade and in the past several years the office management has gone down hill. I have had to chase after the office for simple requests, follow ups and information. I had to pay for two MRIs out of pocket because Dr. Alamanda did a poor job of giving information to my insurance company. I sent a complaint to the corporate office and also got no response. I have had to wait for more than three business days for 90% of my scheduling requests and questions. DO NOT do business with them! read more

This review is specific to Danielle Fishburn physical therapist in the Reston location. I would absolutely not recommend. I'd I could give zero stars I would. I had a good experience with Dr. Mook for my shoulder surgery but I would absolutely not recommend Danielle or PT here. I was just forecfully discharged before recover due to 3 missed appointments which I paid the no-show fee for. I believe everyone should be paid for their time it was my fault due to my sleep apnea. It was never disclosed to me that 3 no shows would lead to forced discharge. What was disclosed when I started PT was the ti suffer from sleep apnea and when I can get the sleep in the morning, I take the chance to do so. My appointments have varied in when they were scheduled and about a month in advance so unfortunately, I missed 3. I find it highly unethical to forcefully discharge before I'm healed from surgery. Especially if I happily pay the no show fee. She deserves to be paid for her time even if the client doesn't show. However, I suffer from a serious medical condition that makes my morning very hard to confirm appointments for. This was disclosed when I setup my appointments. This entire situation is avoidable. Charge me, reschedule me and move on. Happy to pay it but now I'm expected to continue therapy elsewhere and still come back to Ortho for the follow ups? I will be writing a complaint to the licensing board. DO NOT GO TO ORTHO VIRGINIA FOR PT. It didn't start this way, but now it just feels like a huge money grab. Had to visit Ortho Virginia and thank goodness my favorite doctor Antonis had availability at the Tysons Office saving me a long drive to Fairfax (he doesn't work at Reston although I hope he will at the new Ashburn location coming soon). My thumb and elbow have been aching for weeks and my chiro suggested imaging done. Located just past Tysons Corner, there is ample indoor parking and a quick visit to upstairs where check-in and out are on opposite sides of the floor ( a bit curious). Fast check-in, imaging and then Dr Antonis with the verdict and his recommendations which I always follow. Great Doctor always taking time to listen and recommend. read more

My issues with Orthro Virginia started in 2014! I made an appointment with one of their podiatrists and ended up seeing his physicians assistant. My foot had been hurting from a basketball injury, the pain would not go away. Rather than taking an X-ray to rule out damage, he simply gave me a prescription for anti-inflammatories. I ended up in the hospital 9 days later with kidney failure due to the pain meds he prescribed. I can no long take NSAIDS for inflammation. The pain in my foot has remained with me off and on until now (more on that later). Fast forward to 2020. I tore my bicep muscle on my right shoulder so I went to them again based on a doctors recommendation regarding one of their physicians. I went through the X-ray and MRI process and was told my bicep muscle needed to be reattached along with some other minor cleanup work. I went ahead and had the doctor preform the procedure and all seemed ok at the time. The pain in my shoulder was better but never fully went away. I I went back to the same doctor in September of 2022 with severe shoulder pain. After a series of 3 visits, numerous tests, there was no conclusive diagnosis and he basically treated me like I was a 67 year old drug addict looking for opiates!! I booked an appointment with another orthopedic doctor at another practice and after reviewing my MRI and X-ray he told me I needed a shoulder replacement, the ball and socket were bone to bone and nothing but built up fluid was keeping them moving. It is now October 2nd, 2023 (8 months after the replacement), my should feels great, I have full movement and I am very grateful. Now for the kicker! Remember the foot issue I discussed earlier? I saw a podiatrist in the new orthopedic practice I am a patient of for continued foot pain in the same foot previously mentioned. After an xray, the doctor informed me that I had a torn ligament that did not heal and my metacarpals were separating because of the lack of support by the ligament. I most likely will need another foot surgery after the MRI confirms the xray!! Conclusion: OrthoVirginia is a patient mill simply interested in running patients through for sheer volume! None of my appointments in their office exceeded 15mins and their standard of care is seriously lacking! They are owned and operated by a large corporation and no one calls them on their inadequacies because of the money that backs them. Do yourself a favor and find other orthopedic doctors to consult with when you are in need. read more

