Medical care is good. Can't say the same for their billing and administrative. Impossible to resolve or obtain clarity on billing issues. Very aggravating. read more

DO NOT see Dr. Frank Pettrone. He's patronizing, patted my arm and told me to think hard about about having surgery since surgery painful. I was there due to pain and worse, a continued onset of my arm freezing up from, I learned later, a seriously damaged rotator cuff. I'd answered questions about what I thought brought on the pain and freezing. I answered that I'd been moving/lifting my father for 5 years, moving my mother to a new home, racing back and forth 2 hours to be with my kids and family and working part time. learning later that my tendons and muscles were beyond tears, slowly falling away from the shoulder, barely holding the ball in my shoulder socket. If you and others hear grinding everytime you move a joint, see a doctor! Dr. Pettrone's repot read that I the pain that began after "two months after a tennis injury." (When asked about sports, I mentioned that began playing tennis 2- 3 years ago, but rarley play.) I wrote to be sure I had received the right report. No resopnse. At my follow up visit with Dr. Pettrone, to review my MRI and x-rays, Dr. Pettrone brought in with him two medical students without asking my permission. He listened to nothing I said, speaking only with the students. Fortunately, Dr. Petrone no longer performs surgery. I was thrilled! Thankfully, I have a friend, a doctor, who works reading MRI DVDs, x-rays, and much more. It was he that promted me to see Dr. Anthony Avery at OrthoVA immediately, and helped me prepare questions for the visit. Dr. Anthony Avery is fantastic! (more later). I was not willing to ruffle feathers before the surgery as Dr. Pettrone is highly respected in the firm, but the time has come to ruffleI away. I have far less pain and greater range of movement now just over 5 weeks from surgery and begin PT in 3 days. The norm of 2-3 weeks to begin PT following rotator cuff surgery. My time is extended for complete healing as prescribed by Dr. Avery. I can't help but feel both grateful, and that I "dodged a bullet" considering my initial visits with Dr. Pettrone. read more

Our Dr. visit was ok, however when the time came to do the surgery, turns out he wasn't aware that the procedure wasn't FDA approved for the age group of the patient!!! Getting through on the phone to anyone there is quite an ordeal. Be prepared to spend infinite amount of hrs to either hold and leave a message or to go nowhere. They are very good at collecting up front $$$, before surgery, but not at refunding or applying the deposit towards any other pending balance as we won't be proceeding with surgery. Also, the PT arm is absolutely horrible. Stay away. PT scheduling is a nightmare; you can't get through the phone to anyone; PT visits with a therapist are only 10-20 min at most but charge for full hr; if they haven't seen you for a period of time due to their therapist canceling repeatedly they will charge a reevaluation fee even though it's for the same problem and same issue you have been coming all along. It's a practice focused on profits and not on patient's well being! read more

I needed an ortho consult to check my right hand for an injury I had sustained two days prior. They were able to get me in the day I called for availability and met with Dr. Mook. The waiting room was packed! I waited 30-45 min past my appointment time. When I was finally called in, my interaction with the doctor lasted no more than 5 minutes? I had a few questions I wanted to ask however I did not get the opportunity. I guess it was very busy so the doctor was brief. Disappointed? A little because I had high expectations after reading their reviews. read more

Saw DR Madden for a Knee checkup he evaluated the film that I brought to the visit and had me do new follow up X-rays. He is very personable and has great bedside manners. (Listens , funny and provides options and feedback). He won me over and since then this is my place to go. Unfortunately he has retired. read more

