It was oddly quiet on the evening that we went to Yamachen. The place is what you would expect from a 3.5 star sushi place but I'll give it a 4 given that the service was pretty solid. The rolls were tasty though I wouldn't be too adventurous on the cut of the fish. Overall, a good place if you're looking for a quick fusion sushi place.

Great service and signature hospitality touches gives YamaChen's Sushi a special place in my heart. Looking to duck the crowd, Nye' and I arrived around 5p, half an hour after they reopen for dinner. We had the place to ourselves, a couple customers coming in and out to pick up their takeout orders. Our server who was also working the takeout orders came over with water and took our appetizer order. Nye' was pleasantly surprised by how good the shrimp tempura was. Well battered, light, airy and crisp. Just freakin' right. We both enjoyed the seaweed salad, and the house salad was a nice bed of fresh mixed greens with ginger dressing. We both ordered a couple rolls to follow. We chose to order sushi roll combos both favoring the Hawaii roll. They even included a small side of seaweed salad with your combo. During our meal we were served complimentary spring rolls, NICE. Overall we enjoyed Yamachen's. My only gripe being the excessive amount of rice used to make each roll. They were filling, maybe a bit too filling. Other than that, the food was fresh, service was friendly, and I greatly appreciated the complimentary mini cheesecake for dessert. We'll be back.

What is this?! Worst looking sushi roll I've ever seen in my life! The restaurant should be ashamed of themselves!

My husband and I used to eat here every paycheck for over 2yrs. This year our money has been tight so we only order when we "splurge". The last few times, the food has really gone downhill. The rolls are bland, I can make better sushi rice at home, fish didn't taste fresh either! After our order last night, it's the last time we're going buying anything at YamaChen. The restaurant should be ashamed of themselves for their current food quality. Look at the amount of fish on the earthquake roll!

The service and presentation a 5/5 the taste? meh the sushi rice is bland and the fish has no flavor. I really love the takeout set up and wanted to love the sushi but i feel worse than better :/

We've been coming here for years and it has remained my favorite spot for sushi! The rolls are made fresh upon order and the service is consistently excellent. It gives off family and modern Asian vibes. They keep it fun with lights and décor relevant to the time of year/seasons/holidays. We never have to wait to be seated and always enjoy our time! Stop by and get some amazing sushi!

First visit 9/23/2021 - Finally got to try this Yama location. They all seem to follow the same concept of giving some freebies which is really a pleasant surprise especially since Covid. Coming from a local whose never been to Japan, I would say the quality is between a sushi AYCE buffet and high-end local sushi establishment. Yama is a decent quick fix especially on a good day. Luckily, my first visit was good! We were given a cold plate of delicious edamame. We love edamame & wish it was served hot vs cold. Another Yama we went to also served it cold, but beggars can't be choosers. We ordered a roll each and two bowls of Miso. Miso wasn't bland & had a decent flavor. The two rolls were Iron Man and Earthquake. Iron Man has Shrimp tempura, crab meat, tuna, salmon (crab meat). Earthquake contains Spicy tuna, spicy salmon, real crab meat, avocado(tuna, salmon). Not sure that I tasted real crabmeat in either, but both rolls were delicious! I didn't overanalyze the filling because we were so hungry and enjoying. Rice was cooked & seasoned well. The sauce slightly overpowers, but that's part of Yama's appeal too. Yama's rolls are a good size with a balanced ratio of rice to filling. We love that they don't use a ton rice! I usually see mountains of rice left over on my daughter's plate, but not here!

The Iron Man and Hawaii rolls - excellent!

I had no idea YamaChen's is a chain restaurant in Va, and it definitely does not feel like a chain restaurant. The rolls are excellent! My favorites are the Iron Man, Hawaiian, and Candy Cane. The service is excellent. There are two younger servers that are there most of the time, and they are both so sweet. The dishes are served with complimentary edamame, spring rolls, and a rotating desert. The bites are small but perfect compliments to a yummy sushi meal. 10/10 would recommend! Also check out their rewards program.

Time flies! It's been awhile since my Yama review - so I figured I'd pop in with an update that things are still great! I'll admit that I've found a different sushi place that is my favorite in the entire 757. Unfortunately, it's a little bit of a drive. Yama is close to home so it's still my most visited sushi spot. It's perfect for takeout or delivery. My order is always correct. The selection is excellent. When I order a small feast they usually throw in something a little extra which is always a great treat. I haven't visited in person since COVID began, but I'm so pleased to see that other reviewers have been comfortable with their safety precautions and overall experience. I know I've been excited for sushi night every time I know it's coming from Yama. I look forward to dining in again soon!

Love YamaChen's their sushi is so delicious and well prepared. They have an amazing rewards program and customer service is like no other. We have tested out multiple locations and none have let us down. They have great sushi roll combos too, personally haven't ventured out passed sushi but they have a variety on the menu, sake is always a hit!

