My daughter came in with a fractured radial head, and our appointment was an utter waste of time, money, and comfort. The nurse proceeded to take off her perfectly functional splint, knowing before Doctor Moody even entered the room that he was unable to do anything for her condition. Despite this, he subjected my young child to multiple, uncomfortable attempts to re-splint her with someone who also looked uncomfortable, achieving nothing but causing distress. We were sent away with zero guidance, no follow-up plan, and no communication about next steps outside of a sheet of paper. The fact that the clinic knowingly went through an entire unnecessary process, charging us for it, is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the financial and follow-up communication has been non-existent. We paid $300 at the time of the visit and have now been wrongfully billed an extra $89. I have called four times and spoken with a live agent who provided a "direct phone number" to resolve this, yet absolutely no one has returned my calls. Ortho Virginia has left us high and dry--not only failing to provide adequate medical direction but actively ignoring repeated attempts to resolve an unjustified bill. This level of negligence and disregard for patient concerns is appalling. We expect an immediate refund for services rendered and for the erroneous extra billing to be dropped.

About three weeks ago, I had an appointment at Ortho Virginia, Reston, in Reston Medical Center. Walking into the fourth floor office, I was hit, Bam!, with a brick wall of sickeningly sweet fragrance. I am asthmatic, like many of you -- and as *some* of you know, air fresheners cause asthma, but also cancer, infertility, immune disorders, and hormone alteration. Some of you don't believe me, so read the studies listed below. They are the tiniest tip of the iceberg. Air-fresheners contain acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, methylene chloride, and phthalates in an aerosolized oil which soaks into your lungs ... yes ... but also your carpet, furniture, walls, and clothing -- these *oil* micro-particles emit long after the air freshener has been unplugged. Why would a *doctor's* office like Ortho Virginia, Reston, not know this ? Sure, they only deal with bones, but to be ignorant of basic toxicology and indoor air quality ? They take our money anyway, though, don't they ? I walked out of my appointment with these simple-minded idiots. Don't you make one to begin with. (A *tiny*, *partial* list of the caustic, toxic-air-freshener-chemical-science, with web addresses. Watch Dr. Yvonne Burkart first, easiest, then move on to the rest. I know, the world is *not* what it seems.) **************************************** Potera, Carol. "Scented products emit a bouquet of VOCs." Had to visit Ortho Virginia and thank goodness my favorite doctor Antonis had availability at the Tysons Office saving me a long drive to Fairfax (he doesn't work at Reston although I hope he will at the new Ashburn location coming soon). My thumb and elbow have been aching for weeks and my chiro suggested imaging done. Located just past Tysons Corner, there is ample indoor parking and a quick visit to upstairs where check-in and out are on opposite sides of the floor ( a bit curious). Fast check-in, imaging and then Dr Antonis with the verdict and his recommendations which I always follow. Great Doctor always taking time to listen and recommend.

    After the replacement surgery.

I was very impressed with Dr. Aguilar and will likely go to him in the future instead of the doctor I've been seeing for 20 years. I'm in my mid-50s and have had a number of knee issues including an ACL repair at age 30 and numerous scopes since then; on both knees. Since I have had so many scopes and have had arthritis diagnosed in both of my knees from previous MRIs and x-rays, I was pretty confident that I had a meniscus tear. My previous doctor, who I have had great confidence in, would've taken a much more conservative approach and sent me to physical therapy. Last year I had a meniscus tear in the other knee and that was his course of action. After two months of physical therapy did not help my knee, the doctor scoped and found three meniscus tears and additional arthritis. So I endured two months of additional pain and the expense of $60 a week for physical therapy for nothing. So I really appreciated Dr. Aguiar accepting what I knew was going on in my other knee. He found a large meniscus tear, and a lot of debris and arthritis. He is fitting me for a knee brace and told me to expect to have a partial knee replacement within the next year. While I usually like a conservative approach when it comes to treatment, I felt that Dr. Aguiar is actually looking for results and not putting the burden of improvement on me; like the other doctor, whose only suggestion was that I lose weight; Dr. Aguiar didn't mention my weight. I think I have found a new knee doctor.

Go somewhere else…read more Although the knee replacement itself was successfully performed, I cannot recommend this surgeon based on my overall experience. Before surgery, I was told that I could expect to regain my normal range of motion. In my case, my normal range was approximately 160 degrees or more. After surgery, the attitude seemed to be that 120 degrees was an acceptable result. Had that expectation been clearly explained before surgery, I would have viewed the decision very differently. More troubling was the postoperative care. His bedside manner was extremely poor. During follow-up visits, I consistently felt that he could not get out of the room fast enough. I was experiencing severe postoperative pain, yet I felt that both he and his PA were largely indifferent to it. Pain medication was prescribed in very small quantities and for short periods despite the severity and duration of my pain. My impression was that avoiding the possibility of dependence was given far greater priority than adequately controlling severe postoperative pain. I experienced what I can only describe as 10-out-of-10 pain, with the first two months being especially brutal. The entire experience left me feeling that my pain and quality of life during recovery were simply not important to this practice. For those reasons, despite the technically successful knee replacement, I cannot recommend this surgeon.

I visited for an acute hand injury and the office verified my insurance before the appointment, but no one informed me that a PCP referral was required for coverage. After the visit, the claim was denied and I was left with a $520 bill that was eventually sent to collections, forcing me to go through months of appeals with my insurer and even the Virginia Bureau of Insurance. During that process it became clear that the claim was submitted as a specialist office visit and not coded as urgent care, even though the visit was for an acute injury. The state review indicated the provider could submit a corrected claim for reconsideration, but the billing office never corrected or resubmitted it. This entire situation could have been avoided with basic communication or proper billing follow-up. If I had been informed upfront that a referral was required, I would have simply obtained one. Patients should not have to deal with collections and regulatory appeals because of administrative oversights and lack of transparency.

Excellent Treatment by Dr. Brita Allgyer…read more I cannot recommend Dr. Brita Allgyer highly enough. Her expertise, pleasant personality, and deep knowledge made a difficult recovery possible after I injured myself in a fitness class. I found Dr. Brita through recommendations of others at my gym, and she was amazing from our first initial consultation and throughout my treatment. I was in significant pain and worried about my mobility, but Dr. Brita gave me an entire treatment plan and things to work on alone so I could positively affect my recovery. She gave me suggestions on how to strengthen other muscle groups to help prevent future injuries, as well. It is rare that a Doctor would take as much time with patients as she does (a full hour with Dr. Brita on each visit). Dr. Brita gives her patients the extra effort to ensure their future health, not just fix what is broken. Beyond her exceptional professional skills, Dr. Brita is an absolute delight to be around. Her friendly, positive, and genuinely warm demeanor made every single session enjoyable. I honestly looked forward to my appointments and often found that the hour was over too quickly because she was such a pleasure to talk to. If you're looking for a physical therapist who combines top-tier skill with a truly wonderful personality, look no further than Dr. Brita Allgyer. She's simply the best!