Dr. Switaj was great and appropriately treated me for my foot/ankle injury. This practice is receiving one star based on the complete lack of respect the horrendous back office staff had for me (and my three-year-old son) during our visit. The office is part of Reston Hospital Center and being that I have a foot injury, I needed to park my car via valet. Unfortunately, the valet was extremely busy that morning and I had to wait approx. 15 minutes to be helped. No issue there, it was understandable as the valet was very busy. As I waited in valet, I tried to call the OrthoVirginia office to let them know I was downstairs, but I was unsuccessful in getting through to any of the receptionists. Dealing with this type of injury, simple tasks like getting in and out of the car + getting a toddler in and out of the car, aren't exactly easy. My appointment was for 9am. We walked into the office at 9:16am. I apologized for being tardy and explained the bit of commotion going on downstairs. The front desk receptionists were kind and very helpful. They assured me it was no problem and helped me with the new patient sign-in information. Then, my son and I waited. It was busy, there were at least 10-15 patients in the lobby. I watched as all the patients went in and came back out. By 10:20am, the lobby was full of all new people and I was beginning to wonder what was going on. My 3 year old was being so well behaved, for having to sit in a lobby for an hour. I asked the staff at the front desk what was going on. One girl told me to hang on as she went in the back to inquire with her manager. I could hear (and see) her manager being irate with her on the other side of the wall. The girl came back out and said "my manager said you were 20 minutes late so we have to see all the patients that were on time first." The young lady did not look like she wanted to give me that message. It wasn't her fault, but I wasn't too pleased with this manager of hers. When I came in, the receptionists didn't tell me there would be an additional wait for being a few minutes late. Even still, I did know I was running behind, which is why I patiently waited the hour up until this point. Not a single other patient had come in that morning w/ a 3-year old. In fact, only a handful of them had visible foot injuries. I was rolling around with a busted foot on a scooter, with a toddler in tow. This really wasn't cool. The receptionist said, let me go talk to your Doctor's nurse and see what I can do. I thanked her. A minute later she came back, "you'll be the next one they call"! Awesome. I thanked her again & stood by the door that led back to the exam rooms. 4 more people were called. I was still waiting. Now it was almost 10:45am. My 3 year old was starting to complain and even I was getting frazzled. The receptionists were trying everything they could do to help us, but the back office manager controling the patient schedule continued hiding behind the wall, throwing shade and being unhelpful. I think she was just hoping I would walk out, but I really did need to see the Dr. The front desk had a big of wrapping paper wrapped around it as holiday decor. My 3-year-old kept messing with it and at some point around 10:50am he ripped a small piece of it. The nice receptionist said, oh no worries we can tape it - but then the rude office manager made her way up front and proceeded to abruptly scold my 3 year old son for "messing up" the holiday decor. Are you serious lady? You can mess with me, "punish" me for being 16 minutes late to an appointment, but don't ever dare treat my child with disrespect. I firmly asked her not to speak to my son in that manner and she said replied with a rude and negative comment about my parenting abilities. We then exchanged some very inappropriate language and she ended it with walking in the back saying "be on time next time, bitch". Bottomline: It was the most disturbing experience I've ever had in a Drs office. Dr was good, back office staff need to be terminated. I won't be returning. I do not recommend. read more

The doctors are great but the staff not so much. They are rude. Its actually sad when doctors offices with great doctors hire rude people to take care of patients. Im not sure if it is because the doctors are so good they think they can hire cheap help and get away with it or they just dont know the people in the front are being rude to their patients. There is a spanish lady with red hair who snaps at people, Its really sad. I have put up with it so far because the doctor is so good but we will be changing practitioner just so we dont have to deal with her. Note to doctors: People in the front are more important than you think. They are the face and voice of your business. read more

My story was simple. I had a herniated disc, infection and could barely walk with a lot of pain. I was on a walker and was told it was a blood spot that was sitting on the nerve and that it would dissipate on its own. After 2 months of being nearly an invalid, I had made a second opinion appointment with Dr. Mazahery. Extremely glad I did. From the minute he walked in to my appointment he took the utmost care of me. He ordered an MRI and brought me back after the MRI. Immediately noticed an infection had taken hold and was causing the problem. Scheduled me for the surgery just under 3 weeks later. It was worth the wait. I had to have a fusion of the lower 2 vertebrae but that was the only option and I am exteremely grateful to Dr. Mazahery and his staff. Within weeks I was up and walking. I am post op of 1 year right now and everything has healed, I have no restrictions. I got my life back when all was bleek for a while. I cannot thank Dr. Mazahery enough for the care and dedication to my well being. I have since referred a couple of people to him and he has been as ethical as any doctor should be. If you are having back issues or pain, go see him and at least get the real deal about what is going on. read more

