Sold 4 Stars for Orto in MP. I also found out during my visit that Trattoria and Orto used to be related until Trattoria broke it off and went on their own. Initially my mom and I were trying to get into Trattoria this past Wednesday night (and since it's closer) we were unable to. Thankfully to this trusty Yelp app I was able to score a reservation here at 6:30p. Unfortunately there was a TON of traffic on 347 so I went up taking side roads down N. Belle Meade and Sheep Pasture cause 347 wasn't moving. Fortunately my co-pilot called and told them we were running late and they said not to worry. After arriving at 6:48p we saw that we were safe and no worries on the reservation department. We ordered the following: - Meatballs Braised in Tomato with Polenta: as an appetizer and quite good. Honestly I felt their Polenta portion was a little bigger than Trattoria. - Eggplant Parmigiano: my dinner. They said it was cold because the house is old (built in 1824). A lame excuse at the expense and comfort of paying customers who they insist must pay in cash. This evening I had the pleasure of eating at one of the finest authentic Italian restaurants on Long Island. Yes, the website says "Italian-American" cuisine, but rest assured, the Italian is indeed authentic. The restaurant is located in a renovated old home with a quaint red brick walk, an old clapboard airlock, and a small entrance area leading to an expansive back dining area. While our waitress and busboy were nothing short of excellent, I would recommend sitting in the smaller dining area - located on the left side upon entering. The room much quieter than the main dining hall. If your party is large but under ten in size, consider the larger table on the right side of the entrance, there is only one table in the small room. This restaurant is what I consider to be boutique eatery: the menu is small but refined, the wine list fits the entrees and the cocktails' list is just right. Apropos of the wine list, the restaurant does permit patrons to bring their own wine. I recommend opening the wine at home at letting it air, this way it will be ready when dinner arrives. Something to keep in mind, there is no cork fee! Even though you can bring your own bottle of wine, the wine list, as I said, is comprehensive and price wise, the cost is in line with the cost of the meal. Nonetheless, if you want to save yourself a few dollars, then by all means, bring your own wine. If you want to shave another 20% off the bill, go to Costco to get a coupon. If you are not yet a member of Costco, getting the discount coupon is another excellent excuse to join. Speaking of money, the restaurant does not take credit cards, cash or checks only. Trust me, it is worth the trip to the bank. I recommend having a reservation, parking is extremely limited and seats in the the "Orto" fill up very quickly. There are three ways to order: Pick three, pick four or put together your own choices. I chose to choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert as my "pick three.' Starting a with the 'Fritto Misto di Mare' - a sampling of fresh calamari, clams, mussels, etc. My wife ordered the 'Bucatini Cacio e Pepe.' Any self respecting Roman would end up passing by such a dish. WRONG! The bucatini were appropriately seasoned and cooked perfectly al dente. Fortunately, I sampled the dish. The best, bar none, cacio e pepe I have eaten outside of a Roman trattoria in Trastevere. The 'fritto misto' was very good as well. As an entree my wife ordered the duck. Excellent choice demonstrating the kitchen's familiarity with American fare with the same ability as the Italian. I ordered the 'Mafalde Bolognese.' Another hit! Did I mention the pasta is made fresh daily? For dessert my wife ordered a butter cake with pear and gelato. My wife decided on the pistacchio while I, having ordered the same cake, chose the chocolate. Once again the chef hit his mark. The cake was buttery and warm while the chocolate chip gelato burst flavor into the mix. My wife sampled my chocolate while I tried her pistacchio. Either choice was fantastic. My wife ordered American coffee and I a cappuccino. The cappuccino was dark, robust and packed with flavor. The American coffee arrived in a four cup French press carafe. I could not think of a better way to end a wonderful meal. In conclusion, fantastic meals, incredible desserts and excellent coffee all at a price point that will not break the bank. Orto - I've driven past this place a zillion times up on 25A and finally made the reservation to pop in with my wife. The interior is warm and welcoming. Lotsa wood and soft on the eyes. BYOB is not only an