YamaChen's was an amazing experience!! From the beginning, they gave my family edamame on the house which is so nice of them. Our waitress was very patient with my sister and I as we waited for the rest of our family. The restaurant was extremely clean, even the bathroom felt luxurious!! They also have custom plates and utensils packages that just let me know how seriously they care about their business and how much they care about their customer's experience. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed their food. They gave us way more than enough food which we love to see! I got the spicy fire chicken and it was AMAZING. I am craving it again as I type this review. At the end of our meal, our waitress gave us egg rolls on the house AGAIN! It just kept getting better and better. To top it all off, our to go boxes were the cutest little custom ordered YamaChen's to go boxes! They were the perfect size and could close tight enough for securing. Overall, the food, service, and vibe of YamaChen's exceeded my expectations. YamaChen's has really topped the charts of sushi restaurants. I can't wait to go back!

Excellent service upon entering. The food was prepared quickly and tasted very good. Edamame beans from the beginning was a plus. Spring rolls were also complimentary. And for the final touch, we received cream puffs o. The house. The environment was very clean and quiet. Our waitress was very pleasant and friendly. Would definitely return on our next visit to the area.

I love their sushi! I get the shrimp tempura roll, my boyfriend however believes this place smells too "fishy" but i don't smell anything.

I phoned in a take-out for a sushi roll and a beer. The sushi was good...too much rice and cut too thick for my liking but it was good.

The menu prices are a couple bucks more than other places I've tried, but keeping an open mind. I ordered the "Bento Special" it comes with soup, salad, rice, half calif roll and your choice of protein. I ordered the shrimp tempura. Also ordered side of salmon roll. The tago container gives a nice presentation. But let's move in to the food. The salad dressing was okay it seemed a little watered down not much flavor. Soup was good and tasty. California roll was fine. The assortment of tempura was nice, but you get 2pcs of shrimp. All in all the Bento Special was pretty okay! Now going on with my side of salmon roll. Well, I always take a pic so you all can see the ratio if rice and protein. And look st my pic. Too much rice! I had to even take some out of the roll. I will probably tell them half of rice in my sushi roll. All in all ...I will come back and try their other dishes, and make sure to tell them to cut down on the rice for the rolls.

That being said, I ordered from Sushi Vice. I'm not hating it. Before I placed my order with DoorDash, I actually called the restaurant and requested that they include cups of soy sauce and chopsticks, etc., because I was staying in the hotel. I only did this because if you order off DoorDash's menu, you cannot include Notes to the restaurant. It's ridiculous. With all that being said, I could not believe it when my order arrived it was exactly as I requested. It's not really a sushi joint. It's more of an Asian fusion type place and they have a very limited menu, but what they do have is very, very good. I highly recommend trying that beef fried rice thing. I've included a picture of it. It was freaking awesome. You won't be disappointed, but I would strongly suggest going to the restaurant and you'll probably even have a better meal. The next time I'm in Virginia Beach, which is quite often I'll probably just drop in to the restaurant myself.

It's not a buffet. And you can order as much as you want, each time. For example, we have 4 adults in our party. My order will go like this: 2 rolls (6pcs per roll) of Spicy Girl, 1 roll of Philly, 1 plate of BBQ squid, 1 chicken yakisoba, 1 avocado salad. And all that's going to come to you. Next round, you order all new items, as much as you want. I'm an including photos of the lunch menu. You can order all you want, over and over, from everything on that menu photo. Are your starting to see the possibilities? Even at lunch, you have the option to use the dinner menu, which costs $5 or $10 per head. It gives you even more options and items. We haven't tried those yet. So we all are Asian food conisseurs. We like quality sushi. We like good Korean BBQ. We love good Japanese restaurants, so how does the food compare here? It's say it's pretty darn good for $19.99 per head, unlimited. The sushi is maybe 1 step above buffet sushi, but it's good. The Yakisoba is almost as good as a Japanese restaurant. The Miso soup is fully just as good. The shrimp tempura is not quite as good as a Japanese restaurant, but for this price and unlimited, yeah it's really decent. The Bbq squid is exquisite. I can't say enough about that. The chicken nuggets and fries were even good. Both servers we've had were Jonny on the spot with recording and drink refills. I mean both times I got 5 refills on the Diet Coke and never had to wait. Impressive. It's our new place after church and we rotate it between here and Chic-n-roll. We decided to give Saruki Japanese Hibachi a try on a weeknight and were seated after only about a five-minute wait. One thing we really enjoyed was having the hibachi table to ourselves. Unlike many hibachi experiences where you're seated with other parties, it was just my family, which made for a more relaxed dinner. Our chef was entertaining without being over the top, and the cooking was done well. The steak and scallops were both cooked perfectly, which we appreciated. The meal came with the standard vegetables, although we noticed there were no bean sprouts, which are common at many hibachi restaurants in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. We also missed the traditional dipping sauces that usually accompany hibachi meals. Instead, we were served a mayo-based sauce that wasn't really to our taste. The staff was happy to provide Sriracha when requested, which helped. Service was decent, and the food was good overall. However, with restaurant prices being what they are today, the experience didn't quite stand out enough for us to make a return visit. It wasn't a bad meal by any means--just one that ultimately felt a bit forgettable. This version comes across as fair and constructive while still explaining why you likely won't be back.