NOTE: This review is for physical therapy services only I've been seeing the physical therapists at Commonweatlh's Reston office for almost two months. All of the PTs are great and I really feel like they listen to me and care for my health and rehabilitation. That said, the PT Aides are really the ones who make the experience bearable. Physical therapy is not often a fun endeavor and the aides always manage to lighten the atmosphere and make you laugh. They know everyone by name and manage to be friendly and professional at the same time. There are two reasons I deducted one star. First, it can be difficult to get appointments so I have seen almost every PT there as opposed to getting treated by one only. That's fine, except that there is sometimes a gap in care or a miscommunication and I end up doing the wrong exercise or some such thing It is nothing that has injured me or anything like that, but I would generally prefer to be able to see the same person consistently (which I suppose I could do if I had total flexibility in scheduling, which I do not). Also, one of the PTs has a bad habit of coughing into her hands and then touching patients. I realize that PT is a very hands-on kind of thing, but perhaps she should be wearing gloves or washing up more frequently. read more

Horrible time trying to get an appointment, not even as a new patient! The assistant who handles Dr. Truckses (I think her name is Melissa) is very condescending and rude and acts as if she's doing you a huge favor to get you an appointment. I've been in severe pain for weeks and it took over 48 hours to get a call back from the doctor. There is no customer service here, just large ego's. If I weren't so desperate to see a doctor I'd stay away from this place. No one deserves to be treated like they are less than. read more

My mom had rotator cuff surgery last summer with Dr. Aguilar. This post has nothing to do with the physician, the pre-op, OR and post op staff- all of whom were excellent. The surgery went smooth and all there was well and 5 stars. This review is for the desk staff in the Reston office. Three issues made my mom switch to another practice entirely, despite really liking her physician at this practice. For one- I called on a Friday at 9am to inform them that she was having an allergic reaction to her pain meds and unable to control her pain. My mother has a high pain tolerance, is on no meds and doesn't even like taking Advil for a headache- so when she was so uncomfortable, breathing heavily and with a high heart rate from pain. I called again every hour until 3pm when I had to DRIVE to the office to get adequate pain management for my mother. At which point, after being told to sit down, and that I didn't have an appt and couldn't see anyone, I finally obtained a prescription for pain management for my mom after almost an entire day of excruciating pain. The front desk woman was terribly rude to me and did not care about my mom or her pain. Another issue was a woman named Bobby who my mom was sent to after an appointment to exchange the sling size, and rather than doing that she tucked the top large sling into itself and seemed so put out, and did it angrily and hurt my moms already manipulated shoulder by being aggressive. Third complaint, my mother wanted to use her health savings account to pay for her last visit as it was the end of the year, said she forgot her checkbook for that account at home, and rather than trusting her to send it in (after spending over 7k on that surgery, having a sister, daughter and son who had all spent money on surgeries there) they told her she'd have to reschedule if she wanted to use that account. Out of principal we never returned. As an ER nurse, I would never recommend a loved one go to this office for care. Surgeons- yes, but you don't have access to them after hours or even DURING hours, and watching a loved one in pain and not being able to do anything is terrible. The doctors at Town Center Orthopedics and the front desk and ancillary staff are all wonderful and who I would recommend anyone to now. A shame because there are some great surgeons over at OrthoVA. OrthoVA, please save the generic yelp response of "I'm sorry you had a bad experience". Clearly you are not or you would retrain or rehire better office managers and staff. read more

Would not recommend foot specialist Dr. lutta. He didn't diagnose my problem correctly. Also he charge me $80 for a lace up brace which they submitted to my insurance company, but wouldn't pay for it. Then I bought another brace exactly the same on Amazon.com for $30. So I asked the practice to reduce the price and they had to ask Dr. lutta because he sells the braces. He refused to charge me less. My advice is to check Amazon by scanning the bar code on the box before buying the brace since insurance will not cover many of them. read more