option but Orto appears to be prepared for it as the wait staff seem to be ready to drop off your corkscrew without the StinkEye you get from other BYOB's. The food was exceptionally good - Burrata for my wife, meatball app for me. 3 meatballs - the sauce and ricotta that came with it was better than the balls. Dinner-wise I got the briacola, my wife got the lasagna. The service is excellent. I want to say our waitress's name was Karen but I could be wrong (tall, short, dark hair). It was restaurant week and my friends and I decided to give Orto a try! A nice cozy restaurant made from what seems like an old house. Waited at the bar for our friends to arrive at our reservation time and bartender was very nice. After we finally sat to eat, we were excited to try anything on the menu. I ordered the burrata for appetizer and it was very tasteful with balsamic glaze on it. Next up was the butternut squash ravioli, also delicious. My dinner was the marinated veal flank steak. The sauce it was served in was very good! Dessert tiramisu was recommended and enjoyed by the entire table! I always leave early when I travel to places on the North Shore, traffic is usually an issue. Parking was ok but wishing the lot was a bit more up to speed with the restaurant. There are a limited amount of spots, so you may need to park on the street during busy times (free street parking). I loved the decor here. Gave me Rustic Farmhouse Vibes. Such a romantic place with the dim lighting and candles on each table. Reservations were simple, was able to book online. I actually arrived about 20 minutes early, I planned for lots of traffic but lucked out. I was seated immediately. The Hostess was welcoming. Came on a Tuesday Night and there were only a few tables occupied. I recommend coming on a weeknight for a nice and relaxed meal with no crowds. CLOSED MONDAYS The Prices were AMAZING for what I received! Picking between the 3 or 4 Course... not a shock I picked the 4. I love trying as much as I can when I visit a restaurant to see what they have to offer. I recommend the 4 Course. The portion sizes were perfect. Amazing Veal Dish! 5 out of 5 stars -Hanger Steak: Served with Mashed Potatoes & Greens. The Steak was juicy and perfectly cooked. Lots of flavors from this dish and the portion of meat was fantastic. The mashed potatoes so were buttery. 5 out of 5 stars -Banana Creme Brûlée Cake: Decadent Cake! I really enjoyed this dessert. The bananas weren't mushy but instead still had a little bite to them which I loved. The portion was just enough to be satisfying without being overwhelming. 5 out of 5 stars -Donuts with Warm Chocolate Sauce: I have seen quite a few pictures of these donuts on Yelp so naturally I had to order them! So glad I did. They were sweet and pillowy. The chocolate sauce wasn't overly sweet which went well with the donuts. My boyfriend and I were regulars at Orto at least once a week for about 7 months and sadly stopped going because of the extremely rude and condescending wait staff, hostesses and ESPECIALLY the female bartender who lectured us on how she likes to run her bar after we ordered apps while waiting for our table to be ready. We arrived 45 mins before our dinner reservation and sat at the bar while we waited. We were STARVING so we ordered an appetizer. The bartender became very agitated, mumbling under her breath about us having reservations- and angrily huffed over to the hostesses to "inform them" we were eating at the bar. We explained to her (again) that we were only ordering one app bc we had a long wait and asked if we broke some kind of rule against ordering APPETIZERS at the bar while we wait (we felt like we did something wrong) and her response: "I run my bar a certain way and have done so for YEARS". Another time we took 2 seats at the bar that were offered to us by another couple after standing patiently with our drinks for about 10 minutes. As we sat, she takes both of our drinks and place settings and shoves it down the bar saying "Can you please give these people (3 women sitting next to us) some room? They're crowded in here!" It didn't seem to be a problem when the previous couple was sitting- only when we sat. We won't be back again as this kind of rude attitude has sadly been consistent across the board. Even the wait staff is short, inattentive and god FORBID someone smiles or makes eye contact! I even emailed the manager Eric and got no response. read more