Dr. Kraekel carefully listened, took stepwise measures, which ultimately led - six months later - to a partial left knee replacement. If we had not initially exhausted prudent non-surgical approaches, I would not have been prepared for the operation at VHC Health. My first appointment with Dr. Mazahery lasted less than 20 minutes, after waiting over an hour, he was late. He didn't answer the many questions I had and literally left me with the words in my mouth as he rushed out of the room to the next appointment. My Primary Doctor and I were concerned by the report of my recent cervical x-rays, as my condition was worse. Doctor Mazahery showed me some images on a screen and I asked him if they were the recent ones and he told me yes, but I noticed that he was talking about the diagnosis I had 2 years ago and that my condition was mild without taking into account the new things that appear in the recent report. I insisted on this through messages, and asked again if the doctor had seen the recent images. The answer through the Ortho Virginia portal was that he saw my recent images. Well, I confirmed that this is not the case, I am seeing another doctor and the recent report and diagnosis is totally different. Furthermore, what is written in the doctor notes is not true! The notes say that we talked about changes in my lifestyle, that he touched my cervical area, that he looked at the alignment, and that is not true! He only talked about physical therapy and gave me the prescription for that. This to me is not only some kind of malpractice, but also rude in the way he treated me by not caring about my questions and a complete lack of concern for the patient. I will never go to this place again, and I don't recommend it! read more

The doctors and surgery were executed quickly, friendly and efficiently! Getting in for PT appointments is nearly impossible in the Lansdowne office. It is rare to call and connect with a person directly, even if you have the direct extensions. It may take days to get a call back and if you are not available to take the call exactly when they call - the tag game can take weeks (i am currently heading into week 3) before you are able to get an appointment arranged. There are not enough PT experts to support the volume of business for hand and wrist at this location. The PT person i worked with initially was excellent but again - it is rare for someone to pick up the phone to schedule PT appointments. read more

Having been a patient here for many years for different orthopedic issues, I am used to the somewhat chaotic office experience. But today was the worst. I was told to be there at 10:10 and I was there on time in spite of inclement weather. It was only when I got off the elevator did I see the sign that the office did not open until 10:00 today. What I did not realize was that all the patients with appointments before 10:00 were apparently told to just show up at 10:00. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour, watching people who came in before and after me being called back to be seen. At one point, I was the only one in the waiting room and went to the front desk to ask if they forgot about me. They said they had not. I then watched 5 more people come in and be seen before me. There was no call to tell me they were running later and to come in later, nothing. No concern or accommodation that I was there on time for my appointment. It would have been understandable if there were others waiting, but I was the only person who was not seen in a timely manner and many people who came in after me were seen. All of this for a 10 minute appointment for an injection. When I asked to see the office manager, she apparently could not be bothered to come out of her office. Based on my experience, be prepared for office chaos and a lack of caring or concern for your experience as a patient. read more

Very bad experience, the front desc is the worst, they lie, overcharge you and then when you try to call them to resolve the issue they are very rude and hang up the phone. Office manager is not responding to calls and messages. The staff put a cast on me that had to be redone 4 times! Unbelievable and unprofessional. The front desk lady on the PT side is terrible and rude! How awful, don't go here! I had no problem with the actual providers, PT and Dr. Aguilar were fantastic, but getting through the gauntlet of rude gossipy ladies that your required to give all your most personal medical and financial information to are terrible. She is very knowledgeable and does an excellent job communicating the exact nature of the problem, what to expect in the future and what I can do in the meantime. I had probably the worst experience and I don't know what is wrong with the doctors in the DMV . We had a specialist, his name was Dr. Switaj, I kept hearing him talk about how his wife makes the best sweet potato mashed but wouldn't bother to see me unless I wanted surgery. Which isn't even ethical to begin with, we had this P.A. who acted like she was a doctor but wasn't, she went to a measly school, was just a Karen with the purest definition of a Cee. yoU. Next. Thursday. All she cared about was money and how it would cost and was keep mentioning how it was costly and made me so uncomfortable in such a vulnerable state. I don't recommend anyone to go here and they're not ethical and not practicing HIPPA rules. Do not come here unless you want to be verbally abused and hopeless :) read more