Bottom Line: Outstanding and couldn't recommend Dr. Parker more highly! Commonwealth is a busy office and despite this, they offer outstanding care and have a great business and billing office. The review: Went here to see Dr. Parker because I needed to have my torn hip labrum repaired. DR. PARKER: I can't say enough great things. He is very attentive, a great listener, and has a wonderful positive outlook! He is very concerned about creating a plan of treatment that will get you the results you want (I wanted to be back to running as soon as possible) while also taking your lifestyle (I have three young children) into account. He works WITH you to come up with a plan rather than dictating what will be done. Also, though he is extremely busy with appointments he never seems rushed and will take his time answering all your questions. APPOINTMENTS: I was almost scared away as it was going to take around a month to even get in for a consultation with Dr. Parker. I am so relieved I chose to wait it out!! Don't let the long wait scare you. I used my month-long wait to get some other opinions and it was .... eye opening! I'm now leary of a surgeon who has no wait for office visits! (For example - just skip Dr. Ochiai at Nirschl!!!) Again - SO HAPPY i waited it out to see Dr. Parker COMMUNICATION: Again, I was almost scared off from this practice because to even make your initial appointment you go through a screening of sorts with the doctor's personal secretary. In most cases you cannot get right through to her. You leave a message and she calls you back. I'm an instant gratification person so that was tough for me to get over at first. And then I realized that they strive to get back to you in the same day and are extremely courteous and helpful. Dr. Parker's secretary, Sarah is very helpful, knowledgeable, and nice to deal with overall. SURGERY: I ended up having two surgeries by Dr. Parker (Labral tear repair on both hips). One took place at the Franklin Farm surgical center and one at the Reston Hospital. Franklin Farm was SUPERB and Reston Hospital was good. PHYSICAL THERAPY: Because I live far away from their Reston office I chose to see a physical therapist close to home. I can't account for the physical therapy office there in the reston office but if you need therapy and you're in the Gainesville area go to Results! Three months after having two back-to-back hip surgeries I am running again and I couldn't be more excited about my results. read more

I went to see Dr Mazaheri of Reston orthoVirginia and after literally 2 minutes with him, was told they only do surgeries and since I'm not a good candidate for surgery, go see someone else. Reston office staff needs improvement. - Returning patient. I called 10 minutes prior to an appointment to state I was being delayed by traffic and could be up to 15 min late. My question was: reschedule or proceed? I end up with their central appointments center. I tell them I'm delayed and ask if the doc is behind or on time - if they're running behind my being late might not matter. They tell me to wait while they contact the Reston office. A few minutes later they get back on and say if I'm there by 3:40 for my 3:20, I'll be seen. I arrive just past 3:40. Receptionist tells me the doctor can't see me because he's been 35 minutes behind all day. This makes no sense to me. If I'd been on time, I wouldn't have been seen until 3:55. She then changes tactics and says I was cancelled as a no-show when I didn't arrive at 3:20. I explain I called at 3:10 and was told to try and get there by 3:40. I ask why they cancelled me if they told me to come in. The receptionist tells me I talked to central appointments and they don't know what's going on at Reston. Why have a central appointments line if it's irrelevant. She then repeats that the doctor couldn't se me anyway because he was running 35 min late. Bottom line: they didn't make any sense and they cancelled my appointment 10 minutes after telling me to come on in. Utter. Waste. Of. Time. read more

I mean if the review was of Madden who retired it'd be 5 stars, but having just left a visit with Hartley it's nearly negative all stars. Office is efficient, but the doctor could've cared less about talking to me for even 5 minutes. It was very 1. what do you want 2. don't want to hear anything additional 3. don't care what other doctors have given you to give to me or won't look at it 4. I'll spit something out so you will leave as quickly as you came in. Beyond awful, made me feel terrible for being there and basically won't go back to this practice. I tore my MCL and have been going to this office based on a recommendation from someone I work with. She recommended Dr Thomas but he was filled so I am seeing Dr Hartley. Upon my first visit after being discharged from the ER, i got the feeling from Dr Hartley and his PA that they did not believe me. So the ordered a MRI. Needless to say there really is an issue. Upon my second visit with Dr Hartley, his bedside manner was better. He was quite surprised by the extent of my injury as it was not sports related and very detailed when explaining to me what the issue was. While I do not love this office, I will continue to go because now that the issue is known, there should be no further problems. If i should feel that they do not believe me, i shall look for another ortho. read more

