Visited the Norfolk Osaka Ramen location after already familiar with the VB and Chesapeake locations. I've gone to the latter two locations several times in the past. There's paid street meter parking outside the restaurant. We went during weekday dinner time which I am glad. I don't want to think about where else we should have parked otherwise during busier times/semester. The service here is incredibly slow. We were seated in front of the register with 3 people working the floors and only us being the diners, too. Food tasted ok. Broth was lukewarm/tepid due to the ice cold toppings added straight out of the fridge. The chashu tasted great. Noodles were nice and chewy. Too bad I felt like I was eating out of a bowl of spit. I think I prefer going to the Chesapeake or VB locations. This location is not worth paying for parking and be frustrated waiting for everything including receiving utensils and checks. read more

Very disappointed in a few things here tonight. We were looking forward to great ramen and sushi, based on the reviews I read. Walking in, strong smell of cleaning solution ( could be a good thing), but apparently they don't clean the women's bathroom. Disgusting toilet, sink, floor. No paper towels in the dispenser and no air dryer. Walking back to my table, the back of the Noren ( Japanese doorway curtain) was disgustingly filthy! From years of hands pushing it aside, I guess. ‍ Our server was very nice, she said she was new, so learning a lot about the menu. We ordered hot tea, they were out! I ordered 2 orders of salmon sashimi, got one order. ( that was eventually fixed) I ordered the boa buns, delicious!! I also ordered the veggie roll. My husband ordered the tonkatsu ramen and I asked for an additional egg for his ramen so I could enjoy it. It took a long time to get our food, all came at different times. My husband got his Ramen ( with the extra egg, yay) but I was served a veggie ramen instead of my veggie roll. That, too, was fixed. But, my veggie roll had seaweed salad INSTEAD of the yellow pickle, ( which is why I ordered the veggie roll for the pickled radish ) I wasn't ask if they could substitute the seaweed for the pickle radish that they ran out of. I would say the service is great, but the food isn't. There's no authentic Japanese food here. Every waitress is enthusiastic and energetic, and they make you feel welcome, but the food doesn't match their effort. The isn't run by Japanese owners--it's Chinese-owned and serves Japanese-style dishes, but the taste feels more like it's from China. you're looking for traditional Japanese cuisine, this isn't the place. If you just want some generic Asian food, it's okay. I ordered the soup noodles, and they were just okay, with fewer ingredients than before. As my kids would say, "Osaka has gone down". This was by far the worst experience we had at Osaka. It was also my son's birthday so it was disappointing considering this is one of his favorite restaurants. The service was not good. It took forever for us to get drinks, apps and our main courses. At one point I asked, how much longer for the sushi, the server looked at me with a questionable look. He had totally forgotten it and it was sitting hanging out on the sushi counter. I love going to Osaka Ramen. I think they have some of the best ramen in the Norfolk area. The wait time can vary depending on when you go, but we were lucky to be seated and got our food pretty quickly. Muriel, our hostess, was so nice and quick on her feet. She took great care of us even though our original server didn't come right away. Her service was absolutely immaculate! I got the spicy tonkotsu ramen, and it was delicious as always. Let's just say I understand why this place often gets 3 stars.. this restaurant is located near ODU in Norfolk. There is street parking available. You are greeted immediately and seated. The restaurant is clean but a bit dated in decor. Service is great but the overall quality of the sushi is just ok to me . My son enjoyed his sushi. My Miso soup was a bit watered down. The Shumai was ok. You can tell it was previously frozen. The sushi rice seemed a bit old or as is my roll wasn't made to order... I've had better sushi from Legman's and paid less. Our meal was almost $70 after tip. I should've gone to my first choice which is Hokkaido in Downtown norfolk. I would've had all you can eat fresh sushi for around the same price for 2 people read more

This is one of the best ramen places I have ever been to. Place is very comfortable, love the artwork on the walls and the Japanese theme inside, and the food is super delicious. We visited this location for a work function. Overall good experience with a variety of tasty dishes at a decent price. I don't order sushi often so I stuck with a spicy girl sushi role and their version of fried chicken. This location is located by the ODU Campus so sure to leave time for parking. The food was good and they have a lot to chose from. The Spicy role was missing the spice but I wasn't complaining too much because I don't perfer the food to be super spicy. I would go back if somebody wanted sushi closer to the Norfolk navy base. read more

Full disclosure, the five star review comes off the strength of the service of the single waitress holding down the counter and serving three to four tables as well. Took me a couple of minutes to get seated and maybe a couple more to get the food. But like I said earlier, the waitress holding it down was more than cheerful and energetic to power a small town. The food was actually really good and unfortunately left my take-home plate somewhere on the bar because I was sweating my ass off due to the spice. Also I did ask for extra spicy and I got as I deserved. I think the place wasn't as packed due to it being summer and this being down by the college but the food was great. Lots of seeding and lots of booths available. Good atmosphere for a solo diner like myself, family or a group. Definitely recommend the spot read more