My first impression of OrthoVirginia was annoyance at the fact that they were closed January 2nd. I (kind of?) get giving employees in a corporate setting the extra day off, but in my opinion, doctor's offices should be holding themselves to different standards. January 2nd is not a holiday, and some of us rang in the new year by severely injuring ourselves, ok? In all fairness, every ortho in the area had done the same thing, but that doesn't make it any better. Anyway, once I got there, my experience was fine. Standard 30-45 minute wait that I'd expect from any busy doctor's office after a holiday weekend. The waiting room was abnormally hot and bright, but they did have a fish tank that I found quite therapeutic. Who can really be pissed off when looking into the face of a pufferfish? Nobody. I liked the nurse and Dr. Hartley a lot. Both were straight-shooters while still maintaining kindness and professionalism. So they put me in my wildly uncomfortable boot and off I went to go enjoy the next four weeks of my miserable crutches-bound existence. I'll be back in a month for x-rays. read more

OrthoVirginia is a great overall practice. I've been coming here since 2005 when they had a different practice name. They have locations all over Northern Virginia, plus other offices in the state of Virginia. I've seen Dr. Weingold before, he deals primarily with shoulder and knee, I think, issues. He's excellent and works out of the Burke office. I saw Dr. Lane in 2015 after being rear-ended in a car accident. Saw him mainly for a consultation to see if I was a surgical candidate or even needed to consider surgery and he gave me and honest view and wasn't in any rush to cut me open. Yes, they are honest, not looking to do something that isn't needed and just take your money for a procedure you don't need. I like that in a doctor. Yesterday I saw Dr. Laino for an elbow/forearm/wrist problem. First time I had ever visited the Reston office. Arrived early and was taken on time. That's rare these days with doctors, but not typically rare with OrthoVirginia. Over the years with the various doctors I've seen, I never remember waiting much past my appointment time, even when the Fairfax office had a completely full waiting room. Anyway, getting back to the Reston office and Dr. Laino. He came in, I discussed the problem and what caused it. Within moments he diagnosed the problem and made his recommendations. Usually the doctor tells you, but in this case he gave me a choice in what I chose as the first option and we would move on to PT or cortisone later, if necessary. Again, like the previous doctors here, he didn't suggest or even recommend surgery. Though I have read up on the name of the problem I am dealing with and surgery is a last option, its a rarity that it is needed for this type of issue. Rest and not using it is the best course of action, but, yeah right, its my dominant hand/arm, not using it is not an option! Anyway, all offices of OrthoVirginia that I have visited are excellent. Staff is wonderful from the front desk to the nurse who took me back to the physician assistant who literally had everything prepared before the doctor finished with me and the doctor himself. I'm very pleased with my visit and highly recommend visiting this wonderful practice and its many wonderful physicians. The three I mentioned in this review are all excellent, but there are many others who I've received recommendations for but just haven't seen. Check it out! read more

I'm extremely pleased with Dr. Aguilar and his PA, David in Reston Very professional and friendly during my total knee replacement in Jan. 2020. PT was fantastic, as well. Now I have an issue in getting a PT appointments scheduled for another issue. I understand through David that they are extremely busy and there may be a three week wait. I'm okay with that. The issue that I have is no one is answering the PT phone, nor can you leave a message. David was kind enough to go to PT and ask them to call me. No one has called me. Doctor Aguilar is great! The female nurses were not that nice to me when they sent me to get bloodwork, the lab downstairs was closed. So i went back upstairs amd explained it was far for me to come back. They just kept repeating come back tomorrow and didnt realize how far i came from even though i told them. The next day I called the office and got Munser, a nice gentleman who directes me to A Labcorp near me where I could get the bloodwork done. He was nice and helpful. read more

This was my first time coming to this practice although I'd been to their other offices to take care my husband and my dad. Thankfully none of us required anything too intensive for our respective injuries. I was impressed with how quickly they were able to get us in and I was able to see a doctor as opposed to a nurse practioner or a physician's assistant. Overall my doctor was nice definitely had the personality of a surgeon (meaning that he wasn't too engaging) but nice enough. Gave me some options for a course of treatment and wasn't pushy about trying to get me do something that wasn't absolutely necessary. read more