Pretty much each doctor has their own secretary so it can be annoying to schedule appointments calling each secretary individually. Otherwise, very well run office. Everyone is helpful and efficient. I saw two doctors and both were very attentive and answered all my questions. Commonwealth knows what they're doing, but do your research about specific doctors that you want to see. In the end it doesn't matter how much time you spend in the waiting room if the doctor does not do a good job fixing you. read more

I came to check my knees that were slowly giving away with all the tennis. Dr Parker was my man. The wait time was horrible, almost an 90 mins after my appointment time. Dr Parker is really good though, he examined and explained in a very clear manner. He is friendly, casual but very thorough. He gets 5.5 stars read more

Dr. Madden is excellent as a surgeon as well as outstanding in all follow-up visits in the Reston office. I have multiple myeloma, porous bones, had a seizure, "stiff-armed" the floor which broke my humerus into six pieces. Dr. Madden explained what he might be doing (multiple options) at Reston Hospital and fully succeeded it putting me back together with a plate, several screws, and closed with 27 staples! Follow-ups have been both intelligent and humorous. While I was an in-patient in an acute rehabilitation center for a month, with physical and occupational therapists, Dr. Madden wrote lucid prescriptions and also explained to me what he wanted the therapists to do. After I left the rehab center, I was x-rayed at each follow-up appointment and Dr. Madden interpreted and explained each x-ray and set up plans for the next several weeks. Summary: Outstanding doctor -- and person! read more

Without even a phone call, they already sent it to collections (paper bill likely not received given ongoing issues with USPS). Now my family member has a warrant to go to court in April and they are going to have to pay attorneys fees and 18% interest and it is only 3 months out from the appointment. All for a bill that is less than $300. Despicable. read more

I'm unconvinced of the diagnosis I received here and felt dismissed by Dr Paul S. Basically, just told yeah, it just looks colorful, but Im fine to walk on my sprained ankle "whenever I feel ready" and given no timeframe except to come back again in three weeks to decide about PT. Meanwhile it seems to be getting worse, with increased bruising and internal bleeding around my foot and leg and wondering if weightbearing on it is too soon and causing me more damage? He gave me no other advise really and seemed unconcerned and just hurried up to have an assistant give me an expensive $80 lace up ankle brace and get out. Oh, and negative stars for the awful experience getting to and from this office in Reston Hospital. If for no other reason, than the difficulty getting TO the office with an injury this place totally is not worth it. Whoever placed the location of their orthopedist office here is sick. I called in advanced to get directions on best way to get to the office but after 10 minutes on hold on the phone, was just disconnected for no reason, so I parked on the opposite wing from the ER. I crutched my way in only to see a WET FLOOR sign up, and lady mopping the whole floor down. Just perfect. The retirees at the desk tell me, yeah, sorry its a looooong ways from here. Luckily, one of them took pity and offered to wheel me up and over to the office and yeah- it was half the length of the hospital to get there. There was no convenient place to park and valet would have still been far to go and costs $6. On the way out, you would think a wheelchair would have been an option to get back, especially since we're in a hospital after all...nope! The lady at the reception desk in OrthoVA was completely apathetic and just looked at me blankly as she told me, take the elevator down and get a shuttle, yes a shuttle service to my car! I protested and she told me "its right there" and repeated herself. What a joke! So after crutching all the way down and out front of the hospital I had to wait 10 minutes for a shuttle- only to use weight on my bad foot to walk up and down the steps to get onto the shuttle bus. They are professional and caring and always recommended the best solution for my situation. They work well with my insurance company and PT for my recovery. They use the latest technology and methods to assure the best results. They are very knowledgeable about the use of Robotic surgery and this was successfully used in my knee replacement surgery. I have used the locations at Reston, Fair Oaks and Franklin Farms Road. read more

