As a former employee of this store, I will warn you that I am a little biased. I've been with the company for about 4 years and I managed to stay long enough to help open a beautiful new store. For those of you unfamiliar with what Orvis is, it is the country's oldest catalog based retailer and specializes in traditional mens and ladies clothing, fly fishing gear, and wing-shooting paraphenalia. If you are into any of those things, or know someone who is, the new store has plenty of toys. The staff are outstanding, albeit slightly less handsome and charming since my leaving. Anything related to the above mentioned sports is available through the store including guided trips and gift items. Shannon, the fishing manager is eager to get everyone involved in both fly-fishing and hunting and has to be one of the most knowledgable, and friendly guys I've ever met. The rest of the guys aren't too shabby either. Anyway, it is with slightly bittersweet nostalgia that I write this review. I'll kind of miss the place and the people. read more

A very excellent experience. I have a suitcase that is nearly 30 years old. It was in need of some repair, broken handle and damaged pocket. The manager saw me right away and shipped off for me. Orvis honored their lifetime free repair pledge, emailed me they had my item and returned it 2 weeks early. I will continue to shop there...might even book my next fly fishing through their service. Incredible store with the best service! We were looking for a Barbour jacket and left another Buckhead store empty handed due to very busy sales help and not many employees. When we walked into Orvis we were greeted immediately and given all the information we needed to make a great choice. It's Orvis so obviously they have great fly fishing equipment but they also have several employees who are very knowledgeable about the local fishing locations and what's currently hatching. Great fly selection and unlike most Orvis stuff, not too expensive. Can't wait for their Alpharetta location to open in the new Avalon shopping center. read more

This review applies to May 15. I am a frequent customer. I was very disappointed with the male employee (red beard) customer etiquette. I far consider myself privileged but as an older gentleman I resent being called "bub"!! I should have put him in his place. "Sir" would be the appropriate reference. I attended their 101 fly school. It was for two hours and was free. Even though I am an intermediate, it was still very helpful! It was put on by 2 local Orvis guides Chase and Justin and a knowledgeable fly fisherman, Jackson. After it wrapped up, Justin went beyond what was needed to ensure I was set up to have a successful day on the water and I did! read more

I am unsure how this business has lasted so long. Orvis makes classic outerwear and travel bags. They have some nice fly fishing equipment, but in comparison to the sporting-goods industry as a whole they are becoming a less and less popular brand. The items they offer are overpriced; unless you have grown-up with this brand it is difficult for this company to obtain you as a new customer. I say that because they are outrageously priced. The price point which typical fly-fisherman and wing shooters shop at is naturally higher and they expect to get high quality products which last a long time. I just don't think that quality is in these products as it was a decade ago. I am obviously not an expert, but I would recommend shopping at another retailer to get the best product for the cost. read more

Two years in a row during November / December , waited 15 minutes while sales persons folded clothes, stayed behind the counter, totally ignoring my presence . I made long looks in their direction while they seemingly had more important work to do than acknowledging me. Ready to spend, spend, spend, but walked out. Bought from other vender on line. I had just received a 10wt, rod and reel made by Redington as a gift. I am a beginner fly fishing enthusiast, bought Orvis books for fly fishing, read all kinds of Fly fishing articles to familiarize myself with the fly fishing jargon. I was ready to go buy myself, flyline,leaders, tipets,and flies for fishing Bass in our local lakes. What a disappointment walking into the Atlanta store and not even getting a "be right with you" acknowledgment of service. Even after walking straight to the fly fishing tackle area. Walked around looking at the books and flies and lines and not once did anyone come to me to ask me if I needed any help. Yes there were employees in the store that saw me walk in. I left went to spend my money at Bass Pro Shops. I don't think I will step into this store any time soon.... read more