We had not been here in quite a few years as the menu was small and not getting us excited about eating dinner there. A couple months ago we went back with our friends who come here frequently, and I must say everything we had was wonderful. I love a good fish dinner, prepared with fresh herbs and cooked just right so that the fish is tender which is not always easy to get! We have been back to auto twice since and every time it has been wonderful! Thank you again to Ron and Lisa for bringing us back to this wonderful local space. We ate at Orto in November for LI Winter Restaurant Week, and really enjoyed our experience at this authentic Italian spot. You're able to bring your own wine, which is lovely, but heads up - they do not accept debit or credit cards, so make sure you have cash or your checkbook on you. The service was good, if a bit slow...we were left sitting and waiting a lot, most likely due to the crowds of Restaurant Week. The food more than made up for our wait, though, and is right up any foodie's alley: Appetizers: I got the Risotto Balls Stuffed with Bolognese, which were a perfect combination of crisp and creamy. My husband chose the Crisp Farm Egg over Creamy Polenta with Bacon Jus, which was exceptional. Pasta: I enjoyed the Squid Ink Pasta with Spicy Shrimp and Baby Clams. There was a generous amount of fresh shrimp and clams, and the squid ink pasta was absolutely perfect. My husband opted for the Pappardelle Bolognese, which was rich and delicious. We were both starting to get pretty full by this point. Entrees: I am not a pork person, but I took a chance on the Pork Milanese with Taleggio Semolina and Bacon Jus and am soooo happy I did. The pork was amazingly succulent and tender. My husband went for the Duck Cacciatore and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dessert: We were so full by the time dessert came around that we couldn't eat another bite, so we asked for it "to go." A few hours after we got home and could eat again, we tried Donuts with Warm Chocolate Sauce. I can only imagine how good these would be if eaten right away, because they were absolutely decadent a few hours later! The donuts were beyond fresh, and the rich chocolate sauce complemented them perfectly. The chocolate almond cake was also a winner. Overall, Orto was great. We had previously been to Kitchen A Bistro (Orto's sister restaurant, which has since sadly closed), so we had a feeling we were in for some very fine dining and were not disappointed. We found the four course menu to be a great value. The spaghetti with shrimp was the highlight of our meal. It's a bit annoying that it is cash only. In a covid society handling cash is a bit off putting. There is no substitution which closed off 70% of the menu to us, if this must be the case i would suggest not putting pancetta on everything. Orto has a huge place in my heart for Italian food. It's a gem in Long Island. Interior: Orto is styled as a country house and once you enter it you feel like you've escaped into a romantic, dimly lit cabin. The area is spacious and you never feel like you're situated only a few inches away from whoever else is eating. Food: The food is absolutely delicious. We ordered the tuna tartare to start, which was fresh and delicious. The Squid Ink Corzetti with Cod, Spring Garlic, and Chilies was delicious, but I think the star of the meal was the duck. The Duck with figs tasted absolutely delicious and would definitely be one of the reasons we'd come back for more. For dessert we had tiramisu, which we weren't a fan of but ultimately the duck dish won us over. Service: All of the waiters were incredibly attentive, which we really appreciated. My sisters made a 7 pm reservation for the four of us. It was my 70th birthday and a few days later, my husband's and my 50th anniversary. We arrived a few minutes early and the hostess told us our table was being set up. At 7:25 I asked how our 7 pm reservation was coming along. No attitude, not raising my voice. Just informational. Shortly after that a different employee came barreling towards us to say, in a nasty way, that our table would be available shortly. It was almost 7:30. We were seated. A server introduced herself and handed us menus. I said, we'd like to order some cocktails, and she walked away. We waited about 15 minutes more. A young man brought bread to the table. I told him we would like to order cocktails. The young man walked to the hostess and the other woman who told us our table was being prepared. No one came to accommodate us. We got up and I told the hostess that we were leaving. My husband and I have enjoyed Orto in the past. We chose Orto for what should have been a very special evening. We did indeed have a special evening after we left. We headed for Savino's Roadhouse and had a wonderful meal with great service and no attitude. read more