First...I have been a patient of OrthoVirginia (formerly Commonwealth Orthopedics) for ~25 years. I have had 2 knee surgeries, 1 wrist surgery, a broken foot, broken hand, herniated discs, and countless cortisone injections over the years. I *really* like my doctor (Dr. Hartley), but I am BEYOND done with their office. The office is HORRIBLE at supporting any insurance requirements (for the record, I have Blue Cross, which is not some off the wall weird insurance), I can NEVER get through to a human (even if I do, that person can never help and just transfers me to vmail every time - and I'm lucky to get a response within 48 hours). Every request, requires you to jump through hoops and takes DAYS or WEEKS to resolve. Example #1: Last fall, I logged over 60 HOURS of phone calls on 17 PAGES of notes to get insurance approvals for a knee injection. To be fair, plenty of the issues were due to Blue Cross, but the office screwed up several times, which is what caused all the confusion with the insurance, and OrthoVirginia took no responsibility for their actions and were of little/no help. It wasn't until I literally broke down in tears (after several WEEKS), when my case got escalated to someone that could help. Example #2: Fast forward to now...I'm preparing for a total knee replacement surgery this spring. Right off the bat, I was given a script with STRICT instructions to only go to the address on the script for a CT Scan of my knee (special software is req'd that is not available at other imaging centers). After HOURS of calls and physical office visits, I discovered the address on the script is wrong, and the imaging center ended up being out of network anyway. REALLY? The practice is in network, the hospital center is in network, but the ONLY imaging center is not?? Lastly, my insurance wants me to get a 2nd opinion, and I was lucky to get an appt in a timely manner, but I need to bring a copy of my medical records. I figured no problem, cause I had a whole week, right? WRONG. When I called last week, all I got was an answering service that said the office was closed for training and they could not take a msg. So I call back today, only to discover they require you to go to their website, download forms, FAX them in (who the hell has a fax these days? I certainly don't!), which then go to a 3rd party, who then processes the paperwork and MAILS the records. This is a multi week process! Good lord, I was JUST THERE and saw my file. In retrospect, I wish I had asked to make a copy of it right then and there. At this point, given how difficult EVERYTHING is in this office, I am probably going to end up going to find another surgeon for my TKR. This is a traumatic surgery, and if it is this hard already, I have ZERO confidence that *anything* will go smoothly if I stay with these guys. Bottom line: The doctors may be great, but the practice treats you like a number, not a human, and the overall experience can be absolutely horrific. read more

I saw Dr. Mook and have had the pleasure working with the PT staff there. Face it, this day and age everyone is looking for an easy fix. We want a pill or a cortisone shot (which I did once and it helped so much to start me off) to take away the pain and we don't want to actually heal our bodies. Dr. Mook is all for taking the least extreme rout in healing and listened to my over all physical goals. I was told to stop working out, stop playing golf, and to limit my weight to no more than 10lbs when lifting. I had a fractured collarbone with bone edema caused by lifting too much weight. I was popping more than 8 Advil a day, using cbd oil, and every other over the counter remedy I could. If I didn't stop lifting, I was going to have to have surgery to shave down the collar bone. That was motivation enough to do everything I could to prevent surgery. I am not saying it was easy. I gave up something I loved to let myself heal. I gave up 2 years of hard work. I started PT at ortho about 2 weeks after diagnosis. I started hopping back and forth between Danielle and Christopher. Love Danielle. She is so great at what she does and is super concerned with any type of pressure or pain she could cause when working you out. I made my full time PT Christopher. He is awesome and coming from a lifting background, it was nice to learn more about my muscular skeletal anatomy. He is thought, not going to lie. He pushed me when I lacked confidence that my body was able to do something. We learned we had mutual friends in common and I was able to really relax about being there. The other PT techs are awesome. The moment I step into door they know me by name, know what workouts I have come to loath, and ask me about other aspects of my life. You ready feel included, you get to listen to good music, and its an all around team there. It's very light hearted environment. It has to be, they are constantly putting people's injured bodies through a lot in order to heal them. If you think that's unprofessional, don't let the door hit you in the way out. Now I am cleared to lift light weights again and to play golf. I am able to do a plank or push-up with little to no pain in my shoulder. I thought I was never going to live without the pain. I accepted it for so long. But now I feel back to normal. Yes, I will be that girl at the gym doing light weights high reps and using the elastic bands. But damn I worked my butt off to get to that point. I cannot thank my physical therapy team enough! read more

