This has been our favorite and go-to sushi place for a long time. 8-9 years. We ate here today with my daughter who's visiting from Florida. Our first meal was this lunch. First, our poor waitress forgot my soup and when she returned with it, it tasted straight up like beef broth. Second, the sushi were bland and mine had cooked salmon that was all dark salmon. It was so gamey, so fishy. And it fell apart. My daughter had a bento box and she said the salad was disappointing. But the biggest issue was my son's "bridge" or whatever wooden structure his sushi was on, had mold. We were 1/2 into our sushi when she brought out the vegetable tempera that we requested as an appetizer. It was flavorless as well. 3 people, 3 lunches and 1tea and $65 later a lesson learned. I wanted to place an updated review for Sakatomo. This last visit just did not seem as good as usual. I felt that the chunks of fish meat was much less compared to before. Looking at my tekka sake don from before to now, the meat slices are much thinner. I really miss how it used to be. The Korean chirashi was the most disappointing. Last time, we had large pieces of fish meat in a yummy gochujang style sauce. It was all about the fish and the rice. This time they mixed the salad into the bowl. There was SIGNIFICANTLY much less meat. I know times are hard and many things are much more expensive today, but these are pretty disappointing changes. Service is still very wonderful and they are kind. The presentation of the rolls is very cute. The special Japanese tables are a great dining experience. I had a serious craving for sushi, drove by Sakatomo and figured I'd give it a try. I had the Philly roll, veg tempura, and edamame everything was perfectly fresh, delicious and prepared with care! We come to Sakatomo often and they never miss on service and food. My husband loves their chicken katsu and knows my husband usually orders this on the side with his meal. The sushi rolls they have are all very good. My favorite is probably the Christmas Tree roll. I love the clear soup they have and salad. Staff are always so friendly when coming in and always super attentive. It's very quiet and relaxing coming here. Let me start by saying I have never liked any kind of raw sushi before my visit here. I was your typical volcano/ California/ salmon skin roll type of girl. Today I decided to give it another shot and... OMG!!! The spicy tuna and yellowtail roll was phenomenal! The reviews aren't adding up. I did not have a 4.6 star experience here. The white waitress with the glasses and curly blonde hair had the worst attitude. The yakisoba didn't taste authentic and the volcano sushi was just thrown into the container without a care in the world. I wouldn't return or recommend. read more

I stopped by Sakatomo because I wanted to eat at a sushi place that was not an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) spot. It seems like there are more AYCE sushi spots in the area than 'regular' places. From the beginning to the end of my meal, everything went very well. While the restaurant is a little dark for my taste, I forgot all about that once the food arrived. For my dining pleasure, I went with the Sushi Deluxe dinner and had a large hot sake, and everything was delicious. I can say that the quality of the fish was way better than a couple of AYCE sushi places that I have tried. I guess this would be a 'no duh' observation. During my visit on an early Saturday evening, I found the service to be very exceptional because my waitress never left me waiting for anything. I'm really glad this place is super close to me, so I can try more things from the menu. read more

So red! The butterfly...or was it the firefly roll? Had a fat piece of tuna and each piece had a thin slice of jalapeño. For me and my kids it was not spicy to make us hurt but the little kick was nice. The lunch specials are actually a great deal and in todays economy-the portion and quality pretty impressive. My big eater kids were satisfied with the bento and side entrees. The place has new owners and I think they are trying to keep with the formers menu and flavors. My daughter was ready to graduate from AYCE to better quality sushi. Sakatomo has been on my FOODAR for awhile now. When we walked in, we were sat at one of the first tables. I didn't know until after our meal there were cute sunken booths in the back. I would have requested a booth had it been offered. We decided to try a couple of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. Osaka Roll was our favorite and then the Fuji Mt Roll. We both thought the rice was slightly over cooked. I thought it needed more vinegar and sugar & it was colder than I prefer. Mochi flavors include green tea, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate, and mango. All the food is served with presentation, for example the plates have authentic Japanese designs and styles. We started with the house salad and edamame for our little one. We were each served complimentary miso soup, which was delicious and our 4 year old even got one. For our main course, we ordered the sweet potato roll, vegetable roll, vegetable tempura, vegetable yakisoba, and hot sake. The two rolls were delicious and the vegetable tempura portion was huge. However, the yakisoba lacked any sense of flavor. It was pretty much plain noodles with some vegetables mixed in. I'm a little torn on this one. I've tried to visit Sakatomo a few times, but either plans get canceled by friends, or I try on days that they are closed. Last night was finally the night! I want to round up to 4-stars since this is only based on one visit. The truth is, though, I wouldn't drive out of my way to revisit Sakatomo, but will probably return if I'm in the area. Everything tasted good, but the service was slow, friendly- but really slow. Our salad was forgotten until we asked for it. It may have just been a rough night for the front of house since no one else is talking about slow service. I do want to stress again; service was incredibly friendly. I would recommend ordering edamame or something small to snack on if they are busy when you visit so you have something to do and munch on while you wait. The quality of the sushi tasted great! I feel like maybe I should just give them the extra star and round-up for that. However, our rolls weren't rolled very well. They were falling apart when we were trying to eat them, which made it a messier experience. Normally I don't need a small plate when sharing sushi with someone, but I wish one had been offered since they weren't quite staying together. I liked that you had the option to sit without chairs (I don't know what the traditional word for this style of seating is). We opted for a table. There is more table seating than floor seating, but I could definitely see myself returning for a fun experience sitting on the floor (raised). I need to give them another shot, and I will update my review when I do. I'd describe my overall experience for this visit as "a-ok" so 3-stars it is. read more