I am very sure I just found my favorite ramen spot in VA!!! I got the Oxtail Ramen and Gyoza. The ramen was REALLY GOOD!!! The broth was really light and flavorful, the noodles were soft, and all the other ingredients really complemented the ramen well! The oxtail.....it was super tender and easily came off the bone and it had a sweet & juicy taste that blended well with the broth. Overall, this ramen blended very well together and I'm excited to get it again! The gyoza was my first introduction to the restaurant and I knew this meal was gonna go great just by my first bite of this. Super flavorful, well steamed and the sauce made it even better!! The service was great! They seated me ASAP, explained the menu to me since this was my first time and were super friendly and efficient. Well, wait... when I placed my order, whomever I was speaking with was a tad bit rude and didnt get my order correct but im not a Karen so lets talk about the food. Back to the mission: So I ordered the Tonkatsu ramen, it was a solid 5/10. Very watery & lacked a rich flavor. Traditional/Japanese Tonkatsu is very rich deep flavor & almost a creamy texture, shouldnt have same consistency as a soy based broth. I ordered a Samurai roll & that was the life saver of the experience. Fish was fresh and the balance was there. I hate when rolls are 90% rice & this was NOT the case. GREAT JOB ON THE ROLLS ! We stopped by Osaka for the first time today and I am so happy we did. Service was amazing and so was the food. Probably some of the best ramen I've had here! I got the shoyu ramen and the broth & pork chasu was SOOO incredibly flavorful. My toddler and I could not get enough. I also ordered a Christmas tree roll and that did not disappoint either! The crazy thing about this review is that it's not even about the food. I was so shocked how dirty and nasty it was here. I mean it literally took me by surprise. Food came out fast and it was actually good but had me thinking if the dishes the food was on, were they even clean? I went to wash my hands and there was no soap. I kindly opened the men's to get soap and that bathroom was even more gross.. you can tell with this type of dirt, that it hasn't been cleaned in days . Also the floors in the restaurant was sticky and dirty . The window seals had food and dirt on them. The curtains leading to the bathroom and the kitchen were also dirty .. the door to the supply closet had dirt all over it .. Osaka, not bad. A 3.5 rounded up. I've been here a few times during the week and waited before writing this review as I really wanted to love it here. Don't get me wrong, the Shoyu ramen tasted great, and the portion sizes were generous, but the service has been consistent each time I've dined here - it always seems... just meh. Nothing terrible, but nothing to write home about either. It won't deter me from coming back. The convenience of how close it is to school has made this spot become a local haunt for me. read more

This was a nice find in the ODU campus area. I had the karaage as an appetizer and I was definitely not impressed. It was dried and chewy and just not karaage like. Since I had placed the order all together, I also ordered the Osaka meat lover ramen which comes with karaage and pork, again the karaage was disappointing but everything else about the ramen was good. I enjoyed it. The service was friendly, happy and responsive to our needs. I would return and recommend to others. read more

I've had better and worse experiences here. The staff are very nice and do a good job. I had chicken teriyaki because at the places I normally would eat, it's a dinner with a few vegetables. I wouldn't recommend what I did get. But I live in New York, so it's probably my fault for not really reading the menu carefully. However, the ramen looked great and in the past, I've had sushi here that was really good, too. My friend got hand rolls that looked absolutely fabulous. read more

The roll was mostly rice. Last I ordered a crab salad.. let's just say it was an actual seaweed salad bc that's all they threw in there. Words don't describe how much I love this place. I've taken family, friends, coworkers and even girls I failed a talking stage with here. Everything on the menu is so good. The food is good. The service is good. The ambiance is good. The whole place just makes you feel good! It's right in the heart of ODU so the area isn't lacking when it comes to food choices. However, this is the clear winner out of all the choices in the area. They have a lunch special that's well worth the money. The portions are so big that they have to be selling this at a loss. Should it matter that we came in two hours before closing? I think not but we felt like the last patrons and they were trying to hurry us out. Like warm dumplings as a appetizer, and the sushi was just ok. But the biggest problem was being served the wrong noodle bowl! The Mrs ordered the meat lover which came to the table with NO MEAT! That's right, you read it right. A meat lovers bowl with no meat and when the server realized her mistake, she brought the meat out on a separate plate for us to dump into the bowl. Epic failure for me, MR Chef you had one job. How do you treat customize like and expect a return visit? I absolutely will not come back, there is a Ramen Noodle spot closer and better, I guess that's what I get for trying somewhere different. Oh well, lesson learned. read more

Food and service was amazing! Sushi was perfect and the ramen was authentic and full of flavor. It even had a full egg cooked to perfection! It's clear they take a lot of pride in their cooking. We were a large party of 7, hangry, and arrived near closing time and still had an amazing experience. Our server was extremely patient and kind. Parking: Located really close to ODU, nice area and seems to have apartments/dorms above the businesses. Decent amount of metered and 2 hr street parking. Might be difficult to park during peak times. Food. This ramen was delicious. Definitely Americanized but I enjoyed it. The waiter suggested his favorite meal and I went with his suggestion of the spicy Chicken Paitan Ramen. It was spicy but not to the point where it's hard to eat. Chicken teriyaki was very tasty!!! Went well with the dish. I added corn for 1$. Probably won't add the corn next time. Add-ons aren't really worth it as you can see. Also, tried to order a coke and some egg rolls. Out of both. I've been to their Chesapeake location before and we were planning to go somewhere else, but they weren't serving Ramen for lunch so we decided to go to this location. This Norfolk location is about 3x the size of their Chesapeake location. The restaurant was bright and clean. We came in right after they opened so the restaurant was still empty. Similarly to their Chesapeake location, their staff was ver friendly and helpful. As for theIr food, we the Shoyu Ramen and their Seafood Ramen. They were both delicious and flavorful. The meat and seafood were plenty. I've never been disappointed with Osaka, whether it's their Chesapeake or Norfolk. This ramen place should be on your list, if it wasn't. read more