Several weeks ago, my wife made an appointment for me to see the Dr. About an hour and 5 minutes prior to my 10 am appointment on Dec. 4, I received a call from the Drs. office letting me know that there were some complications as a result of the doctors daughter falling ill. The lady informed me that it was unlikely that the appointment would occur on time but I should come on time anyway. I asked her what the probability of me being seen in a reasonable time would be and what the probability of being seen at all would be. She said that she couldn't answer either. I had a busy work day and a flight to catch in the early afternoon and asked her what my options were. She said that I could come in and wait or they would be glad to reschedule my appointment. BUT she couldn't reschedule. Melissa, Dr. Trucksess' secretary would have to do that and that I would receive a call from her in order to reschedule. I couldn't take a chance and said that I would like to reschedule. As of Monday, Dec. 7. at noon I had not received that call. So I called and spoke to someone whom offered me an appointment on January 9 of 2016. I explained the situation and let her know that I was in pain and that there should be a way to be seen earlier because my appointment was effectively canceled by their office. I was told that I would need to speak to Melissa and was transferred which went to voice mail. I left a message and waited an hour and a half and called back and spoke to the same lady that offered me the Jan. 9 appointment and said I had not heard back and had been expecting a call since Friday the 4th. She insisted that I speak to Melissa. I explained to her that wasn't working as Melissa could not be bothered to call and set a new appointment. I begged this lady for another option and finally resorted to giving her my cell phone number and suggesting that she call Melissa and express my dissatisfaction and frustration and that if I didn't hear back from her, I was going to reach out to social media and any other venue I could find and share my story. I gave her my number and said that I would appreciate a call back from someone that could assist and said goodbye. Within two minutes Melissa called me and proceeded to rip me a new one. She completely pushed all of this onto me saying that I had cancelled the appointment. Not once did she apologize or even acknowledge the circumstances that had led to these phone calls. Nor did she offer an apology or explanation for not getting back to me on Friday or even Monday. I honestly believe that she was never going to call. Melissa wanted to fight, not get me an appointment. She was belligerent and hostile. This lady has no business in a professional practice that cares about its patients or its reputation. I told her what I thought and hung up. An hour later I received a call from a very nice lady that wanted to help. I told her that I had no interest in seeing that Dr. nor visiting that practice ever as a result of the treatment I received by Melissa. She was very kind and allowed me to tell my story. She agreed that i should have had a phone call on Friday to reschedule and that no one should be treated as I was. She was willing and able to reschedule me but I can't support a health care practice that has aggressive and hostile employees. There are other doctors. Prior to posting this review, as I wasn't sure I was going to, I read another review which must be about Melissa who is "the secretary". At the end of it all I can only offer to beware of how you will be treated. My guess is like a piece of trash.... read more

This is my second time using OrthoVA, my first experience was fantastic with Dr. Klein. When my son was hurt again 2 years later, I told the ER to refer me back because my experiences was so pleasant in the past. When I called for his hip to be checked post ER Dr. Klein was booked for 2 weeks so I decided to try Dr. Hartley. Huge mistake,HUGE! He was short, rude and very judgmental. From the other reviews I am reading it looks like this is just how he is during visits. Use OrthoVA but I would choose a different doctor especially if you are a parent who has questions. Rating for office/appointment staff only.... As other reviewers have said - I couldn't plow through the bureaucracy to make an appointment. "New Patient" voice mail choice gets recording that the average wait time on hold is ..."Sixteen minutes". Hung up and tried anything else - 0, refill prescription, question, etc., and all I ever got was "leave a message on voice mail". If this is how they treat new customers, I"m not interested. read more

I've been a patient of Commonwealth Orthopaedics for five years now. I had surgery on my right hip and then my left. Dr. Parker and the staff there were extremely helpful and always answered my questions and concerns. Their Reston office is hit or miss with wait times. I'd say most of the time I only waited 10-15 minutes but there were a few times it was much longer. Still, the friendly staff always made me feel it was worth it. If you have FAI I recommend Commonwealth and definitely Dr. Parker. read more

They had me in and out very quickly and everyone was very nice at the office. The only problem I had was that they were unable to locate my paperwork that I faxed and confirmed a week before the appointment. They had my chart but no paperwork was in it. Luckily I had brought an additional copy. Besides that the staff was friendly, quick and efficient. read more

