I've always had a slight overbite, which made my bite alignment off too. The overbite makes my side profile less than ideal, and having a stressful job in tech, I grind my teeth at night, and the poor bite alignment accelerates how quickly my enamels wore off. Finally, in my 40s, I decided to "bite the bullet" and get my bite fixed. I interviewed six clinics in detail to understand their treatment plans, and it became clear that there are two camps - those that use traditional metal braces and those that use Invisalign. After much research, I was convinced that the latter approach is best, as the metal braces route requires doctors to adjust braces manually to apply force to teeth, which is inaccurate and results in much back and forth correction that results in unnecessary pain. Also, the risk of gum retraction is high as the result of too much or incorrect force applied to teeth. I like that Invisalign images my teeth and plots out a succession of retainers using software, so it's always moving my teeth in the right direction, no effort wasted. I don't have to suffer to get the work done, and I also don't have to look ridiculous while it's being done. What surprised me is that the time it takes is the same whether it's metal braces or Invisalign. I've included photos of my retainers to give you a sense of how Invisalign works. You pick up a whole bunch of them and use a new set per week to slowly move your teeth. The costs of Invisalign is also quite a bit less. I found two highly rated Invisalign clinics, and I chose Orthoworks because it has a better staff, better cost structure, and most importantly, much better doctors. I am especially grateful to have Dr. Ma as my doctor. She is highly intelligent, thoughtful, patient, and truly cares about a patient. She answered my long list of questions in great detail, with sincerity, honesty, and transparency. I've been with her for a year now, and I am even more impressed with her now as I got to know her as a person. Very few doctors would call a patient back to answer questions, and Dr. Ma is one. She cares, and she demonstrates it with action. In this busy world where everyone is a type-A, especially here in Silicon Valley, Dr. Ma stands out as a breath of fresh air. It is rare to find someone so accomplished yet down to earth, and her kindness and compassion for her patients are palpable. I am so grateful that I have her as my doctor. Recently though, in a visit to the Sunnyvale clinic, Dr. Shen took over a visit, and the visit was much less pleasant. He asked me, "do you have any complaints or outstanding issues?" and since I didn't say anything, he quickly concluded that my treatment is done and that I should move to retainers. It was an odd visit, to say the least, because I know I have at least 16 more Invisiligns to wear to correct crooked teeth! I believe Dr. Shen was in a rush to usher me out of the door because as patients, we pay for the work in full upfront, so the longer our treatment takes, the less profitable we become. I understand that he wants to increase the clinic's profitability, but I do not appreciate that he's putting his desire for profitability ahead of patient care. A week later, I decided to call the clinic, and this time I very specifically made sure that I would be seen by Dr. Ma. Thankfully, I was able to meet with Dr. Ma, and she resumed my treatment plan and gave me another set of 16 Invisiligns. I will post an update again once the treatment concludes, but it was a relief that Dr. Ma continued my care so my treatment was not abruptly cut short. read more

THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING! Professional, and not highway robbery. Their cost is more than fair. Staff is friendly and social. Referral was by word of mouth just like most people who have been here or go here. My daughter had bumped loose her two front teeth when she was about 6. Immediately at our first appointment Alma greeted us with a welcoming smile and handshake and made my son feel comfortable. We then met with Dr.Shen who is very welcoming and knowledgeable and answered every question we had (as we were being seen elsewhere for ortho treatment). He was able too clear up all question and concerns about my sons ortho treatment and immediately I knew OrthoWorks San Bruno would be the best choice to purse ortho treatment. orthoworks is a great place if you are looking for a place to do braces. Though they may be busy, they always have an awesome service and welcoming staff! The first time I went to Orthoworks I was shown around the place, basically they take you on a tour before you go on to let you get to know the place and how it runs. It's been 2 years now and I got my braces off about 6 months ago and I am satisfied with my teeth. Trust me, it's worth it. It sucks that I didn't get some of the people's names because they were great talking to. every time i went there, they would always start cool conversations with you like, "Oh, nice shoes." or how school was or simply a how was your day greeting. heck, some even told about issues that they were facing and that way it stayed a win win situation. basically the staff was super nice and a very diverse community. I was happy at first , but after talking with others in regards to my experience they are a BIG R- -I-P-O-F-F ......the staff is nice , but the person that handles the financial papers in the start of the Process is fake , rude ..and not pleasant in my experience ...the staff and doctors are VERY nice ..I have to say ...BUT they will keep getting you for all these "Hidden " Fees ..ok , maybe they are in the contract ...but its in the small print and they use any way they can to extract more $ , several x-rays , late fees , cancell fees , this and that ...they pissed me off and gave me no mercy ..EVEN after I paid in full cash for my treatment they claimed I need more work after I was contracted to pay a flat fee ...then they got rude and defensive when I rasied concerns ...RIP OFF ! trust me , go there yourself and pay cash ..youll see read more

I actually go to the one in Hercules but still a GREAT place~!:D The people are AWESOME and sooo nice! :) At first i was scared at all the stories my friends told me... Like how much it hurts.... but when i got there to get me braces, suprisingly it didnt hurt as much as it seems.... haha They are still trying to fix my underbite and crooked jaw(uneven)=uneven bite. But hopefully soon it will be fixed! :) Also Appointments are quite easy to plan and the waiting time is so little.... like i get there sign in and a few minutes later they call my name! The best place to get orthodontic treatment is Orthoworks in San Bruno! It's a professinal, friendly, knowlegeable, and RELIABLE! Last year I had gotten my braces off, treatment went by really fast! I had them on for almost 2 years. The dental assistants were awesome! Always had warm welcoming smiles. Always brighten up my day. Every visit was quick and easy. I felt very comfortable with the staff and the enviorment. One of my teeth still needed more work and my treatment had been delayed. Since the San Bruno office is much closer to home, I had decided to come to this office to finish up my treatment with Dr. Yoon as she was extremely helpful. Every time I walk into OrthoWorks I feel at ease because I've never experienced any problems with any of their customer service, nor have I experienced any problems with my treatments or my payments. All the employee's are very friendly and welcoming, and not to mention the doctor's are keen to pay strict attention to detail for every one of their patients which is really nice because most other doctors hardly care about you after you're gone. Just yesterday a friend from Burlingame asked me where my kids got braces for their teeth, this brings back memory from 3 years ago when my older kid needed his braces. On the recommendation of his dentist, we when to David. He gave us a warm and thorough intro to what my son needs, 30 minutes later, we came out smiling, knowing that we have come to the right place. Very friendly office. I took my son for the first time for a consultation the other day and the staff was very friendly and explained step by step on what's best for his situation. My whole family gets our orthodontic needs here. I'm 21 years old and just recently started with my clear braces and the staff are so friendly and respectful. I love having conversations with the assistants everytime I go in. The office is very clean and time efficient. I love how they ask you to be no later than 15 minutes late because its respectful for the other patients as well. I've been going to Orthoworks for several months, and they are awesome! All of the employees are super nice. I'm an adult, so getting braces at my age made me a little nervous, but everyone there has made me feel so comfortable.