Went for my first visit today to get a neck/spine evaluation. Overall, very good experience. A few things stood out: (1) there was a ton of paperwork, but they have it online and gave the option for me to fill it out before arrival. I hate filling out a bunch of paperwork at a doctor's office, so the option to do it prior to arrival was nice. (2) I saw Dr Trucksess. Very sharp, clearly knows what she is doing. Friendly and listened effectively. (3) The only downside: I had an 8:10 am appointment -- the first available -- but still ended up waiting 25 minutes before being called from the waiting room. Not great, but not a deal-breaker given the quality of care. (4) Nicely run office. Check-out was very quick/smooth. read more

I was sort of surprised by all the negative reviews of this place. I first went there about 5yrs ago with a shoulder injury which was treated with PT in house. This week, I managed to hurt my left knee, called them Wed and was given an appointment this morning. Online portal makes it easy to enter any stuff thus avoiding paper forms. I showed up 15 mins early and was checked in and back in a room within 5 minutes. Dr Fleeter came in within 2 mins with several helpers (a new doc in training, who he used to bounce off possible diagnosis with to see if she could guess the problem). A quick discussion and exam and it confirmed tendonitis on the patella tendon. They set me up with PT which I start next week. Everyone was friendly and I didn't feel rushed or just a number/quota or any of what some of you other reviewers wrote up. read more

The staff at the Shrader Rd office was very prompt and knowledgeable. Dr. Kump was patient and answered all of my questions. I was amazed that I was able to be registered, and meet with the nurse, have x-rays completed and be evaluated by a doctor within 50 minutes. I did not feel rushed at all. I had an atypical cartilage tear in my knee and saw Dr. Hartley about it. He was nice, got straight to the point, and was clear and concise about the problem as well as possible remedies. Ultimately, my knee was scoped and he was the surgeon. The procedure went very smoothly and the recovery process has been steady and positive. I will definitely go back if I ever have any other injuries or othopaedic issues! read more

The physicians are great. However, I had to take my mother for a follow up appointment and we waited ONE HOUR to see the physician's assistant. That is awful customer service. If a physician falls that far off schedule, a courtesy call to the patient advising of the delay would be appreciated. There is no excuse for this lack of concern for a patient's time. It is far more comfortable for a patient to wait at home instead of sitting in uncomfortable waiting room chairs. Poor service. read more

I could not have asked for a more pleasant visit with the doctor; I had filled out the forms online, but I ended up filling out a duplicate form or two before I stopped and asked at the desk. She gladly took what I already had. They were very nice considering I was 20 mins. late due to traffic. But when I got to talk to Dr. Madden, he actually let me talk and...HE LISTENED!!! He listened to the entire account of my injury before he looked at my MRI. Then, in light of my symptoms we looked at the MRI and found what I had suspected. He wrote a prescription for me, and the very next day I could bend my knee. This is particularly wonderful in light of my experience with another doctor I had visited elsewhere (see less glowing review...) Anyway, I would recommend Dr. Madden anytime--so long as you don't get an appointment before I do! read more

I would give them a sixth star if I could! I have visited this practice for three different issues over the last seven years and have been 100% satisfied each time. I probably had a total of 12 appointments and only had one hiccup where they misplaced my chart while I was waiting, This resulted in my waiting close to two hours for my appointment., Once they realized my chart was picked up by accident somewhere, they took me back, gave me an exam I needed and gave me the shot I needed AND they deleted to cost of the appointment since I waited so long. I have been here for my knees, an ankle and a hip and I am now a fully functioning, active person. So I'm a bit ticked at the moment and would have given them one star, except that I actually liked the therapists and the physical therapy I received at the location in Herndon -- it's their business model and policies I have a problem with. If you have two "no shows" they cancel all your other appointments and discharge you. Period. No explanations. No extenuating circumstances. You can "appeal to the director" -- as if you'd want to bother after they treated you like that. Do they verbally explain this policy to you? No. It's in the fine print of the paperwork you sign. Do they warn you the first time you don't show, that a second no show will result in your automatic discharge? No. Do they make sure that they have up to date numbers to contact you?
